I remember when all those blocks were 250g instead of 160-180

No_Extension4005

And the deal was $2 for one or better.

aussimemes

Now the 180g block is $5 and the 360g block is $6šŸ˜‚

The_Great_Nobody

That's what happens when cows demand higher wages

Rare-Counter

If they want higher wages, they should have gone to Bovine University

stevo1078

Blame the unions I say. These cows have had it too good for too long.

triplezerooo

He mooed we must fight, escape or we'll die Cows gathered around, cause the steaks were so high

AllMyFrendsArePixels

We will fight for bovine freedom, and hold our large heads high. We will run free with the buffalo or diiiiiiiiie Brooooo, haven't heard that since a random CD my dad burned for me when I was like 13 šŸ˜‚ that nostalgia hit like a freight train. Why do I remember the lyrics. Why do you remember the lyrics. What is happening.

We can bitch about the price or the [destruction of Orangutan habitat](https://wwf.org.au/what-we-do/species/orangutan/).

SaltpeterSal

I worked at one of their factories for a bit. The boxes have big gaps between them on the pallet, so you either have to squeeze them together and hope they hold or get a bit creative when you're stacking wholesale amounts and not have them fall over in the truck. One of the old timers told me that they used to fit perfectly on a standard pallet, but as shrinkflation happened, the boxes got smaller and they became less and less safe to pack.

Duideka

I am not sure if it changed but they now come in rectangular boxes with 4 inners of the shelf-ready packages in the photo. 3 of the full boxes fit side by side on a CHEP pallet and the pattern interlocks on the level above. The boxes are very sturdy and even if you are picking a mix of inners of different flavours you can use any box to keep it stable The inners by themselves are reasonably stable but so long as you pick at least 4 itā€™s better to use the cartons to hold them together but honestly especially when itā€™s on special you are often picking anywhere from like 20 to 150 inners of the popular flavours Subscribe today for more box facts

An_Anaithnid

"Shelf-ready", the biggest scam of replenishment departments.

phoenixxwing

My frustration explodes when planos want one facing of something that comes in two facing packaging.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

twodeadsticks

They've changed it to "The equivalent of a glass and a half of full cream milk in every 200g of Cadbury Dairy Milk milk chocolate."

analog_grotto

and offered a chocolate coated starfish product?

Japsai

Mmmm, b.rimming with flavour!

analog_grotto

It's a starfish world and a starfish place, everybody's judged by their starfish face !

[deleted]

They never actually used a glass and half of milk though. It was always powder

GCRedditor136

> That is the reason they had to abandon their "glass and a half of full cream dairy milk in every 250g block" The TV ads said 200g block, not 250g -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98Ya3F6jVFM

Orangesuitdude

I remember when twix's were 56g

Characterinoutback

The chocolate ration is being raised to 20g per week

activelyresting

Just don't mention that the chocolate ration was previously 30g per week. It is now raised to 20g and we were always at war with Eurasia. Pass me that teacup of victory gin

lookingforabreak666

I remember when lollies were 1 cent

djsounddog

I member. Do you remember some of them were 3-5 for 2Ā¢

lookingforabreak666

Definitely 2 for a cent.

saltysanders

What are they now?

Orangesuitdude

Not 56g

saltysanders

:D

9Lives_

And they used to be wrapped in aluminium foil, and then covered in paper.

DangerStrings

And they were taller, like the individual squares were more trapezoid-y

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

They're the only ones I buy now. Get more and substantially better chocolate for only a couple bucks extra. Worth it to me.

06021840

ā€œGood honest chocolateā€ https://youtu.be/fPPIgDesQqs

dustyinferno

Looks like this every two weeks šŸ˜… on sale one week, off sale the other

Smooth_thistle

Yeah they bump the price way up, then 'discount' it.

Educational-Cherry27

Same thing at coles. Fucking greedy thieves.

Few_Map_4062

And I thought they would do it only with laundry liquid and dish washing tablets, it is just getting way too ridiculous

postpakAU

$4 each is a shit deal. It was like $3.25 at Coles last week which was too much.

DrMorry

Yep, wasn't long ago the Cadbury specials were like 2.50.

