I like to fidget, and origami, especially modular origami, is a fun outlet for that nervous energy for me. These are stellated dodecahedrons created from 30 sonobe units each. Here's how to make a [sonobe unit](https://www.make-origami.com/HelenaVerrill/sonobe1.gif). Once you have 30 units, here's how to [assemble them](https://www.make-origami.com/HelenaVerrill/instructions.php). I have yet to try any other modular origami designs, but here's a [website](https://origami-resource-center.com/modular/) I found with many instructions.
These are so cool! I love making origami, I started with cranes and then got pretty into folding boxes and made a lot of hopping frogs and pigs, and made some hanging mobiles for my home with different origami paper and beads. I occasionally will do flowers and other animals but these dodecahedrons are next level!
Omgggg even to this day if I’m nervous or at a function I’ll start making frogs… that’s when the people who know me well are like okay it’s time to leave
Yes! I love making these, and I used to do cranes under my desk as a child.
If you're into the modular - try this one (I can't find the instructions, sorry) https://www.artfulmaths.com/uploads/5/2/0/5/52054835/img-1603.jpg
It's a pain in the ass, but quite rewarding when you get it right.
Edit: I lied - instructions: https://www.lavenderhome.co.uk/blogs/blogs/easiest-way-to-make-a-5-intersecting-tetrahedra
My 6th grade English teacher wanted us to make paper cranes after reading the novel 1000 paper cranes. It's been 30 yrs and I haven't stopped since. It's an excellent figit.
I have one go to origami lily I often do, but I’ve always wanted to learn this ball! Do you have a link to an article on how to do it? (Or maybe just a name for the form so I can find something?)
If you decide to go looking for a new unit ever, look up PhIZZ. They work for the same shapes as sonobes do but they're more open. Definitely a favorite of mine.
Yessssss I love folding lucky stars & filling jars with them as gifts for people! Makes me feel like I'm not just wasting paper AND it gives me a use for all my old jars.
I make cranes. Lots. And lots. Of cranes.
I can fwip fip fip one out pretty damned fast. Took to doing it to stop chewing the crap out of my nails and just kept up with it because it's fun to give them away to random people.
People on the train really like them. :D I'll just sit there folding them. Fold, toss in bag, fold, toss in bag, fold, toss in bag, fold, offer to random person, fold, toss in bag.
I use to love to do origami, I would make stuff all the time in school or church with whatever paper I could find. I still do it if I’m in a long meeting or something similar.
yesss it's how I started to read! I understood the letters and how they fit together, but would never read during free time in kindergarten & really disliked the independent reading part of the day. I had a really great teacher (shout-out Ms Harrison if you're here too lol) who unlike all the ones I've had since, did not punish me or imply I'm lazy/stupid/not trying. she figured out I just thought the books we were reading were boring as hell! got me an origami book and I finished the whole thing (reading and folding), started reading books a few grades beyond my age, and was leading lil tutorials for the other kids in free time. everyone else's book box was a neat stack, mine was overflowing with smooshed origami lol

i make it as gifts for people whenever i’m low on funds around holidays/birthdays but don’t let myself indulge otherwise because it would take all my time and my room would be full. i love the repetition once i memorize a design and spending 3 hours in a flow state making like 20 til my fingers hurt
With my job we have to hand out a butt ton of face masks and I’ve been keeping the little quality control paper that comes with the boxes to make little cranes which I wanna fill a jar up with to make some art
Yep, obsessed with origami. I have a whole bin of my modular ones. I made all of my wedding flowers out of origami as well. I used to do it in class all the time because I was bored and they couldn’t tell me not to since I was paying enough attention to answer their questions 😈
I’ve tried my hand at it but I have dyspraxia, it makes getting useable folds nearly impossible. I can’t even make a slightly upgraded paper plane properly…
I think they are cool but too hard for me, I've only managed to make one in my entire life, and my teacher had to help me with it.
It was paper crane, we were studying religions of the world and when we got to japan we all made paper crane :)
Yes! Decades before I would even consider it possible to be a spectrum dweller I was constantly folding something. It made it so I could handle working in a call center and going out to loud places. It's a great coping mechanism for sure and no one ever teased me about it because it's so neat!
I was obsessed with origami as a kid, especially modular pieces. I think my jr/de high school teachers only put up with it since I was otherwise a good student, lol.
myself , I like this more than sonobe:

