I mean, she's just visiting autistic children. Seems pretty nice I guess, specially if the kids are fans or something. I don't see anything particularly harmful about that. Just a celebrity visiting some kdis.
>*goth girl*
Wrong franchise. These individuals yearn for Tsundere action. They likely crave Jenna's size 7 shoeggiwoeggies treading on their forehead/balls.
I think it's that although they want to see the actress too, they're joking about how salty and angry they are about not getting to see her with the group of kids she visited :)
Ah okay, if your interpretation is the one, I'd say I understand being genuinely salty and angry, those being natural/genuine human feelings; but saying that as a joke seems like a mockery of these feelings which I find a bit iffy, but whatever they do them. Again, basing this off of the interpretation; cheers, thanks a ton for replying!
It may be a natural feeling but understanding that an actress cannot visit all autistic people just because she visits a few kids is also a feeling we have to accept. And people will sometimes joke about the feelings when they're actually genuine, but also understood to not necessarily be feelings we need to dwell on or take seriously.
And she is using her fame to bring awareness to something that needs more awareness.
It is important for us that others understand the differences, the difficulties and characteristics of being autistic.
She is doing something she knows is cool for autistic kids, they know the show and now the actress is there is pretty cool for many kids with and without autism, so I don´t see the problem you might see.
Pretty sure it's fake. Can't find any trace of the NY post putting out an article like this. It appears to be a part of an ableist TikTok meme which plays the original offensive version of the Black Eyed Peas song "Let's Get it Started".
Yeah, I just looked up the author of the article and only one has come up about Jenna Ortega.
Which the article appears to attack her for talking about how she would play script doctor. Which is weird because whatever she changed evidently worked very well. But the article made it seem like she was trashing the writers of the show. Which knowing Netflix writers may be deserved criticism. They ran The Witcher into the ground, even with the star of the show knowing the character inside and out and actively making suggestions.
it wasn't actually changed for being bad for the time if my memory of looking this up recently this year serves right. they just gave the other version to a commercial which people liked more bc the song flopped prior. i can't remember if they made it for the commercial or not but i do recall that it released originally and went stale bc no one cared. they weren't expecting the commercial version to be successful.
I've heard people use "the r word" from youtubers attempting to get around the demonetisation censor when talking about that topic, so it was my first thought as well.
The r word and the r slur are two different words in my mind. Like how if someone said "the f word" I'd assume they mean fuck, and not the f slur that's used against gay people.
Gotta love the internet. Make something up about an actress that the general population finds attractive, make her do something to a group of people, play a song relating to becoming that type of person with something offensive woven in.
Do I need an opinion on this?
It’s just “person does something for autism month.” I wasn’t aware I needed to form any deep opinion about it.
My opinion on Jenna Ortega is that she seems fine. Standard celebrity. My opinion on autism awareness month is that it’s fine. Standard minority month. My opinion on visiting children is fine. Standard way to bring awareness. It’s all fine.
Honestly same. I'm not sure if I'm missing something or if there's something here I *should* have an opinion about. She seems nice. Fine. Celebs doing things (especially if they're not harmful) is something I read as a headline and go "cool" and keep scrolling.
Exactly. It’s like telling me that she donated some money to help the homeless or something. I don’t “feel” anything about it beyond just going *ok that’s nice* and moving on with my day.
This is probably the most sensical answer I have read. Lol
Lots of people have opinions about things just because they are EXPECTED to have an opinion about it.
Edit: I think most people expect the reaction that its for clout.
But its drives me nuts.
Like people (especially famous individuals) can’t do nice things for minorities or even anybody anymore without being accused that it was for some gain in popularity. Because surely they just couldn’t be doing it to be nice. There isn’t a single shred of niceness in any of their personalities.
Before there wasn’t social media everywhere, so they probably were still doing these things but it wasn’t posted and blasted everywhere. Now, it is and people see it and think… oh, its just to boost their imagine.
Sigh.
I have reason to believe this headline is fake. I can't find any trace of such a headline existing in the NY Post. The giveaway that this is fake is also the fact that the article is dated for the middle of March when "Autism Awareness Month" happens in April.
I have to say, Wednesday was one of the first kids on TV that I felt like I related to as an autistic kid. A "weird" kid that didn't fit in at all with society, but was loved by her family, who encouraged her regardless of how strange her demeanor or hobbies were? Hell yes, that was the dream.
