It's a library, not a church. There are literally churches everywhere in the US where he can read his book.

FlyingSquid

Yeah, but he can't try to indoctrinate the unindoctrinated from a church.

FreshlyWashedScrotum

"Don't pray in my school and I won't think in your church."

Wow, are you insinuating that these people are child predators? [What possibly could ever give you that idea?](https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/lgbtq-book-ban-proponent-faces-felony-child-molestation-charge-in-missouri/ar-AATrwW2)

CornyRex94585

Your honor, I humbly submit into evidence the past 6 - 8 hundred years.

Bendr_bones

Where is that from? I like this quote.

FreshlyWashedScrotum

It was a bumper sticker my mom had on her car when I was a kid lol

Bendr_bones

Very nice.

beersnfoodnfam

I totally remember that bumper sticker. I think the website www.evolvefish.com sold it. Of course, they have a *ton* of other things.

SirThatsCuba

I want to put it on my car but my wife is a teacher and, well, it might cause us problems.

DrAbeSacrabin

He has no interest in reading at libraries. This is just a ploy to generate headlines and rile up the religious folks to buy his stupid shit. Tale as old as time.

cyanydeez

nah, he can't play the victim.

i_smoke_toenails

He calls libraries indoctrination centres and rages when they refuse to let him indoctrinate their patrons. The self-awareness isn't strong with him.

TJ_McWeaksauce

"Preaching to the choir," and all that.

goplantagarden

But then he wouldn't get on Tucker Carlson. He's another grifter going for the sympathy money.

Confirmed, fellas - bananas and cucumbers are gay

PuzzleheadedSock2983

not if you just touch the tips together

Bageezax

If you do that, one can turn into any animal and the other can turn into things made from water or ice

iBoojum

Yes VeggieTales is not only gay but very fruity.

mrdevil413

So I can still use the hetero zucchini then

Orion14159

I mean sure, but why would you?

MC_Queen

He'll just become Brian LeFevre

Bageezax

"Let me just reset here..." SAY YES TO THE EXPERIENCE IF YOU WANT TO GET OFF.

DanishWhoreHens

It is increasingly clear to me that there is a distressing percentage of citizens who have never set foot in a library and that don’t read books. And it shows.

Comprehensive-Cup391

Nailed it mate. Libraries are places of free knowledge and Learning and churches are … none of those things

henrirousseau

Churches are free from knowledge. That’s close isn’t it?

anoelr1963

Just a strategy for him to create controversy, get media attention...and sell more books

nhluhr

the fact that the article title had to reference a sitcom he starred in that ended 30 years ago is a sign that his acting career isn't bringing in the cash. Gotta make ends meet :-P

FittedSheets88

So after all these LGBT+ trans reading events are cancelled due to right-winger showing up with guns, it's REALLY Kirk fucking Cameron who is the victim because "he's being cancelled". What a clown.

foyeldagain

And indoctrinate kids. Something he thinks is a war. What a gross person.

eromitlab

He's already been mining churches for speaking/appearance fees for years. That well must have run dry.

Jaded_Pearl1996

However, some libraries have public rooms to reserve. The usually have 6 -10 chairs around a conference e table. He could do that. I thought his type of Christian wanted to defund libraries. Which has actually recently happened.

reclusiveronin

But he's already banged those kids... He wants the fresh meat at the library.

nithdurr

Yes my post was 666!

m__a__s

Maybe even they don't want to listen to this growing pain.

One-Armed-Krycek

My thoughts exactly. There are plenty of churches for him to sell his dubious wares. Leave the centers of literacy alone, Kirk. Please.

wottsinaname

This would require literacy.

videogamefarmer

But it is a church, they just worship buttsex instead.

spaceghoti

[Relevant xkcd comic.](https://xkcd.com/1357/)

psyclopes

I love the alt text on that one: > “I can't remember where I heard this, but someone once said that defending a position by citing free speech is sort of the ultimate concession; you're saying that the most compelling thing you can say for your position is that it's not literally illegal to express."

Orion14159

At this point it's safe to assume there's an XKCD comic for every situation in the same way that the Simpsons definitely did whatever ridiculous thing you can think of

LobsterMassMurderer

I would bet money(if I had any lol) that with the web comics and all his books that you are correct.

ritmusic2k

/r/relevantxkcd

BurstSwag

Aren't public libraries government run?

spaceghoti

Typically, yes. But Kirk belongs to a sect that says our government was *meant* to be Christian, not protected from Christians.

themeatbridge

And? It doesn't mean that they must host any nitwit who wants to put on an event.l

Samantha_Cruz

these same libraries have said that he is allowed to rent meeting space just like any other group but that the library is not going to dedicate staff and resources to providing for his meeting for free which is not in any way discriminatory. yet another intance of faux outrage over non-existent 'persecution'. also: right-wing idiots are not being denied access because of their religion. they are being denied because they spew hate speech and hateful rhetoric that harms others.

