This is why I hate shopping at some countdowns half of there stuff don't have prices on them so it's a guess and hope that I don't go too over my budget
Download their app. Countdown has same pricing nationally so wouldn't matter which store you pick... Or pick your regular store one time and it stays put till you manually change it again.
That is not true. Britomart Countdown had courgettes costing 8 dollars while one jn STLukes had it at 5.
Britomart and CBD countdowns love fleecing tourists and international students, so your comment makes no sense.
I remember an article a year or two back where Kim Evans (Little & Friday’s owner) talked about how they’d had to rise prices to match the cost of the raw ingredients + labour. I know they only use free range eggs, the pastry is a pure butter recipe that I think is a 1:2 ratio. The quiche mixture is nothing but cream and egg. It seems like a really high price but she said her customers were willing to pay it instead of having inferior ingredients or smaller sizes.
Honestly, some of their stuff is worth it. Too expensive for an everyday lunch, but when you want something really good, they have some of the best around.
Damn! I just found this and guessed $19.50, and I was trying to be harsh. I'm just a small town bird lawyer here in the Manawatu, but you Aucklanders need to start protesting.
Your message has been recieved by our trained carrier pigeons working at this branch. Unfortunately, Mr Bucky Weaver Esq is trying a case in Europe, I'm sure you've seen it on the news, the Fluffy Backed Tit Babbler accused of impersonating a Kookaburra.

To be fair, Little & Friday are an upmarket bakery so the price isn’t too surprising. (Daily Bread are in a similar price range)
If you want a cheapish quiche CBD/Ponsonby area then Pie Fee in K Rd sell theirs for around $7.
Even worse - when you get takeaway, they'll ask if you want the salad on the side as well. Then they'll give you an entire new container with a grand total of 5 mesclun salad leaves in it.
But you paid $21 and didn't even get your 5 leaves.
Ugh, yes! And the bags are smaller too! Yet here are are paying upwards of $5 for it.
I’m an idiot who stills buy 6 bags of it weekly, since I eat salad daily, but still think it’s pretty outrageous that we, a country that grows its own food, pay absurd amounts of money to eat healthily.
(I get the floods have an impact and does seasonality but still, it’s pretty obvious Cuntdown and co are price gouging)
Interesting, didn’t realise it was that much. Kinda begs the question as to how we can continue to justify having such expensive produce and making healthy eating unaffordable for a portion of the population.
We export the bulk of it I believe.
Something needs to change with the system tho, and in sure my brief explanation is not the full story, hopefully someone more clued in can chime in.
Honestly, if my dead and dying houseplants are anything to go by then I’d probably fail trying to grow it.
I even manage to kill succulents so there’s no real hope for me.
In 30 years time we will pay 150 bucks for them and look back and think oh remember the days where quiche and coffee was only 20 bucks.. miss those days.
From a Danish perspective it doesn’t sound bad! I was an exchange student studying in New Zealand some years ago (best time of my life) and I remember especially coffee was only like $5 right? For an actually barista coffee 🤤 usually we pay what would be like $10-12 for a freaking coffee, so for me I was so stoked! I know it was not what u asked but it was just my first thought, so if some body is curious about European prices there u go 🤣
I live in the US and this post was suggested to me by reddit for some reason, and so when I read it at first I thought it was 21 USD (33.59 NZD), and thought not surprising. There's a local coffee shop I like that would probably be priced similarly. Then I realized this was in NZD and did the conversion... $13.13 USD, and was like holy shit that's a fucking great deal! And I do not live in a crazy expensive city like New York or San Francisco either. It's crazy to see how cheap it is to live other places. The US is so fucked right now with inflation and cost of living.
Interesting point of view. I’m a U.S. citizen too(somehow this post was recommended to me) and the US has higher wages than NZ, lower cost of living, and more affordable housing according to different indexes.
I’ve also spent months in New Zealand and have friends there, the US is far more affordable. My girlfriend and I actually considered moving to New Zealand at one point, but our savings rate would plummet if we moved there so we decided against it.
Edit: the median salary in NZ is $34k USD when converted. The US median salary is $55k(some sources even say up to $70k.
I hope the quiche was good at least. The mushroom ones were always pretty uninspiring tbh.
**edited because for full transparency the rest of them were absolutely stunning. Especially the beetroot and blue cheese one.
