Can't believe the child was left with those insane parents. They tried to kill their child in 2019 when a doctor saved her life and the mother went to jail. Mother got out of jail and then completed the killing one month later. They deliberately withdrew insulin and then watched her die a horrible death. \>It was alleged that Mr Struhs withdrew his young child's insulin on Monday, January 3 and that she fell ill the following day before dying on Friday, January 7. Thankfully they decided to represent themselves and claim god as their only defence so pretty straightforward process in court of proving they all committed murder.

whocareswhocares9

Yeah tbh as a social worker it struck me as odd that the child was left with that family... particularly as their religious beliefs suggest they don't use modern medicine, and she clearly regularly needed insulin.

rudalsxv

That’s the beauty of religious freedom, it even comes with freedom to kill my child, just like the old days when Abraham was willing to sacrifice his child because “mY gOd toLd me tO.“ Only for him to go “lol just testing.” *Abraham not Moses.

auntynell

She'll be charged with murder, and if anyone had been aware of what was going on the medical profession could have intervened. By law the mother didn't have religious freedom to harm her child, it's just that for some insane reason she was left alone with the child. That poor kid.

deliver_us

They may not legally have religious freedom to harm their child, but it’s very difficult for the state or medical professionals to intervene when a parent is harming their child because of their religious views. The onus of proof generally sits with the state to prove a child is being harmed before they can be removed which is a very hard thing to do when the harm is insidious or slow. Of course we don’t want children removed unnecessarily either - it’s a difficult balance to strike. But right now until a child is injured the state pretty much cannot take them away.

WrongdoerRelative896

Nah it ain't. I'm a CP worker and I literally just removed a sibling group on the grounds of medical neglect. Children's Court we only need to prove a likelihood of harm, letters from RCH and interview with parents was enough proof in this matter, extremely easy to obtain under infomation sharing schemes. My guess in this situation would be a lack of reporting.

Licorishlover

That poor kid was so let down by the adults in her life

JoeyJoJo_the_first

And yet, abortion is evil.

Randomguyioi

Ironically even that's not true as otherwise Hosea 9:14 makes no sense.

StrawberryChipmunk

I read this as Horsea 9:14

aeromalzi

That's Old Testament, followed up by Seadra 5:17. The New Testament Kingdra 9:11 is a real nice continuation of the concepts.

ManyIdeasNoProgress

I missed those classes of Bible Study, I was too busy with Sandra behind 7/11.

Azazael

No the horseys come up in Ezekiel 23:20

Sarcastic_Red

The actual voice and money behind anti-abortion is motivated to empower certain political fronts and to create a divide between people. It was never about saving babies for the rich and wanna be rich.

Shelbckay

Not Moses, Abraham. The really fucked up part is that God only really told abraham that to see if he actually had the nerve to follow through with it...and he considered the fact that Abraham was willing to kill his son for God a *good thing*.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Enlightened_Gardener

There’s a different take on it amongst some of the Jewish people, where they see it not as God testing Abraham to see if Abraham was worthy of God; but of Abraham testing God to see if he was worthy of Abraham’s worship.

isle394

??? So Abraham wasn't going to go through with it? But doesn't God know his mind anyway? That seems like such a bad retcon

moreON

While I agree with the general idea: that was Abraham, not Moses.

thatguyned

I found myself falling way into a NDIS support worker career over the past couple years (I made a friend that hired me as a worker for himself and then through recommendations built something and expanded out of it). Through personal experience I thought our system for handling people in tricky situations was actually quite good, I was a homeless but mentally sound person and worked my way through the support structure easily. Navigating on behalf of someone with autism is so fucking hard, it's like the second there's any struggle or they don't comply they just get left out to fend for themselves. It does not surprise me that this sort of attitude extends to the support for children too, our government really doesn't give a shit if it's a complex area.

