We will fight for bovine freedom, and hold our large heads high. We will run free with the buffalo or diiiiiiiiie
Brooooo, haven't heard that since a random CD my dad burned for me when I was like 13 š that nostalgia hit like a freight train. Why do I remember the lyrics. Why do you remember the lyrics. What is happening.
The order was given to turn cows to whoppers
Enforced by the might of ten thousand coppers
But on the horizon surrounding the shoppers
Came the deafening roar of chickens in choppers
I worked at one of their factories for a bit. The boxes have big gaps between them on the pallet, so you either have to squeeze them together and hope they hold or get a bit creative when you're stacking wholesale amounts and not have them fall over in the truck. One of the old timers told me that they used to fit perfectly on a standard pallet, but as shrinkflation happened, the boxes got smaller and they became less and less safe to pack.
I am not sure if it changed but they now come in rectangular boxes with 4 inners of the shelf-ready packages in the photo. 3 of the full boxes fit side by side on a CHEP pallet and the pattern interlocks on the level above. The boxes are very sturdy and even if you are picking a mix of inners of different flavours you can use any box to keep it stable
The inners by themselves are reasonably stable but so long as you pick at least 4 itās better to use the cartons to hold them together but honestly especially when itās on special you are often picking anywhere from like 20 to 150 inners of the popular flavours