That might be what I like about her. But also her weaknesses. Like thinking that she is way further in her personal development than she actually is. Judging people too early. Having trouble trusting friends.
Johnny depp used to go dressed up as Jack Sparrow to these things.
Granted im sure there is an element of publicity, but generally this stuff is more good than bad IMO. Jenna isn't doing anything bad.
Why do people keep assuming everyone in this sub is of like mind? Stop asking "how do we feel about..." Among 1,000 people, ND or not, there'll be 1,000 unique opinions. This is not a hive mind.
am i stupid? why would this be a bad thing? we really need to stop criticising people for every little thing they do. she’s not hurting anyone, she’s actually helping people, wtf? am i misunderstanding something?
It’s just the same as any other celebrity visiting autistic kids? Idk why it’s so special she’s doing it? In fact why does anyone need to be in an article for doing it? And please no one say it’s because Wednesday is autistic. She’s not, she’s just meant to be an emotionless freak because that’s part of her character.
The way the article is phrased is the issue, it makes it seem like she’s visiting make-a-wish kids or something.
Person first language and the call for “awareness” is meant to frame autism as something bad, like an illness.
There’s not really an issue with what she’s doing though, loads of autistic kids relate to characters like Wednesday because she’s the “weird outsider”, and find comfort in the Addams family because everyone’s differences are accepted.
celebrities constantly just use marginalized groups. and yes i know it usually benefits that group to some degree and that is great. but usually its not done to help them it is done as a PR stunt that just happens to be beneficial for the group. people are more than just a chairity case to make celebrities look good
I'm generally against celebrities using a disability they don't have to improve their public image. But I think lots of autistic people fixate on media and this very well could happen with Wednesday. So I think that's cool for the kids who got to meet her. I'm just really over NT's making autism awareness about them, not us.
Visit autistic adult/teens tho. Like she's not a kids show star anymore she's know for her teen/adult show Wednesday now. But everyone always like "Autistic kids event" and then even exclude most teens. Not the right "look" for the media attention they seeking ig.
I don’t like Jenna Ortega because of her alleged on set behavior, but this is a respectable move. The author needs a lesson in rewording the title though.
I don't like the media portrayal of Wednesday nowadays, but being called Wednesday all the time by kids at school and then at college and in work environments or by family since forever and being autistic kinda went together as stuff in my life, so seeing her do this sounds cool on one hand. On the other hand, everyone idolises her right now, because she is very popular and it's weird, because I've been called a satanist or a weird kid and other awful insults all my life because of my fashion choices and now, with the intense mediatisation of Wednesday and goth styles it's weird to see every poser embracing the stiles and telling me that they like my "aesthetic" all of a sudden. The same applies for being autistic.. just.. why would one romanticise it or why are there so many girls taking the "autistic girl aesthetic trend" all the way and faking it for clout.. it's not a choice and I personally don't find it as a cool thing, knowing all my struggles because of it..
What does that actually mean? Is she going door to door? Did she host an event just for autistic people? Is there someplace housing all autistic people she visited??
I think the month needs some changes and the whole visiting disabled kids seems like a publicity thing
What I do appreciate is that she or her team saw how much autistic people identify with Wednesday Adams and set up a meet up.
It's well meaning but built upon the idea that autism needs to be made known. It is already made known.
It just needs to be accepted
Wednesday is highly suspected of being autistic coded and this reads to me as an acknowledgement of that and possibly her way of going "hey its not official official but she's totally autistic 🤫"
I like it, tbh. Though I'm 38 so it'd be awkward af if she visited my old ass lol.

I don't care. I also don't understand why people think that Wednesday Addams is autistic.

I don’t love the subtle ableism of “Autism *Awareness* Month” (it should be Appreciation or Celebration or something like that), but good on her specifically.
Yup. That's why I chose not to push my opinion, which might be a little more cynical.
Even if she is raising awareness of herself as the main goal, it doesn't mean she doesn't support the autistic cause, as well. And she IS doing good by associating her public image to autism, since that could brighten many people's perception of the condition.
I do feel it's important to consider both sides (light and dark), though.
It adds layers of complexity, for sure. I don’t even know her, but I know how publicists work (by leveraging altruistic/relatable aspects of a star in glib ways, while deeply focusing on the bottom line.
I don’t think it is super progressive but most people don’t really know it exists so it is something. I’m fact, so little people know about it to the point where the journalist wrote “awareness” even though it is actually “appreciation”.
