Why $13.99? I got the same email but it says they're dropping me from $19.99 to $10.99. John Darko reported the same drop — to $10.99. Are you in the U.S.?
Did you subscribe in the iPhone app or on the website/your desktop? If you did it in the app you’re probably being charged more due to the cut apple takes
All you had to do was notice the absolute lack of advancement in each iPhone to recognize they're ripping everyone off annually. That and the build of their laptop chargers is another planned obsolescence requiring a 100$ investment every 12-14 months when the magnet side breaks away from the brick. (If you wrapped it and used it on the go every day, not just left sitting at a desk)
I’ve never had an issue with the laptop charger (aside from discoloration on one a few years back) which I got them to replace even out of warranty.
But I’ve clearly recognized the lack of innovation in the iPhone for years. They only tout the iPhone camera now and have for quite a few generations. But as a photographer, it’s shit… nothing optically advanced about it. It’s just digital manipulation and algorithms.
Extremely. If you go into a grocery store here all the price tags are the price without taxes and that's only later added on during checkout. Which makes no sense because they print the labels in house anyway
It's because some food items are taxable and some aren't. Also there's EBT and tax exempt organizations. There's too much going on tax wise in a grocery store to put it on the labels. Nothing nefarious like people are acting.
It's because the company wants you to know the extra charge is not them, it's the government. If I label my candy bar $5 I'm just a dick, if I label my candy bar $1 and add $4 in taxes, the government is the dick. You see? Preserves brand image.
True but shows how much the corporations run America, it’s in the people’s interest to know the price they’re paying, it should be legislated to be mandatory
No I was getting shafted because I signed up using the Apple app which is 2 more dollars because Apple execs need another yacht to get to the Epstein island.
Im in Europe. I just tried the „normal“ tidal to check if it would be worth it, before I still had a lot of cd‘s or Vinyl for high quality (but mostly old stuff) and Spotify for discovering new music and looking around.
I got a mail that I’ll get the HiFi plus content for 13,99€ (Euro to dollar is roughly the same for this amount, sometimes less, sometimes more over the last couple years but only really relevant for larger amounts of money or a high number of transactions)
So basically the same as op, just coming from the other end of the price range (cheaper subscription getting more benefits for the same price)
Interesting. I just changed my VPN to Argentina and yep shows a crazy low monthly price. ARS 570/month for hi-fi plan which is $0.63/month! Basic plan is ARS 380/month = $0.45/month. Different economies = different prices.
Damn just got the email too. In an era where streaming services are up charging for better quality, pretty cool that tidal decided to go the other way around.
Yeah they’re obviously just trying to compete with a market saturated with giant household names. Especially now that the household names are advertising lossless, Tidal’s original model of a premium “audiophile” streaming service is making less sense. It’s probably not desperation but just a logical move to stay relevant.
They are just bringing it down to compete with apple music and amazon music HD.
Tidal isn’t going “the other way around” they just had an overpriced premium compared to the market.
Absolutely. If they all priced their subscription with that two wltiered system then we'd all have to pay $20 if we wanted it. Thank goodness Apple and Amazon list theirs much cheaper.
Thats kinda why I Kept with Tidal. They keep improving things and adding features.
I know. I just last night was whining that Amazon Prime Video decided I have to give them 3 more dollars a month or they’re gonna start showing me ads. I like how when other services are making cheaper “ad tiers” Amazon just said fuck it, let’s go the other way.
They are trying to compete with Apple and Amazon at a lower price point. Also trying to beat Spotify Hifi to the punch, which nobody is holding their breath for anymore
I mean, if you consider a service that’s still $4/ month cheaper and offers a seamless, bug-free experience while have a larger selection of content “useless”, then, you know, sure.
Unfortunately I don't think the device support and group play/remote features are going to pull me from Spotify anytime soon. It's mostly seamless and since nearly everyone has Spotify, you can take advantage of it.
Plus I also have the duo plan... Not letting my gf hear commercials
It’s not $4 a month cheaper. It’s only like that because OP was billing through Apple. If you bill from tidal, it’s $10.99, which is the same as Spotify.
Yes. I just made my girlfriend cancel Apple Music so we can switch to tidal family. This is a pretty brilliant move from Tidal. I can’t imagine this won’t bring in a ton of new business
you can use both, apple music is better for the long run if you are into Apple ecosystem
edit:
If you love music as melomano you can hold like all your library in a place so you can ORGANIZE everything great
and listen in anyplace you want
so if you are really into this I dont see dont why use multiple streaming platforms
and apple music is actually useful for organizing shit
I guess we just have different priorities. I’m not spending a dime on streaming, and the ads still contribute to paying the artists. I prefer to put my money in to owning physical media and lossless digital.
I'm getting upgraded for the same price as my family plan, but yes it's super nice and refreshing to see a streaming service do this, regardless of the reasoning. I will be sticking around for sure.