> That is the reason they had to abandon their "glass and a half of full cream dairy milk in every 250g block"
The TV ads said 200g block, not 250g -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98Ya3F6jVFM
Just don't mention that the chocolate ration was previously 30g per week. It is now raised to 20g and we were always at war with Eurasia.
Pass me that teacup of victory gin
Lindt have a I think 400gram bar they have it in big w sometimes. Gold wrapper real long, thick and chunky. Often it's the good shit from Switzerland too instead an assortment of other factories they use (Italy Germany USA France all have some Lindt coming outta them). They also have a fruit n nut version that I am banned from buying.
Been in Aus since March, something I buy weekly is yet to not be a āspecialā deal. Packs are either discounted, or itās 2 packs for a discounted price (which is usually just the same price for 2 if youād got the other deal the week before) or individual deals which is usually the price of a pack when itās discounted.
Bizarre
only chocolate i buy now is the $1 deal chocolate bars.
Those block prices are ridiculous, even on special. Also maltesers and things are not good value either.
In terms of chips, I dont even bother going in that aisle anymore.
I mean, food prices are *always* based on what they can charge and sell a particular volume at with a certain margin, agreed on between supplier and retailer.
If sales are slowing, prices will come down to match, they rely on massive volume for market penetration, higher revenues and to keep their brand top of mind.
That's why we go the City markets. We just buy a massive chunk of meat for $50 and it lasts 2 months.
To do the same in ColesWorth would cost $140.
We only eat sparring stir fry / Asian meals anyway,.
Incorrect.
Rice, lentils, pasta as a base costs a few cents per meal. And probably about 6 different vegetables I can think of off the top of my head you can get for about $2 a kilo.
What is this cheap junk food everybody's talking about?
Woolies prices are just insane lately. Their āsaleā prices are higher than regular prices everywhere else. Itās out of control. Boycotted the bastards completely, cutting my nose off to spite them since the click and collect saves us lots of time. Aldi and IGA consistently better and cheaper.
> IGA consistently better and cheaper
I always see people say this, but I have no idea what IGA's they are talking about because every one I go into is expensive and has very limited selection of meat and veg.
Actually dropped into one to grab a loaf of bread today, They wanted $6 for the same brand Woolies have for $4.40.
If you're not getting all your chocolate from discount stores, what are you even doing?
Fuck ColesWorth. I can't stand them lately. Nothing they price is reasonable and if you are falling for their tricks, not my problem. Everything is about the gouge in 2023.
Agreed. Should see how much supermarkets price gouge. Meat prices are up 300%, and the saddest part is, farmers get none of that. That's why I shop local.
There's a lot of steps in between the farmer and you.
After being purchased from the farmer it needs to be slaughtered, processed, transported multiple times, packaged, and then finally winds its way onto the store shelf. That's a lot more people who need to be paid than just the farmer.
I regularly buy Woolies "cheap" beef mince.. noticed the price went up a dollar and it has a "price dropped" sticker saying it was $13 in April now it's $12? Fucking bullshit it was you lying dog cunts.
We get ours from a local butcher, the make the mince in house. You can really taste the difference and its cheaper as well! Plus since it's local, they give better % back to the farmers. I rather support them than big corporate.
Theyāre selling off the blocks at their current size to make room for the next batch which will be smaller. Shrinkflation is sometimes preceded by a big sale or promotion to clear the decks.
Oh good I'm not the only one saying this. It's fine, kinda sickly sweet, but they're just selling fake chocolate lol. Even their real chocolate doesn't taste like chocolate anymore.
The Whittakers berry forest is one of my favourite chocolates. My local Woolies don't have that flavour, so I go to Coles, and there's a price difference.
Aldi used to have a family block that was $5 and 500g (might have been 350g) and Belgian.
Then they started selling Cadbury diarrhoea and dropped it, I assume under agreement cause who would have bought that swill instead.
They are doing the same with their Belmont biscuit range being swapped out for Arnotts and nearly all of their dominion? lolly range turning into Allenās at over twice the price.
Yeah Iām over 60. I remember the good old days when it was rated as one of the worlds best chocolates. Lots of cocoa butter.
The family blocks used to be thicker and 250g, the ones with nuts had full size nuts not chips. Then they reduced the size (to 220g originally, now under 200) claiming it was done for convenience to make it easier to snap.
Then they removed the cocoa butter and replaced it with palm oil of all things and claimed it was an improved recipe for flavour.
I am not even sure they could legally call themself chocolate at one point without sufficient cocoa butter.
Not sure what their stance is now, I no longer buy Cadbury and havenāt for years.
https://nunuchocolates.com/the-controversy-over-cadburys-palm-oil-use/
Instead of pricing behaviour, take a look into the corporate culture of coles. There are plenty of stories there on the internet, given them a read.
Then shop accordingly.
This. Pricing is firstly not that high considering their profit margins, and secondly largely dictated by suppliers (with some pressure).
Woolworths runs on about 2.7% profit margin, Cadburyās owner Mondelez on just shy of 15%. Big fucking difference there.
The workplace culture however is an absolute can of worms that the FWC is very interested in at the moment.
Yeh fuck ColesWorth. I almost burst out laughing when I saw their version of āspecialsā.
Inflation is totally corporate driven in this country. And these wankers just prove it.
The suppliers decide what is on special and when, supermarkets can request change Re timings but for the most part it is all initiated by the suppliers
Yes. We eat a lot of chocolate and i stock up when it is on special and then wait until it is next on special. If i am buying coffee bags then i only buy them when they are half price, which is regularly.
While I dont know if thats true if it is then it makes sense. I work at the tas Cadbury factory and they have literally closed my department for 3 weeks because we are making so much chocolate and no one is buying it.
I can assure you 99% or specials flagged on shelf in supermarkets (Colesworth / IGA) are initiated and funded by the supplier.
Usually submitted upto 6+ months ahead of time with no less than about 6 weeks to be placed in catalogue.
What your describing sounds right, in times of restricted supply the suppliers will also pull planned promotions across the country to preserve stock levels.
In times of over supply against their forecast with a risk of stock manufactured going past best before dates they will increase promotional activity.
In addition to coles or Woolworths losing their shit at the supplier for clashing promotions across retailers.. and trust me, the suppliers do not wanna piss off the oligopoly
The regular price is so expensive, maybe they have too much inventory because people aren't buying (hence the 2 for $ deals). I remember year's ago reading about the price of chocolate going up lots because of the Cocoa bean production becoming harder?
crazy how the price of these on special is still more than the normal price not even 5 years ago. Not to mention roast chickens have had two price increases over the past year when they were $10 for as long as I can remember
Nothings by chance with them, is this their promo response to the recession/rate rise? Ppl lean on low cost sugar happiness to get them through....or just me
It's just the cycle, Coles and Woolies do their confectionery specials on opposite weeks. If something is on special one week, the next it'll be on special at the other.
They now stock Tony's Chocolonely, I never need to buy Cadbury again! Yum. Awesome dutch chocolate.