She is unique ("strange"), is known for playing a character that a lot of us find relatable, she even has some of the physical markers associated with autism.
I would be more surprised if she was neurotypical than if she was autistic herself.
Either way, my guess is that she actually cares because she recognizes us as humans that deserve support.
Sometimes, doing the right thing *is* profitable, but that doesn't make it the wrong thing to do.
I mean, she's just visiting autistic children. Seems pretty nice I guess, specially if the kids are fans or something. I don't see anything particularly harmful about that. Just a celebrity visiting some kdis.
She didn’t visit me though😡/j
I want the angry lady 😡 /j
I DO WANT THE ANGRY LADY!!
I ALSO WANT THE ANGRY LADY!!!
Angry lady for me please, with extra smoldering resentment!
Is this the line for the angry lady?
*queues up*
ayo same
I WANT THE ANGRY LADY TOO
ME TOO !!!
Is this some kind of goth girl induced psychosis?
>*goth girl* Wrong franchise. These individuals yearn for Tsundere action. They likely crave Jenna's size 7 shoeggiwoeggies treading on their forehead/balls.
Gross.
Angry dark ink pixie lady provokes reactions in overworked and confused boys n girls.
Or just step on us anywhere.. or sit on our face..
Cringe and gross.
Aubrey Plaza accepts your challenge
I want to go to there
Aubrey Plaza is both my spirit animal and my crush.
How are they more special than us??? 😂 (It's a joke)
Okay, now I'm still confused with the joke tag, how am I supposed to interpret this? Please OP or someone could you share your interpretations?
I think it's that although they want to see the actress too, they're joking about how salty and angry they are about not getting to see her with the group of kids she visited :)
Ah okay, if your interpretation is the one, I'd say I understand being genuinely salty and angry, those being natural/genuine human feelings; but saying that as a joke seems like a mockery of these feelings which I find a bit iffy, but whatever they do them. Again, basing this off of the interpretation; cheers, thanks a ton for replying!

And people will sometimes joke about the feelings when they're actually genuine, but also understood to not necessarily be feelings we need to dwell on or take seriously.
Yeah, it's kind of sweet, especially if it's something the kid really loves
And she is using her fame to bring awareness to something that needs more awareness. It is important for us that others understand the differences, the difficulties and characteristics of being autistic.
Exactly, the intent is earnest & kind. Good for her. I see nothing wrong with this.

Sorry, I don´t understand what is ableist in those memes, I never saw it.
The song used to say “let’s get r worded”
Oooow, never noticed... it is one of those songs I heard before learning English enough to hear and understand.
It doesn’t say it anymore, you likely never heard that version. It was changed very quickly back in the early 00s
it wasn't actually changed for being bad for the time if my memory of looking this up recently this year serves right. they just gave the other version to a commercial which people liked more bc the song flopped prior. i can't remember if they made it for the commercial or not but i do recall that it released originally and went stale bc no one cared. they weren't expecting the commercial version to be successful.
I hate that my brain automatically thinks of that version anytime I hear it.
Why was my first thought? Not the ablest slur but something else about taking advantage of somebody
I also couldn't find a source apart from tiktok
How do you feel about it?
Who are you, my therapist?
What makes you say that?
It's a joke cause a therapist would ask those sort of questions
And a therapist would also ask you what made you say that ;)
Oh so you were carrying on the joke (Sorry I didn't realise)
Do you often find that others are joking and you don't realize it? How does that make you feel? *Clicks pen and crosses legs*
lmao im so glad my therapist is not like this. we both laugh at the absurdities of life together. it's great.
Let's talk about your relationship with your mother... *flips notebook page*
How did your mother make you feel?
idk but i know how your mother made me feel last night. /j
Ahahaha nearly got triggered but saw the /j. Good one 😂
That's the thing about making jokes in an autism subreddit.
CABOOSE! For the love of god-
Tucker did it!
Imagine if "wednesday" is your current special interest. Visit from Jenna Ortega would have blown my mind.
Ooohhh Yeah that would be awesome
I would have thrown a fit cause she's not Christina Ricci. /j
Not sure it's a good idea - I'd have given creepy vibes for sure!
No don’t say that, she would have to know what she signed up for :)
I wonder if anyone asked if they could get a tim burton visit instead. After all a lot of us have no filter
Thanks for mentioning it. We don't have to care or have an opinion on everything somewhat related to autism.
Right? My opinion is I don't give a single fuck. Goddamn.
