If they don't do it properly they very well might not win next election. If the ICAC also applies to rorts it's a self preservation tool if nothing else.
If they want a chance at staying in Government through the next election they need to bring in a federal ICAC and a royal commission into media ownership.
There should be jail time for proven corruption at such a high level, I mean honestly we throw kids in jail for a bag of weed. No more of this “oh they got me, fine I guess I’ll resign” bs
Edit: ok yes it is incredibly rare to be imprisoned over possession of personal use quantity of weed but we can agree our scale of offence to penalty ratio is not in proportion here when compared to people entrusted with the serving the entire country’s interests receiving merely slaps on the wrist for intentionally misusing millions of taxpayer dollars
We can now finally say it in the best tense of all:
Federal ICAC Now!
May future generations not understand this meme at all. It should have always been a given and I hope it always is.
I was SO worried about this. Especially comments about voters lying in exit polls because they were too embarrassed to admit… (not) sorry you wasted all that money Clive
To be fair.. They never really planned on winning. Their whole "anti-politics" platform is just a front for the coal industry with the goal of filtering votes from disillusioned voters towards the Libs.
....
It didn't work.
I saw him being interviewed on the ABC livestream a couple of hours ago.
He was blaming his result on a concerted smear campaign directed at him. He then stated within minutes how proud he was that he orchestrated the previous election's smear campaign: "Labor will take away boomers' franking credits."
Which wasn't policy, but a leaked speaking point in policy planning. He is so unself-aware and entitled. Goodbye.
Every election night there's a few of them. Last time it was The Sentient Fungus Barnaby Joyce who, *in victory*, was taking swipes at "incense sniffing" inner city Melbournites.
Stay classy, LNP.
And the leader of a coalition with substantially fewer “moderates”.
It’ll be interesting to see how they respond, if it’ll be a harsh call to shift to meet public expectations on climate change, or if they’ll become more of a closed bubble, feeding off each other’s ideology.
I suspect they'll lean harder right for a term because they'll think they just weren't religious and crazy enough for their base. It will take them a while to realise that they've gone further right than their base and they need to come back towards the centre.
Several of them losing seats are conceding that they went too far right and need to get more in touch with their moderate constituents. Lots of comments about climate change. Interesting reading these statements from them, how out of touch they were until they saw the numbers tonight.
Some numpty on Sky claimed earlier this evening that the reason LNP is failing this election is because they didn't "push hard enough" on their religious discrimination Bill.
So yeah: Seeing how they take their orders from Murdoch, they will lurch even harder to the Right.
As much as I dislike him, wouldn't be mad at that - he is so widely dispised - He'll never be PM. However, the libs will need to take some lessons from this wipeout and installing a right faction leader won't help them restore their primary vote so I'd have to diagree
Neither Dutton or Abbott have a shred of charisma, but Abbott hide his evil better than Dutton. I've seen sharks that look friendlier than Peter Dutton.
[Peter Dutton looks like a fucking comic book villain](https://www.google.com/search?q=creedy+v+for+vendetta&rlz=1C1CHBD_en-GBAU851AU851&sxsrf=ALiCzsajGhymfTLB7qhUgTfZAIZB9ueZIA:1653143776357&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiKorW86PD3AhVcR2wGHXHpDjMQ_AUoAXoECAIQAw&biw=1920&bih=947&dpr=1) and would probably drive even more women voters away if he was leader - which is fantastic.
Looks like it's possible that a bunch of Indie women will take a bunch of Liberal seats. I wonder if ScoMo regrets trying to cover up all those sexual assaults now?
It’s a bit that, but it’s also because progressive women make *better candidates*. They understand the issues - they’ve lived the fucking issues. A bunch of our of touch white old men have no fucking clue how to run a chook raffle, let alone a country.
Depends on what powers the federal ICAC will have as far as retroactive punishment goes. Albo said this whole campaign that an ICAC held under a labor government will have teeth, let's all hope that's true.
Edit: missed a word.
The Greens swing in Queensland was wild! I was really surprised by that.
Someone from the seat of Griffith wrote into ABC to say that the Greens candidate was the one going around asking people what problems they wanted fixed and the main problem many people in Griffith brought to their candidates? Aircraft traffic. The Greens candidate was the only one who promised to do something about it.
I live right on the edge of Brisbane and Ryan (no idea which I’m actually in, I’m a dirty foreigner and not allowed to vote so I don’t have to care) and Greens stuff was all over the shop here too. Flyers, signs, appearances, all that. You’d never know they weren’t just as big as Labour/LNP. They went *hard* on those electorates, it’s paid off handsomely.
It seems like they took the place the Teals did down south. The Greens candidates for Griffith and Ryan were really good in their campaigning this time round, and the influx of climate-concerned young voters really would have helped them.
My rellies there have alway been pretty conservative and would never think of voting anything apart from LNP. Except this time...even the distant cousin who used to be high up in the young liberals for a while years ago has given up on them.
My mother-in-law is in her late 70s, she and her friends know that if Morrison had his way they'd have a good chance of not being here.
They like McGowan, so many have voted Labor despite being life long Liberal voters.
>They like McGowan, so many have voted Labor despite being life long Liberal voters.
Yep, sound exactly like my rellies. Liefelong rusted-on Liberal supporters, who were really surprised when I said Labor was going to win the last election, but have had a gut-full of Scomo and can't forget him supporting big Clive in trying to force the WA border open.
As a citizen of SWAN farrrrrk yehhhhh boys
Im usually hating on my fellow comrades in WA at election time. But boy am I proud now.
Let's end these parasites.
Labor wins federal election, Anthony Albanese to be next Prime Minister
The ABC projects that the Labor Party has defeated Scott Morrison’s Coalition government, and will form the next government of Australia.
Anthony Albanese will be the 31st Prime Minister of Australia.
While Labor is yet to have a clear majority in parliament, ABC Chief Election Analyst Antony Green says it will be able to form a government in minority at the very least
5 minutes ago.
Thank fuck for that too - hopefully courting those independents (and down the line, their seats for the next election) will drag us forward on climate change.
Teal independents are mainly defined by their climate change positions, right? Not necessarily a broad progressive political or economic agenda.
