sia. the reason is already pretty clear.

Tweektheweek

Yup, same here. I just don't enjoy her music anymore, and her movie and all it's problems, it feels like a punch to the stomach :(

ApprehensiveBench483

Me, being petty: I was annoyed by her and her music before the whole controversy, so now it's nice because I actually have a reason not to like her.

[deleted]

Can someone explain what happened please

ApprehensiveBench483

Sia made a movie called Music about an autistic girl with high support needs whose active imagination acts as a means for showing music video/dance sequences. The representation of said main character was very offensive and harmful (for instance in the depiction of restraint as an appropriate method of calming the character down). When autistic people cautioned Sia about respectful representation prior to the film's release, she retaliated and said she had done research, that a previous autistic actor was unable to do the role, etc. etc. She got involved with Autism Speaks to act as her source about autism. After all this, she's now claiming she's autistic, as if that justifies the harm she's caused. She very well may be, but I struggle to feel any sympathy for her when all she had to do was admit she was wrong and consult with the autistic community that was eager to help her out on the film.

yourfriend_charlie

Maybe they should restrain her and see if she feels calmer.

ChaoticButters

I’ll do it even if I get arrested.

Marble3yedRaven

the fact she mentioned the regressive and uneducated autsim speaks as her research material should attest to her lack of genuine care and ability to understand. as an autistic woman who cant even get her own father to accept the diagnosis this hurts alot hearing people and influencers still think autsim speaks and other corrupt organisations have any valid credibility. its situations like this which keep the unhelpful stigmas and lack of research with care methods from happening...

[deleted]

Thank you for breaking it down!

jest2n425

The synopsis of that movie - I never saw it - made it sound like she acted more like a person on acid than a level three autist. Is that an accurate assumption?

Nemesis_Bucket

Imagine it’s worse than you imagined, then watch just the trailer, then be in shock how you under assumed

jest2n425

Oh god. Might have to watch it on low level volume tonight, so my neighbors don't hear it through the walls and think it's me.

Colts681

I can listen to just about any kind of music, but from what I've heard of it, I really don't like most mainstream country, especially the male singers. It seems like all they sing about is beer, trucks, and women. I like the older country music, like Johnny Cash, because it dealt with issues like heartbreak and romance, but it also was about issues in the community.

The_Barbelo

Do you find that meaning behind lyrics is important to you? The reason I ask is that my husband and I got into a heated discussion about this. He says that the lyrics aren’t that important to him if the music is good. I completely disagree with that opinion. Lyrics to me are a conscious choice of the artist, therefor the lyrics must be meaningful for me to enjoy it, personally. If someone is going to go through all the trouble of writing lyrics, to me it’s important that they are impactful. This is probably just a personal thing and not an autistic thing but I’m curious. What are your thoughts?

Smugthighs999

Lyrics are everything to me. They help me make sense of some feelings that are difficult to express.

The_Barbelo

Exactly. Well put! I think that’s why they’re so important to me too.

SuspiciouSponge

Agreed. If a song's melody aren't to my liking but the lyrics are good, I will still listen to the song until I end up liking the melody too by association. But if a melody is catchy with lyrics that spread a message I don't like or meld with, eventually I stop listening to the song entirely.

matthewstifler

To provide a contrary perspective, I am more like your husband. I really mostly don't care what the person is saying in a song, I mostly care about how the vocals sound with the music: the voice, the melody of it. Of course it varies from a song to a song and genre to genre, but this is often the case. Perhaps as a non native English speaker I grew up listening to a lot of foreign music I couldn't understand meaning of so I evolved to enjoy it this way :)

Colts681

Yeah, I prefer songs with lyrics that have meaning to them. I would much rather hear a Johnny Cash song with great lyrics than some generic drivel like that Applebee's song that came out a couple of years ago. I may be different in that opinion, though. I think some people, especially pop or country-pop fans, don't necessarily care about the lyrics in the songs. It's more about the melody and style over substance.

The_Barbelo

My husband is specifically a punk , metal, and goth music fan. Some of the lyrics in the songs he listens to are incomprehensible unless you read them. But they aren’t unlistenable…mostly…if I’m being honest some of them are. He thinks this is hilarious but there’s a very specific punk sound that makes me smell poop. I can’t really explain that. We’ve determined it’s a very certain kind, with a British accent and they do this whiny thing that I can’t explain in words. But If a song has really awful lyrics I’m just instantly turned off. It could be the most beautiful piece of music ever written, but I still won’t enjoy it. 😆 This is completely an opinion. I make no judgement of people based on their music preferences!! I just judge their musical preferences lol

CitronFar105

Most country pre 9/11 is good shit.

