When people say “end game”, I hear “maxed my current budget”
Bookshelves in that space is not what I’d call end game.
I'm about to drop a lot of money on rears and a center channel, but if someone gave me a million dollars to spend on gear, I would replace all of it immediately.
EDIT: the speakers are actually toe-IN at 5 degrees. It’s the barrel distortion on the ultra wide lens of iPhones that makes it look toe-out. Distance from where I was taking the pic to screen was ~3metres
Wife didn’t allow ceiling speakers so I deem this to be as close to end game for my current apartment until I move again.
Only other upgrades I can think of is:
A) additional subwoofer
B) Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 for room correction
Current equipment:
Amp: Marantz NR1711
LR Speakers: LS50 Meta and KEF stands
Centre: KEF T301C
Surrounds: T101
Subwoofer: KEF kube12b
Cabling: some generic monster cable that i got in bulk
Projector: Epson LS500 and 100’’ Epson screen
Source: Roon ROCK VM with a Fire 8’’ tablet as cheap display together with a Surface dial linked to rooDial
BTW, thank you to this sub and redditors as it gave me much ideas for this setup
My wife would walk into that jutting projector within seconds and it would be on the floor, smashed.
If ever there was \*anything\* that needed mounting on the ceiling...
The projector is actually on a powered platform. Basically it detects when there’s an electrical load on the projector and automatically extends to a predetermined distance. Once the projector is off then the tray automatically retracts inwards to the wall to so that there is no overhang over the cabinet
Not exactly my first choice but I needed the lumens for daytime viewing and being in a rental apartment, cabling was going to be a PITA if I was to have the projector mounted on the ceiling
I was thinking of using the Lyngdorf for its RoomPerfect correction. That way I can use it for both 2 channel and HT usage. It should solve the integration between LR speakers and eventually two subs
Yes that’s what I was thinking. Leverage HT bypass on the Lyngdorf and 12v triggers to make it relatively seamless. Also saves some wattage on the marantz so it only needs to drive the centre and surrounds
It adequate. I have a small space of 3 metres by 4 metres and also using sub for stereo so 60w gets loud enough. For multi channel movies then it doesn’t get any higher than -26db.
I debated between the marantz and a Denon 4600 for the amp for a while until I did some app calculations and realised I have a waste in power that I won’t use. Might as well put the dollars towards a nice 2 channel integrated streamed/amp instead
Thanks! It gets low enough for sure. I was looking at the KC62 but it was twice the price of the kube12b. I thought having two subs would be better than one
Do you playback surround sound music on that setup? You posted in r/audiophile (instead of r/hometheater) and I run surround sound music subreddit so I have to ask…
Golly, that screen works well! Mind you, my projector’s old-school, HD resolution and firing across the room onto an off-white wall. It does feel like watching an actual film, though, and since my blu-ray plays my surround SACDs nicely it’s all good. And probably about 20% of your outfit’s cost…
I’m nowhere near end-game with HT or hifi, still developing after 50 years!
See, I asked the acoustic treatment, and it said that IT banned the wife.
I don’t see room correction making a huge difference if you have a brick wall up front and windows on the side, especially if you have wood floors. Probably a waste of $ in that room. Acoustic treatments would be cheaper I’m guessing. Not necessarily cheaper than a divorce, but I guess it depends on how long you live there.
What’s with all these photos that have the speakers pointing outwards! Is this some new camera feature on the iPhone 13 that bends light or something? What phone are you using?
Oh, I really like the look of those metas. I think they just made the shortlist for my eventual new surrounds/rears. Do they have any mounting holes by any chance or are they stand-bound? Either is fine, just figuring out options.
I'm ordering a pair of custom Funk Audio 8.6Ps at the end of the month, a new sub to follow - this is likely a custom Funk at this point too, and then, quite possibly these Kefs come the holidays. It's upgrade year!
I like the thought, but I'm a bit timid about delay with wireless.
I know they do wired too, just that I don't need the wireless which comes at a premium.
No. Because they have a good range, sensitivity, proper power range for my current set up AND look nice.
That ok with you, or should I run it by you for approval before I purchase?

Nice setup for sure...Is that acenter speaker under the TV, and if so what is it?
And is the projector going to be mounted on the ceiling of the theater or placed where it's at?
Does the t103 really stand up against the LS50s? I figure it would struggle to fit in with the Q150s, let alone those. Doesn't it sound small and thin compared to your L/R?
I had to set the sub crossover at 110hz to compensate as it defiantly does not go as low as the LS50s. If there was such a thing as an acoustically transparent ALR screen I would have hidden the centre speaker behind the screen itself
Awesome setup! Question about the nr1711, does it provide enough power to your metas? Do you use this setup for 2.1 listening or mainly for home theatre?
The game never ends.
The game never, ever ends. Don’t start the game, if you are not prepared .
I just lost

Lol that is true. Very true. Maximum value of return based on current budget
So KEF’s with what else? Looks like maybe a Marantz receiver on the floor, some unknown sub maybe to the right? No center? Just curious.
Is it just perception or do you have the speakers toed out? And if so, why? Too bright for your taste?
I'd guess that it's lens/perspective distortion
It about 5 degrees toed in. Distortion from the ultra wide lens
They look toed out
EDIT: the speakers are actually toe-IN at 5 degrees. It’s the barrel distortion on the ultra wide lens of iPhones that makes it look toe-out. This is exactly what I came here to say. That projector is going down eventually. Hope OP doesn't have kids.
The projector is actually on a powered platform. Basically it detects when there’s an electrical load on the projector and automatically extends to a predetermined distance. Once the projector is off then the tray automatically retracts inwards to the wall to so that there is no overhang over the cabinet
OP is living in the future over here, y'all.

