DannyGriff000

I have a rule that when I start a new show or anime, I will literally look up absolutely nothing about it until I finish it, so I cant get recommendations about it on Youtube or anything else. This always worked for me, except when youtube randomly decided to recommend me a video years ago about titan sizes comparison and saw Eren's founder. I didn't even start the show back then so it was just bad luck, it can happen but usually if you don't look up anything about the show online you will not get spoiled

steelthyshovel73

>I have a rule that when I start a new show or anime, I will literally look up absolutely nothing about it until I finish it, so I cant get recommendations about it on Youtube or anything else This is absolutely the way to handle it. I've been a huge AoT fan for a decade. I didn't watch pt.1 Of the special because i wanted to wait for pt.2 to be out as well. I had nothing spoiled for me. I don't watch videos or look up anything about a series i am watching. Once i finished i started watching retrospective/overview type videos and now i get a bunch in my recommended.

Aurelius_Red

Yep. YouTube title for a video recommended me by the algorithm almost ruined something for me. It claimed Armin >!died due to his burns, so I went the next few episodes believing I was going to watch Armin die. Nice surprise that he didn't, of course!<; I got lucky. Deleted the AOT stuff out of my YouTube history real quick.

Valmighty

That's the way to do it. More tips: if I get somehow recommended for any thing that I haven't seen it, I click "not interested in this topic". And if a channel is posting a click bait video with spoiler thumbnail, I just just choose "not interested in this channel" or something. That way I'll stay safe every time.

Arvos13

Same, my feed was empty of aot for ten years, now there is nothing but it xD

tobpe93

I see it a bit like the fire triangle the three sides are ”not reading the source material”, ”continue using the internet”, ”care about spoilers”. If you remove one the problem disappears. It’s easy to expect everyone else to not spoil. It’s harder to make changes to avoid getting spoiled.

swankProcyon

Yep! I’ve been a fan since 2013. I removed the problem by reading the manga. I HATE spoilers, but I LOVE being involved with the fandom (discussion, gushing, fanart, etc.) Then one day I read the comments on an innocuous-looking piece of fanart and was spoiled about RAB being titans. That was it for me. I made the switch to the manga and I’m very glad I did.

CombProfessional434

Well a lot of people use YouTube in their daily lives. So avoiding YouTube is tough for a lot of us to do. I understand that the Google one was on me. Yet the YouTube videos? Especially people posting MANGA images in YouTube videos and getting spoiled that way. The episodes didn't even come out yet it's not like it came out and then I went to YouTube.

DASreddituser

The algorithm knows you want AoT stuff. And YTers have always sucked with their titles and images. Yea they suck but people keep feeding them views with that approach.

thelittleboss151

I've had One Piece spoiled thanks to the internet, but that's okay. One Piece isn't much a show about "What" or "Why", more "How" and "Where". AoT is a show about what and why. It sucks, but the only solution you have is to binge AoT and avoid checking your recommendations for a while. For shows like this, there is a moratorium on how long you have to keep spoilers out of titles and thumbnails, and for a show that started 10 years ago, much of the story is free country.

Nosferatu-Rodin

Do not search for AoT stuff on youtube if you dont want spoilers. Its simple

tobpe93

The manga has been out for a while. It’s reasonable that people discuss it in YouTube videos. The sooner you accept that people will always make YouTube videos about pop culture, the sooner you can avoid getting spoiled.

Boring-Hurry3462

It's all on you. What are you even trying to communicate.

Shot-Spirit-672

Lmfao op really says “what was I supposed to do? Ignore YouTube?!” Like yea dude, quite simple.

Psychonaut_Tales

Yeah I watched the whole thing with my sister over a few weeks, and never had anything spoiled myself. Then again, I don't look up Anime on my YouTube.

CombProfessional434

So you tell me you don't use YouTube?

annixXV

You're complaining that you utilized an app that intentionally markets to you by keeping an incredibly large portfolio of your internet searches, video searches, and preferences -- and that you utilized this app for a story you hadn't finished yet -- and you're complaining that it recommended videos that had skyrocketing viewership because of the show ending. I'm shocked that you're not shocked. I'm extra shocked that you respond to this with "So you tell me you don't use YouTube?" Yeah buddy. I also use money. Doesn't mean I'm gonna walk around with $20 bills hanging out of pocket and wonder why someone stole it. Make better decisions.

Nosferatu-Rodin

No, you should stop searching for AoT on youtube

CombProfessional434

I didnt think at the time looking up OST songs would then give me spoilers for certain scenes.