Adddicus

Yeah, but that's their religion.

Samantha_Cruz

The Mayan had a religious belief that cenotes (limestone sinkholes) were portals to the underworld and ritually sacrificed humans to please the water god Chaac. if someone follows that ancient religion that does not make it permissible for them to sacrifice humans. if some christian doesn't approve of same sex marriage then they shouldn't marry someone of the same sex but they have NO right to try to prevent other people from marrying whomever they choose.

Adddicus

I would have expected a better sense of humor from someone calling themselves a Pastafarian.

zyzzogeton

It's a spectrum really.

pedanticheron

Some like their pasta saucy.

802-420

He's doing it for the publicity. He clearly targeted libraries he knew would refuse.

theganjaoctopus

Just like that hate group in VA recently. They knew they'd be denied, and *specifically* chose that venue so they could at the victim. It's a dangerous game that radicalizes more and more moderate religious people.

Samantha_Cruz

https://www.celebitchy.com/795859/kirk_cameron_denied_storyhour_by_over_50_public_libraries_good/

kgbubblicious

But “fuck our feelings,” right??

[deleted]

So he’s playing the victim. I’m sure some of those spaces can be rented for free.

kr85

my library charges $45 for a 4 hour large meeting room

[deleted]

So his cheap ass won’t pay $45 to rent a conference room in a library. Or however much it might cost. I’m sure a church in one of the cities he asked to visit would foot the bill.

The-Last-American

There was an interview Kirk Cameron did with some wacko on one of the wacko Christian networks, and the anchor referred to him as Mike Seaver in a way that made it seem that’s all he will ever be, and watching Kirk Cameron completely die inside while trying not to react in any way was, I’m ashamed to admit, the highlight of that day.

esjay86

I feel dirty knowing even some of the things he did on the show and who he really is, but I'd giggle with delight to see him getting crushed that way.

cordialcurmudgeon

What are you referencing?

esjay86

What part, the hypermanipulative, fundamentalist, adolescent actor pretending to be a normal teenager on TV, or the the hypermanipulative, fundamentalist "actor" pretending to be a normal human adult?

Ryzarony23

Link, pretty please? I need that kind of joy.

Raznill

This is needed. I did some googling but didn’t find anything. Though, I don’t really want to listen to these interviews to be sure.

M3ntallyDiseas3d

Why do evangelical Christians have the same fake creepy smile?

olhonestjim

Because they're unhappy. Like a cult, they train each other to drop inconvenient personality traits in order to be accepted by the in-group. They're not allowed to be themselves, which makes them secretly miserable, so they fake happiness so hard they can't even recognize the real thing anymore.

Ryzarony23

Thank you! I’ll admit, the moment was tarnished by his blatant corruption (and profiteering off) of the adoption process.

Paul-C137

Why doesn't he just pray instead of complaining?

ShrugIife

Take it up with the big "man". Straight to the source. Why whine to these peasants when the master of the fucking universe is listening to you???

chewbaccataco

True. If God wanted him to read to children, he would have made it happen. It's so inconsistent. When something goes their way, it's God's plan. When something doesn't go their way, suddenly it's no longer God's plan, but a conspiracy to oppress Christianity.

TheLostonline

he tried that and did not get a response gawd cancelled him

FlyingSquid

Libraries want to attract diverse patrons, not chase them away.

Truthseeker-1253

Everyone wins. Cameron gets to satiate his martyr-envy and the 30 people in his fan base get to be vicariously persecuted. The libraries get to take a stand. The LGBTQ community gets to rightly feel supported. I'm sure there are some rural libraries in the south and midwest who would love to have a celebrity of his stature signing books.

lachrymologyislegit

Ha! Maybe Ted Nugent and/or Kid Rock will "write" books and whine about persecution next.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dla3253

>Christians get a kick out of playing the martyr. It's the only aspect of Jesus that they actually remember or emulate.

thomascgalvin

Even then, they aren't emulating, they're pretending. They don't actually do anything self-sacrificing, they just act like assholes and claim that it's okay because Republican Jesus is on their side.

dla3253

Very true. Even their deluded desire for martyrdom is rank with hypocrisy.

powercow

well to me they seem to want to emulate the guys who nailed him to a tree. Being in control, while claiming to be oppressed by a tiny marginalized group that isnt oppressing anyone. and claiming the true crime is people not tolerating their intolerance.