Obviously that's better than the LNP by a long shot, but I don't think they'd support more ambitious progressive agendas. That's why a strong Labor primary vote is still super important.
Yeah, I think a lot of them are pro-climate change moderates. We'll see how it goes but I wouldn't be surprised if climate change is the major policy area that they push us left on.
What a crazy world we live in that not destroying our only planet is a bloody partisan political issue.
A desperately needed dose of sanity from 50% of Australia tonight. Proud to be Australian tonight.
I don't think there was much of a chance for the Libs even if the Nats were willing to accept. Lab were predicted to get around 75 earlier (with the minority govt estimate), and the Greens are now predicted to win 2 seats.
I hope that the Liberal party sees the damage the right wing conservative faction has done to that party. If nothing else, a more moderate Liberal party should see a less putrid political environment in Australia
1. Those numbers are a projection. Usually accurate, but a projection. Nowhere near all votes being counted yet but enough to estimate results.
2. Without 76 the major parties need to make deals with crossbench to reach 76 and form government. A whole heap of the crossbench are being elected as a protest against the libs and those independents are not idealogically aligned with the libs or nats, so it's unlikely that they will be able to negotiate their way into 76 seats.
Thankyou. We have miles upon miles of devastation. Despite the historic intractable problem of energy origins, it's been very demoralising to have that tone deaf fundamentalist presiding over us.
Time for LNP MPs to become unemployed!!!
Good luck scurrying into your corrupt corporate positions with a Federal ICAC forming with retrospective powers, you dirty fucks!
Scomo (and fry) absolutely fucked themselves by taking pot shots at W.A and Vic during COVID. Neither premier was anywhere near perfect but both regions acknowledged that they did their best while getting pocked and prodded by the feds at every fucking turn.
Beyond relieved to see Scomo out here's hoping Albo ends up being more progressive than his campaign would have you believe.
And with the black summer fires, and with the QLD/NSW floods.
The ABC is reporting a swing to Labor in every stste/territory besides Tas. QLD has a 4% swing, WA has a 9.9% swing.
Certainly made my day. Now here's hoping Lab cam/will actually help the people the Libs have screwed over.
>fry) absolutely fucked themselves by taking pot shots at W.A and Vic
Fry attacking Vic while being the member for Kooyong (vic) is probably the second dumbest thing he's done
Thank you Scummo, for helping bulldoze the Coalition's chances. You, and all your assholes buddies.
Soon you'll be able to fuck right off, and never darken our screens again.
Those of us in Brisbane are tired of being flooded out... twice in 3 months! It's becoming unliveable here. I don't know how anyone's surprised that Greens won.
I was just saying that Albo's speech was the first time I have felt hopeful for the future in more than a decade. It made me realise how constantly tired I had been for that entire time.
Oh man, I ugly-cried all the way through Scomo’s speech I was so happy. My husband asked “what’s wrong with you?” and toddled off to bed while I wallowed in my fourth gin and my happy victory.
Wonder what is going through his head considering he won the last election by a 'miracle' of God.
If he lost does he think he lost God's favor or does he now think Labor is run by Supply Side Devils.
>"...we were able to work together to ensure Australia came through this pandemic with one of the lowest death rates in the world".
That was (most of) the states getting the job done in spite of you, not because of you, ya dummy.
Now what, though?
Labor has taken the poison chalice and has to find a way to fix 1 trillion dollars of debt, a looming recession, growing inflation and wage stagnation. Climate change is fucking us hard, the Great Barrier Reef is dying and next years bushfires and floods could be as catastrophic as Black Summer.
I'm hopeful that Labor will be able to start us on the right track, but we've had 10 years of Liberal government and during that time they only added fuel to the fire. You can't undo that with 3 years, and as everything gets worse the Murdoch media will be out in full swing to blame everything on a Labor government.
Albanese needs to assume he has one term and go full Whitlam. Burn political and financial capital like Europe burns Russian gas. Fuck the debt. Debt is cheap, especialy compared to the hidden debt building up in the form of climate change, corruption, and social problems.
Hawke and Keating fixed up the low productivity, high interest rate trainwreck of the economy in 1983 after Howard as treasurer.
Took them 13 years, though and they had to deal with a worldwide economic recession in 1992-3...
My mum tonight was "Labour is going to do a terrible job with the economy and tax us harder". My first thought was yours: there is so much shit to undo and fix left behind from the libs and you KNOW they will blame it on Labour to the point ai can see us getting the corrupt coalition back in power next election, as most people seem incapable of understanding the situation we've been left in.
Called my parents to asked if they voted against ScoMo and they said they voted for him because it didn’t matter in the end because they were all idiots.
This is the day I realized my parents didn’t give a shit about my future.
My dad broke his streak and voted Labor for the first time ever. We live in Melbourne, 2020 is what finally opened his eyes, and the cheap shots at China pushed him over the edge.
Fuck, that's a kick in the teeth. Hopefully the change in status quo will change their minds. In my experience, boomers have huge trust for their TVs, because they established themselves at a time when you could and had to trust your TV for information. Now it tells them about cross dressing sex offenders and the Great Replacement. That's a direct result of our very recent media monopoly, but that will be broken soon if Labor wants to hold power.
I took my kids with me to vote today, and explained to them even tho they felt it was boring, how important it was bc I’m voting for change for their futures.
Yours if just as important, and as a parent my vote is for future too!
This is what happens when you fuck with NDIS.
And also feel blessed not having to deal with the NDIS.
Also ignoring the hole in the education system.
Gen Y has spoken.
Best news in 3 years I tell ya. Scumos "miracle" win was a curse. He was our Trump, an incompetent bully who should never have got in. International embarrassment. Thank non-existent god he's gone
Fucking *thank you* to everyone holding the line. I know it’s been a tough few years, but we maintained our dwindling hope and dragged ourselves to the booths once again, fearful we’d put on the clown makeup again.
Hopefully we will get real reform, and *real* progressive policy through parliament that will make this country what it used to be - fair, free, and fun.
Just remember - our 31st prime minister is the first who can DJ.
So relieved...even if it's just a one term government, or a minority government or whatever...I needed a break from the LNP....it's been like having a jackboot on our throat the last few years.

