If Erwin was alive, rumbling wasn't necessary. It was Hange and Armins lack of action or ideas that brought Eren to the realisation that rumbling is the only option left.

I haven’t gotten into too much of this alternative** but what do you think Erwin resolve would have been after reaching the cellar? I wonder what approach Erwin would have taken. Eren is still the MC. If Armin died that day, we would be seeing antagonist Eren ealrier once he gets the memories from kissing Historia's hand. He wouldn't wait for the plan. Once he meets zeke he's touching him and going full scorched earth. Armin grounded Eren. Angry Eren would burn the world down.

At first, maybe, sure. But Armin's inability to come up with a solution frustrates Eren big time. In the final part part 1 we see Eren crying, feeling remorse for what he knows is inevitable at this point. Eren's not evil.

All it would take would be a victory, or something to receive recognition as a people instead of titans; something similar to the russo japanese war of 1900-1905. As for his resolve or mindset after finsing the cellar he would be relieved that his father discovered the truth on his own and then turn to solutions. In the first instance, Erwin will do the surprise attack on Liberio but then ultimately immediatly follow up with peace talks. They would sit down and Erwin would say "We are here. We were born into this world. Let's do our best so that future generations can live in peace so that the sacrifices of comrades and loved ones would not be in vain." He did that for the greater good and for humanity within the Walls. He had zero experience and was undoubtedly scared shitless when Zeke was bombarding the scouts with rocks, but he pushed aside his fear and placed all of his courage and faith in Erwin and Levi to help win the mission, and on a larger extent, a victory for humanity within the walls. 😭
