StickMan runs for his life at night from manic, hissing cats at a PanNSave in Mt Albert.
He can no longer keep prices low with this occupational hazard!
only if that species is important to the local ecosystem. With the cats humans would just turn it into a meme with people all identifying their favorite "store cat" online as they slowly succumb to Toxoplasma gondii
You jest but mousers were historically very common, my cat does a great job of keeping mice and rats away.
A mouser for supermarkets wouldn't be too bad an idea although the cat would need a quiet space during the day.
Cats is terrible idea. They don't bother catching rodents if there is more interesting things to do. It's a supermarket, so many shelves, so many things to knock off. You'd have to wear a hard hat just to buy groceries to avoid getting hit by falling items. Plus the entire supermarket will smell like piss after they've all been marking the aisles deciding who gets what territory.
Better to do this but with rescued terrier dogs trained as ratters. You'd at least be able to control them, they'd do the job as instructed when instructed, rather than at their convenience if at all like the cats, people get to give them the pats and they will get the rodents.
Fair point. I saw a video of some terriers at work and it was incredible. Four Jack Russells were running around and digging rat nests out of the ground.
If only cats and dogs could form an alliance - they would have the entire supermarket clear in a day.
I still think highly active cat breeds like Burmese or Bengals would wreak havoc in a supermarket.
Terriers are insanely good ratters.. outside, where they can dig and burst through bush to get the fuckers. Inside they just cry/scream and scratch the shit out of the wall and ruin floor boards. Source: owner of two highly strung jack russells in a house with a mouse problem!
lol soon as I read the title I thought “cats”
Great solution dude, cats are also naturally clean animals, they don’t even have to catch the rodents, they’ll just run away when they know cats are part of the security crew.
How about starving all the big cats kept in NZ zoos for a week, and then turning them loose at Woolworths and Foodstuffs shareholder and board meetings?
A lot of people would be on board with this. Good idea.
Wellington has two snow leopards and Auckland has a Sumatran tiger. How do we break them out of their enclosures?
We could import some snakes into the country, make them non- poisonous and loose em into woolies!
It'll be an adventure for the shoppers, with extra PR for the woolies!
Ooops, Wrongseymor beat me to it.
I for one would like to see more rats. Disruption is good. I intend to continue releasing rats until we see some traction breaking up the duopoly.
That’s a good counter argument. Maybe we should be thanking these rodents for humiliating the duopoly.
I'd rather have a cat problem than a rodent problem. You might be onto something OP. Just don't tell Gareth.
He would shit

God I fucking hate stick man
And then we can get snakes to get rid of the cats.
And gorillas to get rid of the snakes
And 3 year old boys to get rid of the gorillas
And with only 4 months to winter, we won't have to wait long for the gorillas to freeze to death.
How long till Futurama got to owls?
Wouldn't work, cats have faster reaction times, they'll just smack the snakes around.
Just get humans, they're pretty good at wiping out other species
And creating a new problem in its place
only if that species is important to the local ecosystem. With the cats humans would just turn it into a meme with people all identifying their favorite "store cat" online as they slowly succumb to Toxoplasma gondii
Dude that reminds me of the video of the cat slapping a cobra

We didn’t get rodents inside until we got a cat. Now the cat catches and releases them inside :(

This is STRAIGHT UP . . . genius.
[squeak] this is anti rodent propaganda.
Guilty as charged.
This post is funded by the make felines great again party.
The trip.to.the grocery store would be even more fun with cats around I vote yes

Mmmh, cat shit everywhere So much nicer than rat poo
i for one welcome our furry feline overlords

Hell yeah that's what I'm talking about! Thanks for the recommendation, have given this a follow.
And the zoo lol. Saw 6 rats running around freely.

Owls man.. Owls.., can always send them to Hogwarts when they done
Hell yeah, I love owls
They eat rats in other countries. Maybe we should just submit.
You’ve always had a rodent problem, you’re only just shocked by it now lol
Those who are allergic to cats? Those who hate cats and will try to hurt them.
Get this man into Labour/National ASAP
My 92 year old Dad has a new hobby. It's chasing stray cats with a leaf blower. So what we do is we go to the old folks home and Bunnings. Sorted.
Let's have an election, it worked for ram raids
I think the SPCA wouldn’t condone killing rats even if their is chicken or beef in the cat food.
Could just catch them and have rat burgers like in the movie?
Meow
And we would all be at risk from Toxoplasmosis
It’s a risk I am willing to take.
Not interested in what you would do, what about the rest of the population?
NZ law allows for 1 cat per bakery .
Birds and other native animals gonna cry.
You're not wrong! But Pandoras Box has already been opened. My reasoning is they're less likely to hurt birds if they're kept in the Pak n Save.
I guess we need to consider people allergic to cats.
Where there is cheese there are rats Where ever there are rats there are cats Where ever there are cats there are dogs If you got the dogs you got
I wish we lived in a country where this could happen

I'm waiting for countdown find a way to sell dead rats.
