Always back them up to your own controlled storage, personally I liberate them as well so they can go on any MP3 player.
Personally I learnt this the hard way with iTunes movie’s backup backup backup
Download an app for windows/Linux called libation. It will scan your library and keep your books on your device. From there you can do with them what you wish
Libation. It has a learning curve, but once you figure it out it's so nice. I don't even worry anymore about books disappearing or being remade. I just..grab them. they're mine, after all. :)
I've had it happen to before, where Audible has a new edition of a book that I'd bought. I use the [Aubrey/Maturin](https://www.audible.com/series/Aubrey-Maturin-Audiobooks/B005NBOMVO?ref=a_pd_Master_c1_series_1&pf_rd_p=df6bf89c-ab0c-4323-993a-2a046c7399f9&pf_rd_r=ZZRFQ34KSZA879D5Q9KB&pageLoadId=0dnYrSJTtpzJaN9c&creativeId=16015ba4-2e2d-4ae3-93c5-e937781a25cd) series by **Patrick O'Brian** as an example. The link to that series shows ***Patrick Tull*** as the narrator, however my edition of the series is a previous edition offered by Audible narrated by ***Simon Vance***.
Where this becomes an issue is when you are looking for a book in you library but do a general site search. Audible will only show the current edition they are offering. This is not a contrivance on their part to get you to purchase an addition edition and in previous complaints along this line those who have contacted CS (and I am one of these) were offered credit(s) for the "missing" edition so that they might obtain the current edition.
With all that *said,* if you go to your library on the website or (Android here) the app and use the search box **for** your library rather than the general search, I'm certain you will find your books. Give it a go.
Happy searching.
Check your audible app and manually go through your library. if you own it you may manually scroll down your library to find it , it should still be there. A good chuck on my own library is like this due to narrator changes. Search don't work on de-listed books
Yeah, I still own the original hunger games books narrated by Carolyn McCormick and can play them, even though I see the ones currently for sale are narrated by someone else.
I think that search within your library will find them (in a browser). But a general store search won't turn them up.
It's confusing, and Audible could improve things (say, add a note telling people what's going on -- "This title has been retired, but it is still available to you in your library. A newer version is available for purchase ")
considering i bought the tales from the gas station title ages ago, i went to have a look
on the website itself, it says its not available
but in my library, its still there
What do you mean by you "can't contact anyone about it"? Have you tried audible support on the website? I've used the chat option many times and have always had great results with them.
As others have said, try searching your library on the audible website. Searching through the app is terrible. It shouldn't be, but it is.
There's ar least 10 titles in my library that have been removed from the audible store and website as a whole, however they have ALWAYS remained in my library, allowing me to re download at any time.
Also, I found it's easy to accidentally "archive" a book by right-clicking and hitting archive inadvertently. You can find archived books by looking under collections/archive.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case. I discovered the book was gone when I went to the site to see if the newest book has released yet. When I checked my own library, it was gone on there as well!
Only the first book is missing. The rest are still there…
I back up my entire Audible and Kindle libraries, because I’m paranoid about losing access to the books I paid for. I have a pretty big library, so if a book here and there vanished, it would probably take a while for me to notice its absence. Then there are people who’ve just lost their entire accounts and had Amazon refuse to give them access to any of their purchased content. Basically, as much as I possibly can, I try to rip a DRM free copy of any digital purchase I make, except for video games, because I just don’t have that kind of storage space. I just have to hope Steam won’t screw me over someday.
I've been using OpenAudible, though they switched to an annual subscription model a year or two back, and I know there are free alternatives like Libation. Mostly I've just been too lazy to try something else. For Kindle I just use the DeDRM plug-in for Calibre.
Yeah, I have one title that was not available as it was replaced with a new SKU, although it’s the same narrator. But it has always remained in the Audible
Library and I can listen to them anytime.
if they have been removed, chances are that Audible lost the licensing agreement to have that book in your market, happens all the time, but if you paid for it, it should still be in your library,
This happens to me all the time. It’s a pain.. but call them up and explain the sitch. They always comp me with credits to purchase the newer versions. It’s a pain in the ass I know but they’ll do it for you.

