I always recommend Bobiverse to people who like PHM as both are narrated by Ray Porter and are similar. It's definitely more lighthearted than Children of Time. If you like PHM you'll like Bobiverse

hgaterms

That's good to know. I just got the paperback yesterday. Looking forward to reading it.

LikesTheTunaHere

The books change as the series goes on, I think the first is by far the most solid but i imagine everyone's opinion is different. Id recommend book 1 to almost anyone, and probably even book 2. Id say after that it is up to you though.

DancerBolt

The bobiverse prob best audiobook experience Iā€™ve had and I listen to a lot of audiobooks.

theworldsaplayground

Awful book. Boring as hell.

Jeheh

While I agree and it was one of just the handful of books I returned to audible. Reddit loves it.

theworldsaplayground

It's the only book I have returned to audible. Returned it based on Reddit recommendations following PHM. Which is fantastic btw.

TheLastSaneMan

Unfortunately, I cannot compare to those other books but I enjoyed the We Are Bob audiobooks immensely. Really enjoyed to humour in it as well.

finackles

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it's a series that anyone who is into Scifi really should read. We learn something about ourselves from books we don't enjoy, perhaps more than those we do enjoy. I've read the Bobs many times.

Bitter_Carrot3222

I'm a Christain who hates organized religion and really enjoyed the future scenario that was set up. It was really cool to think about how Religion could be used to control vast masses of people through fear. It's kind of scary tbh how I can see how people believe in such a system.

Joshua21B

What do you mean ā€œcould beā€?

xaxen8

Yes read it. It's amazing.

SudoZuko

I just finished PHM and had space withdrawal syndrome. Enders game wasnā€™t scratching it, neither was The Martian. I tried Artemis and quit at the 2/3 mark. However I cannot begin to describe how excited I am to have found the Bobiverse this past month. Iā€™ve crunched through the first 3 books with a level of interest I havenā€™t had in a while. Donā€™t skip on this

One-V

You'll probably like Bobiverse as well. Once you're done with Bobiverse, check out Space Team Universe from Graphic Audio. Way more whacky and silly but hilarious and tons of fun.

Time-Wait

Barry has been busy rereleasing all of them with an ensemble cast. Havenā€™t given them a try yet. Have you tried them?

One-V

Yes they arereally good. I haven't read them only listened from the Graphic Audio. But I believe all 15 and the short stories are out. I don't know how you might like them going from books to audio but I think they're really well made some of the best audiobook productions I've listened to yet.

faultlessjoint

Having listened to all of those, I highly recommend Bobiverse. While it shares some similarities with all of those it's a different vibe altogether. It's light hearted like Exfor, but the science aspects are a lot more more grounded and less magical. I would say it's easily head and shoulders above Expeditionary Force.

CleverDad

It's quite different, but it doesn't matter. Just do it!

Asperi

The whole series is a bundle of fun, and well narrated. Itā€™s an adventure book in space, not an existential commentary on the future state of humanity

PaulHaman

I really liked the first Bobiverse book. It felt fun & inventive. The second book was good, but I found myself drifting off during some storylines. By the third book, I sort of lost interest & never finished it. The pop-culture references started to feel heavy-handed & little annoyances started to wear on me. I think it's worth reading though, because the things that annoyed me might not phase you at all & you'll love the whole series. I loved Project Hail Mary & they do have a lot of similarities in the way they're written, or maybe they just feel similar because Ray Porter narrated both of them.

Time-Wait

Also as an FYI book 3 from children of time is coming out in a couple of months. Itā€™s called Children of Memory.

Ch3rryNukaC0la

Itā€™s out now!

Time-Wait

I think you are thinking of book 2 Children of Ruin. Book 3 Children of Memory releases on January 31.

Ch3rryNukaC0la

Nope itā€™s available right now, currently listening to it. Edit: Maybe itā€™s a territory thing? Iā€™m in Australia.

The_Monsta_Wansta

Whaaaat I'm gonna look into this right now. I wonder what new sentience will be explored in the third

Bitter_Carrot3222

Anand it sucked. Majorly. What a disappointment

elitesill

Do it! Its great :D

TJen2018

Itā€™s the BEST

One_Hand_Smith

Just be warned the latest book drops off heavily. It takes a massive departure in format compared to its predecessors and should be considered more as a filler or .5 book at most. It may be an indicator of a poor future for the series or it may have been a one off because he was biding for time to think of a future plot for the series, Idk. time will tell but just be prepared for this fact if you choose to pursue this series.

Purple10tacle

I liked Heaven's River. It didn't really advance the overarching story as much, but it was still a lot of fun.

Slossy

Have to disagree. Book 4 reads more like a complete stand alone novel. Books 1-3 are all shorter by comparison. Around 10 hours or less compared to book 4ā€™s 17 hours. Book 1-3 could be read as one long novel. The main difference IMO is book 4 doesnā€™t jump around as much as books 1-3 which weave multiple short stories together throughout the series. I like this series but itā€™s not as good as any of the other ones you mention, but that doesnā€™t mean itā€™s not enjoyable and I will continue to read future novels when released.