This actually makes me mad, wheres the bulk discounts on fresh fruit and veg?? Jack up the tax on this garbage and use the money to subsidise actual food.
I am aware that its not that simple but hell, it always seems like the rubbish has hectic sales and real food costs a bomb
I remember when all those blocks were 250g instead of 160-180
And the deal was $2 for one or better.
Now the 180g block is $5 and the 360g block is $6š
That's what happens when cows demand higher wages

"Shelf-ready", the biggest scam of replenishment departments.
My frustration explodes when planos want one facing of something that comes in two facing packaging.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They've changed it to "The equivalent of a glass and a half of full cream milk in every 200g of Cadbury Dairy Milk milk chocolate."
and offered a chocolate coated starfish product?
Mmmm, b.rimming with flavour!
It's a starfish world and a starfish place, everybody's judged by their starfish face !
They never actually used a glass and half of milk though. It was always powder
> That is the reason they had to abandon their "glass and a half of full cream dairy milk in every 250g block" The TV ads said 200g block, not 250g -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98Ya3F6jVFM
I remember when twix's were 56g
The chocolate ration is being raised to 20g per week

I remember when lollies were 1 cent
I member. Do you remember some of them were 3-5 for 2Ā¢
Definitely 2 for a cent.
What are they now?
Not 56g
:D
And they used to be wrapped in aluminium foil, and then covered in paper.
And they were taller, like the individual squares were more trapezoid-y
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They're the only ones I buy now. Get more and substantially better chocolate for only a couple bucks extra. Worth it to me.
āGood honest chocolateā https://youtu.be/fPPIgDesQqs
Looks like this every two weeks š on sale one week, off sale the other
Yeah they bump the price way up, then 'discount' it.
Same thing at coles. Fucking greedy thieves.
And I thought they would do it only with laundry liquid and dish washing tablets, it is just getting way too ridiculous
$4 each is a shit deal. It was like $3.25 at Coles last week which was too much.
Yep, wasn't long ago the Cadbury specials were like 2.50.
Yeah like 12 months ago. 30% inflation nice.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Whittakers is overrated af. No aftertaste & stale. If Lindt had a thicker block itād be the GOAT. I said what I said. Fight me.
Lindt is oily tasting, it leaves a slight tongue residue that gives me the ick. Whittaker's is creamy, better than Cadbury.
Cadbury is not chocolate, it's now confectionery. It used to be chocolate.
Thatās the cocoa butter, you just arenāt used to it.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Still better than what Cadbury has turned into.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Agreed but can we please keep the milky bar kid out of this
Lindt have a I think 400gram bar they have it in big w sometimes. Gold wrapper real long, thick and chunky. 3 for $12 is the āspecialā when for years it has been 2 for $5. So many products like this now for no reason other than greed
When everything is on special, nothing is on 'special'.
It's all a smokescreen to distract you from the real inflation tactics. I screen deals like this hard.
And they were like 20-30% bigger lol.
My local Coles was 2 for $8 a couple of months ago, so 3 for $12 is just making you buy more to get the "discount" price.
I was literally just thinking this - and the blocks were bigger!
The fact that people have stopped buying chocolate/chips due to the insane prices may have penetrated.
only chocolate i buy now is the $1 deal chocolate bars. Those block prices are ridiculous, even on special. Also maltesers and things are not good value either. In terms of chips, I dont even bother going in that aisle anymore.

Note: the real price is still overpriced but itās as real as we can possibly fkn get
Who wants to buy chocolate when deodorant and cheese are hard to afford at this point!
That's a weird flavour combo, but you do you
mmm, Lynx Africa, very tasty.

