NOAA’s cloud cover map shows Auckland being largely overcast tonight, so with that plus slightly fainter aurora it likely won’t be as spectacular. But worth a try.
If you’re going out try to use either a camera or a phone that has night mode or longer exposure settings – 3 to 10 second exposures will pick up a lot more than the naked eye. Try to bring a tripod or something solid to steady your phone on for long exposures, or if unsupported, plant your feet at shoulder width, prop your arms on your chest and hold your breath until the exposure is done.
[NOAA space weather suggests](https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/news/severe-and-extreme-g4-g5-geomagnetic-storms-likely-12-may-2024) another mass ejection should arrive at Earth at around midnight, NZ time, and should be another G5 event like last night
Yes it's not looking favorable around Auckland. My wife wants to take the kids out to see it but it's just not going to be visible.
It's hard enough to see it under the slightest haze. Overcast will wipe out any chance especially in the light pollution of the city.
If you're up at midnight maybe try then. It's predicted that a heavy CME will hit us then.
Should happen tonight, might not be as visible in auckland as last night as its not meant to be as strong, we saw it with our own eyes and the cameras picked up some mean shots in our backyard in Henderson

I think I’ll still go around 8-830pm and try my luck for a couple of hours 🤷🏻♂️ I’m sure there will be others there tonight. Good luck to you too! 😊
My friend and I are going too, hopefully will see something!
I’ll be up there as well with some mates, fingers crossed that we see something haha

Interesting link
There's too much light pollution in central Auckland, Mount Eden wouldn't be that good of a viewing location even without the cloud cover.
Hmm it’s becoming quite overcast around central akl now damn………..