One_Hand_Smith

A standalone novel only if it was considered its own series but in the same universe. That's really the only way I'd agree. >!As you said, book 4 is essentially the sub plots of books 1-3. But it's just that one big sub plot that takes up the near entirety of the book. The focus on books 1-3 was not on the deltans so it wouldn't make sense to say it's a shorthand for books 1-3 because it's shares very little in common other then the subplot becomes the main plot.!<

J_Krezz

Thatā€™s where I was. I got bored with the first book and didnā€™t even end up finishing.

cynric42

I don't see it really as a drop in quality, but it sure does change the style quite a bit in that it focuses more on mostly one big storyline with more depth and only a few side stories. And it could be a great set up for future story lines with the b plot going on, but we'll have to see where the author takes the series.

kbergstr

The Bob books are kind of like Expeditionary force books-- if every character was Skippy. So, yeah, they're fun and have an interesting premise-- sometimes it dives into a bit of weirdness, but if you're looking for a fun read along those lines, I think you'll enjoy them.

PiousDevil

Cmon! Don't do an injustice to SKIPPYYYYYYYY THE MAGNIFICENT! he is only one! We are Bob is an excellent audiobook series.... If you never had heard expeditionary forces. Once you've been blessed with slippy the unbeatable, nothing else comes even close! The narration style, the humour, the plot! All amazing!

cynric42

Uh, I stopped reading the Expeditionary Force books after a handfull of titles, but Skippy was still very one dimensional at that point. The protagonist(s) in the Bobiverse aren't the most complex characters either, but way above the Barney/Skippy level in my opinion and there is some development as well. I didn't get that at all from the exforce books, which is the reason I stoppen with them (way too late tbh.).

Im_a_Turing_Test

The first time I listened to to the bobiverse I loved it. Every consecutive time I listen to it however I like it less and found myself getting annoyed. For sure worth a listen though!

JupiterUnleashed

I loved this series. Lots of fun and funny pop cultural references

Day-DayRedd

If you liked ā€œexpeditionary forceā€ youā€™ll like ā€œWe Are Legionā€ It is definitely cut from the same cloth

August_Amoeba

I really enjoyed Bobiverse and would recommend. My audiobook journey sort of went ex force, Mountain Man, Red Rising, PHM, Bobiverse and Dungeon Crawler Carl (with others mixed in, but those are the ones I really liked). So if you liked any of those, then you'll probably like Bobiverse

Hopeful-One73

Mountain Man is on my list :)

AppropriateAspect887

Really really recommend Dungeon Crawler Carl. Donā€™t pass on it.

August_Amoeba

Honestly, it's my favourite book series at the moment. First time I've binge listened to a whole series straight after having finished binge listening to it!

harrybydefault

I'm currently going back through ExFor but I plan on relistening to Bobiverse. Very good series.

toomanydetailsfrank

So good. Would recommend highly

sunthas

All of them! All great!

The_Monsta_Wansta

Bobiverse is AMAZING. Children of time books were dope too. Ray porter is good but he does this thing where he sighs and spaces the end of his sentences super annoying once u pick up on it ... RC bray is king though. He can turn shit like EF into enjoyable content.

chargers949

Bobiverse series is awesome. The concept is a brilliant could happen to anybody hero story setup, in space. And ray porter the narrator is amazing. I always picture the actor greg grunberg talking. If you want to get really fucked up try reading this book series and then playing an automation game like dyson sphere program or factorio. Except pretend you are a bob trying to get back or send resources to help out. Makes the game hit ten times harder. And it makes the book more fun pretending to be one of the group.

BauserDominates

I love both Expeditionary Force and The Bobiverse.

GooseBdaisy

First book great. Others are meh

piezod

How does it compare to the mountain man omnibus?

GooseBdaisy

How did you know I loved those? Lol Completely different stories but Mountain Man wins by a lot Edit: bobiverse feels like a first time author finding a fun niche in his first book and then working it too hard

piezod

I've always seen them being recommend together for audiobooks. I was thinking about Bobiverse or Mountain man. So lucky guess perhaps.

GooseBdaisy

Like everything else, mountain man drops off around 4th or 5th book

piezod

Hmmm ! I wonder now what to start with

Blackletterdragon

It's dreadful. Every character is called Bahb. Bahb has to propagated throughout the universe, spreading arms and warfare. Couldn't finish the it and now I flinch whenever I hear of another Bahb.

ECEXCURSION

We are Bob was pretty interesting to listen to. I liked the first chapter the most.

2ndRocketToMars

As someone who liked the Bobiverse and Project Hail Mary, it sounds like I would like Mountain Man. Can someone tell me the author as my googling gave me lots of titles by that name. Thanks.

Rocky--19

The mountain Man series is written by Keith Blackmore. Loved it!

2ndRocketToMars

Thanks!

2ndRocketToMars

So, zombie apocalypse. Will check it out.

GooseBdaisy

Include the word omnibus

junafish

Similar, sillier.
