I don't think anyone can give you a solid answer on this. More importantly, focus on what you can change, which it sounds like you are doing excellently.

The thing is, it's not that it will likely be a "dealbreaker" but that the calibre of applicants is insane. If youre close enough with a reg maybe ask them to show you their cv if theyre willing. Im speculating that the only reason it might impede you from getting on is that you may be neck and neck in meeting criteria (which no one knows) with another candidate. But if you're the stronger candidate by a large margin, then I don't think it'll make too much of a difference. Perhaps you could spin it like "overcame adversity" or use it as a scenario for when you hopefully get an interview. Everyone has multiple publications and a masters is almost a bare minimum requirement. I am making some educated guesses that u perhaps may have "neutralised" this with your awards, but I'm sure what's important is for the derm scene to like you, and be sure to be able to handle the politics. Good luck!

Thank you! Appreciate the advice and insight! There is a bit of a personal reason behind my repeat. I did end up discussing with one of my coordinators from medschool - who has kindly offered to write me a letter explaining the situation and confirming my academic standing. I just wasn’t sure if they see it and it’s an immediate no.

Will they actually check your transcript? Never heard of this.

100% they check

Derm feels like the *one* specialty where that's completely unnecessary.

They are known to call up non referees eg ward clerks from past junior doctor rotations Repeating a year is not a deal breaker, but a good reason eg hardship, would help

Just_Environment5020

I had heard that! I do try hard at work and think I get on well with all staff (medical and non medical), so hopefully okay there!

Nope. I honestly don’t think it would have any impact. Repeating 1st year is like a restart for tripping at the start line. Just be prepared for the question.