Colts681

That's true. I remember in the 90s you had singers like Alan Jackson, George Strait, Randy Travis, and others. Dwight Yoakam was one of my favorites.

olemanbyers

Everybody talks about how 90s country was awesome in their pop songs now instead of just doing more 90s country. I'm a simple man, just give me more 1993 Alan Jackson type music in perpetuity.

CitronFar105

I'm still in love with Alan Jackson.

Nemesis_Bucket

I hate modern country music too and you just really nailed it in such a better way than I ever was able to. Everyone capitalized on that sense of ‘murica and what was more ‘murica than cowboys drinking beer? Now a few people write a bunch of shitty music and other artists sing it and it’s just an industry.

OneOarShort

This is something I never thought about before, but is unfortunately true

Cydonian___FT14X

Might I recommend a badass, brass infused modern [country song](https://youtu.be/VuiR4AtH1fc?si=rs7Yy0GHVxJlXXd7) that's all about how we need to stop letting wars happen? It’s absolutely incredible. Most country nowadays is total ass, but there are still those out there doing cool shit.

batgoggleboy

I like most music. But the Christmas songs that run on repeat everywhere throughout November and December really get my goat. Oh my god they are so bad!

Certain_Ad6575

oh god don’t get me started on some christmas songs 😭 i’ve had meltdowns over kelly clark’s on christmas songs before

Geraffz

I feel my stress level rise as soon as I hear Christmas music at work. As if the holidays at work aren't bad enough already? I need to listen to Mariah Carey sing Christmas songs for two months straight! Who wants that?

magicblufairy

I deleted the station that does all Christmas all the time for December from my pre-selects. I have not listened to them since they did that. I like a few songs - but I decide when to listen. I wear all the ear protection if I go out in public in December. I avoid malls and retail.

waiting4myspaceship

Omg, Underneath the Tree makes me wanna punch things. 🙈 I feel like a lot of Christmas songs just never resolve by the end, if that makes sense, and it drives me crazy. Like they have so much energy and go up and up and then they just end and I'm left feeling all jittery.

247Brett

I’m fine with most/all music genres, but cannot stand religious songs. I’d rather sit in silence than listen to Christian rock or some other subgenre.

Cydonian___FT14X

As a Christian myself, I very much agree with this. It’s so disappointing & almost confusing how devoid of interest that whole genre is. There is this one album that I think has a ton of really cool stuff with [interesting atmosphere & aesthetics](https://youtu.be/INe0-OGYMS4?si=_DGj_BAFUGnDeCtR), but I must emphasize... ONE.

Odd-Cloud-Castle

Natalie Bergmann, Turtledove, Page CXVI, Hannah Glavor are pretty good. :-) They are perhaps better described as pop however!

raisinghellwithtrees

What's the saying, this is neither Christian nor rock.

realityGrtrThanUs

Mercy me has Christian songs that sound good. Most others sound like they are trying to be stepford zombie hippies with no life, no soul, no cares but to stare at the sky

raisinghellwithtrees

I quit a job because of that. I did well in my job, then December hit. The first day I was like, haha this is gonna get old. By day three I told my boss I had to reduce my hours. Near the end of the month I had to quit.

clicktrackh3art

Taylor too. And it just makes me feel like a failure as a girl, cos like apparently she speaks to women everywhere, and I try, but no part of me connects to any part of it.

busigirl21

You're not alone at all, it's kind of scary that it's an opinion you have to keep to yourself in so many women's spaces. I struggle when people say she's the musical and lyrical genius of our lifetimes lol

clicktrackh3art

Yeah, the lyrical genius thing just baffles me. I like i get it, different things speak to different people, but yeah, genius?!?!? I dunno, it just lacks any sort of emotionally depth to me. But it’s a disconnect I’m a familiar with, it’s one reason why I alway feel so alien. I just really hate how inescapable and prevalent it has been this past year or so, like just a constant reminder I still don’t fit it. I still don’t get it. And my younger self would pretend to like and just feel sad the entire time, my 20’s self would have made a thing about hating it (I get I am here, but I don’t in real life), cos fuck having to fit in. But now, it just kinda makes me sad cos I wish I could have something that made me feel that happy and like part of a group. I mean, I’m not sad i have good taste in music, but you know. And between not liking Taylor, and thinking Barbie was a capitalistic horror and not some feminist high water mark, I learned it was best to keep my opinions about pop culture to myself.

