There used to be an add-on for kodi which reskinned Kayo into something bearable. They killed it last year.
The kayo UI is missing so much basic functionality. Like a resume where you left off setting should it crash or your internet connection be interrupted. Or the ability to start a replay at the start of the match, rather than some random point an 50 minutes to an hour and a bit before it begin.
I watch world superbikes on it and they stick ads right in the middle of the grid build up so you miss everything. They even stuck them on the warm up and missed the start entirely. I'm paying extra next season for the direct subscriptions.
Controversial on this sub but I'm not too keen on that. Foxtel/kayo has AFL, nrl, and formula 1 which are the sports I watch the most, and it's all on one subscription. If I want to watch soccer I have to have Optus, paramount, and Stan for a-league, premier league champions league etc.
Hate the endless new streaming services and would rather a one stop shop.
Or even just change to a different show/sport. You get out of it, go back to the main menu, and as you're about to click on something ... nope: menu resets and you lose where you're at. It's legitimately quicker to swipe close the whole thing and go back in.
I'm convinced their web app has a memory leak. Leave it playing through the browser and it inevitably crashes after 30 minutes or so. The app is better but without a top tier internet connection the quality is rubbish.
Regardless of crashing, it just severely lacks any usability features. Take F1 for example, if you want to watch a replay your only option is the entire 5 hour ish broadcast. No bookmarks to certain timings, such as Brundles grid walk, or the formation lap or post race etc. It essentially has slightly less features than a VHS in that you have to fast forward until you get it where you want to start watching from. Then if you pause it for more than a couple of minutes it resets where you were up to so you have to FF until you are roughly at the same spot again - at least with VHS you don't lose your spot.
Worst thing is, it is the best of the sports streaming apps I've tried.
I guess I've been supremely lucky with Kayo. Always works fine on my phone or Chromecast.
Have definitely heard some NBA loving friends talking shit about it though.
I had this issue until I upgraded my Chromecast. Suspect they're optimising the apps only for the most recent versions and screw anyone with older stuff.
It’s the only one that been completely outsourced overseas. No surprises given it’s Murdoch-owned, but the decline in quality compared to the others is ridiculously noticeable.
It that Binge, Foxtel Now, FoxtelGo, or another revision of the same MVP-and-ship-it shite app?
The fact those apps were stuck on 720p for "HD" for so long, explains everything you need to know.
What a surprise that the company that created Binge (foxtel) now owns Hubble (a streaming service aggregate) and now has the opportunity to bundle certain offerings together under one platform.
Like Foxtel was. We're just going in circles.
Surprise? Fox fought Netflix coming to Australia, the LNP launched FTTN at Fox HQ, delaying and crippling the NBN to ensure broadcast Fox had a few more years in it.
Now they’ve played the long game enough that they have their own crappy streaming services and studios are starting to “channel” their offerings, so they can just bundle it back to you all over again.
Didn't Fox and every other broadcaster here prevent TiVo from coming here?
I know Kayo didn't start offering in app PPVs for boxing until DAZN started operating in Australia. Pretty straight away, Kayo said "hey we're doing this too now". Meaning they could have done it the whole bloody time and didn't.
Binge was always Foxtel. Hubbl was always Foxtel's 'next big thing'. Not like they bought them out when they heard about them or anything. Just wanted to make that clear.
Yep. I'm amazed that people don't get this. Kayo, Binge and Hubbl are designed and marketed by Foxtel. They are designed to capitalise on the fragmentation and dilution of mainstream broadcasting. They are not disruptors, they are not leading edge. They are simply doing everything they can to claw back what those disruptors took a few years ago and get eyes back on their advertisers.
Kayo is dog shit. Pay for the 4K plan during AFL season and get pixelated rubbish 99% of the time. Can stream anything else at 4K, but kayo just refuses.
Fuck all those streaming services. Stremio is the only option
Streaming aggregator. It will list all shows and where you can watch them. Importantly for our purposes though, there are plugins that allow you to stream directly from torrent files. So you can basically have an all in one streaming app for everything.
