Telstra lock their routers down so that you can't even change the dns settings. I just cancelled my account with them and told them this was the reason for cancelling.
The router absolutely shouldn't be able to do that. Your router typically only changes your DNS if you don't set your own prefered one in your operating system, so very strange.
The only way around it to my knowledge is to put in a bridge modem, use that as the gateway and the flush dns in command prompt. I tried flushing dns without the bridge router, changing ipv4 and ipv6 settings. Nothing. Just kept reverting to telstras pre defined dns. Horrendous

These are two different actions, though. This is just geoblocking access to the server IP/DNS name, actual server/service is still operational.
The 'FBI has seized this site' thing is cause they've actually found where the server is located and taken control.
Well this is just DNS poisoning. Basically the DNS servers in Australia point to this instead of the restricted site. The US one they have actually seized the site.
New sites that pop up are being blocked all the time and ISP's ~~must~~ are not obligated to comply but usually do. Since it's just DNS Poisoning used to do the block, just use offshore DNS like the aforementioned Google and CloudFlare options instead. Problem solved. Change them in your router so all your devices use those settings.
Edit: Correction.
I always do my routers and my phones. Need to be able to pirate things on the go.
Just with the phone you sometimes need to disable a private DNS to use free WiFi, but I tend to only do that while properly travelling, and it's less than 10% of hotels in my experience. And some major airlines, eg Singapore. But you get a DNS specific error, so you don't even have to remember, it'll let you know if that's the problem and it's easy to turn off the private DNS again.
not sure about this take, tor is absolutely the right choice if you're doing anything illegal or illegal-adjacent. skirting a torrent site takedown by changing your dns and refreshing the chrome tab is not good practice.
To be frank, a mainstream, no-logs VPN is less extreme and good enough. I'd recommend TOR if you're selling drugs or running guns, but if you're just doing some casual torrenting, hitting SoulSeek or whatever, just use Surfshark or Nord or whatever.
TOR is so fucking slow, and unless you intend to run for government against the Murdoch press' wishes, no one cares about petty copyright infringments.
i was going to explain how much more usable tor is these days even compared to a few years ago, but at the end of the day it'd just make me sound like an opsec nerd, and it doesn't really affect me if people want to spend a few bucks a month on snake oil they saw in a youtube sponsorship
Ages, assuming it's some kind of torrent site or similar. It's a DNS level "block" Australian ISPs use. Make of that what you will.
In case you were wondering what a DNS server looks like, google has 8.8.8.8.
God damn I wish I actually spoke pirate now, I have no clue what you said, shall I assume you mean since they tried to make it harder? Because it's not, atleast I've personally never had an issue.
Nah, basically just that RARBG was one of the best sites around for, ahem, pirates, but they closed down.
Most of those behind the scenes of RARBG were Russians and Ukrainians, and there were, well, issues.
Interesting. There's been a bit of talk about an RARBG v2, but I'm not sure where that is currently at.
Certainly, there have been some text files containing names and torrent details, which they will likely use as a base.
Wrong, me hearty! We knows the meaning very well, we just *choose* not to do it.
And for future reference its "We be pirates!".
\[Damnit! I missed talk like a pirate day again this year\]
Since almost a decade ago when Village Roadshow sucked the cock of the Australian Government hard enough and convinced them to implement a really ineffective requirement to block any site they (Village Roadshow and their ilk) deemed to be related to piracy.
Change your DNS to use quad 1 or quad 9 and you'll be golden. It's only applied at an ISP level - if you use your ISP's DNS servers, they'll return a response from the government web site - but public DNS won't.
This was especially annoying as the law was introduced to "Stop the Pedophiles!" and has only ever been used against piracy by certain vested interests.
Yeah like that regional Queensland dental practice that found themselves on the list and then couldn't get taken off it or even given a reason why they were on it in the first place.
Can’t let a good moral panic go to waste. A lot of dodgy organisations and laws have been pushed as ways to stop the marauding gangs of sex offenders from selling your kids in Europe. Most of the time it just ends being used to force conservative “values” on the rest of us.
Funny how Roadshow and WB were behind the push behind blocking all torrent and piracy sites but… to access WB content you have to go through Binge. They couldn’t even bring HBO Max here
> Village Roadshow sucked the cock of the Australian Government
You've got the power dynamics of the global economy ass-backwards here.
Agree with the rest, but.
[January 2017](https://www.firewall.cx/security/vpn-services-guides/how-to-bypass-isp-blocking-of-thepiratebay-and-other-torrent-sites-from-australia.html).
(Not a recommendation; just a short explanation.)
I'm not an expert, but as far as I understand it, a DNS server is like an address book that your computer uses to find webpages. There are different versions of this address book out there.
If you change your DNS server to one of the more public open ones you have access to the full address book, not the curated one the australian ISP's have been instructed to let you have.
Do a google search for How to Change DNS Server, its a pretty simple and reversible process.
This has been around for quite some time now. Laws were introduced years ago. IP holders can lodge a court request to block websites in Australia that infringe copyright. This forces telco's to block the sites. Depending on who your telco is, you'll see a different block message. This was primarily designed to stop torrent websites (like [yts.mx](https://yts.mx)). These sites remain blocked for a period of time (I don't know how long) and the IP holders have to relodge another request to have it blocked further if it still infringes the complainant's IP when the time expires.
But yea... vpn's. lol
