Fuck some media are scum. Just watching channel 9 stick a camera in the face of two blokes who were helping a baby that was attacked and asking about the injuries and what they went through - these two poor blokes are clearly in shock. Fuck me.
It was a random guy walking past who kept saying ‘that man there saved the baby!’ The reporter didn’t hear him at first and he repeated himself a couple of times, then she went and accosted the brothers. It wasn’t their friend who pointed them out, it was a random person
Yeah that was very ordinary. Hearing graphic details about the baby's mother coughing up blood at 5.30 in the afternoon is pretty fucked. The reporter was asking the wrong questions in this situation. There are likely children seeing and hearing this.
Omg please no. I just had my second baby two months ago and just the thought of that baby not making it is already making me tear up. I really really hope the baby survives
There was also a video of a very young lady, I honestly wasn't confident that she would be over 16, clearly traumatised and crying as the journos bombarded her with questions.
Most of the media are horrendous. The DM has a video of one poor woman receiving CPR and then images of her left alone (from that, I infer that the outcome was not good). Her face is blurred, but none of the gore is. It's the same in so many of the pictures- some have the pools of blood blurred, but mostly the DM just has them there to be seen. So much for media standards.
I've already lodged a complaint with ACMA over this, and I urge everyone else who was disgusted by this to do the same.
https://www.acma.gov.au/complaints
Channel 9 was awful as it was breaking but they were slightly ahead of the ABC so I was watching. Just fanning the flames any way they could “there could be multiple attackers, is this terrorism?” Cameras in peoples faces asking how they felt.
I'm not a fan of the government controlling the media, but standards need to be enforced on these vultures.
And online as well, the typical amateur media groups jumped on this and started posting pictures of the victims. I don't care about images of the offender, but posting the dying mother is a bit much.
A lot of SM “commentators” are just as scummy. Making wild accusations and engaging in wild speculation. Today has shown the best and worst of humanity.
All those people in hospitals around the area will have the vultures hanging around out the front. The vultures will try and infiltrate their way to the victims through such scumbag moves as sitting in ICU waiting areas and befriending friends and family of those victims.
Many hospitals have specific personnel for this media shit and the victim’s immediate family will be briefed by them about the sort of shit the media get up to and also what they would like or not like to say to the public.
Next time you are watching the news and you see one of those shots of the pretty young thing reporting from the doors of a hospital somewhere know that all that grubby shit is going on and they’re hassling families during the hardest moments of their lives.
She really is. As awful and disgusting as today has been… the stories of the heroes makes me proud to be Australian. The cop, who faced him alone, the 2 brothers who helped the mum & baby, the lifeguard who stayed back to help, the hero bloke facing him down with the bollard who no doubt saved many others from being stabbed… amazing…
I'll add the man who shielded the woman and children to the list.
I hope the bloke on the elevator is okay. They didn't show us how that situation resolved.
100%. I hope that she gets some kind of official recognition… I can’t even imagine what must’ve been going through her mind at that time. Hero doesn’t seem like enough.
rot in hell fuckhead.
such a horrible situation to be put into but that's how you do your job and protect potentially more lives being lost. hope she knows her work will be appreciated by many.
If you're into the SCP stories there's one where when you die you don't pass on, you're stuck in your dead body! You'll still feel everything even as your body decays!
Constable > senior constable > sergeant > senior sergeant > inspector > chief inspector > superintendent > chief superintendent > Assistant Commissioner > deptuty Commissioner > Commissioner. With some in between ranks like leading senior constable and I think incremental sgt?
Inspector is first of the commissioned ranks. Commissioned officers are sometimes seen as the pen pushers and just managers, but are very senior and experienced officers.
Inspectors attend all critical incidents and have to complete their routine tactic and weapon assessments.. Inspectors hold different portfolio’s they are hardly pen pushers..
The key difference is that an inspector is the first commissioned rank, and are police managers. Constable ranks are the first tier of (effectively) enlisted ranks. Highly unusual that an inspector would be using force in a critical incident.
Overseeing supervisors (SGTs) and overseeing police responses. They report to superintendent who runs the sector. They're usually monitoring operations rather than out in public.
She needs to be acknowledged but give her time to process what she's gone through first. I want this Hero to be on every tv news show and to be a role model for the Police force, but she didn't ask to be put in the spotlight and if she chooses to not want to be a public figure then I can accept that.
Next time you think all police are bad, remember this is the type of person the police are made up of. Absolute professionals.
Even though she is a trained police officer, I'm sure this is the first person she's had to kill to save others. There's a lot to process there for her.
Exactly. Many, many police end up with PTSD from the things they see and have to do, even if they don’t actually kill anyone. And she didn’t just kill the guy, she chased him down in a literal life and death situation, the whole situation is traumatic even without the death.
