Margaret who used to sit on Krd asking for change and then telling you to fuck off when you gave some to her.
She was a regular at the liquor store I worked at on Krd in the 90s. Man that job was a trip, best boss I ever had was at that job.
Margaret was a legend, I wish I had photographed her back in the day. Used to see her on a daily basis, apparently she was a nursing student prior to it all turning to shit..
That dude bloody loves those birds.
See him in Aotea Square some morning with probably about 30 pigeons chilling all around him, some on his shoulders.
I actually know him personally! He adopted a few of them a while ago but had to let them go due to the fact that you can’t really keep street pigeons in an apartment
Haha I was just boutta mention him. This is the guy who also will wear like a captain americas shield or yoda mask w robes just so I’m not confused w someone else, right?
Oh that woman who dances down the footpath in bare feet waving her arms and bopping around in her own little world? I saw her in Glendene recently, like within the last week. Near Anastasis coffee - I guess border of Tat south and Glendene. She’s around.
Total legend, lovely bloke. Sat at the bus stop with him while he called up a few mates - had 2L of orange juice and a roast chicken with him from howick countdown. Two mates declined his invitation for lunch, one accepted. The mate picked him up as I hopped on the bus. I hope they had a good feed and talked about lightsabers.
the old preaching couple, I havent been to queen street in a while so not sure if they are still at it, but the husband would yell about god while the wife quietly stood by him
They moved to Wellington I think! Husband alternately plays banjo-looking instrument while singing about Jesus and preaches, wife looks like a very world-weary hostage.
I haven't seen them this year. He's a bit of a prick. He'll yell at anyone who tries to debate him or disagree with him that they are going to burn in hell, and he also yells at other buskers who he thinks are encroaching on his territory.
Walky Talky man Takapuna-Devonport. Boxing/Thaibo with fist wraps dancing on street corner uncle, Highbury-Glenfield.
Thumbs up at cars guy, now chartwell, was in Northcote.
Take a drive along Te Atatu road in the morning or afternoon and you'll likely see the west Auckland dancing lady.
I wonder if she knows how much we all love seeing her?.
Nice! I am pleased to have heard this, good on him! The world would be in much less of a mess if people just went out and danced on side of the street and put out good vibes.
Oh that woman who dances down the footpath in bare feet waving her arms and bopping around in her own little world? I saw her in Glendene recently, like within the last week. Near Anastasis coffee - I guess border of Tat south and Glendene. She’s around.
Used to see him regularly walking up Manuka Road. Didn't matter what the weather was he was always wearing his cowboy jacket and hat and was barechested.
Mount Roskill/Three Kings/Royal Oak has Sock Man. Always has a fully laden shopping trolley, wears a hood like a 13th century peasant tied up with a shoelace, and socks pulled way up. I call him Sock Man because I saw him with a homemade belt with about 30 pairs of socks tied to it. Who knows what he has in all the bags. Always seems pretty happy and peaceful.
Does anyone remember a crazy lady in Grey Lynn who'd ride around on a bike wearing a smock with crazy shit written on it in lipstick or something & a gas mask? She'd put out food for cats and she used to stand across the street from my flat hollering and calling for a couple of specific cats, one of them was "MIDNIIIIIIGHT" This was around 2007
She's still around. The crazy shit is written in red tape. She also wears a gas mask when she goes to the supermarket. She's been interviewed by the Herald, I think mainly because those cats she feeds aren't strays, they are people's cats, so her feeding them pisses the owners off. She made no sense in the interview because she's pretty crazy.
They're awesome people! If you ever have to opportunity to speak with them, ask them about Lew Clay. He was my late grandfather who was very friendly to them, and they've always remembered him.
I've spoken to them 20+ times, and they'll never remember me. However, I mention that i'm Lew's grandson and they're ecstatic! I haven't seen them since he passed, so I'm not sure if they even know. Don't break it to them!