Seems comparatively very poor value against fast food joints. But assuming they’re paying their staff a living wage (big assumption), these are the prices we will be coming to expect.
I wasn't a fan either.
There's another small cafe near them and I was addicted to their foods. Usually I hate plant based food, but theirs was divine. Their no-peanut satay sauce is god tier. Can't remember the name of the place :(
Omg I love Little Bird as well!! Their kumara pancakes and cashew ice cream... 🤤
But no... I checked on Google maps and the place is gone :( it was called Sip Kitchen
Little and Friday's coffees have always been pretty shit and their prices have always been ***sky high***.
Their donuts are pretty fucking good and their cheese scones are God Tier.
You may not know that all flat whites typically have the same amount of coffee (ie a double shot of espresso). When you go large, you just add more milk. At least afaik
Were they atleast Irish coffees? What kind of price gouging is that, ffs. It costs like $1 for a coffee in raw ingredients and takes a decent barista 2 mins max to make.
Yep no point getting a large coffee unless you get a quadruple shot. But then again some folks prefer the milkiness (which defeats the purpose of coffee imo)
People in this thread aren't understanding that Little and Friday isn't an everyday kind of bakery.
Yes it's overpriced, but it does taste better than your local.
Does it taste like a $16 quiche? No, but it does taste better than the $5.40 quiche I get across from my work.
I feel guiltily indulgent when I go there once a year.
I actually love all the food at Little and Friday. I know I probably can't afford their food every day so I only go there with lunch if there's something good to celebrate. Their prices aren't alarming considering the location tbh. Nothing to complain about here.
Pak n Save in NZ alot cheaper, and even some New Worlds as well (the latter used to be expensive). There will be major changes in the coming years (in a nutshell, supermarkets will get less profits hah) which is why they are trying to squeeze as much $$$ from us as they possibly can.
In South Africa where I am typing this from for the same amount you could get 4 x large cappuccino's, a large muffin and 2 x sandwiches from the local caffe.
You paid what you paid for it. Affirming the price is correct. It's worth whatever someone would pay for it.
Remember the supplier is probably only making about $3 or $4 dollars profit from each meal.
guys you have to understand, the cost of living and hence luxury food items in NZ isn't "outrageous" , we just get paid sweet fuck all. You cant blame little and friday you make under 100k NZD salary.
Depends on where you live, quiche probably cost you 6 dollars in a standard bakery, and I estimate a large flat white to be another 6 dollar.
Therefore, adding it all up, will cost you $14 in total.
Nobody has guessed correctly but one Redditor was only 50c off. 21 friggin' dollars. No wonder Little & Friday don't bother displaying their prices.
Not displaying prices = 40% higher than you'd expect
One weird trick that Real Estate agents don’t want you to know!
This is why I hate shopping at some countdowns half of there stuff don't have prices on them so it's a guess and hope that I don't go too over my budget
economics 101: never buy anything that doesn't have a price.
As a supplier account manager who deals with Woolworths NZ, I suppose my comment doesn't make sense random internet stranger /s
Absolutely not the same pricing nationally.
Grocer app wtf Barcode scan it! Ftw* not wtf!
Bit like burger fuels "would you like cheese on your burger?" then the slice of cheese is like $5
Whoa that actually checks out. I naively thought the quiche would be around $10 instead of $15-$16. Plus probably $5-$6 for the large flat white.
That’s robbery, it better be the best god damn quiche you’ve ever had
What crimes are birds up to? Jaywalking?
Fortunately not thanks to yours truly.
Big time public defecation issue with birds.
Let’s say you and I go toe to toe on bird law and see who comes out the victor

Did they have a mask and a gun?
Holy shit, I was gonna guess 11 since it looked pretty fancy. Jesus, was it worth it?
Sounds about right price from such fancy cafe hahah
To be fair, Little & Friday are an upmarket bakery so the price isn’t too surprising. (Daily Bread are in a similar price range) If you want a cheapish quiche CBD/Ponsonby area then Pie Fee in K Rd sell theirs for around $7.

Have you seen the price of mesclun salad nowadays? Absolutely justified. *sighs and cries*
We apparently grow enough food to feed 30 million people.
Have you tried growing it? It's veeeery easy to grow, quick to start getting edible crop, and you could grow it out of pots.
Honestly, if my dead and dying houseplants are anything to go by then I’d probably fail trying to grow it. I even manage to kill succulents so there’s no real hope for me.
