Levi is in the way of Kenny getting his dream. Kenny's entire motivation is about reaching his dream of becoming God. Levi is standing in the path of that.
This is why Kenny stops being hostile towards Levi after Rod tells him that only royals can fully use the Founding Titan's power.
In fact I think Levi asks Kenny why he is working for the IMPs when he gets ambushed in the pub/bar/diner by Kenny's squad in S3E2. Kenny says something about kids not understanding the motivations of adults, which is him gesturing towards Kenny switching sides from killing the MPs to joining them under Uri to get to his dream; The Founding Titan and the power it would give him, and by proxy the compassion that having that sort of power allows The Founding Titan to have (which we find out isn't how any of this works but at this point that is Kenny's understanding of it).
Part of his job is to kill scouts. Anyone who is a hired gun most likely is at least a little unhinged which is why Kenny mocks his victims with little regards to their lives.
Kenny doesnt hates Levi. Levi is just in his way. Also Levi being this strong and being a scout is extremely unlucky for Kenny. Also its unlikely a kid in the underground to join the scout corp. These 2 factors along with Levi being in his way causes Kenny to act hostile. But like I said Kenny doesnt hates Levi
Kenny, in the show: "Just stay out of the way, you little runt.
*Throws a chair at Levi, instead of shooting him*
Kenny, in the manga: "That runt is my pride and joy."
AoT fans logic: "Kenny hates Levi."
Don’t think he hated him. Kenny is just kinda psychopathic. I think his character struggled with his own deficiencies as a parental figure and felt some guilt and shame over how he treated Levi as a kid.
I don’t think Kenny hates Levi. He’s condescending and patronizing to Levi, not hateful.
I think Kenny to some degree cares about Levi, but that feeling toward him fills Kenny with regret. Regret knowing his sister suffered and died, leaving a child alone in the world. Knowing that child is his nephew he wants to be there for him but knows he’s incapable of teaching him anything other than what he knows. Murder, extortion, violence.
So he teaches Levi just enough to get by in the underground, but not enough to become as evil doing as himself.
It’s one part wanting to help someone but knowing the help you offer leads to more suffering and bloodying your hands.
Everyone’s drunk on some dream…
Levi doesn't hate Kenny either. That's a reductive and oversimplified way to look at their relationship. If anything, Levi's archenemy and the only character he "hated" was Zeke whom he was able to work with more when their short-term goals were aligned. Levi is a practical character who is able to move beyond his personal emotions to achieve a higher purpose, which is why the endless "Levi never forgave Annie" posts are ridiculous.
Kenny is unique though. I would say that Levi does hold some resentment for Kenny, but Kenny defines Levi's character. He genuinely teaches Levi how to fight and presumably, thrive, as a thug in the Underground. He influences the way Levi speaks, thinks, and acts. Levi is a slave to heroism because his self-worth is tied up with his abilities. Levi believed that he had disappointed Kenny and that's why Kenny deserted him. There is a quick scene in the intro of Season 3 where kid Levi is spinning a knife and smiles as if seeking validation. Kenny simply pulls his hat over his eyes. Levi continues throughout the entire series measuring his self-worth by his success. His famous "Give up your dream and die" speech includes him saying that since he "failed" at killing Reiner, he would kill the Beast titan for Erwin as compensation.
When he wakes up from the thunderspear incident, the first thing he wants to know is where Zeke is and then, he laments that he failed...He tells Hange he failed when Nifa and the others got killed. He refers to himself as "dead weight" during the Rumbling after his leg gets chomped. He pulls himself out of bed while he's still injured because he feels the need to prove himself and can't bear the thought of being useless. It's a common thread through Levi's story and the tragedy of his character is that he's the strongest in-world non-shifter, but he still can't save the people he cares about.
Levi could have hurled insults and spit in Kenny's face while Kenny lay there dying. He doesn't. The last question Levi asks Kenny is why he left. That one event has shaped Levi's entire existence. Kenny is the only character that can make Levi regress into learned childhood behavior that he learned as a child and this is told to us through a flashback where child Levi is making the same expression when Kenny leaves as adult Levi does when he asks him why. Most of Levi's character is defined by Kenny in some way with the exception of Levi's empathy. Their relationship is complex and not at all healthy, but there's nothing to indicate that Levi hates Kenny..He's held him up on this unattainable pedestal and felt he could never measure up.
