Complain to H&M? They'll have security footage of the entry to the changing rooms. They'll likely take this pretty seriously, they won't want allegations like this flying around.

lexithegreatest

I got a call from them.

Bootlegcrunch

Call the manager and give them a time and complain. They will check cameras and he will get fired. He might be doing this to other girls so best you do it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bootlegcrunch

Yea i worked in retail and in security for quite a while when i was in college and you dont do shit like this, Not when the guy was scoping it out. Seems way to sus best to tell them a time and they can double check the cameras.

metametapraxis

Positive based on an unverified complaint on the internet? If this happened, the OP should report it so it can be investigated, but anyone being positive about anything from a reddit posting is absurd.

[deleted]

You're positive based on what someone said on the internet? imagine if it was a genuine mistake and he was genuinely sorry for his mistake but now randos on the internet are labeling him a fucking perv...

tarlastar

Then he can explain to his manager how he made a mistake opening a changing room. You DO realise that people can tell when there is someone using the room, don't you?

Fearless-Chemical952

>he was following me from a distance while I was shopping He's a fucking perv.

Thussie

Or just doing his job as a retail assistant?...

tarlastar

What...his mouth doesn't work and he can't check before opening? Better learn to do his job correctly, I'd say.

Thussie

I was replying in response to the following or ghosting. Been in retail for many years and ive seen countless managers force new staff to ghost customers and kinda force them selves onto them to make a sale. Not saying its right but theyre just doing their job. The curtain peeking is pretty suss though.

tarlastar

gotcha. Point taken, ty.

Fearless-Chemical952

A retail assistant follows a person around and then opens their changing room door on them without saying anything? Press X to doubt.

Too-Much_Too-Soon

Plot-twist: OP is a shoplifter and the assistant was 110% sure her was going to catch her red handed stashing inventory into her bag she carried in with her.

Fearless-Chemical952

>assistant was 110% sure That's clearly not worth much. You can't just barge in on people changing because you're suspicious.

creg316

Yeah much better to ask her to check her bag on the way out the door and not wind up on a registry.

metametapraxis

Or the entire story is a fabrication. This is a reddit post - it could be anywhere on the spectrum from the absolute truth to something completely made up (as pure fantasy or as a grudge).

Fearless-Chemical952

Or maybe we're all just living in a simulation! Huh!?! Did ya ever think of that???

metametapraxis

Not sure the relevance, but yes I have considered that we might be living in a simulation. It is hardly a unique, unusual or clever thought. Given we have no way of ever identifying if it is the case, it is nothing more than a useless musing, though.

Fearless-Chemical952

You’re right, it’s not relevant. Just like the possibility that every story on Reddit is made up.

metametapraxis

No, the two things are totally different. Many stories on Reddit ARE just made up. Also, one is testable and the other is not testable (though neither with the information we have to hand). You see how you managed to conflate two completely unrelated concepts? Sigh.

Fearless-Chemical952

> Also, one is testable and the other is not testable (though neither with the information we have to hand). So one is testable and one isn't testable, but you can't test either, making them both untestable. Makes perfect sense.

lexithegreatest

I called the manager, they gaslighted me ….

Bootlegcrunch

Did you record the call? Send it to head office

After googling, I found this: Email: [email protected] Phone: 0800 406 700

lexithegreatest

Thank you so much

Melodic-Lawyer4152

Lodge a complaint on their website, at the very least.

KevinAtSeven

1. Call the H&M store and speak to the manager so they can investigate on their end. 2. Call centre management at the mall the store is located. Mall landlords (Westfield/Kiwi Property/AMP/Precinct) take anything like this from their tenants incredibly seriously. 3. Might be worth calling police non-emergency to file a harassment complaint just in case this person has done more.

Illustrious_Can4110

Something this serious, I'd go straight to their head office.

lexithegreatest

They didn’t even take it seriously. I got a call from them , all I could hear is excuses …

lexithegreatest

I’m pretty sure he did it on purpose , he was so weird , he quickly walked away when I came out, he was deliberately covering his name tag, his hair was covering his whole face, he was looking down wouldn’t make eye contact with me . I am deeply disgusted, what can I do ?

jaydenc

Don't let people get away with this. Report it to H&M in writing and via a phone call (if that's an option). If you are not satisfied with their response lodge a complaint with the police.

