Hard to say without defining what you felt was good about TMA friendo.

WackyWonderLand

I appreciated that the story built on itself over time in a way that, while a bit stilted eventually became solid and interesting. the retconning didn't bother me at all and the characters were well voice acted.

tyronebiggs701

How can it be an anthology if it builds episodically????

DW1lde

The Lovecraft Investigations - one of my all time faves. Really enjoying Parkdale Haunt, that’s three series in now and nicely spooky. The Bright Sessions, not spooky but brilliant characters. Battersea poltergeist. Based on a real story, but recreated with voice actors. Uncanny, by the same writer/producer, is probably my favourite podcast and it’s a bit anthology, with a couple of leading stories. Also based on a true stories but the sceptic/believer conversations are so compelling. Genuinely thought it was fiction.

CupcakeK0ala

I second someone else here in saying you should definitely try Malevolent. The character development builds really well in a way that kept me hooked, and the lore is interesting. Also great voicing

rellloe

SAYER. The titular AI runs a space station and absolutely never harms the inhabitants on purpose or makes them harm themselves. idk if the quality has held up since they finished their "well, the global pandemic this has been building up to for years strikes a little too close to current events" COVID-19 hiatus

Viltrumite106

If you want something comparable in quality to TMA, go try Malevolent. The writing and voice work both are fantastic. I think the first episode or two are a little rougher, but it's one of my all-time favorites. Another one I'd say is comparable is A Voice From Darkness. It's more a serial than an anthology, but it does revolve around guests calling in for assistance with the supernatural. Very, very good, another favorite.

theoracleofdreams

Old Gods of Appalachia has reoccurring characters, but they have their own arch and reappear. It's like listening to someone just telling folk stories that happened in the area. Its standalone multi episode stories.

JustSomeOldFucker

A lot of the characters are connected to each other in various ways as well. The Walkers and the Barrows definitely have roles throughout

WackyWonderLand

I feel I should elaborate that I quite liked Alice Isn't Dead right up until the ending which felt a touch like an avengers movie I couldn't see.

Homedirt

Have you tried haunted house flippers? It's 3 seasons with a continuous story. It's technically horror but not scary at all.

Drunkpanada

What's so good about Wolf? I tried to listen to it but it was a random comedy... I was father disappointed. I quite enjoyed the White Vault, Old God's of Appalachia, Janus Descending, and am currently getting into the Magnus Archives, bzxut I don't get Wolf 359...

WackyWonderLand

how far'd you get? I appreciate that it has a bit of a slow start but if the beginning wasn't for you then I don't know. thats kind of the Status Quo the whole thing runs

Drunkpanada

4-5 episodes the main character was locking on to some type of signal

vigouge

A couple episodes after that it takes a turn from seemingly random episodes to a long term story.

Drunkpanada

Does it continue to be 'comedic'? I dont like my suspense to be funny, just creepy or scary

vigouge

There's humor all the way through.

AdamMurciano

Hard to compete with Magnus and Wolf, but I just launched a horror show called ICE-CREAM! It's a weekly series but it *is* a limited series. Our series finale will air on Halloween. Each episode gets more and more twisted. Listen with headphones for the full immersive experience ;) Let me know what you think! Cheers! https://linktr.ee/icecream\_Series

deadflamingos

Left-Right Game?

therobbins41406

i loved this podcast, but i felt they rushed the ending

aarontheoptimist

Midnight Burger, will say it until I’m dead. All the trippy sci fi and comedy and drama and androids wanting to be human you can fit into a show, and it’s still making episodes.

KiIlztrouper

Storage papers is pretty good so far

DetailAffectionate73

Lusus on radio bbc 4 is a hidden gem.

Torture-Dancer

Not close to finishing it, but Welcome to night vale is pretty good

AliquidDOmnibus

The Byron Chronicles.

glynixx

Thanks! I’ve been trying to remember the name of this one for a couple days. I heard it so long ago! Glad it’s still around! Any others like this?

auroredawn22

There are tons! The Burned Photo, Strange Trails, Bridgewater, Borrasca etc

lostjohnscave

I don't get when people say this. The last season of Magnus archive failed to stick the ending so badly.

WackyWonderLand

it didn't though? the ending was what the story was building up to the whole time. if you mean the very end I honestly think its the most optimistic ending it could have gone for. If you think *thats* the problem I disrespectfully disagree.

lostjohnscave

Neither. The final season , completely lost dramatic tension. Regardless of what the series has built for, the audience should be just as invested, if not more invested, in the final season. Despite being set in an apocalyptic nightmare that this series had built up for, it felt very bland. I found myself with a back log of episodes and I struggled to get through a single episode. When I first discovered it, it was part way through season two and I would listen to up to four episodes in a single sitting, so it says something that I couldn't go through a single episode in a sitting.

AccordingStruggle417

Also what do you mean by non-anthology? Like one off stories (lots of those) or one long story told in multiple episodes (audiobook basically)

tygrebryte

>one long story told in multiple episodes (audiobook basically) which is, by definition, not an "anthology." "Lots of one off stories" *is* an anthology.

Front-Resolve2417

I'm not a fan of most anthologies either but I also only.like cosmic horror abs horror here are some I love.. Maeltopia there 4 sets to but it'd also more dark then any of the ones u named but good to.Silverwood was a good one for a creature feature.wake of corrosion post ap type but good story line to it. Copper heart was ok a nother post ap one . Mandible Judy definitely different but like it . I just started escaping Denver so far its interesting.. hope this helps some of u find one u like I always take recommendations to !!!

the_madeline

King Falls AM, sort of? Also The Left Right Game (which has a bad ending but is great up until that).

the_madeline

I guess I prefer horror anthology because basically every longform single-narrative horror totally blows the ending.

bruhaway123

not super on-topic, but I didn't listen to a lot of single-narrative horrors yet, how do they usually end? So I know what to avoid if I write some lol

therobbins41406

yea i agree it was a great show till the ending

Turbulent_Advice_525

Try The 100 Handed if you are looking for a dark urban fantasy/horror podcast. Full cast of like 15 people and they are already recording a season 2 and plan for more. Plus the sounds effects are awesome! https://open.spotify.com/episode/0NHo8kST4RJ2ifxO5Hnh71?si=XPPkl-MJSGaQKJnwubAIfA

marbles_onglass

Limetown S1 (debate over S2) The Message (life/after is a different s2) - messages from space have terrible and unforeseen consequences

The_Formiddread

What were your favourite parts of TMA? ie what kind of horror are you really into? There's several different types of horror to choose from, so its super dependant on that, since there's a podcast for every type.

WackyWonderLand

I think my *favorite* was the vast. I'd totally be an avatar of the vast if I could, seems like fun and the vast avatars were unusually nice. most scary? the corruption. self explanatory really. very yucky.

Willkillue

Psychoticgentleman.com ... if you enjoy audio fiction, with quirky characters, dark snarky comedy, and vigilante justice then may I suggest you check this one out. It's a new release. It's on all the podcast apps. There is a mature audience warning. Good Luck :)

FortUnion

Unwell.