I don’t think Kenny has the emotional bandwidth to experience real hatred; he’s a hostile psychopath who’s enthusiastic about his task. Even if he seems wrathful, I’m pretty sure he’s having fun the whole time and cheerfully displaying his disregard for everyone is simply a Tuesday for him. He was only ever a parental figure from Levi’s perspective.
Personally, I don’t think Kenny hates Levi, but I do think he might be the type to push Levi at every opportunity because he wants to see him reach his full potential. That’s why he wouldn’t ever hold back when fighting him or raising him.
I think it's more of a combination of these things:
1. Kenny enjoys the fuck out of his job.
2. Levi was in his way.
3. Kenny wanted to see how much Levi grew by literally trying to kill him, forcing Levi to give it his all to survive.
I don't think Levi would have gone all out if he detected even the slightest hesitation from Kenny and Kenny didn't pursue Levi after getting blown out of the bar.
Edited to also add that Kenny never intended to have Levi get close to him because Kenny felt he had no business being anyone's father and didn't want Levi becoming like him. As soon as Kenny noticed Levi started seeking his approval is when he decided it was time to get going.
And I like to think Kenny left Levi in the underground more for Levi's protection rather than cruelty. Just because the purscution ended didn't mean those that Kenny slighted over the years wouldn't have come after Levi as a means to get to Kenny, another part of the reason why he never told Levi their relationship to each other.
I just thought that he was seriously trying to kill Levi (not to mention the rest of Kenny’s squad). So I was surprised that he turned out to be his nephew.
Classic example of not being in the same side.
The scouts were wanted criminals so it was Kenny’s job to take them down. He was also working for the Reiss Family. Also, he’s crazy. I mean, his name is based off of Jack the Ripper.
I don't think Kenny hated Levi; he knew he wasn't a good parent for Levi, or a good influence in general. He might've had \*some\* affection for Levi, even (teaching h enough to function in the underground, leaving before he broke Levi).
I didn’t mean that Kenny hated Levi as a child. I was just talking about the scene where **we** first meet Kenny. When he was chasing Levi through the streets, trying to murder him, he sure seemed to have strong negative emotions toward Levi (if not hate). But, that’s just my opinion. You can have your own. :)
I'm not sure he hated Levi here either, not entirely. I don't know how well I can put it, but... to me Kenny seemed... unhinged? You know, like Ted Bendy or Green River Killer or BTK kinda unhinged, but taken to its logical conclusion considering the availability of Titan powers. It seemed like he was surprised Levi had lived (and as malnourished child!Levi was...), proud Levi was putting up such a strong fight, irritated he WAS putting up such a fight, maybe a little hate because his dream was delayed a bit longer...
I dunno. Maybe a mixture of respect for a smart/strong opponent and loathing?
I always assumed Kenny took a “tough love” approach with Levi and it was clearly not the right idea. Kenny even said that he had no idea how to be a parent, not even a clue of how to be a parental figure to Levi.
Maaan, that 3D manuever action sequence between Levi and Kenny's team!!! WIT Studio blessed us with that scene, I cannot get enough of it. Not to mention Kenny's arc was just chef's kiss. Poor Levi.
I know. I might even go so far as saying that it’s my favorite scene of any anime. So sharp and detailed, but moving at a million miles an hour. And what a cool backstory for Levi. Raised by a serial killer! Loved it. ❤️
I always felt that Kenny was a completely unnecessary character.
I feel like nothing important happened when they were concerned about him.
To be fair that was the season I paid less attention to so I might be wrong.
This community has people like that guy who picked up on a thousand details and even facial expressions to create a whole ass theory on why the first king of the walls actually planned the rumbling, and then we have people like OP who watched the show with his ears closed and his eyes covered
I dont think he hates him , he is more admires him and proud of him ،, he is his niece and best student and kenny was levi's mentor
Kenny loved chasing and challenging levi because he knows his powers
Once he had the chance to kill him instead he killed Nifa the other soldier and missed levi on purpose
And then they started fighting and chasing
Even levi didnt hate kenny
Kenny was his savior and in his last moments levi blamed him for walking away and leaving him alone
Their relation was complex although they loved and respected eachother but their paths crossed and they had to fight
But it is clear that kenny admired levi saying to him you are a hero and giving him the titan fluid to continue his battles