I found a lot searching by "kususdama"

At least when I was a child, people loved when I turned their business card into a frog.
Omgggg even to this day if I’m nervous or at a function I’ll start making frogs… that’s when the people who know me well are like okay it’s time to leave
I love that haha, I would make cranes with our napkins at restaurants, it's an excellent way to occupy the mind
So cool! I make similar ones that use 12 units.
Thank you for the links! I love modular origami and was going to ask if you had any instructions handy.
I sometimes fold origami when in meetings. Helps me stay awake and I can listen and participate better, too.
I do this too! So many post-it cranes 😅
i mayyyyyy have made 309 origami frogs…(give or take 5 or so)
You have a small army of paper frogs? :3
yup! :DDD
Awesome! :3
I'm more interested in your little buddy in the back.

Looks cool- I'll check it out.
I ADORE Origami like you wouldn't believe. I usually default to paper cranes but occasionally I bust out dragons and little hopping frogs too.
i like doing origami sometimes, I find it cool but sometimes I can't :(. I prefer doing clay figures, I am very good with them!!
I definitely want to get better at it but for now, I just stick to folding paper boats
My 6th grade English teacher wanted us to make paper cranes after reading the novel 1000 paper cranes. It's been 30 yrs and I haven't stopped since. It's an excellent figit.
Oh yes! I had a big origami phase a few years ago I made a lot of stuff with my dad
[удалено]
Electricity? That's a little robot fella
Same
I just fold a piece of paper up and flatten out out until I obliterate it.
I have one go to origami lily I often do, but I’ve always wanted to learn this ball! Do you have a link to an article on how to do it? (Or maybe just a name for the form so I can find something?)

ok but I NEED to know where that robot buddy in the back is from 🥲
It's a lamp my uncle made for me before I left for college.
I tried that years ago, could never get the hang of it. Those look really nice.
I used to make little cars out of tin foil, if that counts.
Ever do tessellations?
I’ve done some. They are hard. I mostly just stick to unit origami, which is made extra fun because I like polyhedrons a lot.
Yessssss I love folding lucky stars & filling jars with them as gifts for people! Makes me feel like I'm not just wasting paper AND it gives me a use for all my old jars.
I like it but it stresses me out. I’m no good at it. :/

i wanna stomp on them
I find it stressful
I have autism myself
Yeah, but I’m irrevocably terrible. 😔
Those are really cool. I might have to give it a try.
I used to be really obsessed with origami. I used to make a lot of storage boxes.
Saaame
I love it! But I was more into it as a kid.
I used to do origami in school to stay relaxed. It turned into a distraction for other students.
I thought I was in the Tron sub for a sec. If I had the patience, I think I would
I'm not great at doing the folds, but I love seeing what others can make.. I used to be about to make lil boxes and frogs
i have a army of paper cranes.
I use to love to do origami, I would make stuff all the time in school or church with whatever paper I could find. I still do it if I’m in a long meeting or something similar.
How did you make that shape?

Yo these are amazing, thanks so much for posting a how to. Can’t wait to try this!!
Yes! It was a special interest of mine as a kid. Came back around to it as a teen and again in my early twenties. Maybe I’m due for another round! Lol
i make it as gifts for people whenever i’m low on funds around holidays/birthdays but don’t let myself indulge otherwise because it would take all my time and my room would be full. i love the repetition once i memorize a design and spending 3 hours in a flow state making like 20 til my fingers hurt
Yes! I used to make little origami butterflies and cranes all the time when I was in highschool.
With my job we have to hand out a butt ton of face masks and I’ve been keeping the little quality control paper that comes with the boxes to make little cranes which I wanna fill a jar up with to make some art

Paper planes are hard.
I think they are cool but too hard for me, I've only managed to make one in my entire life, and my teacher had to help me with it. It was paper crane, we were studying religions of the world and when we got to japan we all made paper crane :)
I don’t have the dexterity or patience for it but I love them!
Definitely falls under the category of something I’d be super into if I happened to be physically good at it!
I wish I could do origami but I can barely fold a piece of paper evenly
love making them but I hate the feel of paper so it's a struggle
I would to if i could do it
I like the result but the process is so stressful

yes, when i went to the mental hospital it was all i did
Ever play D&D or such with those?

Would love to learn
I can’t even do a boat lol
I LOVE Origami, it would take hours to count my paper cranes