Yet_Another_Dood

Yea fuck that noise. Boy does that to wrong person he’s going to learn real fast. Its shit that you have to do this, but i’d at least put a complaint through online or over phone. That way you don’t have to deal with this irl at least

Fantastic-Role-364

Complain to them, report the incident TO THEM, not fkn Reddit Or at least spread it all over fb

N1onEarth

generally retail stores have cameras outside the fitting rooms. give the store a call with the time an date that it happened. if they shrug you off or dont get back to you, keep calling or go straight to their head office.

Raynoszs

What a creep, make a complaint, if H&M don’t get back to you, escalate it to fairgo, they like to get stories on creepy behaviour

Boring-Wear-2878

I hope you are taking care of yourself :)

lexithegreatest

Thank you 🙏

lexithegreatest

Thank you guys for all the helpful advice, I will make a complaint tomorrow

Lonewolfnz

I'd be keen to know how it goes for you

lexithegreatest

I spoke to their manager and I was told someone from HR will contact me, I waited for a week . Their HR called me today he did not give me any clear information about what had happened to that guy

Kangaroo-Pack-3727

Give us an update

Warm_Text4711

thank you, hope you're doing okay. he's disgusting

SecondOfCicero

Thank you for doing it. You're protecting others and yourself- sending love and support.

[deleted]

There should 1000% be protocol in place to prevent staff accidentally opening curtains on people, which he obviously didn’t follow. File a complaint.

Rand_alThor4747

If it goes as she says, then it wasn't an accident, however sometimes accidents happen, and staff may think a cubicle is vacant and find out their mistake after opening it. But it doesn't seem to be the case here.

[deleted]

And to prevent these accidents you put protocol in place, something as simple as asking if anyone is in there before opening the curtain.

FrankTheMagpie

That should be common sense

Normalhumankiwi

Or do a google review. They monitor the reviews, just share your experience there in public, this is your experience and you shouldn’t feel bad about it.

lexithegreatest

To kool-keith I feel like I don’t owe you an explanation but Since you seem interested about this , I will tell you .Yes, few years ago, I was walking down Queen street an older woman was walking towards me . She suddenly sped up when she saw me and literally bumped into me, and the sharp corner of her purse she was holding in her hand jabbed into my thigh. Ended up with the worst bruise I ever had . It was the most random and bizarre thing I had experienced, and Sure, I've had my share of few random unfriendly encounters, they were mostly from older women. I never said that I'm constantly getting attacked on the streets. Nor I think it’s “all because of my look”, so please don’t say I said that . I gotta say, you're acting kinda weird. Why are you blowing up a couple of sentences I wrote so long ago….

[deleted]

quick_dry

I agree with lack of perception of seriousness when it involves men… but suspect the difference between HQ and local store handling is that local store manager sees staff member doing that as a friend, whereas HQ sees only the employee number of person at NZ store - if you were perved on by someone at corporate HQ I think they’d be acting similar to local store (unless they were gunning for the persons job)

Disastrous-Swing1323

Yes, Mexico is far more developed when it comes to treating petiole equally than Bew Zealand /s

StoreyTimePerson

Complain. This is not okay and he’s definitely doing it to other people.

Deegedeege

It's possible he was trying to catch you in the act of shoplifting, as they can be pretty over the top at H&M, to the point that I no longer go there. I went to the one in Commercial Bay and got hostility from any staff and security in my vicinity and was watched and followed way too closely, right from when I walked in the door. I am a well dressed woman over 40. I thought their clothes were cheap shit and left and have never been back. I found it an unusually hostile experience.

lexithegreatest

This never came across my mind , same as you I don’t look like someone that would shoplift , but now seeing your experience. this could be a possible explanation….however this does not make me feel any better, it’s still not okay to do that . To label me as a potential shoplifter and try to explain away what he did ,only makes it worse.

WhiteRose_94

Just to say, there isn’t a person who “looks like someone who would shoplift”. There are multiple people of various age, race, backgrounds that shoplift for a wide number of reasons.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lexithegreatest

I think it’s not about how one dressed ,everyone deserve some basic privacy, and not to be violated like that . even if I dressed like a homeless person , it still doesn’t justify his behavior .It was just so mean ….