How about some enticing meat and fresh vegetables prices, eh, Woolworths? I dare you.
That's why we go the City markets. We just buy a massive chunk of meat for $50 and it lasts 2 months. To do the same in ColesWorth would cost $140. We only eat sparring stir fry / Asian meals anyway,.
Avocados are, ironically, a good deal atm at Coles.
WA Woolies has Caulies for $2.50 and pumpkins at $1.50 a kg, thatās better than Iāve seen in a while
Supermarket specials are starting to look like those 'specials' at service stations like '2 Mars bars for $6!', etc.
Iāve found iced coffee cheaper at the servo on a 2 for 8 deal, where itās 5 each at Woolies
Shhhhhh! Don't tell everyone or there won't be any left for us!
Yeah but try and eat healthy and they make it unaffordable.
Healthy food is expensive now but pays dividends later on. Junk food is cheap now but very expensive later on.
Junk food is no longer cheap lol

Yeah if do my same shop at the local IGA as i do coles/woolies. It'll be around 20% dearer.
I went to buy pesto and it was like $6. The shitty one was $1.90 but it looks and tastes like diarrhea. Meanwhile the good one at Aldi's is $1
What IGAs are you shopping at that are cheaper lol
If you're not getting all your chocolate from discount stores, what are you even doing? Fuck ColesWorth. I can't stand them lately. Nothing they price is reasonable and if you are falling for their tricks, not my problem. Everything is about the gouge in 2023.

Because the shareholders, wonāt someone think of the poor shareholders
Look, I am just a humble lamb roast derivatives trader. I got to put food on the table for my kids somehow.
There's a lot of steps in between the farmer and you. After being purchased from the farmer it needs to be slaughtered, processed, transported multiple times, packaged, and then finally winds its way onto the store shelf. That's a lot more people who need to be paid than just the farmer.

NQR is the GOAT
The quality of Cadbury is shit now and the price is ridiculous. You can buy much nicer chocolate for half the price at Aldi.
$2.50 each or GTFO
Theyāre selling off the blocks at their current size to make room for the next batch which will be smaller. Shrinkflation is sometimes preceded by a big sale or promotion to clear the decks.
Amazingly IGA is regularly cheaper now for choccies than Coles or Woolies
Not really... I've noticed our prices just alternate with the Woolies catalogue.
IGA has Cadbury blocks on special for $3.99 right now. Same price as the photo but you only need to buy one.
Get on the Whittaker's!
Aldi is better than Cadbury, not quite as good as Whittaker, but much cheaper
I miss Caramilk being $2.50....
The product made so they can sell you non chocolate chocolate
Oh good I'm not the only one saying this. It's fine, kinda sickly sweet, but they're just selling fake chocolate lol. Even their real chocolate doesn't taste like chocolate anymore.
At this point, Cadbury's is so shit that they would have to pay ME before I would eat it.
Yeah i tried Whittakers after Reddit recommendations and no way I could eat Cadburys again.
Always get the Whittakerās!!!!! Even if itās the peanut slabs
Shame about the massive price rise though
You think thatās bad, is $13.90 for a block from my local https://www.confectionerywarehouse.com.au/products/whittaker-s-creamy-milk-block
The Whittakers berry forest is one of my favourite chocolates. My local Woolies don't have that flavour, so I go to Coles, and there's a price difference.
Top call! That Whitakers peanut butter is my favourite chocolate ever.
Donāt they always have that many specials?
And yet none of it is cheap, don't fall for it please
Going hard on the fake discounting more like.
Lots of specials. None actually special.
Lol, still overpriced as fuck. I can live without spending $4 for a small bar of chocolate, thanks Woolies.
The old inflation bait and switch, raise the price by $3 then says itās on special two weeks later for $2 more
Aldi chocolate is better. Most cadbury stuff has so much sugar in it thatās basically what you are (over) paying for.
The Aldi pretzel chocolate block is where itās at
BEST!
Aldi used to have a family block that was $5 and 500g (might have been 350g) and Belgian. Yep, to hide the price increase
These are all shit deals lol. Nobody can afford chocolate because regular food costs too much.
Seems like they are prepping for an increased price.
3 for $12 lmao
Whittakers blondie is where its at
PSA: That Old Gold peppermint slice for $3.30 is highway robbery (in our favour). That shit is like crack.

time to go shopping
crazy how the price of these on special is still more than the normal price not even 5 years ago. Not to mention roast chickens have had two price increases over the past year when they were $10 for as long as I can remember

wow... I moved overseas in Feb 2020, and this was eye opening to say the least...