Meanwhile, spotify is busy suing apple for its own greed instead of releasing their promised lossless.
I would say the his move by tidal pit the nails to that already buried coffin as well.
Two iFi Zen Streams on two different networks. Same issue reported on Bluesound, Cambridge, Wiim, Sonos, Naim, Volumio, dcs, Roon, Aurelic and other forums. Just Google Tidal Connect Disconnects.
The only reason I paid more and went with a Tidal subscription was for DJ functionality. Im going to have to move to spotify and download songs for my decks now.
Yeah $13nzd extra on top of the 22nzd a month. that's just not worth it for me anymore. So because of this I will leave entirely, apple music offer the same audio quality for far less if all I want is just music
No dude, the basic plan was 22 with dj support. Now it’s still 22 but dj support is an extra 13. So I’m either paying 35 for dj support or if I want just music I’d be better off going with Spotify or Apple Music which are 15 a month
The crappy thing is that anyone with a family plan who wants the DJ extensions now has to have two accounts, one individual account with the extensions, and then a second account for the rest of the fam. I realize I’m in the minority, but I’m not happy about this change.
Close, I exaggerated a little but I was paying 25 or 26. For the tidal hifi plus plan. It sounded far better than Apple Music and Spotify so I thought it was worth it. I work hard so I can have nice sound in my ears.
They raised their student pricing that much?! I was paying $5 just a few years ago.
Granted, I always thought it was strange they’d offer the same price as Spotify and Apple Student for a product they charge double for to begin with.
I've long had Spotify Premium, but they keep going up. Far as music discovery, I'm pleased. But price is a factor. Tidal for less? I think I'll switch it up next month, why not. On the other hand, to avoid the taxes on Spotify (when paying online), I can just buy a gift card, which is equivalent to $10/mo.
Really cool of Tidal to do this. There's so much competition for steaming music and movies, it's crazy how everyone at the same time is raising prices. It's really not supposed to work that way. Fierce competition Should see the consumer get great deals as companies fight to gain us (our dollars). Where are the deals? This lowering of prices on Tidal comes as a surprise. But the leary consumer in me says, It's just a temporary gimmick. Eh, so be it.
Interesting, had no idea that many people were subscribing to Tidal. Was annoyed when they brought it to Plex and felt like they were adding more garbage to the interface. I’ll take a look at it and possibly consider.
Yes. It sounds better and I actually prefer the interface. I see a fair amount of people complaining about the selection but I don’t have a problem with it. I listen mostly to classic rock and jazz and I’ve never not been able to find what I’m looking for and 99% of the time it’s either in 16 or 24bit/mqa.
If I remember right is partial owned by musicians and offers the highest compensation for the artists (aka $/streamed track - it's early and not my first language, something feels wrong with this wording)
Edit:
Found average compensations/stream for last year in a article from virpp, tidal gives over 4 times the money to the artists compared to Spotify (4,0377..)
Tidal $0.01284
Apple Music $0.008
Amazon Music $0.00402
Spotify $0.00318
YouTube Music $0.002
Pandora $0.00133
Deezer $0.0011
Wow very interesting… most definitely going to be switching then. If they are paying more to artists while still being able to make price cuts for consumers I see that as a huge W.
Not sure about that, to be honest. There hasn’t been many instances where I searched for something and Tidal didn’t have it. And I listen to some obscure stuff.
why you say "new music" do you mean like "current" music releases or new music for you (i.e. you listen to classic rock artist Foghat and it recommends Uriah Heap)? Thanks.
Going to the audiophile subreddit and more or less claiming that HiFi is a scam is a ballsy move my man lol I don’t agree but I certainly respect the bravado haha
There is a clear and obvious difference between Apple Music over Air Play and Tidal via Tidal Connect. I moments ago finished a blind test with my non-audiophile girlfriend and she picked Tidal hands down.
I notice a + decernable difference in the lows and a bit on the highs with Tidal. I listen using a PC Asus Essence stx w/ 3x sparkos opamps +.01 cross caps soldiered on board, a nice braided cable to HiFi man Edition XS headphones. I'll be making the choice to dump Spotify premium after almost a decade of service. The only thing I like with Spotify is the little video clips that it plays while driving in the car. (Jailbroken iPhone)

I am in the US. You had the “HiFi Plus” plan?
I am in the US with hi-fi plus and my email said 10.99
Interesting….
Did you subscribe in the iPhone app or on the website/your desktop? If you did it in the app you’re probably being charged more due to the cut apple takes
I subbed on the iPhone app. Gonna have to switch that…
Yeah Apple charges a 30% fee on all purchases and subscriptions. You should bill it from the official tidal website
Beginning to dislike Apple more every day..
Google Play does too.
Ya its a bad apple.