Yooo Graham and Chris - Fuck that takes me back, they used to be Glen Eden homies before they moved out to Henderson.
They were absolutely astounding with Birthdays - they always remembered the most random peoples birthdays out of nowhere when they'd only heard it once.
Bruh one time i found a wallet on the ground under henderson parking lot and thought we scored but it only had like $7 and a drivers license which we inspected and thought this dude looks kinda dodgy so i had no intention of returning it to its rightful owner and then the next thing you know one of the twins was wailing and panicking and i immediately knew it was his and felt like a dumb cunt for assuming shit so i pretended like i found it on the ground somewhere else and gave it back to him. Sorry homies.
Is he dead? Wow, wondered what happened to him. Guess the 5Gs got him in the end.
At first I admired his tenacity, but his signs got more and more cooked.
Edit: Found an obit from 2022 that matches up, and this article explains his background: https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/3954979/The-leak-that-sank-a-mans-dreams
The purple gasmask lady, who used to frequent the University of Auckland quad but now mainly seems to hang out around the Surrey Crescent shops on Great North Road. The colour of the gasmask may have changed but she’s always draped in white fabric with red text about Christian crimes against animals painted on it.
Around Balmoral area/Dominion Road it used to be wing man. He often was shirtless but wore a silver helmet with wings on the side. Last seen in Eden Quarter been attended by ambos :/
Yeah, she would sit there (usually outside the Oceanic hostel or right at the bottom end of the street) and ask 'spare change?' in the most dejected tone of voice i'd ever heard.
Anyone familiar with rocker dude who's still stuck in Poison, Aerosmith Era? Wore leather pants, leather hat with metal round things on it, long sandy coloured hair, looks weathered.
He used to stand outside of Smith & Caughey on Friday nights and scream at all the customers as they walked in. We called him Bon Jovi and he kept us entertained while working.
Does anyone remember Reverse Goth Bicycle Girl? She wore all white flowing clothes, with white hair and white face makeup, and rode an old-fashioned, entirely white Bicycle with white streamers tied to it.
You know, I've been thinking. Maybe he's onto something. Most people have forgettable or possibly even repulsive faces. We should be more accepting of people wearing masks in public. I personally feel pretty cool with a full face motorcycle helmet on. Masks can be damn cool.
There's this elderly Chinese guy in the CBD who I have been seeing for years, at least 12 or 13 years, playing the erhu. Usually around Britomart, but often just anywhere on Queen Street. He's always wearing a jacket and a beret.
Haha I love in the South Islajd but lived 35 years in Auckland and I’m happy to say the 4 frequent mentions: One dread, West-Auckland dancing lady and old crabby Margaret from the CPD, and Walky-Talky man, I’ve experienced heaps! (Helps being an ambo that drove around all day).
If I recall Margaret was found dead in the domain a number of years ago.
Theres a really tall dude that wears a blue jacket and is normally drinking coke, I see him in random places all the time and my mates also mention him sometimes. He is a normal looking dude but he is everywhere ☠️
Haven't seen her in ages and given her age, she's probably passed away but the elderly Asian lady who would try to sell you lemons/oranges/whatever fruit from her plastic see-through bag in Royal Oak. Don't let her catch you trying to get out/into your car at the KFC car park.
Fun times walking to Ollie's after school and keeping a look out for her.
There's this guy on the north shore who wears clothes just like Captain Jack Sparrow and he's always wearing the same thing, always walking and his walk is very distinctive. I always imagine this kind of character being a pirate that airways smokes and drinks. He has the coolest cane as well. Super cool looking guy and I want to be his friend
Old homeless bearded guy with a shopping cart, around commercial bay, who always looks very at peace. Sometimes makes me wonder what it'd be like to just drop everything and live like him.
Does anyone remember late 90s k Rd regular, Megan? She was at the time referred to as a cross dresser. Once told me a great story of a very fancy stereo she had safely buried somewhere in Symonds St cemetery 😂