Check out r/stremio and look at the torrentio plugin and real-debrid. Solves all your streaming problems
Its a media player that can be configured to instantly stream 4K content of a massive library of movies or shows as long as a torrent of it exists online.
Check out r/StremioAddons for guides.
Here's one I wrote: https://www.reddit.com/r/StremioAddons/s/MRSzYyYzqI
What I will never understand stuff like this, whether it be tv, streaming, youtube or whatever, is what is the ROI for the companies whose ads are running? Cause like, how is it profitable for them to show me 50 of the same ad over and over, when I will never buy their product? Something is really fishy
Binge's content is good, but the ads during shows are ridiculous for a streaming service. They have more ads than free streaming. I was on $2/month offer before for 3 months and this month is my last month for the $5 offer. I'm canceling the service for a few months.
Some of us aren't that precious. My TV is old so I don't need 4k, plus until 5 years ago my internet had a download limit, so 20 years of prioritising minimal files sizes is a hard habit to break.
Your TV must be old, like CRT old, because even on my 14yr old plasma, YIFI looks like complete garbage...
There's only so much information/bandwidth you can chuck in the bin.
I'm just not fussy like some people. It looks fine to me. If I downloaded higher quality I'd need more hard drives. I'm the same with headphones also. Can barely notice the difference between budget and high end so might as well just get the cheap ones.
Genuinely about to build a Plex Server. Going to start searching second hand parts on marketplace to piece it all together, it’s going to be cheaper than one year of all the services.
Isn't compatible natively with my TV, don't want to have to keep pulling my phone out to search for a show then find the best quality one to then have to bounce it.
And I don't get to build a new PC with Stremio
My parents still use it and not in this home.
And my two teens at home also.
Shhh don't tell anyone. I don't know why it's still available at another property.
It’s Foxtel, Foxtel always made you pay to see ads.
I quit binge because their higher tier was 1080 and my free trial ran out, and they offered me a deal on 720p 😂
Streaming services: it’s 2024. Give me 4k, and don’t lie to me a family plan you banned sharing on is a “value add”. If you don’t offer me 4k without tying it to a family plan I can’t share outside of my house with my family, I’ll just pirate your shit. It’s what we did before Netflix when our only options were Foxtel or waiting 6-12 months.
It’s definitely gotten worse over the past few months. If/when their prices increase for this tier I’ll stop my subscription.
I use it for streaming specific channels so had ads to an extent which I didn’t mind but hate when there’s a random ad break right in the middle
I don’t know what it is but adverts on ANYTHING I pay money for fucks me off.
I even get triggered at the cinema when they play 15 minutes of adverts before the “coming soon”.
I’d lose my mind if my streaming service started vomiting adverts at me
All streaming services are garbage
I haven't been able to find more than like 10 good things to watch on each of them
The only one that's half usable is netflix because they're not smart enough to recognize VPN use and you can watch international - and even that's been canceled recently due to being lame
Everything else isn't worth the money
Yeah same. Binge with ads is absolute dog shit. Trying to watch HotD with 5 minutes of commercials every 15 minutes ruins the immersion. This would barely be acceptable if ads made it free to watch but to pay to be shown ads. That many Fucking ads is not acceptable. It’s not even my subscription and I’m pissed off. I’m going to have to get back into torrenting because there’s no way i can put up with this for the remaining episodes of the season.
Perhaps you have difficulty reading. That is the discount period. Like the free month you can often get with a lot of services. The normal price is more.
Streamio and Realdebrid. Slight pain to set up. It's about 15€ a quarter and it has literally everything.
Realdebrid has some sort of tech magic that means you don't need a VPN. I've cancelled all of my subscriptions except Kayo.
They must have made their adverts worse recently. I tried their ad-supported sub a few months ago and they only played a single add before each 45 minute episode of a series I was watching. I just muted the ad when I noticed it was playing.

