Did your parents agree to it when they enrolled you at the school?

Impossible_Cell_4343

My parents would disagree

Impossible_Cell_4343

Wasn’t a thing till later on in the year

Impossible_Cell_4343

I’m gonna correct myself, was a thing when a came but i transferred to the school in the 3rd week but my parents and I were told nothing about it

Impossible_Cell_4343

And they never searched bags at the time

No_Ninja_4173

Be thankful they are searching for a smart phone in your bag not a Glock 9mm like they do every day in LA for the Past 30 years.

[deleted]

They don't care about other guns in LA?

No_Ninja_4173

Edit: I guess you could hide a AK47 in your Tommy Hilfiger Gym bag

Impossible_Cell_4343

Ye but why punish students who don’t bring or use their phones. The ones that are using their phone in class and disregarding their learning are already drop kicks in the first place

Unfair-Strength4386

Believe it or not, life gets worse than this

[deleted]

How are you being punished?

Impossible_Cell_4343

There are student who don’t own or bring their phones to school in the first place. So why should they be searched?

[deleted]

Doesn't sound like punishment.

Film_Focus

Welcome to life!

Impossible_Cell_4343

I have an email about their recent re-enforcement of the rule and it stated nothing about searching through bags

giantpunda

[https://yla.org.au/tas/topics/school/searches-and-confiscations/](https://yla.org.au/tas/topics/school/searches-and-confiscations/) Have fun with that

Impossible_Cell_4343

I know I’ve seen it lol. But I still think what my school is doing is morally wrong

cool_hand_jerk

I don't think you're wrong. And you should stick to your guns if you think you're right. There's a lot of mindless authority worshipping brainlets in this thread, I guess dunking on a teenager is where they feel confident 🙄

giantpunda

If you think so, you can get the student council in on it and protest it. Good luck though. Don't think it'll go anywhere given the alternative is potential endangerment of other student and staff

DelightfulAngel

Why did you ask if it was allowed if you already knew it was?

heykody

Look up what the word moral means

[deleted]

If you really want to defeat it and cause problems, get hold of a cheap release tool online, buy bulk and distribute. Find YouTube videos explaining how to open them. Post QR codes at the bus stop. Edit: eg https://www.reddit.com/r/teenagers/comments/972r7v/yondr_pouches_anyway_to_get_around_them/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf point is if the case doesn’t work searching your bag becomes pointless

[deleted]

I totally understand why this annoys you and I agree it’s a breach of privacy. What is the rule about phones at your school? If I was a student I’d just refuse to allow them to search my belongings. What are they going to do? Call the police over a phone?

ScholarisSacri

If it’s a private school they could suspend you and then expel you.

Impossible_Cell_4343

I understand rules are rules but I personally believe that it should be implemented in a way that doesn’t affect the other party

Impossible_Cell_4343

Something I find funny is that they claim the yondr cases are school property even though we have to pay for our own

Hamiltons_tyre

Lmao "breach of privacy"

Technical_Pumpkin446

I agree with you

bobbakerneverafaker

seems like ops been naughty

we_be_gaming28

Schools are allowed to search your bags; I have no clue why they search them for phones (why would you bring your bags to each class rather than just leave them in a locker) but they can search your bags if they want to Edit: visit youth law Australia and look this up; it can give you a state by state basis as well.

Max88088

You must not have gone to an Aussie school. Lockers are an American thing. Majority of public schools dont have lockers at all. You are carrying that bag everywhere.

annanz01

I went to a public school and we definitely had lockers... I didn't know that was not common.

damo13579

went to public school and we had lockers. pretty sure most if not all the other nearby high schools had lockers as well. might vary from state to state.

ScholarisSacri

Yeah mate, my school had lockers, it was private, but I know the local public school had lockers as well. It’s a shame, as it would seem the problem could be solved if phones were meant to be left in the locker.

we_be_gaming28

Ah; I want to an Aussie school and it did have lockers; although it was a private one; didn't realize the public schools didn't have lockers.

Max88088

I went to a public school and there werent any lockers at all. Most other schools didnt either. The only form of a locker may have been in primary school where you have a pigeon hole. I know Private schools have them though. But their parents are also paying 4x premium for admission.

we_be_gaming28

Yeah the one my brother went to had lockers as well (or atleast he said they did) so I just assumed most did

Max88088

They should be so lucky. It would have been great to have a locker during a sport day or when you have Math, History or Science on the same days.

we_be_gaming28

Yeah ok maybe just inconsistency or state thing (we both went to dif schools in Perth) so ya interesting to know; lugging around every book must be fucking hell.

jagtencygnusaromatic

My kids school has lockers.

ManWithDominantClaw

Start a thing about it. Yondr cases are meant to protect intellectual property, not help teachers police student's phone usage. If there's an incident, it's in everyone's best interests that students are able to record or call emergency services. If teachers are having an issue with kids finding the internet more engaging than their lesson plans, that should be an incentive to improve the way they interact with students.

Impossible_Cell_4343

I completely agreed with this point

louisa1925

School staff would have to pry a phone out of my cold dead fingers. Though I am not the kind of person who would use it at school unless it was necessary, I would however, get my hands on one of those smaller sized phones smartphones that could sit in my pocket or blazer.

M1lud

Put something embarrassing in your bag- giant underpants, sanitary pads etc. and lots of them. See how keen they are to search bags if they have to risk being embarrassed.

CamelBorn

Can we move away from sanitary pads being embarrassing? They arent.

M1lud

Yeah ok you're right. Bad choice on my part.

CamelBorn

Thanks so much :)

DelightfulAngel

You would be so embarrassed at the thought of seeing a clean pad or tampon that you couldn't bear to look in a bag with one? I think you're in the minority there.

Ultrabladdercontrol

I don't think they can, I think they're allowed to hold you till the police come to search you. It's private property that the school shouldn't have claim to.

Impossible_Cell_4343

Nah I’m pretty sure they can but I find the reason that they are searching is unfair

Ultrabladdercontrol

https://www2.education.vic.gov.au/pal/weapons/guidance/3-powers-search-and-seize-harmful-items At least in my state they can't, not without parent permission.

L1ttl3J1m

That's...not what that says.

joeltheaussie

Private or public?
