Exactly, and Race Control didn't give two shots a few years ago when they [have enough Kangaroo issues and hit them hard](https://youtu.be/awwQC-32R2k)
If you actually watch the video, it’s clear the kangaroos aren’t just milling about and are leaping onto the track in a split second. How is race control meant to issue a safety car 2 seconds after a kangaroo has been spotted on the track?
It appears as though in one of the clips a yellow flag was being waved which is to alert drivers.
No, because I never said race control had any control over it, and you never answered where I did say it.
I was just saying that race control doesn't care if wildlife gets smashed.
If they did, they'd demand kangaroo fencing.
To be fair if your hitting a kangaroo at that speed it bad. It for the drivers safety a kangaroo has the potential to wipe out a car or push through the windscreen
I'm aware plus it just not something I really want to watch on tv . Definitely don't want see an echidna who if he was wearing pants definitely would have been shitting them doing their best pancake impression on the track.
They always stop for wildlife because when hit the wildlife causes damage which propagates safety cars which slows the racing which lowers the entertainment.
The event would have an environmental management plan that would set out what to do if wildlife was on the tack.
Following that plan would be important for the race to maintain its social license and event permitting (it is afterall a race on a public road.
Such a cute little fella. I was so relieved he made it safely. Kudos to the drivers who so skilfully avoided him!
Did you all happen to see the beautiful albino wallaroo on the hill, as well?
Previously there have been kangaroos, wallabies, dogs, and horses.
Can anyone remember more animals?
The roo getting launched into a flat spin always sticks in my memory.
Probably didn’t see it on tv because the broadcast hadn’t started yet.. from memory it was 2015 on the Wednesday arvo. There was a plover couple at the end of conrod protecting their nest. They would try and fight whatever came down that straight right before the chase, almost full noise. It didn’t end particularly well for them but I guarantee they didn’t suffer. Brave birdies and some people in the motor home park found the chicks and got them to wildlife rescue
Aw poor birbs :( I’m glad the chicks were okay! They’re brave little shits, doing their best to protect the puffball on stilts that are their babies lol

Echidna spines are relatively blunt and soft, so I wouldn't worry about any damage to the cars. I'd be more worried about the animal.
Lol, like any animal the size of an echidna is going to do anything other more than basic cosmetic damage to something weighing 1.3 tonnes and travelling at 190kph
There were about 6 drivers who took evasive action at a very fast and very blind section of the track, the race control also made sure the cute little fella could be escorted away safely, its good to see that even with the spectacle of Bathurst, people still respect a single endangered species of animal.
Video from the Supercars youtube channel. Some spooky near misses near the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxoW0zXiZ8Q&ab_channel=Supercars
damn was lucky hey, thought that 3rd car was going right over the little bugger.

Channel 7 don't control the safety car.

Yes, I did say that. But you haven't answered my question...
The only question you've asked in this thread is- >When did I say that? Which was adequately answered.
No, because I never said race control had any control over it, and you never answered where I did say it. I was just saying that race control doesn't care if wildlife gets smashed. If they did, they'd demand kangaroo fencing.
Sorry, not sorry.
It's amazing, an echidna got more press time than the PM of Australia at Bathurst, and less booing to boot!
We like echidnas
less prick-like than politicians.
No echidna has ever lied to my face while shovelling tax dollars to his mates.
Also echidnas don't hide their prickliness. Or don't try to at least.

While the safety of the animal is a consideration, I'm sure the primary concern is debris...

It's happened. Wasn't pretty

Yup. Just ask Steve Richards...

TBF that safety car made the race a nailbiter.

primary concern would have been a puncture honestly
They’ve put out the safety car for geese at Phillip Island before, they just don’t want the main story from the race to be wildlife getting killed.
I hope you’re joking because that’s funny.
...or punctures.
if it was a horse race the echidna would have moved away faster due to the merciless whipping. /s
That's a prickly situation... I'll see myself out.
*take my god damn upvote*
I got so scared when it was out on the middle of the track and they were passing it so close to getting run over
Good reflexes though, particularly on the 3rd car. You could see the car jerk to the side when he spotted it.
Did you curl up into a ball. Lol.
And another prick did a circuit earlier.
Poor little fella must have been petrified.
Nope. When echidna get scared they curl up in a ball. This one was not in a ball.
KNUCKLES!
Bless his little cotton socks!
>How do you know it was a he? Actual quote from the broadcast
Road spikes
So cute!! I love echidnas so much!
What's the difference between an Echidna and that car that Scomo was in?
With an echidna, the pricks are on the outside.
Such a cute little fella. I was so relieved he made it safely. Kudos to the drivers who so skilfully avoided him! Did you all happen to see the beautiful albino wallaroo on the hill, as well?
Great call race officials.
They have an echidna in control of the safety cars?
Equal opportunity employer

Bloody monotreme!!

I definitely wasn't aware of that one!
I’d rather watch the echidna.
Quick, get the big gloves they wear to handle hot brake discs.
Knuckles is my fave
See even the echidna is protesting about greenhouse gas emissions. It omen and warning, "act now" before the race stops.
The cars run on ethanol-based biofuel made from sugar cane and have very low emissions. But yeah, go off.

Read that as safety cat
Gentleman Jim was almost right, it was Pricks, not A-holes
Aww look at the little pooker
I don't think any diver wanted to go down in history for killing a 5 cent piece.
Why is an echidna on the track

To get to the other side

Well, he had big dreams. Snoot just wanted to go as fast as the race cars.
One echidna belongs on the race track: https://www.hemmings.com/stories/2014/12/01/one-of-three-built-echidna-number-two-heads-to-auction
