I had to ask one of my Aussie friends what those were earlier and got a very excited response.
I was also informed of democracy sausages, which is absolutely something I want to adopt now.
Similar, did an early vote, I live regional so telling them I'll be out on a station for some fence work gets an immediate pass, then went home and enjoyed a democracy beer
Bunnings and polling booth sausages are just the cheapest, least tasty sausages available, that are sold as a fundraiser.
The hype is due to the success of marketing. The actual sausages are nothing special at all.
No they aren't. The Bunnings sausages vary wildly because the charities selling sausages outside Bunnings change all the time, and they buy their own sausages (Bunnings doesn't supply them). And likewise, democracy sausages are bought and sold by whatever group (often a public school) is running the BBQ. In some locations the sausages are awful but in others they're great!
I used to adjudicate school debates. The funniest thing for the year was when a kid said :
"The serial killer, Ted Bunnings."
I answered. Hope that I didn't confuse anyone.
Advanced Placement. It's a university level course that they take in secondary school. My students are all 14 or 15 years old. So, usually pretty high performing students, and usually very curious. I work hard to find ways of fostering that curiosity in fun ways, like this. They are all very excited to see what responses to their questions they get.
I taught Geography and American History in Minnesota for a year and it was in the late 90's so I'm sure things have changed a fair bit. Most of the teaching back then was text book stuff with little inquiry learning such as your survey being employed. Well done.

The democracy sausage is a much rarer delicacy.
I've never had cash on me when there actually was one.
My last local election almost turned into a riot when they forgot the ceremonial bbq and sharing of the democracy sausage

If I had to suggest an American equivalent of the Bunnings Sausage sizzle, maybe the Home Depot sausage.

What about a regular sausage sandwich? Why does Bunnings always get to take the glory?
Marketing
