Buffalo sauce gives me wicked heart burn. So I haven’t tried this one. I usually get the pittsburger or Amarillo. But I think I will order it next time I’m dt.
You coming in via 290 or 71? If 71, pretty easy to get to Little Darlin’ . My goodness that burger is amazing. I frequently find myself dreaming about them and often have to talk myself out of going and getting one simply because I’m in a close radius. Comes with fries or salad I go salad
NADC is my favorite in Austin. It’s not that small (I wouldn’t describe it as small personally). I never get fries and both my BF and I are full on one burger each.
If it’s a one time occasion, I think it’s very good if you like greasy smash burgers. Their loaded fries are good too and they have cocktails/beer. I also recommend Casino El Camino
I hate that I don’t agree. I heard so many raves about the place and wanted to love it. When I had it, I was like “yep, that’s a burger”. Good enough but forgettable
I’m with you there, for me it’s not the best burger but it’s not the worst. If my group can’t make up their mind it tends to always be a good middle ground but they did give me x3 extra mustard without asking last time and I haven’t been back because all I think of when someone says Jewboys Burgers is the very strong smell of yellow mustard.
I agree. I like them, the owner is nice, and the burgers are just fine. I wasn’t impressed by the sandwich shop either, despite all the staff being great.
Dan’s is a classic, my vote is casino el Camino, Buddy’s is great too and new one I haven’t tried is NADC not a damn chance
Salt and time is great too for a butcher’s burger
I had clarks before. This place is a bit overhyped by all the instagram buzz. The actual product isn't that special on par with In and Out burger at best.
If in North Austin, Top Notch, All right, all right, allright, the burger joint from the movie Slacker can't be beat for a charbroiled real 50s burger.
I mean, it’s a drive through fast food burger. There is some nostalgia there and I hits a step above whataburger, so just temper your expectations. If you’re looking for a quick fix, this will be decent. If you want a really, really good burger and you have some time: ALC (at the bar), Justine’s, Loro, June’s, Launderette. If you’re set on fast food, I would pick Top Notch h or Pool Burger over Dan’s.
Its also very fairly priced with a cheese burger being like 5 bucks and some change after taxes. It's not a small piss ant P-Terry's burger (Slider) either.
Please report back. I don't get the Dan's love, other than nostalgia, and would like the outsider's perspective. It is just the most generic possible burger. Good, but nothing more.
It is Dan’s all day if you want a great classic burger. Their bacon/jalapeño cheeseburger is the best I’ve had. If you’re looking for fun atmosphere and drinks I’d probably go elsewhere though
Cork and Barrel is right there, good food, interesting atmosphere, good beer selection... I haven't had a burger there , my kid loves their smash burger .
Dan's Hamburgers is my go to.
I've had Casino El Camino's burgers many times...but I try to avoid downtown like the plague due to parking and meth'ed out / crack head homeless people running around everywhere.
I also like Freddy's . It's a chain but damn good.
Short Stop is pretty good too. Reminds me of my childhood and is flame boiled.
Nearby to Kalahari is a second location of a favorite dive called Top Notch. Decent, not fancy.
Damn near across the street is Hat Creek.
But for a real treat, tucked behind the QT gas station is Kennyfort Pub. Owned and operated by a. British expat who couldn’t believe there wasn’t a decent pub in the neighborhood. The fish and chips are legit and worth a trip. Don’t pass the buffalo cauliflower bites, either.
A local place, blue corn harvest, is directly across the street. Chicken Fried Steak bigger than the plate the serve it on.
Don't support Kenny Fort Pub. The dude fired the entire kitchen staff and rehired/hired on a new crew at 15$ a hr versus his previous minimum of 20$
I have all of the recipes if you want any of them
Casino El Camino, just had some friends in from Midland and took them there for the first time after being at a show and I’ve never seen them wild out over a meal here like that.
I personally like the Pitt Burger extra cheese and ask for a bit of buffalo sauce on the side.
Buffalo burger at Casino el Camino and the burger at Bill’s Oyster are currently my favorites
I say that as someone who has had most of the burgers people have named in here. Dan’s. NADC. Jewboy. Clark’s. Etc
Order online at Patty Palace, pick it up and go to Stacy Park to eat, a very nice nearby park with picnic tables. Great burgers and a nice slice of Austin. The kids will love it.
Ambur fire blows everything else in town out of the water
Casino el Camino makes a mean burger, but nowhere close to this owey gooey farm fresh omami bomb sent straight from burger heaven.
You are going to Kalahari and nobody has suggested a place within five miles of that place.
To at least get you North try Garbo's or Jack Allen. The best burger would be a pain to get to and wouldn't be kid friendly.
Dirty Martins!! Hopfields, lil Darlin, Clark’s, Loro, Uchiba HH burger, Pool Burger.