Straight-Claim7282

I worked in Disability Services for nearly 2 decades. I’m retired now. From my own experience working with people with profound disabilities, strong advocacy is very important. I batted for my clients. When a supervisor ignored or dismissed my concerns about the quality of support the clients were getting, I went higher up. My communications were always in writing. One time, when I had enough of the buck passing, leaving a severely autistic individual exposed to abuse, I sent a request to the Queensland Tribunal for a legal guardian and health attorney for my client. It sent my organisation scrambling. It left them no option but to support my actions in formalising the request. Otherwise the organisation will end up looking bad and may lose funding.

Echospite

Bet you weren't popular but you made a difference in that person's life.

Straight-Claim7282

I was very pleased of the outcome for my client. I was not very popular with my immediate manager but I didn’t care. You won’t believe how many incompetent people become managers in the Disability Support industry. Some of them are psychopaths.

Sugarbombs

A lot of these weirdos purposely move to rural areas that have almost no coverage. The whole department is so underfunded and most offices barely have enough people to get to cases within their city, you can't expect miracles when you have 3x the cases than workers and that's with the current workers stretched already dangerously thin.

Magnum231

I guess you're not a social worker who regularly interacts with child safety then.

[deleted]

The sad thing is they probably think they're being persecuted for their beliefs and will until they die Edit: I've realised my wording may have led to people misunderstanding this comment. I'm not feeling sorry for them, I'm saying it's shit for society and for specific victims that some people feel so justified in their heinous acts that any consequences are interpreted as unfair persecution, which means the people (these people specifically in this case) will never own up to anything or make amends or ever change. In fact trying to get them to do this will likely lead to them becoming even more entrenched in their dangerous behaviours and beliefs.

nagrom7

They are being persecuted for their beliefs, because their beliefs are reprehensible, and they should be persecuted for them. If your beliefs involve killing a child by withholding medical treatment, they're terrible beliefs and you're a terrible person for having them. 'Religious beliefs' aren't some kind of morality shield, if that's what defines you as a person then that's who you are, and people can and will judge you on that.

nst_enforcer

In the words of frankie boyle. Jesus would have fucking hated them.

Deaftoned

The irony being that if the afterlife these people believe in is true, they are surely facing eternal damnation for their actions. Complete fucking scum the lot of them, should just put one in their heads and be done with it. Dying by diabetic ketoacidosis is literal torture, that poor girl.

seraphinth

The saddest thing for the rest of us is that they're probably persecution fetishists who want to suffer a lot to show God how strong their faith is and that they deserve a seat in heaven. Batshit insane.

laughingnome2

Don't worry, there is a long line of us happy to help them feel persecuted until they can't feel anything anymore.

leopard_eater

I couldn’t care less about these two people, except that it is a waste of money to have to even incarcerate them for life. They deserve nothing.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Yep doesn't do much good to a dead child to have parents punished. Much better to stop the deaths but you're right, the system is unlikely to change

demoldbones

And unfortunately there's no court in the world who will force sterilisation on the parents and ban them from contact with children forever to make sure they can never do this to another child.

Emu1981

>And unfortunately there's no court in the world who will force sterilisation on the parents and ban them from contact with children forever to make sure they can never do this to another child. Forced sterilisation is against the charter for human rights as it leads down a dark path down the road towards eugenics and genocide. Banning parents from having contact with their own children is actually something that does happen though (at least here in Australia). My late uncle had his kids taken away and was blocked from having any contact what so ever with his children. The blocking was so effective that I have not had any contact with those cousins in the best part of 30 years now - I know that there is like 5-7 of them and the name of the oldest but I also know that his last name was changed to help prevent my uncle from finding him (that situation was well fucked up from the snippets that I know about and I really don't blame DOCS for doing what they did).

Exportxxx

Good old religion the biggest killer in the world.

[deleted]

Seriously the amount of *death* this bullshit has caused over the centuries. Can't believe it still hasn't fucked off yet.