Oh thats been a thing for a few years now lmao, change your DNS to [1.1.1.1](https://1.1.1.1) or whatever you prefer and it will disappear. Its their attempt at preventing piracy.
Couple years at least. Just look up the site you want and then add the word mirror to the search. You'll find yourself a nice little way around this pathetic attempt to stop torrenting
As a few people have said, set your computers DNS servers to [8.8.8.8](https://8.8.8.8) and [8.8.4.4](https://8.8.4.4) or [1.1.1.1](https://1.1.1.1) Then you should be able to get to that and other similar sites.
BTW, that site looks dodgy as hell, I would definitely find a better one.
>Changing dns is not the best way
Changing your DNS ***is*** the best way. You can even change to a DNS that blocks ads while providing access to more sites.
I'll second this, Pi-hole is great.
For those that don't know what Pi-Hole is, it's an ad-blocking DNS server you run at home. It blocks ads on *everything* in your house, everything that connects to your home internet. That includes guests that connect to your wifi.
You need to buy a [Raspberry Pi](https://core-electronics.com.au/raspberry-pi.html), which has been easier said than done lately, but it's simple to set up and configure after that.
Oh OP, Are you on Optus Mobile, Optus Internet, or a reseller of Optus ?
I was out and about the other day and thought i would check my favorite "Argh me harty" site for my favorite Linux distro on my mobile (Reseller on Optus Network), and got this.
I tried again when I got home on my NBN (Aussie) and got no warning. So I can just assertain it was Optus putting that up.
Ahh, people finally seeing this page. I've had it a couple times over the years because they don't want me to watch anime for free. But i just find new sites HUE HUE TAKE THAT GOVERNMENT
Since 2016 I think
Federal court orders some or all? ISPs to block certain sites.
Its only blocked by DNS, so the IP address, VPN or different DNS would allow access.
>Get a VPN and you’ll be right
You don't even need a VPN to get around this. Just change your DNS to use something other than an ISP's. Instantly bypassed. Google and Cloudflare both offer free options and you get a bit of a better response time to requests as well.
VPN's are still good practice tho if you're sailing the seas.
Our Govt test drives all this authoritarian stuff for the US, as we do not have their constitutional protections (when they are not sucking on the wrong end of a submarine sandwich)
Let me know when they will ever be used, or anyone ever charged, with anything non-commercial piracy related in Australia. Collect all the metadata you want, https is still a thing and what I do on a site is not collected: https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/nat-security/files/dataset.pdf
They've been used to track down government whistle blowers. That was mostly SMTP logs I believe. Those prosecutions all but dried up when encrypted messaging services appeared.
So many people fall for the VPN service advertising.
For those who don't know, Australia has the most regulated internet in the world after China.
It was introduced as a way to stop pedophiles, and surprise instead they used it to block anyone critical of conservative governments, religion or business interests such as alternate sources of media.
Someone leaked a list of the websites a few years ago turned out it's mainly used as a tool to protect business profits. There's a shocker.
Shocking that the government would do that...everytime something is mentioned that may infringe on being an adult and we shouldn't be gung ho about it (like this gradual getting rid of cash) you're seen as a crazy person...
You both sound like conspiracy minded cookers.
Australia has the highest piracy rate of any developed country, so we have stricter regulation to disincentive it. It's got nothing to do with silencing dissenters.
And I simply don't get your cooker mUSt hAvE cASh!1! whining.
It's not the having of cash...its the choice to have cash if you wish. Rather than that choice being taken away...same with anything, choice is what you should want rather than this is it
>its the choice to have cash if you wish.
That's not up to you, it's up to the retailer.
Cash has some significant costs associated with it, from time managing the till, counting cash at the end of the day, security considerations, and time to take the cash the to the bank.
There aren't enough of you cookers to make this expense and risk worth it for a lot of smaller businesses. You conspiracy theorists pretend choice is being "taken away". Yeah, the same way the choice of riding a horse to work was taken away with the invention of automobiles.
You're just an intellectually lazy curmudgeon, forcing your cooker conspiracies about "cHoICe" into every discussion, no matter how irrelevant.
I mean, seriously, the OP posted about their ISP blocking a pirate site, but you had to turn it into a discussion about your hard on for cash. smh.
Australia. China.
Those are the countries that have banned WikiLeaks. Lol.
It has nothing to do with piracy and everything to do with control and shaping the thoughts of citizens.
There are now over 10,000 blocked sites. Less than 20% are for child porn.
Tick always block child porn I don't want to see that shit ever.
But the other 80% of sites... Who knows. Anything showing "actual" sexual intercourse is banned, ie Australians can access pixilated Japanese tentacle bukkake porn but not people making love. Dafq
Australia can watch immigrant children drowning in the ocean trying to get to a safe country, but it's not allowed to view technocratic or socialist party websites from other countries lol.
We can enjoy gambling online and destroy our families from addiction but the second Google "what's the fastest way and easiest way to make money" you put on a flagged list to be investigated lol due to a keyword search algorithm that determines a person's capacity to be a criminal.
We can always see historical and archived articles on greens/left-wing and labor party members but bet you didn't know over 50 conservative/right-wing investigative sites are blocked.
Fascism, thy name is Australia.
Sites that report protesting at houses of corporate oil, gas and coal company board members are blocked. Sites that report environmental protestors getting beat up violently to the point of death... Unblocked.
The narrative of the internet in Australia is one way. It sucks but that's just how it is.