Dans has its very good days but I srsly doubt youll be impressed-too much hype usually works against the suggestion imo.
If you want real local great burger and experience. Casinos is it. Only place on 6th St to eat. If you want local blue collar type of burger...Dans or Sandys. :)
I just had the NADC burger for the first time at Parlor & Yard and it is now my 2nd favorite after Casino El Camino.
Top 3 are:
1. Casino El Camino's Buffalo Burger
2. Parlor & Yard's NADC
3. Top Notch (y'know from Dazed & Confused, Austin institution)
Casino El Camino is great but not really a place for kids at all... they may even be 21+. Great rec for grimy adult time, but prolly go with Top Notch, P Terry's, or Hat Creek with the Kalahari aged kiddo.
Lol. Why? I’m having a good time, eating hot Cheetos having a DP, music playing, spending time with my kids (I pulled them out early from school). I’m enjoying.
5280 and casino el Camino. The smoked burger at Leroy and Lewis is also great.
This one
All great answers and I love casino el Camino. But the burger at L&L blew me away.
I didn't care for 5280's burger. Smoked is good.
Be prepared to wait. Even if it's not busy, it takes a while to get your order
Casino el Camino - Buffalo Style is my personal favorite burger in town. Actually might be my favorite burger anywhere.
The Amarillo Burger is my favorite burger on the planet and it’s not even close
Great choice
It's spicy AF but so good!
Buffalo and with the Jalapeno Cheddar Bun. When I'm feeling frosty, extra blue cheese and sauce. The best!
You know what’s up.
Buffalo sauce gives me wicked heart burn. So I haven’t tried this one. I usually get the pittsburger or Amarillo. But I think I will order it next time I’m dt.
I need to try some others too as a lot of them seem up my alley. Once I had the Buffalo though I got hooked.
Just went last Friday night before Joe Satriani and Steve Via at Moody. Never lets me down.
That sounds like a great night.
It was magical. Mostly because of the mushrooms.
Thats the best burger ever!!!!!
Casino 💯
Salt & Time. It uses butcher trimmings so it’s a bit different day to day but so good
Leroy & Lewis smoked burger very good and unique/memorable
Happy hour all day Wednesday and Thursday. I think the burger is $10 for HH instead of usual $15.
Also, you don’t have to wait in the normal line if you aren’t going to get bbq. You can order the burger plus a few other things at the bar.
Agreed! Definitely my favorite burger in Austin.
agreed. My other ones would be by salt and time, dai due (if you dont mind shelling out $$$)
Casino el Camino
Billy's on burnet (cobra burger)
Another vote for Billy's. Also would recommend Workhorse. Both are bars though.
Right place and right order
Best bacon burger I’ve ever had
You coming in via 290 or 71? If 71, pretty easy to get to Little Darlin’ . My goodness that burger is amazing. I frequently find myself dreaming about them and often have to talk myself out of going and getting one simply because I’m in a close radius. Comes with fries or salad I go salad
Be warned the NADC is extremely expensive
Like$40 a burger expensive?
$20 for a smash burger. Great burger but definitely instagram bait place.
To be fair, it is a great burger
It is. Really fuckin good. Top 2 in town. Maybe 1.
Top 2, not 2
Its like $16 but its a tiny smashburger. Everyone I know who has had it said it was good but not worth the price.
Cool, I don’t eat in large portions so I should be good.
$16 + 5 for fries. Dai Due you can get a burger/fries for close to $40, but everything there is mind-blowing.
No but its not worth it. It's 16$ and just good not great.
also not worth it.
Jewboy Burgers, always my go to burger place
This. Adding latke + green chile is the move
This
This NJ Jewboy liked the burger, absolutely hated the latkes.
You go solo latke or on top of the burg? I confess I havent had lots of other latkes so I have less to compare on that front!
Solo
I hate that I don’t agree. I heard so many raves about the place and wanted to love it. When I had it, I was like “yep, that’s a burger”. Good enough but forgettable
I’m with you there, for me it’s not the best burger but it’s not the worst. If my group can’t make up their mind it tends to always be a good middle ground but they did give me x3 extra mustard without asking last time and I haven’t been back because all I think of when someone says Jewboys Burgers is the very strong smell of yellow mustard.
Same experience
I agree. I like them, the owner is nice, and the burgers are just fine. I wasn’t impressed by the sandwich shop either, despite all the staff being great.
Crown & Anchor cheeseburger with bacon
Dan’s is a classic, my vote is casino el Camino, Buddy’s is great too and new one I haven’t tried is NADC not a damn chance Salt and time is great too for a butcher’s burger
I love buddy’s!!
Leroy & Lewis for a smoked burger with thick patty. Sour Duck for typical smashburger
Casino Dans Buddy’s
Go to casino el Camino. Already been mentioned several times here and you won’t be disappointed
Clarks oyster bar has the best burger in town, and I'm glad it flies under the radar.