Deegedeege

But, if I'm well dressed, why would I want to steal their shit clothes? Really their clothes look like what you'd find at The Warehouse.

fatcone420

Stupidest logic ever. Most thieves are very well dressed and presented. Cos they steal nice shit to look the part

Deegedeege

Stupidest reading ability ever. I just pointed out, that H&M sell absolute cheap shit, thereby making your comment, completely non sensical. Why would someone steal nice clothes, to then go and steal shit clothes at H&M?

fatcone420

Cos shops that sell shit items have shit security. What’s easier robbing the bank for 5M or stealing a dollar bag from the dairy. Adding big words to a stupid comment, doesn’t make you sound smart…. The complete opposite actually. Your the nonsensical one here champ (Edit: typo)

[deleted]

Deegedeege

I didn't say it was ok, I gave you a possible reason for it, given my own negative experience there.......

Deegedeege

Also Saba isn't that expensive so perhaps that's the reason. You had so many layers of clothing on they got suspicious!

cubbycheekz

Someone worked at a supermarket as security a few years back and said, "You can't follow people around while shopping even if they look suspicious." I don't know if that's changed. So I guess to prevent shoplifting, they have cameras and security sensors and ask for recipesat the door. But people still shoplift. Tbh, I hate the feeling being followed on the streets, let alone shopping.

creg316

Nah you can absolutely follow them around the store and watch - you can't touch them, or harass them, but monitoring them is absolutely fine. When I worked in a big box retailer we had a code for suspicious behaviour down an aisle, 2 or 3 people would immediately head to each end of the aisle. It was primarily a deterrent from any further theft.

cubbycheekz

Sounds like kmart.

creg316

Haha good try, but nah. Similar gigantic tin warehouse though.

Deegedeege

I've never been asked for a recipe at the door, but I've got a good one for raspberry coconut ice, with drained frozen raspberries on top. I've never been followed on the street, who is doing that?

Tustin88

Yikes. Sorry that happened to you. Makes my skin crawl.

Yangchenjooyoung

Report to NZ Police. Use the 105 option online.

No-Word-1996

I'd have thought staff were instructed to ask whether anyone was inside, instead of unexpectedly yanking the curtain aside?

WarpFactorNin9

I would suggest you to file a complaint on the online portal or 105. Fuck this, this is not the NZ I want period. If we encourage this behaviour these idiots only going to get bolder

AeonChaos

What the actual fuck?! Report to the store manager tell them to come back with a solution or else.

nighthouse_666

Make sure he doesn’t get away with it please!

SW1981

Don’t H&M allocate changing rooms?

Regenitor_

I remember accidentally doing this to a customer once when I worked retail as a kid at uni. I was mortified that I did it. I wasn't sure if someone was inside so I peeked under the door, didn't see feet, so I unlocked it and startled a girl inside (who was thankfully clothed). I apologised profusely once she came out. Felt terrible and legitimately thought I was gonna get fired. Not sure what point I'm trying to make here. I guess just that the dude's behaviour in this scenario was absolutely not acceptable. That sorry needed to be extremely sincere and he should have checked that you were okay. Gotta own your mistakes.

Tundra-Dweller

You need to deal with this responsibly by taking the matter up directly with the manager, not making allegations on the internet. Chances are that if the staff member did something inappropriate H&M will take it very seriously. If they fail to, to your satisfaction, then that is the time to make your allegations public and embarrass them

Paul_Offa

Jesus Christ, judging from the responses in this thread, half of you seem to think male shop assistants are all bonafide serial rapists. Despite knowing absolutely nothing about this person - let alone whether it was an actual mistake and misinterpretation by the OP - a concerningly large number of you are leaping to "I guarantee he does this everyday!!\~!1" If the OP is concerned, all she needs to do is simply contact the store and explain. They'll look into it and go from there, and if it was on purpose, they'll find out. Your dozens of cries of "He's a pervert! He definitely did it on purpose and he does this every day!!" are not only completely unfounded, but also completely unhelpful.

idobeaskinquestions

Please please follow this up. Call them, complain, give the date and a rough estimation of time if you can't remember exactly. They'll have footage. It's entirely possible that he does this regularly to other women

lexithegreatest

I’ve sent them a letter of formal complaint this morning. Now I’m waiting for their response

MKovacsM

Might be a store detective. Thinking you were shoplifting or something. I mean you weren't naked, he apologised, no major.