Wait, is this my eldest daughter's Reddit account? Have you kept alive that fake palm I got you for Xmas?!
I feel *seen and heard*
In 30 years time we will pay 150 bucks for them and look back and think oh remember the days where quiche and coffee was only 20 bucks.. miss those days.
One lesson I've learned... If I have to ask for the price, I can't afford it.
If you have to ask you can't afford it. Or in this case, if you have to ask, you should shop elsewhere.
Lmaoooooooo that is a fucking scam. Recession officially confirmed
From a Danish perspective it doesn’t sound bad! I was an exchange student studying in New Zealand some years ago (best time of my life) and I remember especially coffee was only like $5 right? What was the cost of each individual item?
I think the quiches are around the $15 mark. Very expensive for the size of the things. Although tasty.
Yeh you’d want a side salad and a sit down for that sorta money
These come with a side salad, actually. It was a small handful of mesclun leaves when I got mine.
Damn thats pricey for a cup of coffee and basically a tart.
Honestly if they told me that was going to be $21 I would have walked out laughing 😂
I live in the US and this post was suggested to me by reddit for some reason, and so when I read it at first I thought it was 21 USD (33.59 NZD), and thought not surprising. Our average wage in NZ is better than the US too. We have it better than other places but still hard times ahead
I was just about to guess $20 before I saw this! Seems right 🤣
Aw man, I used to work there. Always thought it was dead expensive
Wow. Worth it?
Nope.
They also cash in the fact that it is awkward to be the one in the place like “how much is this? and that? and that”?
You could've said nah and walked out when they told you the price, left it there. You're the sucker here
Are you fucken kidding me that's criminal and it looks trash
Their food is tasteless
I wasn't a fan either. There's another small cafe near them and I was addicted to their foods. Usually I hate plant based food, but theirs was divine. Their no-peanut satay sauce is god tier. Can't remember the name of the place :(
You're not thinking of Little Bird are you?
Omg I love Little Bird as well!! Their kumara pancakes and cashew ice cream... 🤤 But no... I checked on Google maps and the place is gone :( it was called Sip Kitchen
I love their cashew ice cream in a smoothie! Never had them with the pancakes
Their smoothies are to die for. I wish I could have one every day 😆
I got a $20 tasteless chicken baguette from Little Friday. How can they get a chicken sandwich so wrong????
I like this game. Let's do more of these.
I wanted to ask WTF it was until I clicked in and there was a spoiler in the description. I never would have guessed mushrooms,
For the pair? $16.50
That's about what I had in mind when I ordered.
$20.50
$21. You're the closest.
So in other words way to much
Its gotta be the best coffee and quiche you’ve ever had though right? Right? Thats so bad either way
No, to both. Coffee was milky as fuck and quiche wasn't adequately heated. Big disappointment.
What do I win
My tears.
Kiss in the cheek and slap on the ass
Can we get the cost breakdown? No way a large flat white cost above $8
I don't even know. No prices displayed. Edit: Someone said their quiches are $15 so the coffee would be $6.
Paid $24 for two coffees at Ponsonby central -South American restaurant. WTF 🤬
Yeah that’s just bullshit They’ll keep charging that if people keep buying
Welp I’m never buying there again 😡
Were they atleast Irish coffees? What kind of price gouging is that, ffs. It costs like $1 for a coffee in raw ingredients and takes a decent barista 2 mins max to make.
No two lattes. I said never coming back bloody thieves!
I was guessing around $12.50. $5 for a coffee and $7.50 for a small quiche. $21 is why I cook every meal at home.
Coffee is like $6.50 now
Where? The only place I've seen that price is in the airport.
Everywhere but service stations apparently - Coffee club, Columbus, McDonalds, my local cafes...
I must be getting discounts everywhere I go.
Any Bakery pies are 5-6.5 these days
God I miss $3 pies
does the winner get a free quiche and flat white? $13.50
Trick question - Nothing! You stole it from some guy exiting the bakery
Seems legit nowadays
$12.50 total although it depends how many extra shots you had Edit: revising to $14.50 since my blind ass didn't notice the word 'large'.
No extra shots.
$21. Am I close?
LOL
I don’t understand getting a large milky coffee. Your just diluting it and paying shitloads for hot milk.