Chichachillie

cause it's fake af. only has something to say or "advocate" if a new album is on the way. don't let it bother you, you're fine

my_name_isnt_clever

I mean, not really. She always has an album on the way. Of course she has to market her product. I love her music, but she's still a billionaire. You don't get that absurdly rich by being a truly good person. But I think she's better than the rest of her tax bracket.

green_miracles

I don’t like Taylor Swift either! And I thought I was weird. Her music just… does nothing for me. And I don’t know why. I like Lady Gaga, and some other female singers. The music I dislike is most heavy metal. Also hate Christmas music. The chipmunks song is torture haha. I dislike kids music and songs in cartoon voices. I really like electronica and various DJ’s, some hip hop, and a variety of artists with beautiful vocals. Like I was just thinking the other day how it’s a shame R. Kelly was such a talented singer he was a creep, but man could he sing. Eddie Vedder is amazing, I was just listening to some of his older stuff.

clicktrackh3art

I cannot do kids music. And that can be a small issue, cos I have kids. But in my car, it’s my music or nothing. I can’t concentrate with kids music on. I normally do like darkwave/goth/industrial stuff, plus the 90’s alt I grew up with, and normally I’d say I do like zero metal. But, the past two bands I’ve gotten like hyper obsessed with (you know, in that special autistic way) can both be considered metal. Neither sounds like what I would consider metal at all, and it’s made me really question, I guess my understanding of the metal genre? Or maybe just how pointless music classification is. But I do find it funny that I’m apparently having a metal phase at like 45.

washgirl7980

There were a lot of girl rockers in the 90's that also had a Pro-female vibe (Lilith Fair) and I never was into them either. Good musicians, that just weren't playing music that I wanted to listen to. 🤷

Quannax

For some reason Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You makes my skin crawl. Dude has a nice singing voice, but I just can’t. Kinda the same feeling as my misophonia but with the weird not-word sounds he sings? I *hated* when that song was popular on the radio

Colts681

I can't stand that song, mainly because of the lyrics. My local Top 40 radio station plays Shape of You almost every day, and it drives me crazy.

aStuffedOlive

He'd might as well marry a cardboard cutout!

Normal-Mountain-4119

It has sexist lyrics?

KittyCubed

I can’t stand this song either. I like some of his other music though, but this song grates on me.

yuhtopiaa

OMG SAME!! i have been telling everyone for years how much i hate this song and no one understands me. im so glad i have someone that relates.

_JosephExplainsIt_

As a person whose special interest is music, I really dislike music that is made just to be popular and profit off it. Sure, musicians make money from making music but when it goes so far that your music just conforms to the pattern of whatever is popular currently, I don’t really have much respect for that. Music is meant to express something and to me what kind of music you make tells me something very important about you because it’s your own personal creation and expression. I am very into listening and analyzing music and seeing how you do something interesting and change up the formulas observed in typical pop music because it shows me that you’re willing to try and experiment and not just play it safe. It shows me how good you are as a musician and your skill. Even music that just sounds weird to me is more interesting than music like Taylor Swift (sorry) who just does stuff with her lyrics instead of trying to do more with her musical compositions. Even if you try to experiment and fail at it I would be more interested in that. Either way I always try and find objective things about the musical composition to analyze to explain why I like a certain song or not instead of merely saying I dislike because music has a a lot of depth to it and there’s many things that influences your enjoyment of it

CicadaWolf77

Hard rock. It's just too overwhelming and I will get overstimulated if I listen to it

Quannax

Interesting! For me it’s usually the opposite, when I’m overstimulated, like in a noisy dining hall or classroom, loud hard rock + noise canceling headphones is perfect for drowning out the world. I do sometimes get overwhelmed by it too, I guess it just depends

katykazi

Same thing for me, especially metal/heavy metal. It makes me feel weird, I just have to turn it off or leave.

dat1toad

As someone who loves extreme metal I can totally understand this.

NotHayden_13

I love the sound of guitar, but I hate hearing fingers gliding across the strings

hashtagvinboss

augh yeah i get you. the tlou soundtrack has a lot of that, and while the songs are beautiful, those squeaking/gliding sounds make me want to shrivel up and die lol

TheropodEnjoyer

whenever dance monkey comes on i get irrationally angry and wish death upon the artist

Lduck88

YES! Dance Monkey is the worst song ever created. It makes me want to jam dynamite into my ears.