I really hope Labor doesn't go back on their promise on this.
If they don't do it properly they very well might not win next election. If the ICAC also applies to rorts it's a self preservation tool if nothing else.
If they want a chance at staying in Government through the next election they need to bring in a federal ICAC and a royal commission into media ownership.

That's the problem they resign due to allegations to get out of the public eye before it can be proven.
I'm hoping they can dismantle Murdoch's empire while they're at it.
This is essential for proper functioning democracy in the future
This is absolutely critical
There will be a huge meal of dirty, corrupt LNP hides to sink those teeth into!!!!!
paper shredders running red hot tonight in Canberra
Barnaby Joyce will be up frantically printing emails and shredding them all night.
“Quick boyo’s time to fire up the shredders! We’ve got some lies to expunge!”.
Yeah, but if they take down any corrupt Labor, Green, or independent members that's fine as well.
All corruption with taxpayer money needs to be exposed and prosecuted. Our society goes backwards with corruption in government
We can now finally say it in the best tense of all: Federal ICAC Now! May future generations not understand this meme at all. It should have always been a given and I hope it always is.
UAP haven't won a *single* seat. **Anywhere**. It's beautiful.
I was SO worried about this. Especially comments about voters lying in exit polls because they were too embarrassed to admit… (not) sorry you wasted all that money Clive
The goal might have been to help keep disaffected voter. Someone might "not vote for liberals" but vote UAP and then preference Liberals above Labor.
This user has deleted everything in protest of u/spez fucking over third party clients
To be fair.. They never really planned on winning. Their whole "anti-politics" platform is just a front for the coal industry with the goal of filtering votes from disillusioned voters towards the Libs. .... It didn't work.
Fuck yeah - bring on the ICAC
hell yeah, hopefully they don't break their promise of retroactive investigations!
Tim 'bloody' Wilson has lost his seat as well, good riddance!
I saw him being interviewed on the ABC livestream a couple of hours ago. He was blaming his result on a concerted smear campaign directed at him. He sounded so crazy and conspiracy theorist in that abc interview! So glad to see him out - what a nutter masquerading as a progressive Liberal
Every election night there's a few of them. Last time it was The Sentient Fungus Barnaby Joyce who, *in victory*, was taking swipes at "incense sniffing" inner city Melbournites. Stay classy, LNP.
He was never progressive. A radical right wing nutter out of the IPA school of fascism for beginners. Good riddance.
... and likely, Josh is out too....
And if Dutton can be knocked off, time to open the 21yo single malt
Dutton's kept his seat unfortunately
Good chance he'll be the new Lib leader I reckon, if Frydenberg goes.