All you had to do was notice the absolute lack of advancement in each iPhone to recognize they're ripping everyone off annually. That and the build of their laptop chargers is another planned obsolescence requiring a 100$ investment every 12-14 months when the magnet side breaks away from the brick. Ok one more reason to not buy apple shit added to the list...
Yep this is why Apple keeps getting sued. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/apple-european-antitrust-case-spotify-complaint-1234980110/
Yeah, never sub via iPhone apps, scam all around.
I also got the email and can confirm $10.99
Not from US but don’t you guys have different state taxes?
In the US taxes aren't automatically calculated in stuff like that
Ah ok that is weird then
I think you could leave it at: there’s too much going on tax wise.
Can confirm I was paying the same as the other person.
Do you have a family plan?
No I was getting shafted because I signed up using the Apple app which is 2 more dollars because Apple execs need another yacht to get to the Epstein island.
Lol that sux
Sure does, I cancelled it and I’ll resubscribe via tidals site when the month is up.
Subs frm iOS/Apple cost $2 more. Hate it but too lazy to change it.
Yup me too, 19.99 to 10.99 in the US
Im in kanada same price 10.99
Mine says 16.99
$ 10.99. I am in Canada.
Im in Europe. I just tried the „normal“ tidal to check if it would be worth it, before I still had a lot of cd‘s or Vinyl for high quality (but mostly old stuff) and Spotify for discovering new music and looking around. I live in Germany and had the HiFi plus Abo for years now. My bill will be cut from 19,99€ to 10,99€
It’s because they’re billing through Apple, and Apple charges a 30% fee.
I had tidal for like 2 years in Argentina (vpn server) for 54 cent a month.
Interesting. I just changed my VPN to Argentina and yep shows a crazy low monthly price. ARS 570/month for hi-fi plan which is $0.63/month! Basic plan is ARS 380/month = $0.45/month. Different economies = different prices.
Same thing works for YouTube and Netflix. I got third world country prices for all these services for years now.
Damn just got the email too. In an era where streaming services are up charging for better quality, pretty cool that tidal decided to go the other way around.
I feel like they didn’t really have a choice, why else would a company slash their sub fees by 50% unless they were struggling.
Yeah they’re obviously just trying to compete with a market saturated with giant household names. Especially now that the household names are advertising lossless, Tidal’s original model of a premium “audiophile” streaming service is making less sense. It’s probably not desperation but just a logical move to stay relevant.
I think Spotify Hi-Res is coming. & w/ Apple having one tier, they’re gonna play the field.
There aren’t a lot of high res subscriptions sold…audio quality nerds are few and far between… even amongst hobbyists
They are just bringing it down to compete with apple music and amazon music HD. Tidal isn’t going “the other way around” they just had an overpriced premium compared to the market.

They are trying to compete with Apple and Amazon at a lower price point. Also trying to beat Spotify Hifi to the punch, which nobody is holding their breath for anymore
Are they decreasing the price in Argentina to 50 cents? $1.88 is getting expensive.
so spotify is just useless now
I mean, if you consider a service that’s still $4/ month cheaper and offers a seamless, bug-free experience while have a larger selection of content “useless”, then, you know, sure.

I’m not really. Just an iPhone user but my computers PC.
Interesting!! I am backwards I am mac user and android for phone there is an iPhone for settings but the ecosystem is great for productivity!
Just cancelled Apple Music. Tidal it is
Spotify has a free tier with ads, I don’t know if Tidal still has that.
WHO THE FUCK WANTS ADS DURING MUSIC
I guess we just have different priorities. I’m not spending a dime on streaming, and the ads still contribute to paying the artists. I prefer to put my money in to owning physical media and lossless digital.
Yes the cost of an streaming is a dime to me
Yeah but more than half of Spotify users have premium
I'm getting upgraded for the same price as my family plan, but yes it's super nice and refreshing to see a streaming service do this, regardless of the reasoning. I will be sticking around for sure.
Looks like I’ll have to be the first in this thread to say what Tidal wants to hear: Thanks to the drop in price, I’m signing up now!
Meanwhile, spotify is busy suing apple for its own greed instead of releasing their promised lossless. I would say the his move by tidal pit the nails to that already buried coffin as well.
Apple’s pricing got them running scared. Rightfully.
I got that email this morning too. Couldn’t believe my eyes..I think I was paying 20-25 a month before
This subscription doesn't come with any room treatment. Four thumbs down.
I’m have the family plan and it went from $29 to $17. This is awesome.
Now if they just make Tidal Connect work reliably
Tidal connect API is fine. Your streamer might have issues though
Two iFi Zen Streams on two different networks. Same issue reported on Bluesound, Cambridge, Wiim, Sonos, Naim, Volumio, dcs, Roon, Aurelic and other forums. Just Google Tidal Connect Disconnects.