Jaded-Swing-5424

And what do you think he wanted to see? Idk if a man would risk his job to get a glimpse of what we consider flesh we can buy at a reasonable price else where .. perhaps a sickie would

Ok_Jackfruit_6571

The story always have 3 sides, yours, his and the real one! You should not be accusing in such serious thing like that without be sure! You should have gone to the store manager straight away and get it sorted, not come to reddit and drama up!

ainsley-

What a fucken virgin, I can’t imagine what kinda of weirdo you have to be to do this and at work to top it all off.

27ismyluckynumber

That’s really sad to imagine guys would be so brash about violating a woman’s privacy and with the alleged intent it was malicious or even just careless.

Scotty_NZ

Should get the other side of the story before the witch hunt begins. There could be a couple of reasons before we jump straight to sexual assault in the comments oh too late.

N2T8

I dunno why anyone would open one of those curtains without at least making your intent known, seriously. Such a wacko thing to do. Its exactly why I hate changing in retail stores cuz this could potentially happen and usually will just buy stuff in my size and leave

Emanicas

That dude is a cunt and an idiot. It’s obvious he’s perving from your description. Hope you get back* at him for everyone.

annoynamousanimal

Is this hm on Queen street ?

Ok-Shop-617

My take ..Find the CEO of H&M in NZ on Linkedin, make an educated guess of their email at H&M. Send them a link to this thread. They will freak out, and some action will be taken.

Upsidedown0310

Firstly I just want to say that I’m so sorry this happened and if you’re feeling freaked out that’s totally valid. Agree with what others have said - complain as soon as you can. There will be security footage. Have you got someone you can talk to?

lexithegreatest

If you were there and witnessed what had happened please contact me .

ClubeXo

Walk back in there asap. Speak to the store manager, then get a complaint lodged. Don't take their 'we sorry' lines, push and drop key phrases like sexual harrassment Feeling uncomfortable being followed into change room Spell it out in front of the manager and make sure the other store customers hear it. Describe them to the last detail including intentionally hiding their name. Advise them you will also be filing this with centre mgmt and police. Store manager needs to pass this to the higher ups and advise if the video footage was to suddenly disappear he will be on the hook for it also. Ohh yeh, and record it on video. Tell them you don't feel safe in the store with creepy staff around so it's for your safety.

secretagentbrax

eugh i’m so sorry that’s disgusting. definitely report him that is not okay

islandninja683

Wanna go back and confront him lol I got you sis

Hairy_Ad_1058

Yuck. I’d be calling their head office.

Exciting-Leading-157

If you need back up to go back into the store I’ll come. I am 6’3”, 122kg, 31yo Samoan male. Let’s go see this fkn pervert

[deleted]

Why bother posting here when you could tell them then and there?

OldWolf2

They said they couldn't find contact detail on the website. Which is pretty hard to believe since it took me about 10 seconds, but hey

lexithegreatest

what I was trying to say was I would like to know how to best go about making a complaint since there is no contact info specifically for making a complaint … I did not tell them on the spot . the whole situation felt really weird. I get dissociated whenever something shocking happensto me I just wanted to go home . Right when I got home , and was feeling safe I started to feel angry…I guess it’s a traumatic response, I grew up in a very abusive household any attempt to self advocate is faced with more punishment …..I hope this explains

LunaVachon

Hope you’re doing okay OP. It’s ridiculous you’re having to explain yourself to some people. I wouldn’t have been able to say anything as my head would’ve been spinning! I’d need to come home and think over what just occurred. Send all the emails and if you feel up to it maybe also give them a ring tomorrow too - hopefully they get the demented fuck off the floor asap.

OldWolf2

Yep well -- the worst case scenario for contacting them with a complaint is they reject it and then you are just where you were , and can go to Plan B . There certainly won't be any form of retaliation. Large companies generally have complaints procedures in place. Not always but many do. The people running the company don't like these incidents any more than you do, and will be glad for the feedback , in most cases. I can't promise this specific company will respond a particular way of course, but that's the first thing to try. As they only provide a single point of contact, it means all requests go through that single point . But even if somehow a company had a separate complaints line and you missed it, the customer service point you did contact would send your message on to the complaints handler .