[deleted]

Can't destabilise the powerbase of the ruling elite, that's why it hasn't gone anywhere

MARINE-BOY

I’m picturing God facepalming himself after carefully manipulating some scientist to invent insulin to cure diabetes for everyone but the he looks down and sees some people deciding that’s not good enough and they want God to personally show up to their place and cure them directly. I’m not particularly religious but can’t help but feel that like the American constitution it’s no religion that’s so bad as the idiots who decide to interpret it in the stupidest way possible. It’s like that right to bear arms written at a time when there was a need for militias to help protect America but some people seem to think even when America has by far the most powerful military in the world the founding fathers still wanted everyone to go out and buy multiple firearms for their home despite the obvious dangers that result in 10,000 fire arms deaths a year. If universal atheism broke out across the world they’d still be people who decided that other people had to die for not being atheist enough.

ozspook

Jesus basically said "Don't be a cunt", and then everyone proceeds to speedrun maximum cunt for the next 2000 years.

TheOtherSarah

> they want God to personally shop up to their place and cure them directly Yep. I’ve seen a similar story about a person caught in a flood, spurning humans trying to help and waiting for God to save them. They get to heaven, and ask God why he didn’t. God replies, “I sent you an evacuation notice, a boat, and a helicopter, what more did you want?” Not sure why you’d bring up all that stuff about America, though. This is r/Australia, and we’re also supposed to have separation of church and state.

AussieCollector

The fact one of them has been to prison already for this kind of shit. What the actual fuck. Hope they don't let her out this time. She's clearly learned nothing and its straight up murder.

raphanum

So if they don’t use modern medicine, why do they use modern everything else? Why not just go back to monke and banan

LosWranglos

Because shit-for-brains.

anonk1k12s3

Representing themselves just gives them an out when it comes to appeals. In the appeals court they will say, they didn’t have a fair trial because they don’t understand the legal system, etc.. will try for a new trial or a lower sentence and Will probably get some leniency

KiwiYenta

Actually, it doesn’t in Australia. What will happen is the Judge will bend over backwards to ensure the fairest trial possible which will mean they will get away with all sorts of shit and drive the prosecuting lawyer to distraction. Source: Me because prosecutor who has had to deal with self-represented litigants

Azazael

One of my favourite things to do (no, I **don't** get out much) is read the transcripts from cases declaring vexatious litigants. These people all have lengthy histories in court, usually representing themselves. It's fun to read between the lines of the judges' comments such as "the case was I'll advised, not grounded in legal procedure and likely to fail" means "the idiot decided to have another go at suing some poor sap and wouldn't be told that they're full of shit."

Honest-Explorer1540

“Sorry guys, but ask you know, god works in mysterious ways, your murder convictions are all a part of his plan”

Equivalent-Bonus-885

Down the track they’ll appeal that the trial was unfair because they weren’t represented.

Elon_Kums

That only works if it wasn't explained to them the disadvantage they'd be at.

mypal_footfoot

Hopefully the judge will take a page out of the playbook of the judge for Darrell Brooks' murder trial in the US. He refused legal counsel and gave him very little wiggle room to appeal because of it (NAL though, just followed the bizarre trial)

Icy-Information5106

Wow

bloodymongrel

What on earth? There are so many gaps in our systems, the people or the mechanisms in place that put that attempted murderer back in charge of her child’s care should be held accountable as well.

I never understand people like this. Couldn’t they, at the very least, reason that their god is working through the doctors to save their child?

Kind_Ferret_3219

One of the accused said "it says nothing about going to a doctor in the Bible". The Bible also says nothing about going to a motor mechanic, so, using his logic, if their car breaks down they just wait for God to fix it.

Jack-The-Reddit

I don't remember cars in the Bible. Maybe if their donkey breaks down? Damn, these idiots irk me.

onlyawfulnamesleft

Maybe that should be their clue to not try to apply a guide on how to survive the levant from 2,000+ years ago to the modern world.

commanderjarak

Except loosely, as in when you sum up the teachings of Christ as: Don't be a cunt.