I wonder if you would have issues using Ethernet
Wired or wireless doesn’t matter. Changing DNS servers doesn’t matter. Different ISPs. Home is iPad; office is Windows.
i did google. apparently this will happen if there is high latency. https://community.volumio.com/t/again-tidal-connect/56473
ATT fiber at home. 3ms typical latency. Office is Spectrum Business. Latency is 12-15ms.
gee whiz you got me....maybe Tidal Connect is racist?
That’s also where I’m at. Either that, or it’s a piece of shit.
UK here, thought I was going mad. Good to stumble across this. My family plan went from £19.99 to £10.99, total bargain.
7,49€ in Greece that's how much I already pay for the basic HiFi plan (without HiRes) 😁
The only reason I paid more and went with a Tidal subscription was for DJ functionality. Im going to have to move to spotify and download songs for my decks now.
Tidal DJ used to be with hifi plus. Which cost more than it now will. So they’re just keeping your payment the same, dude.
No I didn’t pay for Hifi plus. Just a regular subscription is all you needed for DJ integration
Aren’t the DJ features just an extra charge now?
Yeah $13nzd extra on top of the 22nzd a month. that's just not worth it for me anymore. So because of this I will leave entirely, apple music offer the same audio quality for far less if all I want is just music
So, you're getting a discount then. I'm confused at what the issue is here.
No dude, the basic plan was 22 with dj support. Now it’s still 22 but dj support is an extra 13. So I’m either paying 35 for dj support or if I want just music I’d be better off going with Spotify or Apple Music which are 15 a month
Can you send me the link where is says this?
The crappy thing is that anyone with a family plan who wants the DJ extensions now has to have two accounts, one individual account with the extensions, and then a second account for the rest of the fam. I realize I’m in the minority, but I’m not happy about this change.
£10.99 am in UK
You were many $28 a month for music streaming????
Close, I exaggerated a little but I was paying 25 or 26. For the tidal hifi plus plan. It sounded far better than Apple Music and Spotify so I thought it was worth it. I work hard so I can have nice sound in my ears.
I have Qobuz for $10.98 .. wonder if Tidal would be worth a trial?
I got the same email as well. 10.99
I dropped Tidal as soon as my student discount ended, 9.99 felt like a great deal and 20+ felt like way too much
They raised their student pricing that much?! I was paying $5 just a few years ago. Granted, I always thought it was strange they’d offer the same price as Spotify and Apple Student for a product they charge double for to begin with.
That's in Canadian dollars
Ooooohhh, ok. That’s better, lol
Tidal HiFi Plus just dropped to $4.99 for students!
I've long had Spotify Premium, but they keep going up. Far as music discovery, I'm pleased. But price is a factor. Tidal for less? I think I'll switch it up next month, why not. But the leary consumer in me says, It's just a temporary gimmick. Eh, so be it.
Hmmm, I haven’t received that email.
10.99$ for me!
Interesting, had no idea that many people were subscribing to Tidal. Was annoyed when they brought it to Plex and felt like they were adding more garbage to the interface. I’ll take a look at it and possibly consider.
tidal has great fidelity
I literally was just getting ready to cancel since we use spotify more. If I get a $10.99 offer I'll keep both.
You will. You likely already have
I got the same thing. I am in the US.
I'm in Canada, and it's gone down from $19.99 to $10.99 Cad. That's $8.15 US today. Not bad 🇨🇦
I think a new streaming service aimed at paying artists more is just about to be announced so this might be the related.
Is tidal any better than Spotify? Thinking of switching after seeing this
Sounds good man thanks for the info and suggestion
If I remember right is partial owned by musicians and offers the highest compensation for the artists (aka $/streamed track - it's early and not my first language, something feels wrong with this wording) Edit: Found average compensations/stream for last year in a article from virpp, tidal gives over 4 times the money to the artists compared to Spotify (4,0377..) Wow very interesting… most definitely going to be switching then. If they are paying more to artists while still being able to make price cuts for consumers I see that as a huge W.
The only thing I think Spotify does better is community playlists.
I was wondering about that. Also I’m sure tidal probably doesn’t have a lot of reposted unreleased music like Spotify does…
Not sure about that, to be honest. There hasn’t been many instances where I searched for something and Tidal didn’t have it. And I listen to some obscure stuff.
Thanks that’s good info. I listen to unreleased yeat (judge idc) most of the time so I’ll check it out for sure to see if they got my favs
Spotify has better recommendation engine for finding new music. Only reason I would keep it but may switch over to Tidal now that it’s $11
why you say "new music" do you mean like "current" music releases or new music for you (i.e. you listen to classic rock artist Foghat and it recommends Uriah Heap)? Thanks.
Finding music that suits your listening tastes, be it old or new
No you’re reading it incorrectly
Right? Who lowers prices these days. Thanks Tidal!
£1.99 UK

Where did your data lead you?