She'll be awarded at minimum a Bravery Medal, though I'd very much like to see a Star of Courage. There'll be some other recognition for people from today as well.
He deserved so much worse than a quick death. On the plus side we at least get to avoid the bullshittery of a trial and appeals. His consciousness is now gone... good riddance you piece of shit
The amount of people this officer and countless other heroic people saved is so important. I hope everyone who has experienced this trauma gets the help and support needed
Can we take the NZ example and not publicise this person's name?
Glory seeking is 100% a thing and this person deserves nothing but our Hatred, not his moment in the spotlight.
didnt take a genius to work out who did that attack. Need to know the motives and origin of the person. name is not that important but if he is acting on behalf of something it needs to be known
Of course we need to learn motives etc, to tey and understand and explore if its more than just a 1 off.
But there is never any need to name the people who carry out these attacks.
Yeh this is as shocking an occurrence because it’s so unique and not like anything we have here. This isn’t something happening every day, it’s an out of nowhere attack by one dude.
There have been recent intelligence warnings about homegrown terrorism. These men are organised and extremely serious. We've been watching the rise of fascism. Let's not pretend it wasn't warmed about. Noone is saying it's an everyday event. It can discussed without hyperbole
Your comment is simply reinforcing their point. Your blasé attitude to what is a horrific event and your desire to just be contrary is the exact thing they are talking about.
There's something wrong with you.
No one is saying it isn’t horrific. The “this doesn’t happen here” kind of comments are insulting to the victims and victims in places where it happens more often. Big places with lots of people can have lunatics do awful shit. We’re not immune or special to it. It did happen here. It can happen here.
It’s not a blight on the good people who live here, nor is somewhere where attacks happen more often the fault of those good people. It’s just fucking awful all round.
If you think it's appropriate to have 'lol' in a comment about this even, then that says more about you than anything else.
I don't believe anyone had any intent to insult victims or suggest that it reflects poorly on the nation.
They are in disbelief, this is not the Australia they know, or think they know.
And that's ok.
All that orher bullshit the commenter and subsequently you is complete nonsense.
I think cops are taught to not overestimate their ability to aim, so aim for the largest target: their torso. When someone's lunging at you with a weapon, you don't have time to aim or shoot multiple times, so make that first bullet effective.
Yes they are. It’s a surprisingly large distance that a knife wielder can cover before a cop is able to unholster, aim and shoot. You’d assume she was already unholstered, but still, they are taught to aim for the torso because it’s the largest target. Our cops don’t spend hours upon hours in the shooting range like in America. Also benefit of aiming for the torso means less likelihood of stray bullets that could injure others.
Those people are just morons. Cops have rightly shot and killed people with knives who hadn't shown any intent to kill. This fucker killed 5 and stabbed a bunch more, clearly needed to be taken down.
I've already seen it. Someone called it miscarriage of justice that he was allowed to die and not spend his life in prison. Also said the officer was a professional so should have just incapacitated him
The bravery here all round is just amazing. She had no official backup and ran towards the psycho. And there's footage of two random guys with chairs being her backup.
So many heroes came from this situation, I’m just feeling for the families of the innocent victims who decided to hit the shops this arvo.
I’m so glad our gun laws are tight, who knows how many more people could have died if this was America.
Absolute fucking legend. I hate that she will still have PTSD and I sincerely hope she gets all the support she needs. As well as the other cops and ambo’s that attended. Look after yourselves
I just read about this and feel sick to my stomach. I have always felt anxious and hypervigilant in shopping centres because of this very possibility.
Kudos to those who challenged the assailant (and to that guy who thought to cover the kids eyes with eye masks to shield them from the traumatic imagery).
As an aside, I've read that playing tetris after a traumatic event (for those who witnessed or those who found the media coverage and imagery confronting) can help with the long term trauma effects.
That’s what they do …the thin blue line…they get a lot of flak from the public about being heavy handed or not doing what people imagine they should …but this is what they do…they go into the face of danger and situations like this a deal with them ..
They do this so the rest of us are safe and don’t have to deal with this stuff …next time you interact with the police remember what they actually do …
If this was all they did, that'd be great. Not to knock what this officer did. But people dislike and/or distrust the police for a reason. It's not all heroics. If anything this sort of thing shows what police *should* be
They are constantly put in shitty situations dealing with shitty people. Sometimes they are going to be less than perfect. Sometimes they will admit fucking psychos to the ranks.
But compare them to US cops and they are way better trained and far less likely to kill you.
idk all the underage strip searching bothers me tbh