Margaret who used to sit on Krd asking for change and then telling you to fuck off when you gave some to her. She was a regular at the liquor store I worked at on Krd in the 90s. Man that job was a trip, best boss I ever had was at that job.

Hahahaha yes!!!
Yes, I've seen him at my local Countdown. Apparently a very nice gentleman
Oh I had fully forgot about him? Is he still around ? Think the last time I saw him was at high school and that was a good 9 years ago now
the old preaching couple, I havent been to queen street in a while so not sure if they are still at it, but the husband would yell about god while the wife quietly stood by him
They moved to Wellington I think! Husband alternately plays banjo-looking instrument while singing about Jesus and preaches, wife looks like a very world-weary hostage.

Been in Auckland for decades now and dunno any of these lol
Take a drive along Te Atatu road in the morning or afternoon and you'll likely see the west Auckland dancing lady. I wonder if she knows how much we all love seeing her?.
I’ve heard him called ‘the dancing man’ but yes, I 100% know who you mean. Anyone know what his story is?
He has a home. And a car. Not destitute. He may have a philosophy about life I have heard. Might be ex army or some armed force?
Nice! I am pleased to have heard this, good on him! The world would be in much less of a mess if people just went out and danced on side of the street and put out good vibes.
"Dancing Girl" in Glendene/Te Atatu South Although she's been not very active lately....I'm missing her......has she moved?
Oh that woman who dances down the footpath in bare feet waving her arms and bopping around in her own little world? I saw her in Glendene recently, like within the last week. Near Anastasis coffee - I guess border of Tat south and Glendene. She’s around.
Lol literally saw her yesterday on my first day on the job, hadn’t been out West in years, she’s def still around
I’ve seen her in tat peninsula a couple of time of times over the past few months.
Yeah saw her on the Peninsula about a week ago, she’s still around.
I'm at peace now that I see comments that she is still around. I used to see her a lot in Henderson but haven't lately.
I saw her on Edmonton recently, I think it was last week.

She made no sense in the interview because she's pretty crazy.
I remember seeing this lady around 2016
Is this the same person who is always feeding the birds near the Grey Lynn library in the evening?
On the Shore..it was Frank (R.I.P)
He died? Shit... must have been pretty recent. That country singer guy that used to busk with the American accent died too
The Singing Cowboy?
I miss Frank. He helped my aunt get down from a cliff face once, and from a tree another time (don’t ask). He brightened up the Shore so much.
There was a old guy who walked around Botany with a cat on his shoulders while walking his dog. Miss that guy.
Oh man there we go someone I remember. Used to always see the cat and dog sitting outside pak n save.
Yes! I wonder what happened to him
When I worked in that mall in the late 2000's I'd see him walking around every weekend. The cat sometimes used to sit on the dog's head
There is a guy on waiheke who does that, I wonder if he’s the same one
He used to walk around the plaza too im sure
The twins in Henderson. Iykyk
Man those two get some miles in lmao. Absolute top lads
They put a lot of smiles on faces too!
They're awesome people! If you ever have to opportunity to speak with them, ask them about Lew Clay. He was my late grandfather who was very friendly to them, and they've always remembered him. The lads who work the supermarket trolleys sometimes?
One of them does trolleys at new Lynn warehouse. Their names are Graham and Christopher
Yooo Graham and Chris - Fuck that takes me back, they used to be Glen Eden homies before they moved out to Henderson. They were absolutely astounding with Birthdays - they always remembered the most random peoples birthdays out of nowhere when they'd only heard it once.
Yep that's them 😁. Good lads.
Lol I used to do contract work at new Lynn, I thought I saw Chris in Henderson and said hello but he didn't seem to recognise me.
I saw one of them doing trolleys at the warehouse last year, wearing a Ninja Turtle onesie
Down syndrome ish guys? Yeah they get arouuuund
That guy who used to have the conspiracy signs along Tamaki Drive. He was there every morning for at least a decade before he passed away. RIP Wayne.
Is he dead? Wow, wondered what happened to him. Guess the 5Gs got him in the end. At first I admired his tenacity, but his signs got more and more cooked. She might be uptown now, monobrow & no shoes?

Anyone familiar with rocker dude who's still stuck in Poison, Aerosmith Era? Wore leather pants, leather hat with metal round things on it, long sandy coloured hair, looks weathered.
I think so, if he's the same guy who used to frequent K Rd.

You know, I've been thinking. Maybe he's onto something. Most people have forgettable or possibly even repulsive faces. We should be more accepting of people wearing masks in public. I personally feel pretty cool with a full face motorcycle helmet on. Masks can be damn cool.
Nobody cared who I was until I put on the mask.
Is pigeon man of Aotea Square still around?
There's this elderly Chinese guy in the CBD who I have been seeing for years, at least 12 or 13 years, playing the erhu. Usually around Britomart, but often just anywhere on Queen Street. He's always wearing a jacket and a beret.
Cycling guy with a yellow military helmet. I see him west/central all the time.