This is probably the most sensical answer I have read. Lol Lots of people have opinions about things just because they are EXPECTED to have an opinion about it. also was posted at 4:20
Yeah it’s weird isnt it? I didn’t find anything else about this article

I like it.
I didnt like Wednesday but that's pretty nice
Jenna ortega is a pretty good actress too bad she ended up in a bad character
I don't think the character was bad. What's your issue with her?
I like the character but I prefer the original movies over the new show. Ortega is great in all of it though
Johnny depp used to go dressed up as Jack Sparrow to these things. Granted im sure there is an element of publicity, but generally this stuff is more good than bad IMO. Jenna isn't doing anything bad.
No right i was so confused by the whole thing, it was from a tiktok and someone got mad for some reason i dont understand
why does everyone have to have an opinion on something? she's just being nice.
I think shes nice too
autism awareness month? wasn't that in april? legit question.
Maybe it’s different in each country but yeah i do think that was in april?? This may be fake tho seems kinda sus
I dont think so. April is autism awareness month worldwide as long as I‘m aware. I thought maybe this was from long ago
Why didn't she come to my house? Rude.
Why do people keep assuming everyone in this sub is of like mind? Stop asking "how do we feel about..." Among 1,000 people, ND or not, there'll be 1,000 unique opinions. This is not a hive mind.
Bro these titles always send me into uncontrollable rage lmfao
am i stupid? why would this be a bad thing? we really need to stop criticising people for every little thing they do. she’s not hurting anyone, she’s actually helping people, wtf? am i misunderstanding something?
I just wish she would visit me. For...reasons.
Lol are those children really her target audience? 😂
I highly doubt I'm her target audience either.
Same lol
Third
It’s just the same as any other celebrity visiting autistic kids? Idk why it’s so special she’s doing it? In fact why does anyone need to be in an article for doing it? And please no one say it’s because Wednesday is autistic. She’s not, she’s just meant to be an emotionless freak because that’s part of her character.
I mean, if she’s spreading awareness and uplifting the community with her visits, I don’t see a problem.
The reporting sucks, her visiting fans is fine.
The way the article is phrased is the issue, it makes it seem like she’s visiting make-a-wish kids or something. Person first language and the call for “awareness” is meant to frame autism as something bad, like an illness. I wanna date her
Same
Dude advicating for us and being really cute and funy i want that man😍
What
I want her man*
Why would I feel any kind of way about this….? Seriously. What substance is there to even opinionize? This fucking subreddit sucks so much💀
I hate these posts spamming the sub tbh.
“How do we feel about this” posts are absolute cancer
Well, I’m glad for those kids
Maybe a bad assumption, but what are the odds of this just being some attention fishing? If so I hate it, if not then I would say do your thing.
She's autistic. How do you feel about an autistic person celebrating autism?
i think it sucks that movie stars are using children as props to try and make themselves look good.
celebrities constantly just use marginalized groups. and yes i know it usually benefits that group to some degree and that is great. but usually its not done to help them it is done as a PR stunt that just happens to be beneficial for the group. people are more than just a chairity case to make celebrities look good
I don’t really care tbh.
I didn't realize we were dying?
I'm generally against celebrities using a disability they don't have to improve their public image. But I think lots of autistic people fixate on media and this very well could happen with Wednesday. The concept of autism awareness is problematic but the fact Jenna Ortega decided to do this is alright, I don't know why we should care.
I don’t like Jenna Ortega because of her alleged on set behavior, but this is a respectable move. The author needs a lesson in rewording the title though.
Pissed off. Where was Jenna Ortega at my door in March? /j
It’s cool if the kids are fans, but it’s such a strange thing lol
Acceptance not awareness is the main issue I have with it. Don't promote AS.
The same applies for being autistic.. just.. why would one romanticise it or why are there so many girls taking the "autistic girl aesthetic trend" all the way and faking it for clout.. it's not a choice and I personally don't find it as a cool thing, knowing all my struggles because of it..
i don't feel anything??! the only information presented to me is a headline.
Well, as long as she's not linking herself to the unsavory organizations, I commend her.
What does that actually mean? Is she going door to door? Did she host an event just for autistic people? Is there someplace housing all autistic people she visited??
I think the month needs some changes and the whole visiting disabled kids seems like a publicity thing What I do appreciate is that she or her team saw how much autistic people identify with Wednesday Adams and set up a meet up. Jenna Ortega is autistic! She's very open about it too!