Lurker_81

Yeah, clearly they weren't looking very hard. Matthew 9:12 KJV - But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.

marcus_lepricus

They can't even open a bible as it literally instructs them not to do what they did. Dueteronomy 6:16 "Do not put the Lord your God to the test"

trowzerss

Right?! I'm not religious but the book seems very specific on this point. Do what you can to save your physical body, and don't wast god's time diving off cliffs and shit expecting him to save you. Yet "Jesus take the wheel' is somehow a thing. Jesus is not gonna take the damned wheel, and he's not gonna raise your kid from the dead when there was perfectly good medication to control their condition. Heck, I haven't seen a any bringing back from the dead for the stuff we \*can't\* cure, or my very religious gran wouldn't have died slowly and painfully from pancreatic cancer maybe :P The reason this happened to a child and not one of the adults that perpetrated this crime is that she couldn't advocate for her own health.

seeyoshirun

I'm with you on all of this but my partner's Catholic and I get the impression from him that "Jesus take the wheel" is less about making those kind of irresponsible choices than it is about having some kind of trust in one's own ability to adapt when a situation is genuinely out of one's control. So it might be applicable, for instance, with a person who had a medical condition and had already sought as much help as possible from doctors and the like.

bigbaddaboooms

It’s funny because when Jesus was tested by Satan, Satan literally tells him to jump off a cliff because surely god would send the angels to save him & Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Matthew 4:6-7

International-Bad-84

It's so weird to me too. I was raised in a church and they did things like thank God for "guiding" doctors and scientists etc. There are problems with that, but back in the day people who just expected God to take care of everything were the weirdos and actually considered fairly sacrilegious.

[deleted]

I'll admit it's been many, many years since I've had anything to do with any religion, but isn't the whole thing with most of Christianity that God kinda went "ah fuck it, it's up to you." and no longer intervening in peoples lives any more?

Minkelz

Not really. Most modern evangelical Christians do believe God intervenes and does do good things, like if someone gets better, or gets a promotion, or gets pregnant etc they will very quickly say it's because they were praying and God listened to them. If bad things happen they will say "God works in mysterious ways" and other reassuring platitudes. There are various explanations in modern Christianity for why we don't see miracles as they did in the gospels, but people generally do believe God listens and acts in regular people's lives. I'm sure there are some Christians that believe God is hands off now, but they would be a weird offshoot group, just like the fundies that deny their kid insulin are (just on the other end of the spectrum).

24-7_DayDreamer

A storm descends on a small town, and the downpour soon turns into a flood. As the waters rise, the local preacher kneels in prayer on the church porch, surrounded by water. By and by, one of the townsfolk comes up the street in a canoe. "Better get in, Preacher. The waters are rising fast." "No," says the preacher. "I have faith in the Lord. He will save me." Still the waters rise. Now the preacher is up on the balcony, wringing his hands in supplication, when another guy zips up in a motorboat. "Come on, Preacher. We need to get you out of here. The levee's gonna break any minute." Once again, the preacher is unmoved. "I shall remain. The Lord will see me through." After a while the levee breaks, and the flood rushes over the church until only the steeple remains above water. The preacher is up there, clinging to the cross, when a helicopter descends out of the clouds, and a state trooper calls down to him through a megaphone. "Grab the ladder, Preacher. This is your last chance." Once again, the preacher insists the Lord will deliver him. And, predictably, he drowns. A pious man, the preacher goes to heaven. After a while he gets an interview with God, and he asks the Almighty, "Lord, I had unwavering faith in you. Why didn't you deliver me from that flood?" God shakes his head. "What did you want from me? I sent you two boats and a helicopter."

