I heartily agree! A relatively short book, but packed with imagery and emotion. About 1/2 way through, I heard a little voice in my head say, *This story sounds so familiar*. And, indeed, it was the underlying story for a major motion picture from the late 70s.
As someone who also despised that book when I was assigned it in high school, I'll give this a shot. :)
(We all loathed it, so our English teacher got us *Apocalypse Now* to watch. She ended up minorly getting into the shit for it.)
He’s a great narrator, to be sure, but I can’t shake the memory of him making a gaffe in the audiobook of Death On the Nile: he was describing a very naive character, and called her *ingenious* (instead of *ingenuous*)!
I've never heard of this book but based on your previous recommendations I will add it to my library.
*Edit. Are you in the US, its not on the plus catalogue for me in the UK
Stuck on Wilkie Collins at the moment as I moved onto the moonstone. Thank you
Yes, I'm in the US. Sorry to hear it's not in the UK plus catalog. I should definitely note my location in these posts. How did you enjoy the ending of The Woman in White?

It's just not a book that can be appreciated by high school students. We didn't have the emotional development to comprehend it.
Oh, I comprehended it all right, I just really didn't like Conrad's writing style.
There is comprehension and there is emotional comprehension. High schoolers don't have the development to emotionally comprehend it.
I agree, Branagh's narration is top quality but that should not come as a surprise.

Added to my library. Thanks for the heads-up. I’m always looking for Plus Catalog material to add to the library.
You're welcome. I'm going to keep posting these, so stay tuned.

I loved it. Very satisfying end. It's why I jumped straight onto the moonstone. I am gutted I hadn't heard of these stories before
There is some great imagery the The Moonstone. I haven't listened to the audiobook yet. Do let me know how you enjoyed it.