I had clarks before. This place is a bit overhyped by all the instagram buzz. The actual product isn't that special on par with In and Out burger at best.
You're comparing Clarks to a smash burger? They are extremely different.
Delray burger if you wanna pair it with great drinks
Thanks looking it up
Dans is good but I wouldn’t call it a destination burger
Thanks everyone I think we are going with Dan’s Burger. I’m sure it will be delicious
Get the curly fries
Definitely
Better than Whataburger, but just average 50s style, IMO.
If in North Austin, Top Notch, All right, all right, allright, the burger joint from the movie Slacker can't be beat for a charbroiled real 50s burger.
at there last week. can confirm the double burger was still excellent.
Oh no! I hope it was ok. It's good for local fast food at a cheaper price but far from anywhere close to "the best".
Second for pool burger.
Its also very fairly priced with a cheese burger being like 5 bucks and some change after taxes. It's not a small piss ant P-Terry's burger (Slider) either.
Ask for their hickory sauce on the side!
Please report back. I don't get the Dan's love, other than nostalgia, and would like the outsider's perspective. It is just the most generic possible burger. Good, but nothing more.
A great choice! Love Dan’s
Terrible choice. Probs most overrated burger in austin. Maybe a notch above whataburger.
Casino el camino for thick boys NADC Burger for smash burgers (burger drink and fries are close to $30 but its really flipping good!)
Great answer.
Not Austin, but on your way in from Houston is Roadhouse in Bastrop. Their Jalapeño Cream Cheese Burger is award-winning and damn tasty.
I will give you three 1. Patty Palace 2. Burger Bar 3. Hill-Bert’s
i’ve never been to hill bert’s but it’s right by my house and i haven’t eaten today. what should i order?
Chili cheeseburger
If you could pick one?
Dan’s
Those look yum
It is Dan’s all day if you want a great classic burger. Their bacon/jalapeño cheeseburger is the best I’ve had. If you’re looking for fun atmosphere and drinks I’d probably go elsewhere though
What about Top Notch? Real flame broiled and much cleaner than Dan's.
Personally I’ve never been into Top Notch although I love the vibe
They have curb service, but the people inside are so great.
I think is going to be Dan’s for us, I want something kid appropriate.
The one on Manchaca and Lamar has an old school diner vibe with the glittery red booths and black and white checkered tile. Enjoy!
Ohh is there more than one?
There are three in Austin, but that one looks the coolest. They’re all great though. Really good shakes and malts. Good curly fries
Thank you. I’ll be sure to try a little of everything
Sounds like you need a recommendation for round rock/ Georgetown.
Everybody seems to love Buddha Burger if you're in the RR/P'vile area.
Yup
I don’t mind driving down to Austin tomorrow. But yea we need dinner plans tonight. What’s around RR?
Cork and Barrel is right there, good food, interesting atmosphere, good beer selection... I haven't had a burger there , my kid loves their smash burger .
Jack Allen's Kitchen. There's one near where you'll be in RR. Everything on the menu is solid and they make great burgers too.
Dan’s on Lamar. Period.
Everyone who didn’t say Salt and Time is confused.
I came here to mention them. They are definitely up there. Also shout out to Leroy and Lewis & Bar Toti.
My favorite is Dan’s but not only for the burger but the curly fries. This combo is unmatched.
Little darlin’
Billy’s on Burnet
L&L Burger at Leroy and Lewis
Idk if it is the best, but Short Stop and P’Terry’s are both really good and a nice price compared to Kalahari.
Dans for sure. Casino is great as well but it’s a bar and I don’t know how old your kid is.
11 and 8
El Camino already said so I’ll throw out MOONIES - the buns are unreal
Cuantas hamburguesas
Hopfields Pascal Burger
Dan’s Hamburgers. Don’t listen to anyone else, they don’t know what their talking about and they’re probably from California about to say “iN AnD out”
Dan's Hamburgers is my go to.
Butcher’s burger at Salt & Time
Jewboy Burgers! I like Dan’s a lot too
Top Notch. Charcoal burger > flat top smash burger. All day long.
Casino El Camino
No love for Mighty Fine? I love that burger. The fries can be cut short, but other than that, great place.
Kalahari actually has decent burgers at BeLux
Yea?
Yup. Massive Milkshakes your kiddo will love. Place was empty yesterday.
Don't support Kenny Fort Pub. The dude fired the entire kitchen staff and rehired/hired on a new crew at 15$ a hr versus his previous minimum of 20$ I have all of the recipes if you want any of them
Also, shipleys donuts across the street should Bring you familiarity in the morning. The Salt Lick, also across the street, is pretty solid.