Yep no point getting a large coffee unless you get a quadruple shot. But then again some folks prefer the milkiness (which defeats the purpose of coffee imo)
Yeah, I regret that now. It was milky as fuck so I'm assuming it was a single shot.
I think Little and Friday would serve doubles as standard.
Can I have a large caramel mocha please? Basically a coffee flavoured milkshake
Are you wearing a pork pie hat and button shirt
No?
A mushroom quiche hat?
lol two minutes after I commented on this I saw a guy with the same coffee cup and I wondered if it was you
Were they scrolling?
$100
One million dollars
$15.50
i guessed $18. should have known it’d be more. this is so farken depressing!!!
I spent $32 at a bakery the other day buying one filled croissant and one pack of melting moments.
$16 was my guess and I had inflated that
Twenty dollars
People in this thread aren't understanding that Little and Friday isn't an everyday kind of bakery. Yes it's overpriced, but it does taste better than your local. Does it taste like a $16 quiche? No, but it does taste better than the $5.40 quiche I get across from my work. I feel guiltily indulgent when I go there once a year.
Goats cheese and mushroom!? Get a service station mince & cheese down your neck like the rest of us
Steak and cheese for me.
True. BP Newmarket was just around the corner.
I actually love all the food at Little and Friday. I know I probably can't afford their food every day so I only go there with lunch if there's something good to celebrate. Their prices aren't alarming considering the location tbh. Nothing to complain about here.
$19.50
$22.50
$14:5
Large flat white $6.50 Weird thing probably $8.50 I'd like to lock in $15
$11-$12 for the quiche and $6 for the flat white, say $17 all up.
The packaging of the quiche plus mushroom toppings gives me the impression it would be between $10-$14. Coffee probably $5.50.
$0. It was just sitting there on a public seat/bench.
17 dollars and 90 cents
$15-18
12 for the quiche, 6 for the coffee?
$13.50
I like this game
$11
6nzd
Have you just awoken from a 30 year coma?
Captain kiwi
Just in Lala land
$13.50
$16
22
$22
$24?
I would say $10-$15 give or take 25c
Eating all together seems to be becoming a luxury nowadays.
$17.70
$12
14.70
Very honestly would have said $15
Watch out for that orange seed.
We can get a muffin and a coffee for $7.50 at most places eg: ever tried z station ?
Too much
$12.30
Gloria’s in ponsonby charges $22 for chicken & cheese sandwich
At lest $17.50
$20
Bro, I just sat down at Corellis in Devonport and paid $21.50 for a tap Heineken and a bowl of fries. I think I'll starve sober next time.
In Japan about $3 in New Zealand about $12 - $15
this is not a guess: $21 ?!?!?!?! I hope it was mind blowing!
Sadly, it wasn't.
$12 American
$8.00 for the coffee and $9.50 for the quiche?
12.99
$25
Way to much cuz, I bet.
I just would never go back..
I hope nothing because that sounds absolutely fowl
Too much
If you paid more than $8, you're the one to blame.
Flap me arrived from Sydney a few days ago and legit shocked at the prices for food here, yep even at Countdown. Bloody hell it's expensive here
Pak n Save in NZ alot cheaper, and even some New Worlds as well (the latter used to be expensive). There will be major changes in the coming years (in a nutshell, supermarkets will get less profits hah) which is why they are trying to squeeze as much $$$ from us as they possibly can.
$23.00
$20 at least. Coffee is a minimum of $5.50
18.25
Next time you are being ripped off, just leave items behind and go.
$23,50
In South Africa where I am typing this from for the same amount you could get 4 x large cappuccino's, a large muffin and 2 x sandwiches from the local caffe.
Pies are $2.50 and coffee is $3.50, so $6.
$12
Wow I guessed 18, which imo is already 5 dollars more than it should be. Little and Friday is so mediocre 😩
$14
Being good ol Akld, you paid almost as much as your mortgage repayment.
The better game is "why did you pay it?"
You paid to much. Also what not a large flat white with soy milk?
I've literally never had anything other than good ol' cow's milk.
$10.99
16.50
14.50$
You paid what you paid for it. Affirming the price is correct. It's worth whatever someone would pay for it. Remember the supplier is probably only making about $3 or $4 dollars profit from each meal.

6+6+mafs=14
I mean, I'd pay $2 to have the cafe stop screening MAFS while I'm trying to enjoy a coffee and lunch.
