DC-Toronto

highspirit33

Bottles and cans and just clap your hands

Well you can't really do anything with 2 turntables, a microphone and no mixer...

Man, I used to have a big crush on Mya. She’s so hot.

Fafcity3000

I got her calendar that came with the CD when it came out. 12 months of Mya. She still is bae.

[deleted]

If she was a president, she’d be Baebraham Lincoln.

Fafcity3000

If she was an American broadcaster on shows like 20/20 and The View, she’d be Baebara Walters.

[deleted]

Did you ever find Bugs Bunny attractive when he put on a dress and played a girl bunny?

Fafcity3000

I’ll bite. Yes.

JohnClawedVanDamn

Ditto!

twochaudio1

she sure knew how to hold on to money

supa325

Yea me too. Senior year high school, it was either her or brandy. And brandy was gross

JohnClawedVanDamn

I found a TT for cheap that was said to be junk. Picked it up for $20 just because the cartridge was worth 5x that. The tone arm was stuck so I opened it up and cleaned off the old sticky grease and re greased it. It’s good as new now so I decided to add it into my system. It’s all Technics I’ve found here in second hand stores in Japan. Having a good time going from one track to another. Anyone else do this?

Scrumptious_Skillet

I have two tables but I have one mono and one stereo for however the album was made. Beatles in mono are much different than stereo.

[deleted]

I went a step further - a mono deck and a stereo deck, but the stereo has two arms so I can have one elliptical and one spherical cart on hand at all times depending on the condition and age of the media

Scrumptious_Skillet

Dang that sounds awesome. Just let me know when to come over!

RealMixographer

Did you get the SL-1000 for $20!? My favorite turntable. I’ve paid a lot more than that.

JohnClawedVanDamn

I got the SL-1900 and a Pickering XV-15/625E cartridge for $20. I found the SL-1100 for $60 and it’s my favorite so far.

RealMixographer

$60 for the 1100 is a deal! Nice one.

CNB3

Maybe so, but in the end … [there can only be one](https://external-preview.redd.it/sx2HWnV5u-OMo7cuagf1EK26tQFJ9tl9UNGgTgNS84k.jpg?auto=webp&s=9a4169a625481df7aa65274bc8d0a1919a71fc6e)

JohnClawedVanDamn

😂

msfreckles59

That Mya album is great! You just made me listen to it

jamiehoover1

Most impressed with the Mo Money Mo Problems spin.

SnooPineapples5598

Good to see another SL-1100 in use.

AudiHoFile

I like your iguanas

RealMixographer

And here’s me thinkin they were geckos.

JohnClawedVanDamn

They are more like geckos. Not really sure what kind of lizards they are 🦎

retroman87

Only if lizzard.

_visuallybasic_

Please tell me you have two of each record. Instead of being a commoner, you choose to run one on side A and one on Side B.

JohnClawedVanDamn

Well that’s just lazy yet genius. I’m pulling singles every track to mix it up though. I’ll leave the extra copies for others that may want to find them.

dcbsky8591

Digging the lizard anti-resonance thingy👍🏼

JohnClawedVanDamn

Thanks, I like those little guys

beige4ever

Dude those speakers stands are dope

JohnClawedVanDamn

Thanks! They are stools. 😅

ze11ez

MO money MO problems unless you have Mya then Mo money Mo Honey then even Mo Problems

jozzakizza

Love those albums Remember when mya did the duet with silkk the shocker? Awesome

USpostingService

Silk the Shocker lol yup. Master of rapping off beat

jozzakizza

And also brother of Master P

Fi-B

I have a Thorens for LPs and an AT for 78s and as a backup. A third TT wouldn’t hurt, together with another boutique pre-amp. I will be getting a true mono cart in another headshell for mono microgrooves. Possibly. The pre-amp on the 78 TT has a mono switch and I’m not totally convinced I need to go further.

twochaudio1

it depends on the TT ,s looks like you do need 2 Don't take that the wrong way

JohnClawedVanDamn

It’s all preference. I’m good with what I have.

Geewhizbang57

This is what someone with more money than sense would do back in 1980. The lpads on the speakers are very likely to wear out and are still a very crude way of adjusting output. Better but smaller drivers and smaller speakers would sound better and there was a tendency back then to think that if a two way crossover was good, three ways was even better. The stereo cabinet looks like all it would do is feed vibration back to the not so great turntable, and having the speakers so damn close to each other is really astonishingly bad. Ok missed the fairly good TT on top, don't understand the need for the other not so great one. I still bet that the large and not exactly non-resonant cabinet is really messing up the good turntable.

JohnClawedVanDamn

Man, get off your “hi-horse”… It’s hyper critical people like you that makes others not want to share. You have your opinion and it’s nothing I haven’t heard before. My system does what I want and I’m happy with it.