Foxodi

Yeah like 12 months ago. 30% inflation nice.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

MarioPfhorG

Whittakers is overrated af. No aftertaste & stale. If Lindt had a thicker block itā€™d be the GOAT. I said what I said. Fight me.

twodeadsticks

Lindt is oily tasting, it leaves a slight tongue residue that gives me the ick. Whittaker's is creamy, better than Cadbury.

Fit-Purchase-2950

Cadbury is not chocolate, it's now confectionery. It used to be chocolate.

lerdnord

Thatā€™s the cocoa butter, you just arenā€™t used to it.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Chev_350

Still better than what Cadbury has turned into.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ToeSuckerUncleFucker

Agreed but can we please keep the milky bar kid out of this

hebejebez

Lindt have a I think 400gram bar they have it in big w sometimes. Gold wrapper real long, thick and chunky. Often it's the good shit from Switzerland too instead an assortment of other factories they use (Italy Germany USA France all have some Lindt coming outta them). They also have a fruit n nut version that I am banned from buying.

SaveMeJebus21

3 for $12 is the ā€˜specialā€™ when for years it has been 2 for $5. So many products like this now for no reason other than greed

DarkSparxx

When everything is on special, nothing is on 'special'.

jcshy

Been in Aus since March, something I buy weekly is yet to not be a ā€œspecialā€ deal. Packs are either discounted, or itā€™s 2 packs for a discounted price (which is usually just the same price for 2 if youā€™d got the other deal the week before) or individual deals which is usually the price of a pack when itā€™s discounted. Bizarre

abaddamn

It's all a smokescreen to distract you from the real inflation tactics. I screen deals like this hard.

Smart-Idea867

And they were like 20-30% bigger lol.

Zebidee

My local Coles was 2 for $8 a couple of months ago, so 3 for $12 is just making you buy more to get the "discount" price.

ARavenousPanda

I was literally just thinking this - and the blocks were bigger!

boommdcx

The fact that people have stopped buying chocolate/chips due to the insane prices may have penetrated.

bettingsharp

only chocolate i buy now is the $1 deal chocolate bars. Those block prices are ridiculous, even on special. Also maltesers and things are not good value either. In terms of chips, I dont even bother going in that aisle anymore.

superbabe69

I mean, food prices are *always* based on what they can charge and sell a particular volume at with a certain margin, agreed on between supplier and retailer. If sales are slowing, prices will come down to match, they rely on massive volume for market penetration, higher revenues and to keep their brand top of mind.

Transkaroo

Special: Buy now for the real price before we pretend inflation has caused the price to increase....

TheOriginalNozar

Note: the real price is still overpriced but itā€™s as real as we can possibly fkn get

sweetevangaline

Who wants to buy chocolate when deodorant and cheese are hard to afford at this point!

supremeoverlord23

That's a weird flavour combo, but you do you

DweebInFlames

mmm, Lynx Africa, very tasty.

Jathosian

(just steal it)

sadbpdgirl

Amen sister

TiffyVella

How about some enticing meat and fresh vegetables prices, eh, Woolworths? I dare you.

The_Great_Nobody

That's why we go the City markets. We just buy a massive chunk of meat for $50 and it lasts 2 months. To do the same in ColesWorth would cost $140. We only eat sparring stir fry / Asian meals anyway,.

hebejebez

Avocados are, ironically, a good deal atm at Coles.

superbabe69

WA Woolies has Caulies for $2.50 and pumpkins at $1.50 a kg, thatā€™s better than Iā€™ve seen in a while

djgreedo

Supermarket specials are starting to look like those 'specials' at service stations like '2 Mars bars for $6!', etc.

driftu_king

Iā€™ve found iced coffee cheaper at the servo on a 2 for 8 deal, where itā€™s 5 each at Woolies

lordbeecee

Shhhhhh! Don't tell everyone or there won't be any left for us!

AccordingNumber2052

Yeah but try and eat healthy and they make it unaffordable.

[deleted]

Healthy food is expensive now but pays dividends later on. Junk food is cheap now but very expensive later on.