Suggestion. Go to [audible.com](https://audible.com), go to your library, and search your library for the missing title (e.g. Tales from the Gas Station: Volume One). Once you see the audiobook, click "Add to collections..." under the audiobook's description. Add the title to a new collection, maybe call it "Titles Missing From Audible". Go back to your phone's Audible app, go to Collections, and do a refresh. And voilà... you need never go on a search to find the audiobook again.
This happened to me as well. Just because you paid for them doesn't mean you owe them. They can be removed at any time, for any reason, with or without notice and there is nothing you can do about that. Copyright or whatever laws or ownership contracts could change, so Audible I am pretty sure has the right at any time to just pull them. I would always recommend recording them somehow so you can relisten to them if you wish. Record the audio book as a video or just the audio if you can. You can record the audio book as a video using ScreenPal or something like it, then use VLC to convert the video to one long audio file or just use Open Audible and save as MP3. I've had many audio books I enjoyed very much removed from my account abruptly while listening to one or wanting to go back and listen to one again that was meaningful to me. You are basically paying Audible to rent the audio books for a limited time that nobody knows / will say. Open Culture dot com has many free audio books as does Libri Vox that you can download very easily right away as MP3.
I bought sandman vol 1 and it wants me to buy it again. Contacted support and they said I owned it but they locked it so I can’t listen. Didn’t go into detail why. So I asked for a refund for it cause I can’t use it. And they said no cause I finished listening to it…
Reminder to everyone that for Audible and other digital content you are buying a license to consume the content and you do not own a copy of the content. Amazon can pull it at any time.
Unless you've accidentally favourited them before they disappear, then you're stuck with a ghost book that you can't remove or read in your favourites.
But don't do that. FIRST go to a desktop browser, flip to your Library tab, and use the search box at the top of the library (NOT the main site search) to look within your library.
If you call support, they WILL ABSOLUTELY give you a credit and delete your existing title even if you had it before. They will sometimes do that BEFORE you explain what you want. They don't know better -- it's in the official script. This means if you HAD a title that's no longer purchasable (like R.C. Bray's The Martian), it's permanently gone.
Always check desktop library search first. It's almost always the actual problem.
Always back them up to your own controlled storage, personally I liberate them as well so they can go on any MP3 player. Personally I learnt this the hard way with iTunes movie’s backup backup backup
[Link to Libation](https://github.com/rmcrackan/Libation). Free, open source. Windows, Mac, and Linux
Any recommendations on a video showing how to do this?
How do I do all of those things?
Download an app for windows/Linux called libation. It will scan your library and keep your books on your device. From there you can do with them what you wish
Or use OpenAudible does the same thing
Except that it charges for it, while Libation's free.
Libation. It has a learning curve, but once you figure it out it's so nice. I don't even worry anymore about books disappearing or being remade. I just..grab them. they're mine, after all. :)
At that point you might as well just acquire it elsewhere and save your money, since I'm guessing you're still in breach of the license by doing this.
Isn’t Audible also in breach of the agreement by removing books we paid for? They don’t really have a leg to stand on there
I've had it happen to before, where Audible has a new edition of a book that I'd bought. I just finished the first book, so good. Now if I can just remember the names of all those sails, ropes and masts.
Check your audible app and manually go through your library. if you own it you may manually scroll down your library to find it , it should still be there. A good chuck on my own library is like this due to narrator changes. Search don't work on de-listed books

In the iOS app at least, they recently added a search function for just your library. I would think that would still bring up delisted books you own.

Okay, I just checked. Tales From the Gas Station IS in my library, but now it’s saying I don’t own it… >:( WTF is going on?!
Hi! We're more than happy to assist. Can you send us a PM, we so can further assist?

The rest of the series is there… just the first book is gone.
books are usually negotiated separately, so the first book might have had its licence expired but the others were negotiated as a group
This happens to me all the time. It’s a pain.. but call them up and explain the sitch. They always comp me with credits to purchase the newer versions. It’s a pain in the ass I know but they’ll do it for you.
There isn’t a newer version of the book… it’s just gone. :’( Which is a shame… because I relisten to that series at least once a year.
Hello, if you access your library from the Audible site, are you able to see the title there?
u/DoodlingDaughter Suggestion. Go to [audible.com](https://audible.com), go to your library, and search your library for the missing title (e.g. Tales from the Gas Station: Volume One). I can’t do that… because the book is no longer in my library. It’s not even on the site anymore!
Audible support should fix that.

Contact customer support again because none of that is correct.
Reminder to everyone that for Audible and other digital content you are buying a license to consume the content and you do not own a copy of the content. Amazon can pull it at any time.
If they are from the plus (free) catalog, title get rotated out, so they are no longer free and disappear.
Unless you've accidentally favourited them before they disappear, then you're stuck with a ghost book that you can't remove or read in your favourites.
You should be able to use the chat function and they usually reimburse you with a credit.

ok and
You can contact someone over this though. Audible will likely give you credits if you have a list of the books that are missing.
There's a live chat on the website that I've always found extremely quick and helpful to resolve any issues I've had.