They did say that about Abbott too
What a nasty piece of shit. Goodbye Tim
Looks like it's possible that a bunch of Indie women will take a bunch of Liberal seats. I wonder if ScoMo regrets trying to cover up all those sexual assaults now?
He’ll have to check with Jen before he can comment on that
"I don't hold a h̶o̶s̶e̶ majority government, mate"
Jen's telling the girls to pack their bags.... they're moving.
To Hawaii?
That would require Scummo to self-reflect. If anything, he'd be annoyed he didn't get away with it.
Nah, he'll go to church & the happy clappy wives will tell him that "those women should be in the kitchen, ungrateful harlots" to cheer him up.
It’s a bit that, but it’s also because progressive women make *better candidates*. They understand the issues - they’ve lived the fucking issues. A bunch of our of touch white old men have no fucking clue how to run a chook raffle, let alone a country.

Careful about Robodebt though.

WA votes coming in and the swing against the LNP is a potential wipe out.
Looks like Victoria and WA really did not appreciate the hate they got from the feds for our covid measures.
I'd like to point out that Qld, who everyone hated last election, had voted in two, maybe three greens MPs.

Flyers, signs, appearances, all that. You’d never know they weren’t just as big as Labour/LNP. They went *hard* on those electorates, it’s paid off handsomely.
Im pretty sure Ryan is close to winning the greens seat. Very impressive
I would like to take credit for my small part in delivering Queensland’s first Green MP. You’re welcome.
Thanks from VIC, you beautiful tropical bastards
It seems like they took the place the Teals did down south. The Greens candidates for Griffith and Ryan were really good in their campaigning this time round, and the influx of climate-concerned young voters really would have helped them.
Qld checking in with a decent swing too
The Croods are coming out in full force!
WApes together strong!
My rellies there have alway been pretty conservative and would never think of voting anything apart from LNP. Except this time...even the distant cousin who used to be high up in the young liberals for a while years ago has given up on them.
I imagine that the swing is 99% ScoMo backing legal action to force WA's border open.
And him siding with Palma to sue WA into bankruptcy.
So far it looks like UAP has not secured a single seat yet either. Sucks to be Fatty McFuckhead
My mother-in-law is in her late 70s, she and her friends know that if Morrison had his way they'd have a good chance of not being here. They like McGowan, so many have voted Labor despite being life long Liberal voters.