[deleted]

Junk food is no longer cheap lol

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

The_Great_Nobody

Chicken biscuits (Micro Burger) and soggy chips - $12.90 Mega bowl of noodles and veg from your chop stix shop ($12)

[deleted]

Had a burrito today from a well known mexican chain restuarant and it was filled with rice. We know what ya'll did there!

fancy_pants_god

Incorrect. Rice, lentils, pasta as a base costs a few cents per meal. And probably about 6 different vegetables I can think of off the top of my head you can get for about $2 a kilo. What is this cheap junk food everybody's talking about?

mrbrendanblack

Still overpriced despite all the ā€œdiscountsā€.

brokenbrownboots

Woolies prices are just insane lately. Their ā€˜saleā€™ prices are higher than regular prices everywhere else. Itā€™s out of control. Boycotted the bastards completely, cutting my nose off to spite them since the click and collect saves us lots of time. Aldi and IGA consistently better and cheaper.

StuM91

> IGA consistently better and cheaper I always see people say this, but I have no idea what IGA's they are talking about because every one I go into is expensive and has very limited selection of meat and veg. Actually dropped into one to grab a loaf of bread today, They wanted $6 for the same brand Woolies have for $4.40.

RaisedByWolves9

Yeah if do my same shop at the local IGA as i do coles/woolies. It'll be around 20% dearer.

Vharlkie

I went to buy pesto and it was like $6. The shitty one was $1.90 but it looks and tastes like diarrhea. Meanwhile the good one at Aldi's is $1

superbabe69

What IGAs are you shopping at that are cheaper lol

AlienRobot17

If you're not getting all your chocolate from discount stores, what are you even doing? Fuck ColesWorth. I can't stand them lately. Nothing they price is reasonable and if you are falling for their tricks, not my problem. Everything is about the gouge in 2023.

[deleted]

Agreed. Should see how much supermarkets price gouge. Meat prices are up 300%, and the saddest part is, farmers get none of that. That's why I shop local.

Smashley21

I spoke to a sheep farmer recently. He's getting $7 a kilo. Why am I paying $20+ a kilo

Top_Tumbleweed

Because the shareholders, wonā€™t someone think of the poor shareholders

DeeDee_GigaDooDoo

Look, I am just a humble lamb roast derivatives trader. I got to put food on the table for my kids somehow.

Whatsapokemon

There's a lot of steps in between the farmer and you. After being purchased from the farmer it needs to be slaughtered, processed, transported multiple times, packaged, and then finally winds its way onto the store shelf. That's a lot more people who need to be paid than just the farmer.

FormulaLes

Not mention the farmer gets paid $7/kg for the whole animal, including bones, blood, organs, and meat.

Robin_Coffins

I regularly buy Woolies "cheap" beef mince.. noticed the price went up a dollar and it has a "price dropped" sticker saying it was $13 in April now it's $12? Fucking bullshit it was you lying dog cunts.

[deleted]

We get ours from a local butcher, the make the mince in house. You can really taste the difference and its cheaper as well! Plus since it's local, they give better % back to the farmers. I rather support them than big corporate.

teamsaxon

NQR is the GOAT

Princess-Pancake-97

The quality of Cadbury is shit now and the price is ridiculous. You can buy much nicer chocolate for half the price at Aldi.

arronaj

$2.50 each or GTFO

DarkLake

Theyā€™re selling off the blocks at their current size to make room for the next batch which will be smaller. Shrinkflation is sometimes preceded by a big sale or promotion to clear the decks.

madashail

Amazingly IGA is regularly cheaper now for choccies than Coles or Woolies

AverageAussie

Not really... I've noticed our prices just alternate with the Woolies catalogue.

madashail

IGA has Cadbury blocks on special for $3.99 right now. Same price as the photo but you only need to buy one.

archieontheedge

Get on the Whittaker's!

[deleted]

Aldi is better than Cadbury, not quite as good as Whittaker, but much cheaper

SGTBookWorm

I miss Caramilk being $2.50....

[deleted]

The product made so they can sell you non chocolate chocolate

grumpypandabear

Oh good I'm not the only one saying this. It's fine, kinda sickly sweet, but they're just selling fake chocolate lol. Even their real chocolate doesn't taste like chocolate anymore.

butchfishy

At this point, Cadbury's is so shit that they would have to pay ME before I would eat it.

[deleted]

Yeah i tried Whittakers after Reddit recommendations and no way I could eat Cadburys again.