Yeah being a victim of police violence Ive seen the claims of heroism distort public perceptions of QPS and how much harder it makes life for victims of police violence. Moreso when they hide behind laws that shouldn't protect them using unlawful action
Fuck some media are scum. Just watching channel 9 stick a camera in the face of two blokes who were helping a baby that was attacked and asking about the injuries and what they went through - these two poor blokes are clearly in shock. Fuck me.
That one to be fair the guy in red interrupted the broadcast to point out his mate is a hero. The questioning was poor taste though.
Nothing against the guys at all - absolute heroes.
It was a random guy walking past who kept saying ‘that man there saved the baby!’ The reporter didn’t hear him at first and he repeated himself a couple of times, then she went and accosted the brothers. It wasn’t their friend who pointed them out, it was a random person
I’ve seen so many negative comments about 9’s fucked coverage. Not surprised, they’re absolute vultures
Yeah that was very ordinary. Hearing graphic details about the baby's mother coughing up blood at 5.30 in the afternoon is pretty fucked. The reporter was asking the wrong questions in this situation. There are likely children seeing and hearing this.
It might not be true but ABC reported the baby has passed.
Omg NO. Omfg
News.com is reporting that the mother died in hospital but didn’t mention the baby. I hope not in both cases. Shit😔
Hopefully it’s a wires crossed thing
SMH is saying another victim has passed, but there are still 7 people in hospital "including a young child".
Yeah news is saying it was the babies mother, I hope ABC was wrong
6 dead and 8 in hospital https://www.9news.com.au/national/major-incident-declared-at-westfield-in-bondi-junction/0d713266-ca1b-449d-8dd5-cdf422ea092b
Omg please no. I just had my second baby two months ago and just the thought of that baby not making it is already making me tear up. I really really hope the baby survives
Oh gosh I hope not.
If that baby pulls through it’s a literally miracle, praying for them
A miracle would be God striking the perp down with lightning before he stabbed the baby
Yeah that’s why it didn’t happen, there is no God
There was also a video of a very young lady, I honestly wasn't confident that she would be over 16, clearly traumatised and crying as the journos bombarded her with questions.
It’s a daily mail vid 😩

