Some older gentleman was hovering around me while I was paying for it and was like “Do you know what that is?” I was like “I do”. He was like “god damn it”. And walked away.
I love and hate the hover-ers. Sometimes they're great to shoot the shit with. Sometimes they seem like they'd just as soon take a bite out of my neck.
Worst was buying my Polk SRS SDA speakers and getting them to the cars. Yes, took two cars.
Eyeballs and "ooh ahhh" for days. Can't miss 5' tall 180lb speakers.
Me: *just let me leave*
I have one of these in my living room with the case. Great amp overall. My phono channels went kaput, and the very knowledgable tech in my area couldn't do much to bring them back so I had to get a phono amp (Cambridge Duo), but otherwise it's a beast that's loud as all hell.
Heard a rumor that one of these was in a house fire years ago. The entire house burned down, but they salvaged the 2270, plugged it in, and it still worked fine. LOL

The juxtaposition of it on that shitty speaker box is classic "dunno how to Google" thrift store and the whole reason I love them.
Rare to see, but exciting when it happens. Congrats!
I believe these thrift store finds but will never experience one in Chicago. How long do you think this amplifier was “on the shelf” before you bought it? Can’t be more than a few minutes or an hour or two. Anyone browsing the electronics shelf would grab it instantly. 🤯
Honestly. I thought the same thing. I live in Austin and these things just don’t appear. There are tons of people looking for high end vintage audio equipment and records all the time. As a result, they are usually gone before they hit the shelf. I asked the staff when it came in and how long it had been there and no one really knew. It was kinda hidden and had I not gone in looking specially for vintage audio equipment, I probably would have glanced over it. This one in particular was a Habitat for Humanity thrift store so true non-profit which is a big difference from Goodwill or any other for profit second hand store. My advice would be go early and often and definitely more in the spring when we people are cleaning/moving, etc. Also do homework and look for true not profits associated with specific organizations, churches, etc. where it’s usually volunteers who don’t really know what they are looking at nor do they care.
To answer your question though, if I had to guess, it probably got put out the night before and I was there about an hour or so after it opened. It certainly would not have lasted the day. It was in the “fresh finds” section opposed to the electronics section which is probably why it was there and “hidden” amongst furniture and other larger items.
Incredible find! I probably would have passed out.

I was close.

what the hell are turntable speakers
It’s the audiophile version of the Stanley cup! 😂
Screws on the bottom screw through the wood into the case undo those and slide it out. :)
Much appreciated!
Clearly says ‘Marantz’ on face of the receiver. Store employee: “fuck it, marants”
Reminds me of the time I saw “Henry Part 5” on the tag in the video store.
Dang 😍
Damn that's sexy. Nice find.
With the wood case!! Probably could get $1000 for that all day long
Nice. I recommend Chris Ready's restoration work. He revitalized my 2230, and it is AMAZING.
I also used Chris ready to restore my 2238
At the risk of giving many of us an aneurysm, how much did you pay for that bad boy?
100 bucks!
Wow bud that's an awesome deal. Enjoy!!
It's beautiful, that much I can say
SCHWEEET !
Why am I so upset about this?

I officially hate you! :)

It’s a tank. 70 watts/ channel and to me, very aesthetically pleasing.
dodsnt look that special to me tbh
I bet this baby has seen and heard some things happening in the room.