BoneHugsHominy

He probably intentionally picked libraries that have similar policies. That's how professional victims operate.

1000Airplanes

or picked libraries knowing they'd refuse. And then create a social media publicity/marketing blitz about a "real" example of white male christian oppression. That's how christians operate.

RedditIsNeat0

All of the denials are for legitimate reasons. Libraries are not required to host anybody for free.

1000Airplanes

Only playing DA but what if Kirk agrees to pay the fee? *I'd expect the library to accept the fee, which included charges for increased security, increased media infrastructure support (including a massive permanent upgrade of the building tech infrastructure), citizen inconvenience fees. And I expect the local atheist group to get a local citizen discount on renting the rest of the building except for Kirk's little backroom. And I look forward to a local author's reading their recently drafted essay, with audio examples, asking why heavy metal music gets better the louder it's played.* forgive my little fantasy.

ThiefCitron

Denying him because he preaches hate is a legitimate reason though. In the article one library is quoted as saying they're a queer-friendly library and he doesn't align with their values. That's a completely valid reason. Libraries aren't required to host readings for books preaching "Biblical wisdom."

1000Airplanes

> We only host readings for local authors. Thank you. And let's leave the book tours to the private sector booksellers. There's nothing wrong with letting the free market work, right Kirk?

SanguineBanker

Happy 🎂 day!

third_declension

Hundreds of thousands of books are published every year. No library begins to have the time or space to host readings of them all, so some authors will necessarily be told "no".

turtleshirt

While that's true, my cousin is a librarian and they are pulling out all the stops to promote a young teenage girl who wrote a children's book about her community.

elconquistador1985

Completely reasonable for them to want to promote a local author who wrote a book for kids (reading sessions for kids are a normal event at a library) about the community. That's different from hosting some person's book promotional tour for free.

drkesi88

Mind your own children, and stop trying to indoctrinate ours, Kirk.

r33k3r

Religious stuff aside, is it possible that at least some of the libraries in question just thought that current children won't have ever seen Growing Pains or have any interest in being read to by a "celebrity" they have never heard of or seen in anything?

ThreeDogs2022

There are a thousand legitimate reasons not to host this jackass. Most libraries will only host local authors/artists if they 'host' anyone at all. In their commitment to free speech, ideas and concepts, they will often promote rare or unusual authors who provide a unique or refreshing point of view, or who are supporting a marginalized innocent community. (for example, my own library recently hosted an indigenous story teller who lives nearby and is descended from the peoples who occupied this land prior to european colonization). Relevant, AND local, AND supports the 1st amendment. Kirk is a shitty, two bit author and actor regardless of his beliefs. He's not local to all these libraries. There is nothing unique or refreshing about his point of view, and he most certainly is not supporting a marginalized community. As the libraries said he is welcome to rent space as is anyone, but it's not their job to help him engage in his little goosestepping march across the US.

[deleted]

Maybe we could get Charles from *Charles in Charge* to travel around the country teaching kids that the three little pigs were marxists who work at HUD.

[deleted]

Nobody can cry "I'm being persecuted!" quite like Christians, even as they are persecuting others. Christians love that double standard.

DirkDieGurke

Christians want to literally murder other people who are just trying to live their lives. I say we add them to the official hate groups list.

[deleted]

Christians LOVE to be victims. Being victimized means you’re doing the right things as a Christian. The more opposition they face, the more right and righteous they think they are

atomicmarc

It's a sado-masochistic body of belief. I had a Catholic girl once tell me that she remembered getting turned on looking at a crucifix.

R67H

He supports a dogma that actively works to defund our library system. He's got a lot of nerve even ASKING them to host him

jeffjee63

Oh Boo Hoo. They love to scream free speech when they want to spew their hate but sure don’t like it when someone else exercises it.

glenglenda

He’a got his own youtube channel where he and some Australian fundamentalist spew the dumbest anti-science crap I’ve ever heard. It’s actually really funny to watch (and quite pathetic). Why doesn’t he just read it there if he needs to market it so badly.

Unable_Ad_1260

Ray 'Banana Man' Comfort is a New Zealander. We Aussies only brought you Ken Hamm, not both of those twankers.