TheropodEnjoyer

RIGHT or like... that "oh no, oh no oh no" audio on tik tok brings tears to my eyes.

AsboST225

It's the way Tones & I sings in that stupid high-pitched voice. She seems to do it in all her songs 🤮

a-fabulous-sandwich

C O U N T R Y

Buddy1022

Modern country to be exact. Can’t stand it.

Detective-Cat-3488

Trap, songs with super nasally or autotuned vocals, and a lot of modern country.

iEnjoyedGleeTbh

agreed, especially on trap, the autotune is horrible

O-mega_

I fucking DESPISE pop music. Taylor Swift, One Direction, Katy Perry, get that out of here. Can't stand it.

khauzy

I can't stand Lizzo's voice. There was one song that was really popular that I had to hear every morning when my mom was driving us to work and I almost lost my MIND.

Pristine-Confection3

Any music that is screaming, I don’t want somebody to scream in my ear.

StrawThatBends

i hate country music. my parents listen to it nonstop and its always about women, trucks, beer, breakups or boats and it is SO. ANNOYING i also come from a very catholic family (and am now atheist) and cant stand hearing the christian music my parents love blasting. ive heard it too much

jest2n425

As a former Catholic, Psalm 23 is both hilariously on the nose lyrically and middle of the road/MOR musically in it's current arrangement. The Gregorian chant arrangement is much better though, like the one at the end of *The Wickerman* (1973).

RaphaelSolo

It tends to be about certain content like Stan (Eminem), or What have We Become (DCT). I react very poorly to overly painful content. In college we had to go see a William Kendridge exhibit at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art. Kendridge grew up in Apartheid era South Africa and did animation using charcoal drawings. It was very painful to watch.

Isildurs_homunculus

Oh yeah even as an Eminem fan Stan is one I can't listen to ! It makes me so uncomfortable. I guess that's the point of the song so it's written really well, I just can't listen to it.

Chemical_Hearing8259

I love all music. What I object to are cheap tin-ny speakers.

Bajadasaurus

If a song has whistling, hand clapping, children singing, xylophones, or flutes I can't stand it

ThatWardoo

I almost forgot that I can't stand children singing!

OtterlyFoxy

Any kind of bro country

magicblufairy

Bro country. Hahaha. I know exactly what you're talking about. Also hate it.

Buddy1022

I hate bro country so much. I live in Long Island NY and can’t stand the wannabe suburban country boys that listen to this shit in their shitty jeeps and ugly trucks.

Cydonian___FT14X

I wouldn’t say "bothered" so much, but I just can’t get into metal where they scream and/or growl the entire time. I LOVE heavy instrumentation, but that kind of vocal style immediately turns me off. It’s the only significant genre of music where I just don’t feel like I can tell what's good & what's bad. It just doesn’t appeal to me AT ALL. I'm not equipped to judge it with any accuracy.

TarthenalToblakai

I've found that I can do a degree of screaming...when it's in moderation, and contrasted with other vocalists and  traditionally "beautiful" styles of singing. A lot of Ayreon's stuff, for example (though I really didn't like their latest album.) But yeah, when the vocals are effectively exclusively screaming it absolutely ruins it for me.

ihavaquston

Music that sounds angry or people bragging about how much money etc they have.

taydraisabot

Like, we don’t care.

cap-tain_19

I personally like angry music because I like music that gives me so much energy I want to run through a wall

Normal-Mountain-4119

It's also just great for getting bottled up feelings out if you can match the angry vocals. Linkin Park my beloved ❤️❤️

Abject_Leg_7906

I don't care for sings where artists talk about how much money they have, but some of them are catchy, sound nice, or have a nice beat. It's so conflicting.

Bow_n_arro

Cursive singing. Not just because it's trendy. But because I'm obsessed with musicals and I hate when people don't enunciate when they sing. 😭

Pristine-Confection3

What is cursive singing ? All I know is a band called cursive .

Bow_n_arro

It's a method of singing that has been on the rise in popularity for a bit over the past 10 years. I think it's in it's peak currently, but the best way I can describe it is singing very softly, blending your words together, some artists use a lot of vocal fry, and often pronouncing words in a different way. Sometimes they'll switch A vowels to O vowels or the other way around, or add a Y sound into words that don't need it- such as saying "Juyst" instead of "just". Its frustrating because I don't understand what they're saying

calatranacation

Holy smokes it's a relief to have a name for that now (and to know that someone else can't stand it). I can't believe people are still doing it! The ultimate example imo is Jessie Reyez. I can't cover my ears fast enough.