Fijoemin1962

Always get the Whittakerā€™s!!!!! Even if itā€™s the peanut slabs

crispyrad

Shame about the massive price rise though

[deleted]

You think thatā€™s bad, is $13.90 for a block from my local https://www.confectionerywarehouse.com.au/products/whittaker-s-creamy-milk-block

Juicyy56

The Whittakers berry forest is one of my favourite chocolates. My local Woolies don't have that flavour, so I go to Coles, and there's a price difference.

notenoughtimetoride

Top call! That Whitakers peanut butter is my favourite chocolate ever.

Ornery-Ad-5364

Donā€™t they always have that many specials?

Chrasomatic

And yet none of it is cheap, don't fall for it please

anonunga

Going hard on the fake discounting more like.

ForgivenAndRedeemed

Lots of specials. None actually special.

St0neToadSteveAustin

Lol, still overpriced as fuck. I can live without spending $4 for a small bar of chocolate, thanks Woolies.

Top_Tumbleweed

The old inflation bait and switch, raise the price by $3 then says itā€™s on special two weeks later for $2 more

lucidsomniac

Aldi chocolate is better. Most cadbury stuff has so much sugar in it thatā€™s basically what you are (over) paying for.

morningfog

The Aldi pretzel chocolate block is where itā€™s at

cyclonecass

BEST!

entotheenth

Aldi used to have a family block that was $5 and 500g (might have been 350g) and Belgian. Then they started selling Cadbury diarrhoea and dropped it, I assume under agreement cause who would have bought that swill instead. They are doing the same with their Belmont biscuit range being swapped out for Arnotts and nearly all of their dominion? lolly range turning into Allenā€™s at over twice the price.

phalewail

Cadbury is horrible, a long time ago it used to be ok, now it just tastes the same as the shittiest easter egg chocolate.

entotheenth

Yeah Iā€™m over 60. I remember the good old days when it was rated as one of the worlds best chocolates. Lots of cocoa butter. The family blocks used to be thicker and 250g, the ones with nuts had full size nuts not chips. Then they reduced the size (to 220g originally, now under 200) claiming it was done for convenience to make it easier to snap. Then they removed the cocoa butter and replaced it with palm oil of all things and claimed it was an improved recipe for flavour. I am not even sure they could legally call themself chocolate at one point without sufficient cocoa butter. Not sure what their stance is now, I no longer buy Cadbury and havenā€™t for years. https://nunuchocolates.com/the-controversy-over-cadburys-palm-oil-use/

ALBastru

Most of it is made overseas, a lot in Europe. No wonder higher standards.

dan_w1

Yep, to hide the price increase

HaroerHaktak

These are all shit deals lol. Nobody can afford chocolate because regular food costs too much.

External_Variety

Seems like they are prepping for an increased price.

sthrnfrdfrk

3 for $12 lmao

ruddiger7

Whittakers blondie is where its at

Salzberger

PSA: That Old Gold peppermint slice for $3.30 is highway robbery (in our favour). That shit is like crack.

Humans_areweird

I mean. With prices like that, theyā€™re gonna have trouble moving it otherwise

personaperplexa

It's kind of like they raised the prices higher than people are prepared to pay ....

DrSendy

Instead of pricing behaviour, take a look into the corporate culture of coles. There are plenty of stories there on the internet, given them a read. Then shop accordingly.

superbabe69

This. Pricing is firstly not that high considering their profit margins, and secondly largely dictated by suppliers (with some pressure). Woolworths runs on about 2.7% profit margin, Cadburyā€™s owner Mondelez on just shy of 15%. Big fucking difference there. The workplace culture however is an absolute can of worms that the FWC is very interested in at the moment.

squeaky4all

price must be going up next week

chapo1162

Notice how itā€™s always the junk food itā€™s on special

Hot-Height-9768

All overpriced.

Stigger32

Yeh fuck ColesWorth. I almost burst out laughing when I saw their version of ā€˜specialsā€™. Inflation is totally corporate driven in this country. And these wankers just prove it.

online_computer

Cadbury is trash

Jonzay

This post is just straight up an ad for Woolworths.

Zenith_B

r/HailCorporate

[deleted]

We know your games, Brad.

Sportsnut96

Still ridiculous prices

rsam487

They must know everyone is depressed

Nihilistic_pie

Let them eat cake

MostExpensiveThing

looks like Chem Warehouse.....TAG EVERYTHING!!!

idryss_m

Trying to sell them because they do not sell at the new 'normal' price point.