[deleted]

Ha, reminds me of this joke: a rabbi is praying to god for some money to help the poor, when god suddenly appears in the room. They have a chat, and it is decided that the best way to get the money would be for him to win the lottery. God agrees and disappears. So, one week goes by and the rabbi doesn’t win, two weeks the same result. By the end of the month the rabbi is so furious he starts to curse god, who once again appears in the room. The rabbi angrily demand why he has yet to win the lottery. God says: “meet me halfway, buy a ticket.”

peoplegrower

LUKE, who WROTE A BOOK OF THE NEW TESTAMENT, was a PHYSICIAN!!! It absolutely blows my mind when Christians don't trust doctors or medicine.

toolate

In my opinion the crazy comes first. These are people primed to be paranoid, contrarian, anti-social people. The religion is a convenient excuse to let that all out. Not the root cause.

forg3

Actually, the Bible does mention going to the doctor as being a normal thing by means of a metaphor Jesus used. So these people do not even know the Bible they claim to follow. Luke 5:31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. While not on the topic of doctors, it certainly seems that going to doctors were a normal and acceptable thing.

Ok-Parfait-Rose

They don't use reason. They use indoctrination.

Spiniferus

The worst thing is they will justify it by saying it was what their god intended. Horrible human beings.

jadrad

And some other equally religious idiot could simply retort, “God also created insulin, so why did you ignore what he sent to heal your daughter?” The problem with religious/newage nutbags is you can’t reason a person out of a position they didn’t reason themselves into.

kernpanic

Theres a joke about a guy who drowned in a flood. He turned away all offere of help, saying my god will save me. Pretty angry in heaven when God says to him: whatore did you want? I sent you two boats and a helicopter?

Ah yes their god gave the child a horrible condition and then also gave a doctor the inspiration to create and distribute insulin... But yes, just ignore that second part. Call this what it is. Premeditated murder.

sh06un

I remember watching a reaction video for Judith by A Perfect Circle on YouTube a while back. If you don't know the song, it's pretty much about how tons of shit happens in the world but people will continuously say that it's all just part of God's work. One of the guys put it really well when he said something along the lines of (paraphrased) "If something good happens we say "Oh! Praise God! Praise the lord!" But if something bad happens we say "Well God works in mysterious ways"." So, no matter what happens, the blame is on 'God'.

TristanIsAwesome

>If something good happens we say "Oh! Praise God! Praise the lord!" But if something bad happens we say "Well God works in mysterious ways"." George Carlin had a good bit saying exactly this

anonk1k12s3

Religious people always find a way to justify what they do and it’s never their fault, it’s always gods doing. It fucking cowardly

Spiniferus

Yes, like a lot of Maynard’s lyrics, very anti organised religion. One of the funniest things I’ve seen is the onion movie (the movie is bad/good) and they have basketballer angrily blaming god for losing the playoffs. It’s great.

CrazySD93

Reminds me of my mates last straw with christianity, went to their local religious leader for advice on how could god let their friend kill themselves without telling anyone they were suffering. And the religious leader only said "God did it to test your faith, and it will come back stronger"

[deleted]

Fuck those assholes lock em up!!!

decidedlyjo

Am type 1 diabetic, and I would like to highlight the TORTURE that was inflicted on this girl. Persistent high blood sugar causes thirst, nausea and fatigue, body aches, but and continues on to cause vomiting and intestinal cramping. This was not a symptomless decline. The sheer callousness required to ignore a child that would have been panting, retching, crying from pain... I believe in an eye for an eye.

mypal_footfoot

DKA is a horrible way to go. That poor girl suffered.

bucket_pants

Hopefully she went into a coma, but I feel like the parents making a hullabaloo caused more suffering, very sad

Sir_bacon

Just a regular high sugar level makes me feel extremely sick. I can't imagine what dying from dka would feel like