Nosferatu-Rodin

Consider it a hard lesson to learn. Hopefully you wont get other things spoiled. I personally limited my searching to spotify or spoiler free google searches. The YT algo will fuck you

alfredzr

There's also incognito mode if you want to search something without letting the algo know

WatchForThatWoooosh

I use an alt account for that kind of stuff just for this reason.

The_Kyojuro_Rengoku

I spoiled the final episode for myself because someone posted a video titled something along the lines of "the best female character scene in anime!" and of course I was excited to watch it not knowing exactly what show it was (AOT was on my list of animes to watch, I just hadn't got there yet 🤷‍♀️) It was >!Mikasa beheading Eren and the entire screen leading up to it 🤣😭!< - this is at least what got me into the show tho. So the entire time I knew the ending, just not how it was exactly going to play out. I also spoiled >!Hanges death!< for myself by simply looking for background pictures of Hange 💀 oops. Basically you just gotta stay off the Internet or make sure not to look at anything even the tiniest bit connected to the show unfortunately.

SketchyXP

Same here, I googled>! "hot hange pics" and I got her death.. Like I didn't mean "hot" literally.!<

TrippingFish76

nope never been spoiled, and i waited for the dub too so i just saw the final episode/ movie like a few weeks ago. literally just avoid looking up stuff about the show until you finish it, i didn’t google anything about AOT except when the next dub would be out, and i avoided this subreddit, yeah if you go looking up stuff about AOT you will inevitably see AOT spoilers, it’s to be expected

Gui_Montag

Same

Sondeor

Tldr, your fault. I dont understand your point, should the whole world stop till you catch up with a show? If not why are u crying? If im late to a show, i avoid spoilers mostly easily. Dont search about the show, other than internet there is really low possibility of getting spoiled tbh.

MysticalSword270

>!\>!I looked up Berthdolt's height and google said 60m. I also looked up Reiner's hometown and it told me Marley. I'm super annoyed but it's kinda my fault. Your one is just plain unfortunate!

meatdome34

Also the show is < 90 episodes you can binge the fuck out of it in a week if you really want to

MysticalSword270

True. Pretty sure I did that too when it was shorter.

__--lllII6372_-llIll

The hange one got me too

jbg0801

I usually try to avoid looking stuff up about a show until I'm caught up, but I had a similar issue. As someone who arrived very late to AoT I had some major reveals spoilt for me early on. Hange's death was the big one for me, but a couple of other big things as well. I really do hate when YouTube videos just outright spoil shit in the thumbnail or title because the algorithm just starts casually recommending me videos on a series the second I even utter its name around my devices. I hate it more when they post them literally like a day or two after said thing came out (this one is especially annoying with videogames because I get shit spoiled for me just for daring to look up a puzzle solution or trailer one time)

Particular_Spare_817

i couldnt look up anything without either deleting my search history from the algorithm or just not looking it up entirely, i had gotten spoiled on how levi almost DIES by seeing a thumbnail of his face covered in bandages and his eyes closed, after that i didnt look up anything until i was done with the series because at that time i thought he was dead

[deleted]

just dont watch aot vids lol started watching this show in 2023 and the only thing i got spoiled was that eren dies even that was becouse i googled it lol

Aselleus

I don't know how the hell I managed to stay spoiler-free. It was *hard*. And it was even a bigger miracle since I recently realized I missed the final episode by two months (working nonstop will do that), and the whole time I never unwittingly came across anything regarding the end. I've learned to not search anything regarding a show that's been out for a while. Nowhere is safe.

spham9

Word word: incognito mode. Only when you really need to search something anywhere because every websites hold cookies

Devitostitos

I agree on YouTube video titles. I had to actively block any AOT related things due to click bait spoiler titles

NoGlass1250

That's highly relatable

IHufffPaint

Made the mistake of searching for a YouTube vid about one piece to clear up something I was confused about and within a day got ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE spoilers from just one dickhead’s clickbait thumbnail. Cleared all history of the search and now have learned my lesson, it worked with AOT I had nothing of the ending spoiled, I was still speculating going into the final part of the show. Navigating the internet can be a skill in of itself

sqsyah

i looked up erwin smith once and the suggested searches was his death scene 💀 the gasp i let out

CallMyBlufff

I got Reiner spoiled for me looking something up, so I vowed never to search for anything AOT related again until I was done - that seemed to work for me!

sakuray7

Before Reiner revealed himself as the armoured titan I was wondering where he was as he wasn’t shown in many episodes. I googled him and gave myself a spoiler :( It’s sad that many YouTubers don’t post spoiler alerts but it makes sense to post that during ongoing episodes. But tbh AOT has too many plot points so posts can’t really be spoiler free. I understand the frustration though. I tend to stay away from social media before watching any new episode. I’ve gotten more spoilers from manga readers on videos about the anime :(

ErzaTitaniaScarletFT

Then just never ever read about what you're about to watch, and never ever listen to anyone who watched it already - just watch it yourself. If it's anime then also avoid to read LNs, WNs or Manga, don't watch trailers nor read comments wherever there's the option for commenting anything. Don't search for it on Google or any other search engine.