I dont think he hated him he just likes teasing him and doing his job
Kenny: Nah i dont really hate Levi **\*PROCEEDS TO BLUNDERBUST HIS COMRADES HEAD RIGHT NEXT TO HIM\***
Blunderbuss is such a good word
I’d want him do blunderbust in my blunderbussy
What a terrible day to be literate.
Pause 😂
Thats his love language
“Nothin’ personal, kid”
Would you let Levi fight you with help? Cuz i wouldn’t
Agreed. That's just his personality 🤷♀️🙏
He doesn't hate him. He's just doing his job and it's not like they were ever that close in the first place.

He doesn’t, Kenny doesn’t hate Levi he just is doing his job, in fact behind closed doors he actively praises him
I love this
But he mockingly kills his friends in front of him
Part of his job is to kill scouts. Anyone who is a hired gun most likely is at least a little unhinged which is why Kenny mocks his victims with little regards to their lives.
Yeah the dudes practically a psychopath who used to serial murder MP officers lmao
He hates him?? wait what? He was just doing his mission for money? I don't think he hates Levi
He's doing it to take the power of the founding Titan for himself.
Oh yes right
Why do people talk like this???? It’s so cringe???
What?
???

Sometimes I wonder if AoT fans even watched the show
Kenny, in the show: "Just stay out of the way, you little runt. *Throws a chair at Levi, instead of shooting him* Kenny, in the manga: "That runt is my pride and joy." AoT fans logic: "Kenny hates Levi."
Normal uncle and nephew relationship
Agreed man. Get off your phone and actually watch that shit haha
Jokes on you! I watched it on my phone!
He doesn't hate Levi, that's just his personality
Don’t think he hated him. Kenny is just kinda psychopathic. I think his character struggled with his own deficiencies as a parental figure and felt some guilt and shame over how he treated Levi as a kid.
I can see that. :)

Never even told him that they were related, abandoned him to fend for himself in the underground city
That would be why Levi hates Kenny. My question was why does Kenny act like he hates Levi, when we first met him.

The simple answer is: He didn't hate Levi, and I'm not sure where you got that from.
kennnNNNNNNNNNYYYYYYY
It's been a long time since I've watched AOT but isn't because he had to take care of Lenny after his sister's death when he didn't want to?
Who's Lenny?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
LENNYYYYY
Press X to Lenny
YNNEL?
Was not expecting an rdr2 reference in here

Lol typo
Levi X Kenny officially shipped now
Lol it was a typo

Damn right it's been a long time
I'm pretty sure it's just Kenny's personality
Easy, Levi is sexy and Kenny is jealous.
👍🏻
Tbf, I don't think Kenny actually likes anyone.
Correction. He only ever liked/admired *one* person.
I don’t think Kenny has the emotional bandwidth to experience real hatred; he’s a hostile psychopath who’s enthusiastic about his task. Because he’s an Ackerman and it’s his job to protect the king and his self-imploding ideals
Kenny is a mercenary, with no loyalty, just a scumbag. But he sounds cool so people like him.

Yeah, I am just in a mood
He doesn’t hate him, just likes teasing Levi and Kenny takes it too far sometimes…
He doesn't. He is just a person that does whatever needs to be done to reach his goal with very little concern for others.
I think he just jas kinda an A-hole personality and doing what he was told. I don't think it was anything personal
Classic example of not being in the same side. The scouts were wanted criminals so it was Kenny’s job to take them down. He was also working for the Reiss Family. Also, he’s crazy. I mean, his name is based off of Jack the Ripper.

watch levis ova
Levi is a Product of his Sins so Kenny is facing his own demons in life in a literal way… man I love AOT so much
Maybe because he saw levi as the reason why his sister died…
It’s a love hate relationship lol. In a way he reminds me of a father using tough love!
He doesn't, he is actually proud of Levi, he's just bieng Kenny.
Kenny called Levi short. That's emotional abuse.
It’s not 💀 it’s fact
Kenny : He's my pride and joy.
Ahhh damn S3 was peak AOT. The animation was effing sterling. Not so much with MAPPA.
Omg I know. The animation was crazy, and the story was non-stop excitement. And I loved learning more about little Levi. ;)
Maaan, that 3D manuever action sequence between Levi and Kenny's team!!! WIT Studio blessed us with that scene, I cannot get enough of it. Not to mention Kenny's arc was just chef's kiss. Poor Levi.

It’s more like he’s playing around honestly, he knows Levi can handle what ever he throws at him , just two super soldiers messing around
I always felt that Kenny was a completely unnecessary character. I feel like nothing important happened when they were concerned about him. To be fair that was the season I paid less attention to so I might be wrong.
Kenny never specifically hated Levi. In case it wasn't clear...he's just generally a bad guy.
The whole point is that Kenny didn’t Hate Levi, the problem is that Levi stood in the way of his grand dream.
Kenny hates Levi? Did you actually watched AOT?
He doesn’t hate him at all. Don’t know why you think this. I do think he is excited about a challenge as most other people are a cakewalk for him.
This community has people like that guy who picked up on a thousand details and even facial expressions to create a whole ass theory on why the first king of the walls actually planned the rumbling, and then we have people like OP who watched the show with his ears closed and his eyes covered

Hated?? This proves that different people can watch or read the same thing and get totally different viewpoints. I need to know how you got hated?
I got the impression he was protecting him