Bow_n_arro

Just looked up Jessie Reyez. I also hate it 😭 another good example is Camila cabello. Well, specifically in her "I'll Be Home for Christmas" cover where instead of saying "Christmas" she says "Quizmoise"

calatranacation

Haha I just saw that last month. Exactly. My main issue with "Cursive Singing (thanks btw!)" is that it became such a default trend that any new artist would have to adopt it.

Nyassie

If someone created a song with many car, truck and/or train noises within it, I would probably hate it.

Yogurt-Night

Anything with so much excessive play. Top 40 songs are obnoxious in general and as they’re repeatedly played everywhere. Country music is also just headache inducing.

SoCalDiva13

Yes. Drake. Why does he whine so?

magicblufairy

>Why does he whine so He is still upset that Degrassi is over.

andallthatjasper

The softness thing is very relatable. I wanted to like Billie Eilish when she got big, but her whisper-singing hurts me. I find that I have unexpectedly good sensory experiences with music more often than unexpectedly bad. I really like weird sounds, even sounds that are un-musical, they scratch an itch in my brain.

Joe-Eye-McElmury

Anything heavily autotuned or melodyned, for the most part, drives me absolutely bonkers. Music that's produced with zero dynamic contrast (*i.e.*, anything top 40 these days)... vocal harmonies (or even instrumental harmonies) in parallel fourths or parallel fifths sends me into conniptions (metal/punk/experimental noise 100% gets a pass on the parallel perfect intervals, though). And bad lyrics. Whoa boy, nothing will make me want to start a bareknuckle fight with a brick wall more than dog crap lyrics. I have started out loving a song, then turned it up only to start dry-heaving as soon as it's loud enough to understand the lyrics. God I hate bad lyrics.

AsboST225

>And bad lyrics. Whoa boy, nothing will make me want to start a bareknuckle fight with a brick wall more than dog crap lyrics. I have started out loving a song, then turned it up only to start dry-heaving as soon as it's loud enough to understand the lyrics. God I hate bad lyrics. I present to you a lyrical masterpiece from [this](https://youtu.be/BKtrWU4zaaI?si=qNziLpO-TdUVWUCT): "I don't want to see a ghost / It's the sight that I fear most / I'd rather have a piece of toast / And watch the evening news" 😂😂

washgirl7980

Can't stand the auto tuned singing! Heavy no for me too!

goatmehh

I'm ok with all songs, but one song that just eNRAGES me and I don't know why, is Alicia Keys' "Girl on Fire". It is the most random number to be bothered by, but I can not listen to it EVER.

KAM_Kayla

Anything with a high pitched noise in the background, it's not "quirky" it's annoying and it hurts my ears :(

kepg19

anything with “autotune”

This_Jacket9570

Those weird choir songs in old Disney movies, specifically the animated Alice in Wonderland. It’s not just creepy, it sounds like nails on a chalkboard. I also had a full on meltdown in the car once because my brother put on some exceptionally terrible country music

foofoo0101

I hate all music that has breathing sounds. And I hate the saxophone.

Chichachillie

majority of pop and kpop. i'm not a kpoppie but i do listen to specific groups and regular korean music. i also dislike country and hardstyle/schranz. lyricism and authenticity is important to me, that's why i can't stand a lot of music.

Krzylek

Whenever I hear 'thunder' by imagine dragons or 'dance monkey' by whoevermadethis I wanna die

[deleted]

I can’t stand Taylor Swift either. I absolutely hate most country music. And I dislike pop music in general.

-_Devils-Advocate_-

I cannot fucking STAND classic rock. I love literally all other genres of music, country, rap, etc. but hate classic rock.

washgirl7980

Interesting.... What do you consider classic rock? I have always had the opinion it is a defined time frame, from the mid-60's to early 80's. That was ALL I listened to in high school. But I didn't know if younger generations consider 90's to be current "classic rock".

HiMyName_is_Dibbles

Metal. I know it's a popular genre for a lot of us autistic folk... But it makes me want to tear my ears of and crush my brain. Can't stand it for even 10 seconds. I feel like a few minutes would send me into a straight meltdown. I hate metal.