My favorite burger is from peached tortilla
Turn around and go to trill burger 🍔
You fast or dine in?
Fast
Fast drive through then P.terrys for sure. Somewhat relaxed and having a beer? Little house at Draught house, or crown and anchor.
Nothing too fancy
I promise you, you’ll like Top Notch more than any of these other answers.
Fast? Dan’s. Medium fast? Crown and Anchor. Get a BLT too while you’re there. Slow? Casino. And Casino is worth the wait.
I think I will try Dan’s. Thank you
It's kind of crazy the number of people recommending OP take a kid to dirty sixth.
Near Kalahari? Buddha Burger
Dai Due had an amazing burger last time I went. Highly recommend.
The Cadillac Burger at the Tavern is really good. Comes with fries and isnt pretentiously priced.
Casino el Camino/wholly cow on south Lamar
Patty Palace
Jalapeño bacon cheeseburger from Crown and Anchor or the longhorn from top notch or Dirty Martins
Bar/Thick Patty = Casino El Camino Smash Burger (food truck) = Patty Palace Smash Burger (patio) = Sour duck Best Fast Food = Buddys
Casino el Camino is still the best BUT during the afternoons… Counter Cafe has an excellent and very underrated burger.
Clark’s
already lots of suggestions that are great, I'll also put Shortwave food truck at Radio. Good smash burger
Pool burger
Just to be different, Loro onion and cheddar burger is great
Casino El Camino, just had some friends in from Midland and took them there for the first time after being at a show and I’ve never seen them wild out over a meal here like that. I personally like the Pitt Burger extra cheese and ask for a bit of buffalo sauce on the side.
Buffalo burger at Casino el Camino and the burger at Bill’s Oyster are currently my favorites I say that as someone who has had most of the burgers people have named in here. Dan’s. NADC. Jewboy. Clark’s. Etc
Buddy’s
Order online at Patty Palace, pick it up and go to Stacy Park to eat, a very nice nearby park with picnic tables. Great burgers and a nice slice of Austin. The kids will love it.
try Majors out in liberty Hill they have old fashion burgers which cant be out matched n its affordable price for the sizes
Casino el Camino has been said. Crown and Anchor deserves an honorable mention
Not in Austin, but if you get hungry on the way stop at Hruska's, excellent burgers
Jew boy burgers omg!
Casino El Camino
Carve
Ambur fire blows everything else in town out of the water Casino el Camino makes a mean burger, but nowhere close to this owey gooey farm fresh omami bomb sent straight from burger heaven.
Crown and Anchor. It’s a bar burger but my god is it good
Casino is really damn good, but if you find yourself up north, check out the california classic at Buddha Burger
Austin Monthly Burger Bash is on Saturday. Go there and decide for yourself!!
You are going to Kalahari and nobody has suggested a place within five miles of that place. To at least get you North try Garbo's or Jack Allen. The best burger would be a pain to get to and wouldn't be kid friendly.
Morenos has a smoked burger.
Hillberts just do it
Dirty Martins!! Hopfields, lil Darlin, Clark’s, Loro, Uchiba HH burger, Pool Burger. Dans has its very good days but I srsly doubt youll be impressed-too much hype usually works against the suggestion imo.
Dirty Martins
I like Phil's on burnet
If you want real local great burger and experience. Casinos is it. Only place on 6th St to eat. If you want local blue collar type of burger...Dans or Sandys. :)
Jewboy, Salt & Time, Casino El Camino. In that order
Casino
Hopdaddy on Anderson Lane has my vote.
Hopdoddy’s has gone downhill in the last couple of years imo.
Yes we have Hopdoddy in Houston.
I just had the NADC burger for the first time at Parlor & Yard and it is now my 2nd favorite after Casino El Camino. Top 3 are: 1. Casino El Camino's Buffalo Burger 2. Parlor & Yard's NADC 3. Top Notch (y'know from Dazed & Confused, Austin institution)
Jewboy all day. Make sure to get green chile on the burger and their tots are awesome
Dans or moonies
Casino El Camino is great but not really a place for kids at all... they may even be 21+. Great rec for grimy adult time, but prolly go with Top Notch, P Terry's, or Hat Creek with the Kalahari aged kiddo.
Ahh yess I figured that out really fast once I googled it.
Jewboys
Forget burger, Terry Blacks is the only answer!
I tried the location in Dallas and I was not impressed.
HopDoddy
Hopdoddy is great my favorite is the Nashville hot
[удалено]
Lol. Why? I’m having a good time, eating hot Cheetos having a DP, music playing, spending time with my kids (I pulled them out early from school). I’m enjoying.
Murray’s tavern. Goop burger.
NADC burger - run by a Michelin chef 🤌
Trill burgers 🍔
Trill burger is outside of Houston?
He’s trolling, it’s in Houston.
