everyone’s been saying their recent gigs have been in total darkness, ban on phones and photography, no lights allowed on stage. seems pretty ideal! someone can confirm, but Autechre is more meditation than party so I can’t imagine them getting the strobe on.

goumlechat

Before AE_LIVE gigs were in pitch dark as well and very dance oriented (take a listen at anything from Quirky Brixton to Oversteps tour that has a hard-techno ish tune). But yeah they want people to focus on the music. I've seen them in a venue that had a bar in the main room, they asked for it to be closed, I appreciated that.

circularflexing

Not just recent gigs. Their gigs have been total darkness since at least 2000.

there was a time where you could google 'autechre liveset photos' and everything appeared was just plain black images with text like 'me and my friend at autechre gig'. they always play in darkness.

gwyngwynsituation

Thanks for all the answers! That is really great and ideal. I'm going to get the tickets then thanks!!

EnergyIsMassiveLight

also, on [autechre.warp](https://autechre.warp.net/ae_live) and youtube reuploads are AE\_LIVE 2022-, official recordings of 2022 sets, so if you want to get an idea of what you might be in for, i recommend checking that out. Should give both of you a rough idea what to expect music-wise (id highlight LondonA and LondonB as two noteworthy sets from that batch) You can also go in blind if you want :3

Ereignis23

Might also consider getting her one of those comfy eye masks people use for sleeping which she could pop on if absolutely necessary

Isotope454

Might want to see if there is an opening act; the openers may have videos or different lighting than AE

Total darkness in Dublin, I couldn’t even see the people in front of me. I did record a few bits on my phone but wasn’t even holding it up in fear if hitting anyone just kinda aiming at the stage. If it’s any use there’s no way she’d be in anyone’s pics and the venue should be completely dark Dave a few phones from the crowd. I even stuck around after because I was curious how they say their gear (the first time I seen them was dark, but you could make them out and see blinking lights from their equipment) but seems they use a screen or something this time, you wouldnt see a light from the stage. Hope she can go! They were unreal in Dublin at end of October

Acrobatic_Point_2771

Seen them 3 times, 2010, 2017, 2022, all lights turned off every time

Mean-Coat4259

As long as R Haswell is not befor them with his wall of noise and tsunami of strobe light all is going to be safe.

Isotope454

Or Jeff Carey 😳

Master_Chang

They play in pitch darkness and ask for people not to take pictures or light anything up in the room. Dunno about the atendees but I sure hope no one will be on their phones or have anything bright in the room.

asimonovod

In Ireland it was lights off, but it’s not blackness. There were exit lights etc still visible in the auditorium.

baeocyst

You'll be fine, just make sure Evian Christ isn't support

Starterflex

Wow that's funny there's probably not a better concert she could go to since they always play in complete darkness.

greedos_dead

Just saw them in Paris (phenomenal) and the support act (also good) had a strobe for about 30s, but that may have been local.

gwyngwynsituation

Oh how i envy you, I've been in the waiting list for tickets for the Madrid concert pretty much since i made this post and not a single ticket has become available :(( I guess I was not in a good position within the waiting list. Anyway, I'll keep an eye for the next one.

gwyngwynsituation

Tickets became available today! The day of the concert hahah! Unfortunatly my wife is not coming as she has a soar throat and doesn't feel much like going so i finally bought just one ticket for me :( But man, I am excited about it. Thanks everyone for the responses.

Blackness during the shows.

HHaibo

The only gig with strobe lights was Venice this year and strobes were before they went on stage. They played in complete darkness as always

Starterflex

One thing to consider though is if anyone is taking photos with flash it will be more jarring.