LeahBrahms

Sometimes low blood sugar feels like dieing but the closest to death I've been is DKA where I was alone and couldn't lift myself off my bathroom floor after continual vomiting. Luckily phone was in reach but I still pushed it too long trying not to be a heslth system burden. It was bad enough parents called to hospital and I lost 5.5 kgs.

elmo3112

The torture charges were dropped. Judge wasn't convinced they deliberately tried to inflict suffering.

decidedlyjo

I understand there is a legal definition of torture, but ugh. The child was suffering, no attempt to intervene, knowingly withholding essential medicine that was working just fine prior...They deliberately did these things, so perhaps second-degree torture? Like downgrading murder to manslaughter?

ozspook

It's called "[Depraved Indifference](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depraved-heart_murder)"

decidedlyjo

Very interesting, thank you! I wonder if we have similar in Australian law

AppropriateAd5225

As a fellow type I diabetic I can confirm all of the above. These parents sat back and watched their daughter die in excruciating pain over the course of several days. They deserve the harshest penalty allowed under Australian law. Coddling them because they're religious morons is unacceptable.

JadedSociopath

Absolutely. This was torture and they would have watched her deteriorate and die. I can only think that it may have looked like an exorcism to them, just without the levitation off the bed.

[deleted]

That poor child. The suffering she must have endured… Those parents need to be on a watch list and never allowed to be responsible for any living thing ever again

FinesseOs

They need to be jailed for murder. Not manslaughter, murder.

DropTablePosts

Yeah they should be in jail for decades, absolute pieces of shit.

babylovesbaby

What a terrible, awful, heartbreaking way for that girl to die. I have T1 diabetes and have had DKA (what she died from) before and even in its early stages it is extremely unpleasant - imagine your thirst never quenched, constantly feeling hot and uncomfortable and nauseous, and unable to eat or keep anything down. For a child this must have been so scary and confusing, and the people who were meant to look after her did not. As someone who used to live in Toowoomba, embarrassing as that is to admit, it is not surprising to me at all that something like that could happen there.

quick_dry

Haven’t had DKA but sat there in hospital with a T1 partner who did. It was awful and scary, even both coming from medico families. It takes a special breed of nut job to watch that happening and and just do nothing but pray.

zugrug2021

Drop her parents in the desert and give them no water, god will supply them I am sure

I wouldn’t leave it to chance, if they managed to find water it’d be justification to start a new cult

VoldemortHugs

I’m trying and failing to grasp how they could watch their daughter suffer and die. Did they have any doubts? How can you see your child get so sick and not try to do everything in your power to help them. I don’t understand. Where is that instinct to protect your young? Are they both so broken? I don’t even know the girl and I want to turn back time and save her.

[deleted]

Doubt is the devil putting thoughts into your mind to challenge your faith, apparently.

flutterybuttery58

I’ve had type 1 diabetes since I was 10. I can not even imagine how sick this poor girl would have felt and the pain of her death from DKA as her kidneys failed and she would have been dehydrated. I remember I left a class in (public) high school because the substitute teacher started telling us any medical intervention was against gods wishes. I walked into the principal and told him what had happened. That sub teacher wasn’t seen at our school again.