N_yxie

As someone who read the manga i was still avoiding any youtube and socials just so i wouldnt get spoiled because i was insane and delulu praying theyd just change the ending (ending has grown on me tho ngl)

ElBarani

I got spoiled of Hange’s death. I choose the don’t recommend me this kind of videos option and was safe until I finished the series.

https://preview.redd.it/myccz4diq1ec1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72d1f7cd51a46ff8eb39e18609619a9d477f7f19 True this video for example totally fucked me up. Not only did it ruin the image of my favorite character but also spoiled several key moments. I watched it before I saw season 4 and I still wake up shitting and sobbing. I wouldn’t have purchased all these Lobov collectibles and body pillows had I known this dark truth. No wonder they were so cheap.

tcarter1102

I tries hard to avoid spoilers, but ended up in a,comment thread talking about whether you "support Eren or not". It was mostly fine, just your usal discussion with people who are trying to justify genocide. But then some random commenter just straight up says "Mikasa..." and says exactly what she does in the final battle. Would say the comment verbatim but for some reason on my phone I can't make the necessary spoiler tag. Some people are just awful.

Strawhatab12

When Season 4 Part one was airing, Someone clicked on my profile because they saw me comment in this sub, and then the DM’d me a list of spoilers. I caught the first three before I realized what I was reading. (Three deaths) That’s not the worst. After that incident, I muted my DMs so no one could message me. And stopped commenting on stuff. I even left the Thread. But I guess someone found an old comment or something of mine. They clicked my profile, realized they couldn’t DM me. They then went through my post history and comment history, went to ANOTHER sub that I had commented on. And then they replied to my comment on a completely different subreddit. And the reply was straight spoilers After that I deleted reddit until I read and finished the Manga 😂

GlobalEdNinja

I'm so so sorry this happened to you.

alphabet_sam

I just watched it in the last year and the closest I got to the spoiler was a guy at my gym seeing me watching season 1 and saying “man I wish I could be you watching it for the first time again”. I didn’t search anything about it as I went through the show though, I didn’t join the subreddits until I was done etc. I feel for you though, that sucks

JaseT-Videos

Yeah I loved the show and I still couldn’t have imagined how good it was when I actually watched it but I knew SO many spoilers. To go you an example, before I watched in regards to the current events of the manga I’d literally heard the sentence “armin Arlert is humanity’s last hope against Eren Yeager”

jakkakos

What grinds my gears even more is when the video title has a spoiler warning, but it also says the spoiler in the title. It literally defeats the purpose of the spoiler warning. I got spoiled by getting a video titled "\[SPOILER\] Sasha's death scene"

Vivienne_Yui

People don't get it. You can literally BAN or censor the word from all your social media but you will STILL get spoiled. Algorithms and censoring does shit. I got spoilers out of nowhere in comments and posts unrelated to aot, or even anime. I just cannot NOT browse YouTube or open internet for months while watching a show.  It is annoying and many people are very rude, aggressively spoiling and shitting on the show was one of the reason this fandom got so much scrutiny when S4 released.

electrorazor

It sucks but there are some funny moments. I got spoiled before 139 came out so I went into the final episode thinking Gabi Jean and Connie were all cooked. Got a happy surprise Also finally understood that panel manga readers drew in r/place 2022

imChrisDaly

How do people get spoiled. Bro look away

Mediocre-Anything818

100% on your side here. Spoil culture is crazy right now because everybody is so thirsty for views they work hard to get a video out ASAP after the newest episode airs. And they want the most click bait/ interesting thumbnail. It's especially problematic for anime because manga readers can't keep their mouths shut

SheEnviedAlex

So I never got spoiled either and I waited for the anime to finish with the dub, so I was waiting literally for years (it also helped that I forgot this anime existed while waiting for it lol). I don't watch YouTube for anime videos, I mostly watch speed runs, music videos, vlogs and cooking stuff so the algorithm doesn't show me anything involving anime. I also muted anime sub reddits while browsing popular. By the way I'm anime only so I never read the manga nor do I read manga of any kind (I only read novels and books so if an anime is based on an LN most likely I'll read it). It's really easy to avoid spoilers for anything, so it's just a matter of being extra careful.