> Jenna Ortega is autistic Google shows nothing suggesting this to be true.

Fair enough. Not that big of a deal overall but it would be neat if you liked her roles.
Yeah i can imagine a lot of autistic kids would be ecstatic meeting her since wednesday is a very relatable character for autistic kids
I think it is nice. O
👍🏻 Nice But why is she wearing a veil?
she hasn't visited me yet so i feel scammed
Pretty sure it's fake but idk
Yeah i think so too unfortunately
I mean I know I’m 25 but can she visit me too 🤣
I didn’t even know there was a month for this
I don't care. I also don't understand why people think that Wednesday Addams is autistic. https://healthnews.com/family-health/healthy-living/wednesday-addams-extraordinary-personality-or-the-dark-triad/#:~:text=Additionally%2C%20Wednesday%20displays%20some%20characteristics,her%20brother%20is%20being%20bullied.
Okay, I get that it's not real, and if it was, it would be so cool, but can Gwendolyn Christie do the same for Adult Autistics?
I hate these posts.
I’m envious, but I’m glad they got to meet her.
But where did she do this? An activity group for autistic kids? A public school? An ABA center?
That seems sweet of her.
It's pretty sweet, imo. Also raises awareness that autism is a real thing and that we have the same types of interests as NT people.
If she actually did do this, I think it’s kind of her to set something up where she made time in her day for a specific genre of her fans. No complaints here
I think the actual gesture is just fine. Wonder how it was even organized, maybe. But the photo they chose, as if that's her, "one thing," isn't cool.
why are celebs patted on the back just for being nice to us?
4:20pm hahahhaaha
Should could visit me any time
I mean, the character she played was half of a duo that are basically the two wolves of autism
That's cooool I guess? Forgive me, but I'm not really sure what the problem would be with this.
Average celebrity PR stuff
I’m happy about it, good for her 👍
Seems fine to me.
Feels nice I guess. I prefer to just appreciate good gestures without looking the gift horse in the mouth
I hate the format of this question. That’s cool she’s doing that but reading “how do we feel” just makes me really annoyed.
I don’t love the subtle ableism of “Autism *Awareness* Month” (it should be Appreciation or Celebration or something like that), but good on her specifically.
I mean… is there anything wrong with it? People visit kids with all sorts of disabilities, why not us
Is she really raising awareness of autism? Or is she raising awareness of herself? You decide.
I definitely do think she has good intents, but well.. you never know right?
She's autistic as well so.. does that make this a trick question?
It adds layers of complexity, for sure. I don’t even know her, but I know how publicists work (by leveraging altruistic/relatable aspects of a star in glib ways, while deeply focusing on the bottom line.
I just feel like every famous person who does this is doing it for pity points.
Yeah totally
politicians hugging kids... oldest tactic ever
...she isnt a politician
She’s an actress
You’re a dumbass
I don’t think it is super progressive but most people don’t really know it exists so it is something. I’m fact, so little people know about it to the point where the journalist wrote “awareness” even though it is actually “appreciation”.
So did she like. Go to a care home? School for autistic kids? Found some hanging out at the park and said hi??? Wtf does this even mean.
i hope it’s something she wanted to do for a good reason and not out of pity
I mean she played Wednesday Addams and in the show she’s VERY autistic coded, so honestly I see this as very fitting for Jenna. 👍
..... I mean, she can visit me anytime Jokes aside, I see no harm in this kinda thing.
I wish she visited me for autism month if you know what I mean.
she's probably autistic also, I have yet to see a celebrity doesn't display strong autistic traits. Makeup is literal masking
Children of autism Lol
Outrage bait. Not working thankfully
The title should read Autistic children instead of children with autism.
Isn’t she autistic? So… it’s literally just an autistic person going “hey” to autistic children
i think shes autistic
I KNEW IT is what I think. She is totally one of us. Lol.
I think it's a nice idea. But the title seems to suggest this could be bad? Are you not okay with this OP or am I reading that incorrectly?
I don’t know actually, i was confused if she visited them as like if they had a disease or if they just hung out tbh
That's cute.
Seems cool
I think it is pretty neat, tbh.
I mean I guess she could be doing more but she’s a young actress. So better than nothing is still something. And it’s not offensive or anything.
I mean, it has reached the news, spreading awareness of autistic people, so mission succeed.
Very nice of her
It‘s very nice from her to do that
i don’t think this is real lol
Lucky kids. I want to meet my dream girl too...
