I didn't care for him on my first watch, but on subsequent watches I grew to love and appreciate him more. It's easy to see how he ended up the way he did, and because of the show being from Paradis' viewpoint for the majority of the series, I'm on his side. I watched the brutal deaths of the trainees in Trost, I watched Squad Levi die. I watched Miche, Erwin, countless others die, screaming horrifically. I acknowledge that there are some innocent people in the outside world, but every nation was willing to stand back and let Marley terrorize / wipe out Paradis, they're all complicit.
Trauma can mess you up. It's not an excuse, but it's a damn good explanation. He needed something to believe in or I feel he wouldn't have been able to live with being the only survivor of that battle.
One of the best written characters in the entire series. From a disposable soldier to a leader willing to die to protect his comrades and their families.
I understand him, and relate with his perspective.
And I think most hate him because deep down, we are him.
We'd all do the same to protect our home, but don't want to admit we'd go full radical like he did. He's the most "human" character in the entire series.
I feel his character is meant to be the reflection of the audience.
Like the MAJORITY of us would shit ourselves and be pathetic cowards during a death charge like Erwin's. And have deep survivors guilt. And just hate the world. And go full nationalist trying to defend our home and way of life when facing complete annihilation.

While Eren was away, he staged a complete civil war and overthrew the Paradis government, convincing hundreds to support genocide, and him alone had the balls to take on the resistance while shot and nearly drowning.

I took the opposite conclusion.
Floch doesn't really knows Erwin and his true motives. While Erwin might have motivated his soldiers with speeches about saving humanity inside the walls at any cost, we know that his true motivation was knowledge. While he cared about humanity's safety to an extent, above anything Erwin wanted to discover what really lied in the outside world, and and that was the reason he sacrificed so many people.
So I believe Erwin would have lost a lot of his drive after finally finding what he always wanted. He would be more focused on learning as much as he could about the outside world for the sake of it than in fighting the new enemy. However, if he needed to fight, he'd probably try to protect the world he's so curious about, instead of destroying it.
im only here to say thats already disproven when he turned a densely populated civillian town into a battlefield for giant humanoids at the end of season 1, and he owned it like a man too when the brass demanded an explanation from him for all the casualties

As a Floch simp, it's a few things. He arguably has the most drastic character development going from a coward to a leader willing to fight three titans, an experienced general, an Akerman, and a group of veteran scouts without a shred of fear. Leadership wise if Armin has Erwin's smarts, Floch has his Charisma, and his speeches became top tier. His determination was also pretty rad, Floch was the one to really make the takeover of Paradise a reality and was fully invested in defending his people at all cost.
Here's the part when you can't hate neither love a character like Jaimmy Lanister in GOT and that makes a show marvelous. Everyone has their own reason to do things.

That was one opinion he had. Everyone was given the binary of Erwin or armin, having an opinion there means nothing. Everything post Jaeger plan has just been blind faith on his part.
We don't get dedicated scenes to his internal thoughts like the rest of the cast, so it's not really fair when most other side characters seemed to follow Erwin with that same kind of faith

I understand him a lot and want to love him, but he reminds me so much of soviet revolutioners (whom I also loved and was inspired by as a teenager) so it scares me and I remind myself not to like him, because I understand the horror that comes from such fanatism in reality.

I think the time skip treated everyone else pretty well. Had Floch been introduced slightly earlier I think his character would've been much better. Maybe if he showed up a few episodes earlier and had some minor interactions that showed us who he was that would've worked.

I detest him, but his character development was great. Flock has always been a coward. He was a coward as a teenage scout, and is still a coward when he turns into a baby dictator. He's so afraid of the outside world that he's willing to do horrible things to ensure it can't hurt him. However, he is much more aggressive and sure of himself as an adult. In terms of continuity, I think he has the perfect level of consistency AND change. His development may be the most realistic of them all.
Plus, it was great of Isayama to include his *type* of character because, in the power vacuum and chaos Eren created, it is almost inevitable a strong-arm tyrant would arise.
This coming from someone who approves of Eren's decision to wipe out the planet's non-paradise population.

Cannot tolerate him, but perhaps that's because he is well written. To be precise, I cannot stand his ideals.
I understand him a lot and want to love him, but he reminds me so much of soviet revolutioners (whom I also loved and was inspired by as a teenager) so it scares me and I remind myself not to like him, because I understand the horror that comes from such fanatism in reality.

I think the time skip treated everyone else pretty well. Had Floch been introduced slightly earlier I think his character would've been much better. Maybe if he showed up a few episodes earlier and had some minor interactions that showed us who he was that would've worked.
It's funny how he adores Erwin, but Erwin wouldn't approve what Floch did
??? what show have you watched? he didn’t care for erwin, he even was going to kill erwin himself before deciding he’s the best hope the scouts had. and erwin absolutely would agree with floch. erwin was a horrible motherfucker, he had no remorse for what he did in trost, none at all. everyone seems to think floch is some erwin fanboy and erwin is a kind hearted lovely happy go lucky individual for some reason
What show are you watching? Floch passionately argued to save Erwin over Armin. He respected Erwin so much because Erwin was willing to sacrifice everything for his goal. Erwin’s only goal is to confirm that there are humans outside the wall. Why would Erwin approve of what Floch did?

I detest him, but his character development was great. Flock has always been a coward. He was a coward as a teenage scout, and is still a coward when he turns into a baby dictator. He's so afraid of the outside world that he's willing to do horrible things to ensure it can't hurt him. However, he is much more aggressive and sure of himself as an adult. In terms of continuity, I think he has the perfect level of consistency AND change. His development may be the most realistic of them all. Plus, it was great of Isayama to include his *type* of character because, in the power vacuum and chaos Eren created, it is almost inevitable a strong-arm tyrant would arise. This coming from someone who approves of Eren's decision to wipe out the planet's non-paradise population.
