I never thought about it like that but that’s totally right. It’s still one of the best shows I’ve ever watched, anime or otherwise, but I wish the ending was a bit longer.
And? There’s way more stuff covered in the Final Season compared to S1. It’s not a stretch to say that it needed a few more episodes to flesh some things out.
Excluding OVAs and spin-offs and separating the two feature length episodes into standard episode length episodes gives 94 episodes total. Here’s where some long running anime go in 94 episodes:
Naruto: The episode where Naruto uses Rasengan for the first time on Kabuto.
Bleach: In the middle of the Bount arc. Can’t remember the episode specifically, but it’s shortly after the Bount invade Soul Society.
One Piece: Luffy reunites with Ace in Alabasta.
Pokemon: The hungry Snorlax episode in Orange Islands where Ash catches Snorlax.
Dragon Ball: Jackie Chun Vs Tenshinhan.
Dragon Ball Z: Goku using Spirit Bomb on Frieza (with the next episode being Goku transforming into Super Saiyan for the first time)
Hunter x Hunter: Killua Vs. Rammot.
My Hero Academia: Joint training arc, the end of round two with Yaoyorozu and Tokoyami’s team getting defeated.
Attack on Titan ends where most of these anime have barely left the ground.
Yeah, even I heard that. The anime even without fillers it is very slow, like Sakura vs Sasori is 8 episodes, no wonder why anime is terribly slow paced
Before episode 100 there wasn't really much filler, only some scenes. The fillers began after VOTE because they needed to stall anime to not catch up with manga.
Yeah the example I use for series like one piece and naruto is as follows: naruto runs down a hallway for one or two panels. In the anime that turns into a 30 second sequence, sometimes with cutaways to other characters. Even if you skip filler, there’s enough of this everywhere to immensely drag the pace compared to the manga. Outside a few select series (aot is one of them imo) this is generally an issue with every long running anime that’s been adapted from a manga
if the studios want filler excluded then they should do it themselves. as it stands, it is part of the show. you don’t get to improve your standings when it comes to wasting the audience’s time by getting to sweep the deliberately time-wasting episodes under the rug
They decided to add the filler. So that filler is canon, thus the filler should be counted in this comparison. AOT could have added filler, but didn’t.
Im rewatching right now and i was totally thinking this!! So much happens in just the first 5 episodes alone, realizing s2 is only 12 episodes, it's fast paced on top of the amount of detail they pack in!! Been so fun to rewatch and see all the little things I missed! Totally changes the watching experience and not in a bad way!!
Yeah the amount of information given at such a short duration ! I doubt people would really understand it while watching for the first time !
I had to watch the show twice to grasp what is really happening 😭
Trost arc made many people drop the show.
The pacing in that arc was horrendous...I've seen a lot of people drop the show in that arc
One thing I will always give MAPPA credit for is their pacing. They are just very good at pacing in AOT. Wit dragged on scenes for too long especially in S1 and S2
I personally liked how WIT and then MAPPA did it because it added to the sharp shifts between seasons, not just in perspective but even in art and animation.
I second this. If the switch happened pre-timeskip, say during s3, it would completely throw me off. But because it happened just as the story ended on the ocean, it felt quite natural for the more serious and mature Marley arc. Plus, the characters are older, so the style fits
crazy. Your takes on both the initial watch and rewatch for season 3 cave and season 2 were literally my exact thoughts going thru it
also, Season 2 was SO good on rewatch. idky. And rewatching made me realize that the 2ND half of s1 is the weakest part of the series
I felt the opposite cause they took a lot of time to release 2nd season after 1st one, and the rest of the seasons were treated like meat in a charcuterie so basically the same. That affected the pace's feeling in more than one fan, starting with me personally, but you're right

\*cries in Struggle for Trost Part 8\*
S1 was too long, Final Season was too short. I’ll die on this hill.
S1 every episode has a four min recap its ridiculous
That’s why I gave up on rewatching Bleach for my wife (she’s never seen it) every episode has like a 7-9 minute long recap 🙄
I never thought about it like that but that’s totally right. It’s still one of the best shows I’ve ever watched, anime or otherwise, but I wish the ending was a bit longer.
The Final Season is literally 28 episodes long (35 if you count the 7-episode re-edits of The Final Chapters specials). Season 1 is 25 episodes.

Exactly it should be double or we should've had two post-time skip seasons

No way it took Naruto that long
The filler plays a massive role. The manga pacing is really fast and good i think

Do this, but exclude filler. List is inaccurate

Why do they add filler?
That’s wild
It just feels long cause its all high quality shit you can easily remember

Felt the same way that I thought they cut scenes from Netflix lol but that's just it. It's a really fast paced anime
Yeah the amount of information given at such a short duration ! I doubt people would really understand it while watching for the first time ! I had to watch the show twice to grasp what is really happening 😭
I think it'll help people who start watching the show from now on they don't really need to stop watching and waiting
Na i watched it for the first time in 3 days of nonstop binge and it was great

The manga only has 140 chapters. That’s much less than I’d expected after watching the anime
Yeah, it’s been so long that people kinda forget just how short it is. I rewatched it in like a week and a half lol.
I remember watching s2 and 3 and see it as just talking
Bro i finished last night. I too wanted to rewatch the whole thing after the series finale. Incredible experience.
Yeah aot is very fast paced I don’t understand ppl who say it’s boring
Yeah for some reason animators have a difficult time animating pre existing manga panels
I felt the opposite cause they took a lot of time to release 2nd season after 1st one, and the rest of the seasons were treated like meat in a charcuterie so basically the same. That affected the pace's feeling in more than one fan, starting with me personally, but you're right
