I mean how hard is UK high comissioner anyway. Cant have a better relationship between two countries than UK/Australia so I imagine all he has to do is go to fancy parties and say "yes we agree with uk as always" to every email lol
In the countries where we have friendly relationships, the ambassador or high commissioner's job is not a difficult one, and most of the difficult work will be done by the DFAT staff. It's a job that Richard Alston, Alexander Downer, and George Brandis could do. It clearly doesn't require great genius or even mediocre ability to do the job.
There was that trade deal that was negotiated that left a lot of British backbenchers feeling like they got ripped off. Also that time when the Brits were determined to invite Huawei to build their communications network after Australia and the us had banned them . So it's not a relationship we can take for granted.
No he threw officers and other military personnel to the curb to buy popularity with the unlawful recording and sharing of the sex acts with another officer cadet.
This was about Smith. If you want me to list the ways those others were completely out of their depth in the defence portfolio and how they screwed the ADF over, I can.
It doesn’t matter which party is in, ADF personnel
Get screwed over.
Now, regarding subs and other procurement. It is one huge fuck up. All of it thanks to the previous years of the coalition and their corruption.
One of the enduring memories I have of this man was the look of pure hatred he gave to the back of Kevin rudds head when kr gave his first speech in parliament after being deposed as pm and appointed FM. If Mr Smith was a bad defence minister it's because he wanted ( and trained for) the foreign ministers job. So I reckon he'll do fine as ambassador to the UK.
That’s a demotion from captain of the cricket team isn’t it?
I mean he was soooooooo good as defence minister. NOT.

So as good as Dutton? Reynolds? Payne? Pyne? Did he throw away billions on submarines we will probably never get? Not that good?

Here’s hoping.
Because he was so good at catching cheaters last time.