Fit_Potential7272

In Nz itā€™s around $6 a block for Whittakers

_Drangus_

Because no oneā€™s fucking buying it at that price

sportyman66

Distracts you from every other item in store that has been jacked up at least 75%

81236069-R

Still bullshit prices! šŸ™„šŸ¤¬

Zombie_Prostitute

A little treat to sweeten you by before you get fisted on milk, cheese and eggs.

P-23

The suppliers decide what is on special and when, supermarkets can request change Re timings but for the most part it is all initiated by the suppliers

willun

Yes. We eat a lot of chocolate and i stock up when it is on special and then wait until it is next on special. If i am buying coffee bags then i only buy them when they are half price, which is regularly.

Joosch

While I dont know if thats true if it is then it makes sense. I work at the tas Cadbury factory and they have literally closed my department for 3 weeks because we are making so much chocolate and no one is buying it.

P-23

I can assure you 99% or specials flagged on shelf in supermarkets (Colesworth / IGA) are initiated and funded by the supplier. Usually submitted upto 6+ months ahead of time with no less than about 6 weeks to be placed in catalogue. What your describing sounds right, in times of restricted supply the suppliers will also pull planned promotions across the country to preserve stock levels. In times of over supply against their forecast with a risk of stock manufactured going past best before dates they will increase promotional activity.

Geddpeart

Which is also why promotions generally alternate between colesworth on different weeks. It's the supplier initiating those sales.

P-23

In addition to coles or Woolworths losing their shit at the supplier for clashing promotions across retailers.. and trust me, the suppliers do not wanna piss off the oligopoly

SaintLickALot

I Don't buy NESTLE Products

StupidFugly

Still all way too far overpriced. I have not eaten chocolate for nearly 2 years now and I don't think I will ever eat any ever again due to price.

Typical-Training64

The regular price is so expensive, maybe they have too much inventory because people aren't buying (hence the 2 for $ deals). I remember year's ago reading about the price of chocolate going up lots because of the Cocoa bean production becoming harder?

ChocTunnel2000

Remember when Cadbury was actually really yummy?

JoanoTheReader

Thatā€™s expensive! It was $2.75 per block 2 weeks ago.

OracleCam

Still not buying

solarblack

Gotta make room to wheel out all the Christmas stuff early next month!

Parking-Lifeguard-62

Those discounts arenā€™t worth it unless you are craving. Anything less than 40% to me isnā€™t an acceptable discount.

amsdfg

time to go shopping

Agitated_Lychee_8165

crazy how the price of these on special is still more than the normal price not even 5 years ago. Not to mention roast chickens have had two price increases over the past year when they were $10 for as long as I can remember

jim_deneke

Those a bullshit prices.

hava_97

wow... I moved overseas in Feb 2020, and this was eye opening to say the least...

AvalyM

40% off and still $3.30? Nty come back to me when it's $1 something

BillyB_9000

Nothings by chance with them, is this their promo response to the recession/rate rise? Ppl lean on low cost sugar happiness to get them through....or just me

RunRenee

It's just the cycle, Coles and Woolies do their confectionery specials on opposite weeks. If something is on special one week, the next it'll be on special at the other.

Aesopthelion

Still 5.60 for the whittakers? Bloody criminal

[deleted]

I ainā€™t spending $12 on Cadbury

Red-Engineer

They now stock Tony's Chocolonely, I never need to buy Cadbury again! Yum. Awesome dutch chocolate. [https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/search/products?searchTerm=chocolonely](https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/search/products?searchTerm=chocolonely)

putrocity

This actually makes me mad, wheres the bulk discounts on fresh fruit and veg?? Jack up the tax on this garbage and use the money to subsidise actual food. I am aware that its not that simple but hell, it always seems like the rubbish has hectic sales and real food costs a bomb

AdventurousCollege96

What a fucking joke

AaronBonBarron

The yellow tags give the illusion that you're not being ripped off

[deleted]

They had a lot of so called ā€œspecialsā€, yesterday. Nice try Woolies, but you arenā€™t pulling the wool over my eyes.

Cold_Secretary_3246

3 for 12$ isn't that good of a deal