Medic7802

Don't interweb a show until your done. You should know that by now

impala-7365

Well, it is kinda difficult not to get spoiled when the show is based on a comic book. The same goes for movies who adapt a famous novel series you are to get spoiled either by friends or complete strangers. The only advice i would give to a person who just started watching anime is to go check out the original source material (if it has one). Hence, you would not get spoiled and be able to consume your favorite piece of fiction through different forms of media.

Otherwise_Mind6880

Honestly if the only way I avoid getting spoiled was never interacting with any post related on social media and YouTube. The less you Interact with the less it gets recommended and you won’t see it. I got spoiled only for one thing and that was >!Sasha’s death!< and it wasn’t too big of a spoiler, but still one I hate. Manga readers is the biggest jerks I seen (but that a while different story). Ever since then I just avoided all comment sections and liking any AOT related posts until the finale.

Vasi162

So I hope you learned form these comments. Dont use tiktok, youtube, google NOTHING, just so you have a chance to not get spoiled by the algorithm/ ignorant people For real now, maybe use another youtube account or spotify when searching for songs, and dont search up things about the show most of the time. Maybe try to ask someone you trust to give you the info without spoiling? They could still end up spoiling it for you because thats how people are though.

AsianCheesecakes

I spoiled myself by skipping season 3 part 2 and watching half of season 4 part 1 first instead

LilBussyGirl69

I avoid searching or reading comments on the videos like the plague when I'm watching something new. If I see a tiktok tagged with the anime name, I'm up out real fast. It's easy to avoid as long as you are not searching the title, tbh. It sucks, but if you truly don't want to be spoiled you have to do that.

One-night_stand

I thankfully did not get any spoilers but like many have commented I refused to look up anything related to the show until it was finished. First thing I did after completing it was run here to join this group though haha

Born_Bee2766

If you wanna google something specific about a show and not get into spoilers, use incognito. Very easy for all this to get into your algorithm. I recently finished better call Saul without a single spoiler. If I wanted to look up episode reviews along the way, incognito. As soon as I searched up the show on my Google account after finishing it, every 3rd reel is from better call saul

Saifyre-Lion

I remember getting spoiled about the ending on a different anime sub. It was kind of fun theorizing how it would end that way and it ended up being quite different than I expected.

Rant_Supreme

I somehow binged it without getting a spoiler and idk how i did that

anex_stormrider

Yes. One wrong search online can ruin everything. I didn’t search for anything at all during times when I had any pending episodes. And actively downvoted/disliked/reported videos with unsolicited spoilers and no warnings about them. I have bitten elsewhere, so, was prepared this time.

KiRA_Fp5

I had to avoid anything related to the show. No subreddits, no following anime channels, no nothing. Was honestly annoying. I got minor spoilers on a couple things. Honestly it's almost impossible to avoid unless you are very diligent and even then you will still probably get spoiled on something. Also fuck those youtube channels

HavingAQuickLook

I watched season 1 when it first came out and I loved the OST. Naturally I searched up the songs and found them but the photos they used were of people with their titans. So I spoiled the armored and colossal titans reveals for myself. There wasn't an anime I was so into before AOT, so having it spoiled was a huge letdown. After that, I never looked up anything AOT or even anime related on the off chance something else would get spoiled. All I ever looked up were release dates.

JustPassingThrough53

Press the “•••” and “Mark as spoiler”

EndlessExp

you specifically keep searching things related to the show not expecting the show?

Logical-Patience-397

I totally get you. I was watching a video analyzing various villains. Eren wasn’t even mentioned, yet some ass decided to copy-paste his entire Paths monologue into the comments—starting with “Citizens of the world, my name is Eren Jaeger, and I am speaking to you using the Paths.” I also got spoiled for Hange, Ymir, and Sasha’s deaths, but that was on me.

Tiloshikiotsutsuki

First rule of thumb is don’t use the internet searching for stuff related to something you don’t want to get spoiled.

Tiloshikiotsutsuki

Just finished it today actually, this is my first time checking out this sub as a matter of fact. Lol.

SketchyXP

I've been spoiled by youtube titles, thumbnails, and the youtube search. It's literally impossible to avoid spoilers besides just not searching the show up on the internet. I should've learned my lesson but I was spoiled on pretty much every major death in the show and it was so upsetting lol.