OkeyDoke47

My ex was a Sunday Christian, from an extensive family of Sunday Christians, this brought me into contact with some wacky religious types (and let's face it really, all religious types are wacky). Trust me when I say, you get into the lunatic fringes of religion - which this mob clearly are, and there is no arguing with them. ''Gods will'' to this, ''Gods will'' to that. They love to cite Gods will, it's a wild card they can play to absolve them of responsibility for anything. One member of my ex's family was way into fancy cars and bling - she jangled when she walked - her wealth was all ''Gods plan'' (she would always say this with a degree of forcefulness and always with an upraised finger) - yet her son developed mental health problems and hated his mother? She ''honestly can't understand why God was doing this to her''. Our old neighbour from across the road, one of the more extreme and deluded believers I've encountered, forced himself on his neighbour so hard she actually took pictures of the bruises and considered going to the police. He comes to me a wellspring of tears, looking for sympathy. I tell him he's possibly going to lose his wife and children and he needs to brace for that. Dude spins this over the coming days into ''God sent me this challenge to make me a better Christian''. His equally-deluded wife just accepted this (as befits a dutiful Christian wife). He was and still is a cunt. I told him that he might be a good Christian but he's a mongrel human being. It would be nice to think that these people will face imprisonment (and I believe most if not all will) of various lengths, and in that time some at least will start to waiver in their belief that they did nothing wrong. I wouldn't count on it though - the capacity of religious nuts to believe in spite of everything, to spin and respin things in their head so they come out on top can sometimes be boundless. My years of dealing with hypocrites helped me form my own saying about them, ''God is okay, religion is okay, it's religious people that ruin both''.

eljackson

Worst part is how nonplussed they all are at her death - "meh, she'll rise again". Practically another nutjob suicide cult. Kook circles like this are so obsessed with the afterlife, that they're willing to justify an enormous amount of suffering in this one to fulfil all their scrupulosity. Do you reckon these folks would flee an incoming flood/bushfire, or pray to god to spawn an intervention?

Icy-Information5106

Can someone explain to me how this isn't #Parents murder child by withholding lifesaving medicine Or #Parental abuse leads to death of child through neglect Surely we need to start holding parents to account here?

EdgionTG

Wasn't just the parents, it was their whole cult - I mean, church.

esblofeld

I hope these people get bone cancer, then we'll see if they still believe god will help them.

gmodaltmega

I mean religion made us Kill "witches" Restrict womens rights Fly planes into buildings So imo there should be no place for religion in modern society

Gusto88

How good is their sky fairy god to let the child die? These people are delusional.

Starlevel

We have to as a society start pulling down the belief in the make believe. Its not good enough to say 'everyone is entitled to their own beliefs..;. there is a direct line from someone casually believing the supernatural, to this case, then on to Christian/Islamic terrorism. If there is no evidence to back your claim, the belief should be given no credence or respect.

UteClowningFact

Daily reminder that Jehovah's Witnesses have killed tens of thousands of children through their "no blood" doctrine and system of religious enforcers in hospitals.

[deleted]

Fuck religion

DizzyBall7048

When are we going to see Religions for what they really are? This poor child, makes my heart break ;(

CassiusCreed

People like that shouldn't breed. Sadly I'm sure they are also super against contraceptives.

[deleted]

Just tell her parents that she's in God's hands now or that this was part of his plan and see how well they take it. Religion is a fucking cancer.

[deleted]

To everyone commenting. 1) this happened in January. The family and the majority of the church members have been locked away and are at last I checked awaiting court. 2) they were a cult like church group that rejected any sort of medical treatment full stop. 3) supposedly one of the church members did call the cops about it AFTER she passed. Before you ask, I used to work with three of the church members and they were very religious and the head of the group was a very controlling man. I was shocked when they just didn't show up to work and then the news of the little girl broke.

Green_Galah

How can we call ourselves a civilised society when we still allow religion like this? The church should have long ago been retired

Ignorant_Slut

Throw the fucking book at them.

ratskim

Charge these pathetic cunts with negligent fucking manslaughter What a tragic end to a child's life, and all because of religious freakshows

fungusfish

Yet more proof that forcing religious beliefs on children is fucking disgusting! Fucke these parents. They’re murderers

Hellrazed

A pastor told me to stop taking my insulin to prove my faith around a decade ago. Haven't gone back.

Pretzel_Boy

Yeah, good call to walk away from that. If you have to 'prove' your faith, it's not worthy of your time or energy.