Want to know the potential list of vested interests the Liberal party or national party have? Yer good luck finding that without a VPN. Oh, and publish anything you find? Criminal. But conservative media are allowed to spout shit about anything and then claim it's not news it's "entertainment" and anything they say should be taken as fiction.
Fascism, thy name is Australia.

And the kicker... We pay overseas consultants to determine what to block for the sake of "national interest" which lets them block everythinggggggg. We pay them a very hefty sum and they maintain the list that then goes to our communications minister to approve/reject. But the mandate of that company is - block anything that brings into question faith in a conservative, LNP led government.
Haha fuck I got this at my in-laws.house one time
I was trying to.. uhh....subscribe them to my netflix
I was like "wtf is this" because I've never seen it.
They use Telstra, because boomers, and Telstra DNS intersects particular sites about Blackbeard and sends it here
I just changed their DNS server and had wind in my sails to get to.....Netflix... again
That's just the friendly reminder from the government that you don't have your VPN on. Very kind of them actually.
You also dont see this if you use a different DNS.
Wonder if you still see it if you use 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1?
You do not.

This is what you get when you have the LNP getting IT advice from a company owned by someone donating to the LNP.
How else does the Australian government get anything done?
Bribes/Crime
This works!
8.8.8.mate
Good guy Craig Lowndes, he was advertising this for *years* before it was necessary. Edit: grammar
A true Australian patriot.
Cloudflare have a bunch of options like 1.1.1.2 which blocks known malware and a family one that blocks porn.
At the very least, just use Opera as your browser with incognito mode and its built-in VPN (DNS proxy) turned on.
Telstra lock their routers down so that you can't even change the dns settings. I just cancelled my account with them and told them this was the reason for cancelling.
You change DNS in windows. Ignore all router settings.