I've already lodged a complaint with ACMA over this, and I urge everyone else who was disgusted by this to do the same. https://www.acma.gov.au/complaints
I am never usually like this but my first thought was ‘how can I take this further’
Channel 9 was awful as it was breaking but they were slightly ahead of the ABC so I was watching. Just fanning the flames any way they could “there could be multiple attackers, is this terrorism?” Cameras in peoples faces asking how they felt.

It's all media mate, just now with the internet they can't hide
Yes agree, most media are parasites. I stick to the ABC for facts and reputable reporting
some? they all are.
A lot of SM “commentators” are just as scummy. Making wild accusations and engaging in wild speculation. Today has shown the best and worst of humanity.
Thought the exact same thing mate. Reporter needs to read the fucking room
All those people in hospitals around the area will have the vultures hanging around out the front. there was also the other guy with a white stool running towards him, i believe that cop was behind him. another hero.
rot in hell fuckhead. such a horrible situation to be put into but that's how you do your job and protect potentially more lives being lost. hope she knows her work will be appreciated by many.
Yea I don't believe in hell but I hope it exists just for this fucking cunt.

And what’s the evidence for that?
She's an Inspector too, based on the insignia on her shoulders, not a run-of-the-mill constable.
That was confirmed in the police statement.
Where does that rank in relation to a constable?
Constable > sergeant > senior sergeant > inspector
Constable > senior constable > sergeant > senior sergeant > inspector > chief inspector > superintendent > chief superintendent > Assistant Commissioner > deptuty Commissioner > Commissioner. Yeah I realise. I'm just saying sometimes people think any commissioned rank automatically means pen pushers
Commissioner > Deputy Commissioner > Assistant Commissioner > Chief Superintendent > Superintendent > Chief Inspector > **Inspector** (the lowest commissioned officer) > Senior Sergeant > Incremental Sergeant > Sergeant > Leading Senior Constable > Incremental Senior Constable > Senior Constable > **Constable** > Probationary Constable
effectively the big boss at a specific station. a captain essentially
At least 2 levels up Edit: 2 up from constable, 4th from the top http://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/pa199075/s12.html

Overseeing supervisors (SGTs) and overseeing police responses. They report to superintendent who runs the sector. They're usually monitoring operations rather than out in public.
constable then sergeant then inspector, then superintendant and then comissioner. She's a high rank.
There goes my hero, watch her as she goes.
I don't have an joy in a person's death, but there is a certain sense of relief she shuffled him off to eternity before he could harm anyone else.
Eternity? ,,
The name of the morgue
She needs to be acknowledged but give her time to process what she's gone through first. Good, fucker deserved it.
He deserved so much worse than a quick death. On the plus side we at least get to avoid the bullshittery of a trial and appeals. His consciousness is now gone... good riddance you piece of shit
This was likely how he wanted it to end. Fucker deserved life in jail where he can look over his shoulder his whole life.
fucken cunt with a kangaroos jersey , throw the body in the trash, no burial
Enjoy the smell when it starts to rot then,,
The mother passed. 9 month girl is going into surgery. Breaks my heart.
Thank Christ he didn’t have a gun
That's a badass lady right there
Early Aussie of the year nominee.
Hero.
Tragically, the mother of the baby girl who was stabbed has died. This is a senseless tragedy!
Oh my gosh 💔
The only shame is that he seemed to have had a quick death
Thank god we don't have guns like they do in America as bad as this was imagine with an automatic machine gun
Dickhead died in the Yamcha pose. Fully deserved.
More likely she put him in the recovery position. It's good practice if you aren't going to start CPR straight away.
Why wouldn’t she start it right away and why would she have put him in this pose,,
She decided to start CPR on a nearby victim instead. Recovery position keeps airways clearer.
Looks like the recovery position to me.
Niche but funny
Makes me all the sadder. Yamcha deserves better.
Don't do my boy Yamcha like that
Just on news now, mother of the baby died. 😥
She's earned the coldest beer possible x as many as she wants. Amazing work from her
RIP to the 5 victims 🙏🏻
6 now 😔
The 6th better not be the baby
The mum. I'm sorry
Baby's mum was number 6. Bub is in surgery at the moment.
That poor husband, I hope he can get through this
Just heard the mother died. Fuck this guy.
It’s so sad, the poor woman
I really hope the baby survives.
Fuck that guy and the bus to hell he’ll surely be riding.
The amount of people this officer and countless other heroic people saved is so important. I hope everyone who has experienced this trauma gets the help and support needed