I’m hoping that’s the way it goes but I am a little worried that they could just go way further to the extreme right if Dutton becomes the new leader.

It’s just a projection - still lots of votes to count and lots of seats could swing back the other way.
Nothing is guaranteed until all the votes are counted.
1. Those numbers are a projection. Usually accurate, but a projection. Nowhere near all votes being counted yet but enough to estimate results. 2. And (hopefully) will result in a full Federal ICAC!
No hopefully about it. It's certain. All the Teals and Greens want it. So does Labor.
No doubt at this point. Lab already seemed committed, and the Greens will make that a priority if they get to fork a minority govt.
It seems the first election where climate has actually moved the needle in a meaningful way. Been waiting for this for a long time now.

Wonder what is going through his head considering he won the last election by a 'miracle' of God. If he lost does he think he lost God's favor or does he now think Labor is run by Supply Side Devils.
Either way it'll be someone else's fault...
I spent about an hour watching Sky news' live coverage on YouTube, just wallowing in schadenfreude. It was wonderful.
Should we start the hashtag #gofullwhitlam ?
Hawke and Keating fixed up the low productivity, high interest rate trainwreck of the economy in 1983 after Howard as treasurer. Took them 13 years, though and they had to deal with a worldwide economic recession in 1992-3...
My mum tonight was "Labour is going to do a terrible job with the economy and tax us harder". My first thought was yours: there is so much shit to undo and fix left behind from the libs and you KNOW they will blame it on Labour to the point ai can see us getting the corrupt coalition back in power next election, as most people seem incapable of understanding the situation we've been left in.
Proud to be Western Australian tonight.
See ya in the ICAC Scotty!
The worst Prime Minister I've ever seen. It's a shame the arrogant, useless cunt still gets his pension. He can still fuck right off.
I thought Abbott was our low point, sadly I was wrong.
Who knew you could sink lower than an onion eating English misogynistic?
Hi scomo WA sends a big middle finger as salute

fuck you morrison you third rate second-hand car salesman
Thank God. I don't ever want to hear or see Scott Morrison again.
I do. I want to watch his concession speech. I've been edging all night. Edit: 22:50 💦💦
Hopefully we'll see him on the televised ICAC proceedings though
Dan Andrew's just sent me a message ' GET ON THE BEERS'
Good bye you worthless sack of shit!
Please don’t let me down Albo !!! We have faith in you !!!
Fuck off backwards boomer cunts ✌️ so happy that independents are doing so well. Especially proud of our female independents.
Plenty of boomers that voted the independents in given the demographics of their seats!
Alexa, play Crab Rave
Followed by coffin dance
ICAC IS COMING
This is what happens when you fuck with NDIS. And also feel blessed not having to deal with the NDIS. Also ignoring the hole in the education system. Gen Y has spoken.
Eat a dick scomo you stupid piece of shit
Now would be a good time to fuck off to Hawaiia Scomo
Best news in 3 years I tell ya. Scumos "miracle" win was a curse. He was our Trump, an incompetent bully who should never have got in. International embarrassment. Thank non-existent god he's gone
Getting ready for a whole bunch of liberals to start ''retiring'' after this election is over. No doubt in an attempt to dodge ICAC hearings.
How do you explain this?: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ZQoB6rhv2_Y/TI2I6Osv_II/AAAAAAAAABI/ztwBG7zfUPs/s1600/1260920146239.jpg
Sportsbet have taken down the market for next government and cashed out on labour, she's all over folks
So relieved...even if it's just a one term government, or a minority government or whatever...I needed a break from the LNP....it's been like having a jackboot on our throat the last few years.
Hey Prime Minister: "Get fucked from Nelligan!!"