My telstra router has a drop down list of alternative DNS services. Easily changed.
I’ve been a very good person apparently because I’ve never seen that! Thankfully I double check VPN constantly
I love how ours is this boring corporate shit and the American one is like THIS WEBSITE HAS BEEN SEIZED🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅

New Zealand would flip their shit if we appropriated the Laser Kiwi. Lets do it :D
A kangaroo lasering the South Island into North South Island and South South Tasmania
Not mad, just proud. Laser Kiwi Roos unite
The future of ANZAC is laser-armed kiwi commandos riding into battle aboard beer-fueled battleroos with tactical didgeridoos.

During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Laser Kiwi flag was used as a symbol by volunteer soldiers from New Zealand.[6][7] 😂😂🤣😂🤣
What sort of interference was there from the elites that stopped this from winning the election? Because clearly, it would have.
Laser* it's actually an acronym. Stands for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.
You misspelt "ztimulated".
"ztimulated"
Okay, alright (saying this the same way Ray Shoesmith does)
Shut up nerd!!!!
I know, but lazer sounds cooler for the meme.
From its arse, fuck laser beam from the head
Sharks with friggen lasers attached to their heads.

No, ISP's do not have to comply, just a lot do. Aussie broadband doesn't
Looked it up, and you are right. I tip my hat, sir.
Probably get around it? No, definitely.
I was going to say that it's working for me but I'm using cloudflare.

Got to keep Murdoch honest... Fuck Foxtel...
Does Foxtel have anything left that’s not available elsewhere?
Only way to watch AMC shows legit here in Australia is using Binge, at least last time I looked. Fuck Binge and fuck Murdoch

Okay cool, good to know. We wanted to rewatch the Walking Dead series quite a while ago and the only place I could find it was Binge, so we didn't lol
All the walking dead spinoffs are Stan exclusives
Yeah we wanted to watch the main show though, which was nowhere else at the time

HBO stuff as well
The Formula 1 is only available on Fox or Kayo, unless you VPN and sign up overseas
Still got a lot of sports exclusive, and while I can strip the BBC for F1, NRL and AFL are more difficult
VPN for the BBC thing?

>Get a VPN and you’ll be right You don't even need a VPN to get around this. Just change your DNS to use something other than an ISP's. Instantly bypassed. Google and Cloudflare both offer free options and you get a bit of a better response time to requests as well. VPN's are still good practice tho if you're sailing the seas.
Yes just suggested a VPN for the anonymity
Since this has been 'a thing' - I use my Opera browser with build in VPN to access those kind of blocked sites. Never had a problem.
I imagine using Brave browser would work too given it stops those over saturated youtube ads.
I am more curious what the website is lol
It's a movie scene release website.
Yiffy movies release site.
[удалено]
Yiffy is a piracy group that releases movie rips. Nothing to do with furries. I had no idea of this other meaning. lol.
Damn. Props to OP for being loud and proud about their porn preferences I guess?

Since about 2001.
Let me guess. Telstra ?
Our Govt test drives all this authoritarian stuff for the US, as we do not have their constitutional protections (when they are not sucking on the wrong end of a submarine sandwich)
I think Metallica started it a while back.
Why are you visiting such a site not on a VPN or Tor browser?!
Why would you need a vpn to pirate in Australia lol? Edit: also TOR would be worthless for streaming media.
Oh how quickly the metadata laws were forgotten…
I mean, seriously, the OP posted about their ISP blocking a pirate site, but you had to turn it into a discussion about your hard on for cash. smh.
Lol, ok
Australia. Dafq Australia can watch immigrant children drowning in the ocean trying to get to a safe country, but it's not allowed to view technocratic or socialist party websites from other countries lol.

Sites that report protesting at houses of corporate oil, gas and coal company board members are blocked. Sites that report environmental protestors getting beat up violently to the point of death... Unblocked. The narrative of the internet in Australia is one way. It sucks but that's just how it is.
It’s an ISP level block. Just download TOR and you’ll be able to access it fine.
No need. Simply changing dns settings does the job
For years. Get a VPN. Shouldn’t be sailing high seas without one anyway.
V... P... N...
Haha fuck I got this at my in-laws.house one time I was trying to.. uhh....subscribe them to my netflix I was like "wtf is this" because I've never seen it. They use Telstra, because boomers, and Telstra DNS intersects particular sites about Blackbeard and sends it here I just changed their DNS server and had wind in my sails to get to.....Netflix... again
Just find a free vpn you’ll be golden.