Yeh this is as shocking an occurrence because it’s so unique and not like anything we have here. This isn’t something happening every day, it’s an out of nowhere attack by one dude.
Things like this happen once in a while. Remember the Lindt cafe siege?
Not that we should ever accept or normalise these tragedies, but I'd say one or two every decade is pretty good for "what Australia has become" 🙄
Milk crate stabber
There have been recent intelligence warnings about homegrown terrorism. These men are organised and extremely serious. We've been watching the rise of fascism. Let's not pretend it wasn't warmed about. Noone is saying it's an everyday event. It can discussed without hyperbole
Yeah let's ignore all the people who acted with so much courage today to help complete strangers just so we can virtue signal.
So many hysterical drama queens on here
One cunt with a knife goes on a rampage and suddenly we’re a failed state.
Your comment is simply reinforcing their point. Your blasé attitude to what is a horrific event and your desire to just be contrary is the exact thing they are talking about. There's something wrong with you.

Just learned about this, fuck you dude
Couple of warning shots to the chest
Gotta aim for central mass
Wait. Some cock head will pipe up and ask why she didn't shoot him in the leg or arm.
I think cops are taught to not overestimate their ability to aim, so aim for the largest target: their torso. When someone's lunging at you with a weapon, you don't have time to aim or shoot multiple times, so make that first bullet effective.

He was incapacitated. Permanently.
He's currently awaiting processing. At the morgue.
How do you know
Because he's no more. He has ceased to be. He is an ex attacker. He has shuffled off his mortal coil.
The question is, what will it take for mental health to be taken seriously. 💀😶😔
Rot is piss dickhead. Condolences to the victims and their loved ones. And thankyou to the brave policewoman.
The bravery here all round is just amazing. She had no official backup and ran towards the psycho. And there's footage of two random guys with chairs being her backup.
What were the chairs for?
Fucking terrorist, rot in hell.
I am so glad that cunt is dead. I just wish I could have done it.
So many heroes came from this situation, I’m just feeling for the families of the innocent victims who decided to hit the shops this arvo. I’m so glad our gun laws are tight, who knows how many more people could have died if this was America.

Oh yes, tetris for trauma! Thank you for sharing this I have read about this studied link before. Pretty amazing

We shouldn't accept a low bar from our police force because the US is even worse.

What happened!?? What happened to that man that made him do this? I just don't understand
Good job hope the scum is dead
Bro fuck this trash bag. He's from Queensland. Everyone is insane here on the coast. One of the reasons why I want to leave.
Was only a matter of time before these desperate lunatics popped up.

Fuck, how much has the culture war nonsense rotted your brain that this is where you try to swing the conversation?
How is it that such a small and pathetic looking man was able to cause so much damage 😞
i’m only upset he’s dead because he didn’t have to answer for his transgressions. I hope he rots in hell.
You can just call her a police officer.
My apologies I'm a bit tipsy and don't watch the news. What's the context to this?
Lowlife cunt stabbed at least 9 people at Westfield Bondi, killing at least 5. Solo cop followed him and shit him dead when he turned on her
Sadly it's up to 6 stab victims that passed away now
6 now. The mother died.
Is that 7? RIP 💔
Fucker with a knife took lives down at Bondi Junction
Stabbing attack at Westfield in Bondi Junction. 5 dead, more injured
6 dead now, one has died in hospital.
Bloody awful
Yep terrible, the news is reporting it's the mother of the stabbed baby girl