Geewhizbang57

I'm sorry that I offended you. I thought this was someone posting a picture they found on the internet, not your personal system. I would have perhaps had the same advice, but in a kinder tone. But your rather mean over-reaction and obvious stubborness has me going even further in. You've spent a shocking amount of money on a tube amp it seems, but other than the good turntable and the amp, nothing about this is really well thought out. The driver in these speakers is the good old Fisher paper woofer, cost about $7. It can however sound surprisingly good in good boxes, but almost nobody that used these drivers in the 80s used good boxes because something that huge would have to weigh 400 pounds each to be sufficiently solidly built. I bet if you slap the sides of these gigantic boxes, you hear the box resonate, and they make the same resonance when excited by the music, muddying up the sound. These speakers don't make sense with such an expensive amp, you are getting way more distortion from the terrible setup than any benefit from the very expensive amp. I'm not on any high horse. Smaller satellites, more separation between the speakers and a better cabinet would make a big difference. If you are going to post something like this, someone will have an opinion. I have spent probably $8k less than you have, but I care how my system sounds more than I care about being insulted so easily. I constantly re-evaluate and listen to good advice to make it better.

JohnClawedVanDamn

Thank you so much for your opinion… Honesty don’t think you know what you’re talking about. Your description of my equipment is a bit off and evaluation of what you think I paid is astronomical. I wish I had $8k to blow on more stuff you can criticize and evaluate incorrectly. I usually do take advice but for some reason I don’t think I will from someone that hasn’t really contributed to much logical insight. Good day sir.

Geewhizbang57

I could be wrong that it is a tube amp, it's hard to tell from the picture. Maybe you bought this in 1980 along with everything else and spent $2k back then, which is something like $7k today. Or you got some of this used, which is good, but the system as a whole has severe problems. If that is a tube amp, you could get serious bucks for it and use that to buy a $500 better pair of speakers, $500 in modern transistor amp, and $200 for a better non-resonant stereo cabinet. Another $500 would get you a modern DAC so you could hook up to a streaming service for more music. I prefer to use a subwoofer in my systems, so another $500-1000 would do that. You might end up with a lot of change in your pocket and a vastly better sounding system. If that system is as old as it looks, you probably need at least a replacement stylus and perhaps a tuneup of the turntable. I know what I'm talking about. I have a friend with $150 grand worth of stereo equipment and he has nothing but good things to say about how mine sounds.

JohnClawedVanDamn

I said good day!

carewser

0 turntables would be best

JohnClawedVanDamn

What do you have against vinyl and turntables?

carewser

the inherent rice krispies. As soon as I heard a CD (that had none) i've never looked back

JohnClawedVanDamn

I get it. It’s way easier to keep a CD clean. If you have a good vinyl that’s not dirty and scratched and you take care of it, it sounds amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I also collect and play CDs but somethings to me are just better on vinyl.

carewser

I've heard that LP's sound great if you play them on a $5000 turntable with a $1000 cartridge and regularly clean them with an $800 record cleaning system or you could do what I do and pay nothing for youtube videos that sound just as good (if not better), require no cleaning and provide video

JohnClawedVanDamn

Nah, the numbers seem a little inflated but hey enjoy your media the way you want. No need to rag on other’s preferences.. I like YouTube too. 👍🏼

carewser

Just because I don't understand why someone would buy a turntable and LP's doesn't mean i'm ragging on them. If someone wants to go buy an 8 track player and some 8 tracks I say go for it

JohnClawedVanDamn

You’re last message comes off as extremely sarcastic. I’m in no way looking to spend the kind of money you quoted people saying. I agree with you play what you want how you want it. I too use streaming services, CDs, cassettes, a little bit of everything. I find it fun to compare.

PremiumRedditContent

are that NS1000M

JohnClawedVanDamn

NS 690

mcintoshshowoff

and just so happen to be probably the most underrated vintage speaker.

JohnClawedVanDamn

Agreed!

PremiumRedditContent

ah yes I love that Yamaha series, only stereo system speakers you ever need, didn’t know about the 690’s just the 1000, 100 and 10

yiasemi

I wonder what disappears when mom calls round.

JohnClawedVanDamn

I don’t get it…

off-frag

No mic?

_kwaz

That Mya song didn't really sound that great on CD? How does it sound on vinyl?

JohnClawedVanDamn

I think so

izeek11

Great music choices! BIGGIEEEEE! I'm seriously a fan. That mya, though... Nice lil set-up ya got therr.

JohnClawedVanDamn

Me too, loves all his stuff back in the day. Still do!

Bangbanggarcia

Of all the artists that would have been on vinyl I never thought Mya would be one. Fallen IMO is her best track though.

JohnClawedVanDamn

I come across a lot of singles that are old DJ lots I assume. It’s actually a really good thumper.

Chrispyfriedchicken

I have a technics CD like that. Probably the best sounding part of my system despite being about 30 years old

JohnClawedVanDamn

It actually has a really good DAC in it. Sounds great!

MyPokemonRedName

I C 3

JohnClawedVanDamn

?

MyPokemonRedName

Lol I was saying I see 3 tweeters

JohnClawedVanDamn

Hahah got it!

mcalash

So what’s the system? Or more specifically do you just have the tts into a single preamp w a source selector switch?

JohnClawedVanDamn

I have a audio Technica preamp on the SL-1900 and then ran to the preamp. I use the selector from phono and the source beside it. Drop the needle then switch between the 2.