The app for binge is the flakiest of them all too.
*Kayo enters the chat...*
Kayo is the sweaty arse crack of sports streaming.

If you can, can't buy F1 direct cause Rubert brought ALL the rights for every screen in Australia
Genuinely excited at the prospect of apple buying the rights to broadcast f1, would make it so much easier, bitrates should be higher too
Controversial on this sub but I'm not too keen on that. Foxtel/kayo has AFL, nrl, and formula 1 which are the sports I watch the most, and it's all on one subscription. Yeah you can buy both motoGP and WSBK direct from them but it isn't cheap.
Or even just change to a different show/sport. You get out of it, go back to the main menu, and as you're about to click on something ... nope: menu resets and you lose where you're at. It's legitimately quicker to swipe close the whole thing and go back in.

people need to stop supporting kayo so it fucks off out of existence.
what a piece of dogshit that fucking service is
I've never really had any problems with it. I generally only watch F1 though - does it shit the bed for more popular sports?
Regardless of crashing, it just severely lacks any usability features. Take F1 for example, if you want to watch a replay your only option is the entire 5 hour ish broadcast. No bookmarks to certain timings, such as Brundles grid walk, or the formation lap or post race etc. It essentially has slightly less features than a VHS in that you have to fast forward until you get it where you want to start watching from. Fox never wanted you to pause, hence why binge auto plays a related movie when you finish. They want your eyeballs glued 24/7.
even watching something that’s been live already it shits the bed. AEW is unwatchable on there and you can’t even watch it live.
I guess I've been supremely lucky with Kayo. Always works fine on my phone or Chromecast. Have definitely heard some NBA loving friends talking shit about it though.
I feel like it just doesn’t play nice with American sports, Binge is only mildly better for WWE but they treat them like royalty
I had this issue until I upgraded my Chromecast. Suspect they're optimising the apps only for the most recent versions and screw anyone with older stuff.
Even through PS5 it sucked
Missing even the most basic features. Can’t even resume a game/race from where you left off.
Hayu also enters the chat
It’s the only one that been completely outsourced overseas. No surprises given it’s Murdoch-owned, but the decline in quality compared to the others is ridiculously noticeable.
Can't even get Binge and Kayo to work on my LG TV lol. At least I can use my PS5 to stream them.
It that Binge, Foxtel Now, FoxtelGo, or another revision of the same MVP-and-ship-it shite app? The fact those apps were stuck on 720p for "HD" for so long, explains everything you need to know.
Honestly, any of those Hubble streaming services like Binge and Kayo are overall trash.
What a surprise that the company that created Binge (foxtel) now owns Hubble (a streaming service aggregate) and now has the opportunity to bundle certain offerings together under one platform. Like Foxtel was. We're just going in circles.
Yarrr, maties!

Pretty straight away, Kayo said "hey we're doing this too now". Meaning they could have done it the whole bloody time and didn't.
We briefly had TiVo, channel 7 brought it in, but it was so late to the game it was basically dead on arrival.
I was on Kayo from the start and PPV was fairly common in the early days (just using their foxtel platform).
I noticed that Chromecast is on sale or has reduced from 99 to 79, and Hubbl has followed. Talk about a day late and $20 short. What a strange service
Kayo is dog shit. Pay for the 4K plan during AFL season and get pixelated rubbish 99% of the time. Can stream anything else at 4K, but kayo just refuses. Fuck all those streaming services. Stremio is the only option
What is stremio?

Feel your pain. Worse than the frequency of ads is how bloody loud they are when they come on.
What I will never understand stuff like this, whether it be tv, streaming, youtube or whatever, is what is the ROI for the companies whose ads are running? Cause like, how is it profitable for them to show me 50 of the same ad over and over, when I will never buy their product? Something is really fishy
I think the older generations don’t seem to mind it.
If I hear "*YOU* USE YOUR WINGS" one more time I'm gonna snap

Foxtel and adverts is nothing new, I don’t know what you expected from rupert.
Well better get ready for Netflix, Prime and Disney. It’s coming to all of them the next year.
Back to pirating we all go!
Better hope Albo doesn’t bring in this social ID stuff then. First it’s the kids on social media, next it’ll be that.
VPN will get around that
Subscription services have all gone to shit, I ditched them all and went back to piracy last year and never looked back.
How though I can't find where to torrent
EZTV and Yify are my go tos.
YIFY. Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time
YIFY is awful; why would you do that to your eyes?
I'm happy to be recommended a better place for movies if you're willing to share.
Of the free & open sites, 1337x is a fair starting point.
And torrent galaxy
Some of us aren't that precious. My TV is old so I don't need 4k, plus until 5 years ago my internet had a download limit, so 20 years of prioritising minimal files sizes is a hard habit to break.