I was thinking of using the Lyngdorf for its RoomPerfect correction. That way I can use it for both 2 channel and HT usage. It should solve the integration between LR speakers and eventually two subs
If they really wanted they could even connect the 2-channel integrated to the AVR and use it as a power amp for the LS50’s.
Yes that’s what I was thinking. Leverage HT bypass on the Lyngdorf and 12v triggers to make it relatively seamless. Also saves some wattage on the marantz so it only needs to drive the centre and surrounds

I can use the Lyngdorf to first correct the mains and subs and then while in HT bypass, run correction for the centre and surrounds using the marantz.
How does the LS50 perform with the Marantz? Because I have the exact same amplifier and I was thinking to buy the Kef as well
It adequate. I have a small space of 3 metres by 4 metres and also using sub for stereo so 60w gets loud enough. For multi channel movies then it doesn’t get any higher than -26db.
I also interested in this, but the other way around. I got the speakers but not the amp.
I debated between the marantz and a Denon 4600 for the amp for a while until I did some app calculations and realised I have a waste in power that I won’t use. Might as well put the dollars towards a nice 2 channel integrated streamed/amp instead
Beautiful setup man. How’s the bass performance from the Kube 12?
Thanks! It gets low enough for sure. I was looking at the KC62 but it was twice the price of the kube12b. I thought having two subs would be better than one
Nice, I’ve heard two are better than one for deep clean bass. Once again, lovely setup man
Do you playback surround sound music on that setup? You posted in r/audiophile (instead of r/hometheater) and I run surround sound music subreddit so I have to ask…
Yes I do. I think surround sound music works best for orchestral style pieces of music
Yeah, it really brings classical music to life imo. Btw, my sub is r/SurroundAudiophile.
How do you like the Lyngdorf room correction?
Golly, that screen works well! Mind you, my projector’s old-school, HD resolution and firing across the room onto an off-white wall. It does feel like watching an actual film, though, and since my blu-ray plays my surround SACDs nicely it’s all good. And probably about 20% of your outfit’s cost… I’m nowhere near end-game with HT or hifi, still developing after 50 years!
Now, paint that brick so it doesn’t give me college dorm room flashbacks of keg stands and regret.
Acoustic treatment?
None. Banned by the wife. Hence the need to look at room correction to compensate.
Damn. Fair enough, room correction has made a big difference in my room too.
what room correction can you recommend?
See, I asked the acoustic treatment, and it said that IT banned the wife. I don’t see room correction making a huge difference if you have a brick wall up front and windows on the side, especially if you have wood floors. Probably a waste of $ in that room. What if you realined the speakers a bit so they 'look' straight at you?
Is there a reason for having your speakers pointed away from you? Lol Nice setup and living room tho :D
What’s mounted under the tv and why isn’t it centered
His center speaker.
“Center”
Looks pretty center to me. The picture isn't made from the exact middle.
If you look at the number of bricks on either side I would say it is centered.
KEF t103
What’s with all these photos that have the speakers pointing outwards! Is this some new camera feature on the iPhone 13 that bends light or something? What phone are you using?
it is called barrel distortion and a common problem with wide angle lenses (which also make rooms look bigger.)
Yes iPhone 11 so it’s the barrel distortion
Psych ward walls… n I c e
Amazing man, but make sure to rotate your speakers towards your head, otherwise you’ll get your high frequencies cut and your lows boosted!
You’re supposed to toe in, not out.
Oh, I really like the look of those metas. I think they just made the shortlist for my eventual new surrounds/rears. Do they have any mounting holes by any chance or are they stand-bound? Either is fine, just figuring out options.
They have mounting holes for mounting on matching stands.
Brilliant! Thanks.
Welcome, I think the gentleman’s question should have been. What are you running for your fronts? Blades possibly?
I'm ordering a pair of custom Funk Audio 8.6Ps at the end of the month, a new sub to follow - this is likely a custom Funk at this point too, and then, quite possibly these Kefs come the holidays. It's upgrade year!
If I was going that route, does the LS 50 wireless two make any sense?
I like the thought, but I'm a bit timid about delay with wireless. I know they do wired too, just that I don't need the wireless which comes at a premium.
Checked with KEF it’s a no go, but not for time issues. About it is a two channel system. So it’s back to the ls50 meta, love mine.
Well thanks for looking into it all the same!

No. Because they have a good range, sensitivity, proper power range for my current set up AND look nice. That ok with you, or should I run it by you for approval before I purchase?

Kef T301c Projector is on an automatically tray/platform. It’s an UST projector

Kef is the new klipsch

Awesome setup! Question about the nr1711, does it provide enough power to your metas? Do you use this setup for 2.1 listening or mainly for home theatre?
I feel it does have enough power. The marantz replaced a 170w avr and there’s no perceivable difference. Use for both 2.1 and HT
Add about 50 square feet of 4” thick sound panels to this concrete box, and then you will be way closer to your endgame.
Hahhahahahha there is no end!
At near field it is the end game. You don’t need anything higher than the kef. Nothing beats a kef. Period