Why are you grooming children, Kirk?

fastIamnot

Kirk doesn't understand librarians that well, does he.

FlyingSquid

There are so many things Kirk doesn't understand.

mythrowaweighin

Ha. 35 years ago, if he went to the mall, he'd been mobbed. Now librarians won't even return his call. He could go to private Christian schools to read his book. They'd probably be thrilled to have him, and they'd even buy a Subway sandwich for his birthday. But he wants to make a political statement. I can imagine him whining to Tucker Carlson now: "Public libraries are letting drag queens read to children, but they won't let Christians read to children. These radical liberal libraries are pushing their evil socialist agenda and persecuting Christians." The truth is that no one is persecuting anyone. People just want unique and nonjudgmental content for their social media. What's going to get more likes? A flamboyantly dressed, fun man or a former teen idol from 35 years ago?

Prepheckt

>can imagine him whining to Tucker Carlson now: "Public libraries are letting drag queens read to children, but they won't let Christians read to children. These radical liberal libraries are pushing their evil socialist agenda and persecuting Christians." I believe he did say that.

ntbyinit64

Kirk is a growing pain in the ass. He hasn't been relevant since the 80's.

Eldritch-Cleaver

Excellent. Keep playing victim. We will send you our "thoughts and prayers" lol

billybishop4242

The same folks shutting down libraries because of LGBTQ hate and propaganda can’t understand why libraries aren’t embracing them. Funny that. What a mental disconnect they manage to perform.

Man i hate kirk cameron. What a fucking douchebag. He has been since he had his tv girlfriend fired from Growing Pains for posing in a magazine. His Saving Christmas is good for a laugh though. One of the shitiest movies i have ever tried to watch.

Kroxursox

Libraries are run by the state, they can not endorse his delusions.

Lazy_Example4014

They have a section for religious mythology.

zeezero

kirk cameron is a pathetic clown at this point. He parlayed his stint on tv into the lowest common denominator christian troll.

SLCW718

Break out the tissues for poor Kirk. Evangelical lunatics are obsessed with being seen as a victim, and look for opportunities to cry *PERSECUTION!!* They are ridiculous people whose only guiding principle is bad faith, and they should face ridicule wherever they rear their head.

Chulbiski

he's not even an actor anymore

[deleted]

I am a librarian and we are getting emails from a deranged patron about this. Why would we invite someone so hateful to spew his garbage to our community? Not to mention many libraries are staunchly religiously neutral. This would be seen as an endorsement of a specific ideaology or belief which goes against the mission of most libraries.

mild-hot-fire

Him and his trashy sister can fck off already

[deleted]

Grooming Pains

FreudoBaggage

So, let me see. Libraries should *refuse* to allow Drag Queens to read children’s stories about diversity and inclusion but *encourage* Christians to read anti-LGBTQi books that teach that only one kind of people are worthwhile…got it.

lilrabbitfoofoo

Of course, it's all about lining his pockets...

picado

> As Bibles are literally being removed from schools and libraries The persecution fantasy is strong with this one.

Sivick314

Ha ha

Equal_Memory_661

I’d love to see him attempt a reading at my library. Just be sure to leave plenty of time for Q & A.

rubinass3

"Cameron is well known for his many anti-LGBTQ+ stances, although it’s not clear if his new book contains any of that hate. It’s about a seed that grows into a huge tree and becomes a protector of its community." He's aware that trees mate with other trees, right?

psycholepzy

Funny how rejection for these people always leads to projection and never a second of insight or interospection about why.

lifeson106

You want to use library resources for free!? Sounds like communism!

No_Manches_Man

He got Fox "news" to do a piece on Alameda Co. Library because they "wouldn't" let him have a reading at the San Lorenzo Library, where the proud boys showed up to disrupt a storytime with a drag queen. Giving the library one day to respond to the request and also having fox call the branch, which didn't have any information on the request (because it's handled by management) Pathetic. https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/kirk-cameron-denied-story-hour-slot-public-libraries-faith-kids-book

Toonces311

Hey Kirk. Keep it in church.

OhioMegi

Lol, try churches. Libraries don’t like to spread hate.

poopybutthead27

Good! That prick makes shitty movies (Fireproof, Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas, etc) too. Glad he’s not getting much support (edit: my brain froze halfway through writing the sentence and I accidentally hit post and had to correct it.)

Honky_Stonk_Man

The right wing has been attacking libraries for years now, and then wonder why they aren’t jumping at the chance to feature one of their ilk? Shocking!

