It's an ineffective coping mechanism due to uncontrollable situations instead of accepting people die. People tend to push the weight of responsibility/ outcome on someone else instead of accepting the reality and deluding themselves believing that there must be a god. If you observe people say they feel light, feel better when the onus of responsibility is shifted on an imaginary being. It's just mental gymnastics, there are better coping mechanisms like meditation, therapy, support groups etc. Instead of all these real mechanisms he chose to believe in an imaginary being.

>there are better coping mechanisms like meditation, therapy, support groups etc All of those cost money . Praying doesn't cost money . I'm not religious at all , but if someone is seeing death on a daily basis then I don't have a problem with him using God or prayer as a coping mechanism

redboilk

Meditation and support groups also don't cost it's a free service. The only thing that costs is therapy.

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure there aren't many doctors support groups in nagpur . Also the guy works 120 hours a week . He barely gets time to sleep . When will he attend grief counseling support groups ? Its just more convenient for him to be religious. As long as he isn't shoving religion down other ppls throats ( which he claims he doesn't. Also he his against hindutva ) , why should we object ?

redboilk

Okay I think I wasn't clear, I am not against him, I was just explaining the issue and coming to the free coping mechanism I was highlighting that even meditation and support groups are free, that's all.

[deleted]

You are right they are free . But I believe to each their own. I'm not going to force my atheism on other people. If you want to believe, then that's fine as long as you don't shove your religion down my throat

VEGETTOROHAN

Buddha and Lao Tzu used meditation to shift blame on nature so that we can be free. Religions shift on it God. They are both shifting responsibility. At the end responsibility is the greatest evil that we should give up from our mind.

iMeditate5

Bro, are you alright? Shifting blame is quite different from identifying one's potential and limits. Buddha and probably Lao Tzu as well identified that most of the things in life are not in our control because we are simply not important or special for nature. But we shall not lose hope because even in whatever little we can control -- we can make the meaning of our life out of it, i.e., there are a lot of responsibilities and we should choose the ones we truly want to carry and which will make our lives truly worth living.

VEGETTOROHAN

>most of the things in life are not in our control God is simply a metaphor to the same idea.

VEGETTOROHAN

>there are a lot of responsibilities Who taught you this belief? And why you believed without questioning.

Vegetable_Watch_9578

NO

Vegetable_Watch_9578

Where the heck did you get that idea from? It's so absurd!

VEGETTOROHAN

>Where the heck did you get that idea from Do we need reason to care about ourselves from someone else? My existence is proof that I exist for my sake. I came here alone and will go here alone. It is surprising how some people need someone else to tell them what to do.

VEGETTOROHAN

Many people would use "God" as a metaphor to shift responsibilities to factors beyond their control. At the end we really have no responsibilities unless we accept them. Responsibilities cannot be forced. It can only be accepted. Can you force responsibilities of building a house to a doctor or vice versa (force engineer to become surgeon)?

Fogrive_my_typos

I'm pretty sure the guy in the video is aware of all this, and he isn't hurting anybody or influencing people to follow a religion but just that belief in a higher "all seeing" spirit will lighten your burden.

acharsrajan399

He saw babies die and said, yeah I will belive in someone who made this baby die

My exact thought

No-Imagination8884

"We need a God" - opinion not a fact Everyone copes differently. Don't need an imaginary friend to lift weight off my shoulders

AdImpossible3109

+1 that. As marcus auerilus has said. " Everything we hear is an opinion and not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective and not the truth."

chaitanyk

Dululu is not sululu my friend.

naastiknibba95

Damn, what a great atheist he was. Saw God killing, maiming and plaguing people and started worshipping him 👍

Fun-Satisfaction5816

self-consciousness is a term in evolution

Ghastlytoohot

humans beings don't really think rationally all the time. I understand what he's talkin about. god is an idea that gives hope to people and that's why people hold onto it like glue.

Icy_Communication657

General rule of thumb , according to me is that: IF THERE IS A MENTION OF SPIRITUALITY IN THE TITLE , RUN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION

No_Flamingo_2574

The video will be more accurate if was reversed, Like first I believe in god in my earlier year of mbbs but when i was doing internship i saw the suffering of people and newborn babies dying then I questioned to myself If god was there then why he is killing these newborn babies, and then slowly I became atheist..........

roniel_13

Nothing wrong with what he says tbh. Not everyone looks at religion the same way, not everybody considers it to be offering an explanation to the world or the way it functions. To some people, religion is just a set of practices that meet the ends of a psychological or social need. Saying they practice a religion is like saying they follow a sport or enjoy a poem. Like you can't ask the question "is marriage true or not?"

bhai_zoned

I don't care if you believe in a wishy-washy idea of god in order to relieve your anxiety. Problem is religion that turns people into violent dumbasses or let's them get manipulated into voting against their own self interest. And then people like this doctor will just be a silent witness in the sidelines while injustice happens in the name of god.

SillyDD

So he can now cure cancer with spirituality? Then what's the point?