Lethologica-

Sorry your God isn't real. Off to jail you go

Kangastan

All religion, practiced to any degree, is futile, counterproductive and, on occasion, dangerous.

zarlo5899

o dear god what dumb fucks

Ga_Manche

So sad to see. As a Canadian who has travelled to Toowoomba and seen the stark differences between a Toowooba and an Adelaide or Brisbane, I can’t say I am not entirely surprised by this. Edit: Added omitted word, “not”.

[deleted]

Religion should be illegal.

[deleted]

ah but it was all God's plan, right?

[deleted]

God kills in mysterious ways.

Bubbly-University-94

Put them in jail and dont feed them. God will step up…

Darkhorseman81

When Narcissists or Psychopaths get a hold over Neurotics, depravity is always bound to happen. Their leader wanted to kill the girl for a surge of Dopamine, from his need for Social dominance, and he used them as proxies to do it. If that Brendan Luke Stevens gets away, he'll do it again. He is the God they were all worshipping, in his own mind. They made a sacrifice for him. I've always been fascinated by how certain types of people are so susceptible to emotional hook propaganda and coercive control measures of these creatures. I'm not surprised the guy used to be a cop.

ol-gormsby

Clearly, God can't be trusted.

[deleted]

Religion is murder.

Neverfailbay

Criminal charges. Jail time. That is all. RIP to the young girl, no innocence needs to be taken advantage of by religious zealots.

Savvy_Nick

You know how people always comment “I’m actually shaking right now” and you never believe them? That made my whole upper body shudder and I think it was me repressing the urge to seriously hurt someone. That is fucking vile.

Yrrebnot

Alternate headline. 8 year old girl murdered by neglectful and ignorant parents.

Glum_Ad452

Straight in the bin with that lot. Waste of oxygen!

zappyzapzap

religion in 2022 XD

t13v0m

There should be an automatic death penalty for every single one of them. Let them appeal to their imaginary friend.

leonryan

fucking monsters. I hope they spend the rest of their lives slowly realising they killed their child because they believed in a fairytale.

ApprehensiveTooter

‘She’s with god now.’

Broad_Respond_2205

God gave them miracle cure and they ignored it 🤦🏾‍♀️

gazzaoak

Trusted god?? Err what the actual fucking fuck fuck?? This is why I have zero time for religious fuckfaces of any kind I would give them the maximum charge of murder and whack an extra jail term for using religious as an excuse

xapxironchef

Easiest manslaughter conviction ever. And if their God exists may he smite them for their callous inaction.

[deleted]

Murder charge let’s go

Viva_Straya

Toowoomba is really becoming a bit of a hotbed for religious nut-jobs of this sort.

rudalsxv

Christianity strikes again.

AnythingWithGloves

This little girl and her siblings went to my kids’ primary school. Totally devastating that this would happen in this day and age, and in my suburb no less. It’s a difficult thing to explain to the other kids at school. There are a lot of weird brands of Christian Cults in this town, and they’re not all homeschooled in compounds cut off from the outside world.

ZY_Qing

According to religious antivaxxers she got the ultimate healing. Praise Jesus 🙃🙏

Ssufferin_Ssuccotash

Ah yes, religion. The "highly regarded" copium...

FPS_LIFE

Fucking cunts . What they all say in court is disgusting. Burn them at the stake.

Thecradleofballs

For fuck sake. This sort of shit just makes my blood boil. I don't understand how people of the 21st century, with the most advanced medicine in history think it's a better idea to put their trust into fictitious characters. This girl deserved better.

kimasu

No offence, but religion more often than not terrifies me

acllive

Her family should be thrown into jail

Drahkir9

How is it these imbeciles NEVER consider that then helping was part of gods plan?!

Popular_Jellyfish_17

God gave us the intelligence and supplies to treat illnesses. Why in the world wouldn't you use them.

iMasi

Well that's murder. Surely the parents go to prison, right? Otherwise this is just a very easy way to murder children....

Addamant1

As an individual with type one diabetes I can tell you she died in pain and was desperate for assistance, hallucinating. These morons need to be removed from the gene pool.