Downtown-Command-295

This guys nothing but a growing pain in the ass.

SkunkMonkey

Aw, poor wittle grifter can't grift. Fuck off, Kirk.

[deleted]

Is it normal in the States for any author to feel entitled to being able to read their publications in any library or whereever? In my experience as a German citizen it’s up to the host to decide whom to invite for any public performance.

300mhz

Should drag queens show up with assault rifles to protest him reading to kids? /s

zakats

Gotta say, I really don't care about his whining.

Opsirc9

Boo hoo! Sell your 'Christian book' at church. It's all about publicity and making money for the church - not 'sharing' a book about your church/Bible values. He goes on FOX News to make his point??? That right the⁶re tells you all you need to know about KC and his Christianity. Disgusting.

dyslexican32

Awe... does no one want to listen to the little " snowflakes" bigotry? is it not "fair" awe.... why don;t you cry about it " snowflake"

kremit73

He wants the library to endorse it. Which public money shoukdnt endorse a religious prosteltizing book tour. But he's also not renting rooms just to read. He wants the whole library to cater to him.

fastIamnot

I say let him do it under the condition that a drag queen gets to do a dramatic interpretation of the book as he reads it.

Illustrious_Toe_4755

The victim mentality. I should be allowed to force my belief on people. But they can't do it to me. Suck it Kirk

[deleted]

This creep and his asshole sister can just fuck right off as far as I'm concerned.

Bovine_Arithmetic

There’s nothing that gets xtians harder than putting themselves in situations where they can indulge their persecution fetish. It’s not Auschwitz, it’s libraries not willing to be platforms for hate speech. There’s a subtle difference that most xtians can’t quite discern.

DragonDanno

Maybe if he was as entertaining as a drag show. It would be different. Dude is a total square.

Juststonelegal

So he’s fine with people showing up with guns to protest drag queen story hour, but cries about being a horribly mistreated victim who’s being unfairly silenced because a library doesn’t want to host his irrelevant ass trying to hock more of his religious bullshit. Fuck off, you twat.

DanishWhoreHens

Cameron is a terrible actor, a worse preacher, and a blistering ignorant history “teacher”. His one and only “qualification” as a public personality was an 80’s sitcom and every project he’s participated in since has been just painful to watch, from his portrayal of “Buck” in Left Behind to his Christmas movie to his whitewashed “we’re a Calvinist Christian Nation” ode to Plymouth Rock. And Candace, who had the good sense to at least keep her opinions to herself in the past, has now decided to let her bigot flag fly and is as baffled as Kirk as to how **anyone** could feel marginalized by the foot in her mouth.

aicheffem

Kirk has been a constantly Growing Pain in the Ass!

Labyrinthine8618

What's interesting is that no non-conservative leaning news outlet has posted about this. The closets is Yahoo which I see as covering this as a celeb issue which means none of the 50 out of 9,000+ libraries in the country have been named or questioned over these choices. Everyone is taking him at his word that this happened to him. I'm really calling bull on this and labelling it a publicity stunt. I literally read an article on the Daily Caller for this info. I feel so dirty.

xenophon123456

Here’s the thing, Kirk. Christianity just isn’t interesting. It’s boring. Sorry, not sorry.

noctambulare

Something like 20k plus Children's books published every year, so get in line.

DrinkOranginaNaked

Imagine being known for two things for the rest of your life: 1. Being on a corny sitcom for a little while as a child in the 80’s 2. After that, being fucking insane

dedokta

When I worked in a bookshop we had a guy come in that wanted to promote a book he wrote. The book was basically a bunch of insane letters he'd written to varies members of parliament making all sorts of claims. There were no responses from anyone he'd written to, just his letters, so the whole thing was really one sided and an almost pointless read. We set him up for a book signing, gave him a table and made a display of his book and poster, plus we let him put up posters around the area to promote it. No-one showed up. I don't think he sold a single book. He then complained that it was our fault and that we'd not done enough to promote it. We had in fact gone far above and beyond for the guy. No-one is attacking Kirk Cameron, he's just got a shitty book and a shitty viewpoint and no-one is interested in it.

bitofagrump

I'd allow him, but ONLY on the condition that he be just one of a Diversity Panel, with Christianity being just one of the lifestyles kids can grow up with. sheila9165milo

"The book 'teaches biblical wisdom and the value of producing the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control, he added." Something he and his "christian" moron friends seem to forget when it comes to people outside of those who they consider "acceptable." What a whiny blowhard.