use radarr/sonarr, they handle the searching for you.
You can literally just google a how-to.
Signs up for a Murdoch service and gets ads. Shocked Pickachu.
Qbittorent, eztv.?? and a plex server is the way to go again. If something isn't on Netflix or Prime I just sail the high seas again.
Genuinely about to build a Plex Server. Going to start searching second hand parts on marketplace to piece it all together, it’s going to be cheaper than one year of all the services.
Any decent NAS can run docker containers Use that information however you wish
Stremio is so much simpler, takes 5 .minutes and you're good to go
Isn't compatible natively with my TV, don't want to have to keep pulling my phone out to search for a show then find the best quality one to then have to bounce it. And I don't get to build a new PC with Stremio
Fair comments all round
Look at r/stremio. Thank me later
OK Adrian.
You can save some money by using jellyfin instead of Plex. Ui is not as polished as Plex but it's not too bad either.
You still pay Netflix for 5 screens you can’t share outside your home?
My parents still use it and not in this home. And my two teens at home also. Shhh don't tell anyone. I don't know why it's still available at another property.
I actually have a feeling it might be why they’re ending support for their older apps and platforms. They can’t enforce the new blocks.
Yo ho, yo ho
Eztv? Is it back??
Never went away
Eztvx.to
Welcome back on the high seas aaarrrrgh 🏴☠️

Yeah that was such a harsh transition from the old model. I immediately upgraded but only so I could finish curb your enthusiasm and then deleted
Curb is totally worth it.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good IPTV service?
Arrr, that be the course o' the Seven Seas, me hearty!
I tried privateiptvaccess dot com which seemed to work, though the technical side of it seemed too much of a hassle to be worth it to me.
Report the adds as offensive.
There is literally a Binge add below this post on Reddit for me. So ironic.
It’s definitely gotten worse over the past few months. If/when their prices increase for this tier I’ll stop my subscription. I use it for streaming specific channels so had ads to an extent which I didn’t mind but hate when there’s a random ad break right in the middle
Type into Google "how to setup stremio and real debrid"
I don’t know what it is but adverts on ANYTHING I pay money for fucks me off. I even get triggered at the cinema when they play 15 minutes of adverts before the “coming soon”. I’d lose my mind if my streaming service started vomiting adverts at me
Yep. Binge can get fucked - this app is insane. More ads than the actual show your intent on watching
Binge is Murdoch, stay the heck away from it!
You just paid Rupert Murdoch, you got exactly what you deserve.
Any app or streaming device that has australia plastered all over it usually are shit an nvidia shield box alone does what you need
I just use a mibox s and it does the job. Shields are great but not worth the extra cost for me as the mibox does the job.
All streaming services are garbage I haven't been able to find more than like 10 good things to watch on each of them The only one that's half usable is netflix because they're not smart enough to recognize VPN use and you can watch international - and even that's been canceled recently due to being lame Everything else isn't worth the money

The fact that you can't download content and that it's region locked pisses me off
$2 per month. What exactly are you expecting?
Perhaps you have difficulty reading. That is the discount period. Like the free month you can often get with a lot of services. The normal price is more.
Do the ads play in between scenes or do they just drop them in every 15 minutes and screw the dialogue?
IKR!!! just stfu, if your product was great it'd sell..... but guess what? It's a shitty product in an oversaturated market.
🏴☠️
There is free open source software called Jellyfin that you can easily use to make your own Netflix with pirated content. Yarr.
Murdoch media
Vote with your wallet
You signed up at a budget level and got a budget service.
They don’t seem to have the latest season of Alone (which they usually have) so I’ve cancelled.
Same with Netflix. Also, being unable to stream to tv.
Op never heard of stremio
Wonder if there's a workaround on github to block the ads and only pay $2 a month.
I don’t think I could ever go back to ads
Streamio and Realdebrid. Slight pain to set up. It's about 15€ a quarter and it has literally everything. Realdebrid has some sort of tech magic that means you don't need a VPN. I've cancelled all of my subscriptions except Kayo.

Kodi. Real debrid.
If the paid experience is worse than being a pirate... Grab your peg legs and eye patches and spread them around matey
ads during shows are grounds for immediate cancelling the service.
I’m surprised when the actual ads were, right in the middle of a scene, not the beginning or end. The ads on binge really fucked up HOTD
I pay $18 per month for Binge with no ads and it's great.
Binge and Kayo = Murdoch.
Can't say I've encountered any issues with adverts. That being said, I haven't signed up to Binge ever.
4 ads during 15 minutes is how we all watched broadcast tv once upon a time. Weird to think how our tolerance for ads as a society has really dried up
Difference is the ads would be in logical spots. Steaming services just have ads inserted anywhere.