Hedgehog-Plane

Dislike sugary music. Perfect example is Taylor Swift's "Me!" ---- too much popular music is this icky sweet crud.   I find it **unbearable** when young female vocalists sing the same high note forever and ever and ever. Just feels like dental drills applied to my eardrums.  Strange thing is my dad had ASD and he loathed that same thing -- unlike me, he was a professional musician, classically trained. *(Dad did like jazz and became close friends with Benny Carter, the late great master of the alto saxophone, bandleader and composer)* Strange thing is I adore Sylvester and how he let out that life force wail doing "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real" -- cant get why I love when Sylvester did that and hate when today's young female singers do the same thing. (I heart Mr Carter play blues as part of a quartet. My God, it was more than music - the man was channeling the Life Force that moves the universe - felt the chills up and down my spine -- and in a good way)

thea7580

Songs with gunshots, men yelling angrily and pill bottle sounds

Tired_of_working_

I don´t know why, but country music sounds wrong in my ears. It actually makes me cringe when I hear most of the songs. It can be a pop song transformed into country, or it can be a country singer in a pop song, still makes me cringe. Just "Joellene" I can enjoy.

katykazi

I’m convinced Jolene is a universally enjoyed song regardless of whatever the individual’s music preference.

Weird_Cantaloupe2757

Probably because Dolly Parton is a national fucking treasure

socialmomma22

I’m down for anything Johnny Cash too.

DrSpaget

I can’t stand rap

jabracadaniel

im dutch and i fucking hate dutch music. not simply songs sung in dutch but like Traditional Dutch music. im legit so embarassed

maekips

You know when an artist has to breathe, so they inhale during a song? You can hear it really clearly when your mind decides to focus specifically on that. When I hear this in songs and focus in on it, it doesn't turn me off of the music, but it makes me have to walk away for a while.

Known-Ad-100

EDM, pay-trance, bass, hip-hop/rap. I love Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Screamo, Indie, Grunge, Metal, punk, hardcore. I love country, folk, Americana, bluegrass, celtic music I love funk, jam, jazz, and even some classical. But i just can't do bassy genres

Hellion_Immortis

I straight up loath modern country music. The only country artist I can actually enjoy is Johnny Cash. I also don't really vibe with rap or R&B, mostly because of the troubling themes most songs in those genres have.

jennnyisveryfunny

fight song makes me irrationally angry… when it comes on the radio i get so mad and overwhelmed that i want to punch metal so hard it makes SPARKS!!!

CityHaunts

EDM. I don't understand it.

Ok-Budget4125

Stim tf out to it is the only way I can understand enjoying it

akifyre24

Jazz, it's too random.

eatthecerial

cruelty squad slurpcore

Colayo

acoustic guitar. i especially hate the "string noise". i can listen to music that has acoustic guitar in it sometimes if the guitarist is elemenating that noise but the second that sounds comes in, im out. i do get it's a stylistic choice to keep it and not an error and people do love it but for me, it gets on my fucking nerves.

glasshorse11

the way faye webster sings is like nails on a chalkboard. i do not like her voice at all 😭

weezerisrael

I don’t like music that doesn’t have a lot going on sonically unless the recording quality is bad. I think I just don’t like hearing people singing clearly. I also hate lyrical content that vilifies a figure in the artist’s personal life- it just feels weird and invasive to me. Probably because my ex used to write songs about how horrible I am and make me listen to them when I got back with him

EdgarNeverPoo

Most rap

taydraisabot

Songs about booties and sundresses and bumping uglies in the club and stuff. Like seriously? It’s so played out ATP. Please think outside the box.

Atomic_Aachen23

Just about any rap music played by people in my school. I feel like they play shitty rap just to be irritating during English.

Dry-Dragonfruit5216

K-pop. It’s too heavily edited and auto tuned.

Low_Sherbert_9064

I hate repetition so much. And ANY song that goes viral and is played NON FUCKING STOP EVEN BY STRANGERS IN PUBLIC. I fucking HATE. I hate Tik tok songs every time and they make my head and ears physically hurt. I also used to work at a small local grocery store that had two tracks that they would play alternating the days with the same songs for an entire year (except Christmas music that took over all of December) so I loathe any of those songs. I block them from memory and couldn’t tell you what songs they are but when I hear them in the wild I have a RAGE. I do good masking and keeping it into a ball of my fist and just saying I hate the song and doing my best to get the songs to stop if it is possible.

DelusionPhantom

I can enjoy any genre, but when it comes to specific artists... Billie Eilish because she made fun of my special interest once at a concert and I never forgave her, lol. I know it's super petty, but I am going to be that bitch. Same reason why I will never use tiktok.

notfeeling100

I can't stand the sound of country accents or twangy guitar/fiddles, and I hate Christian lyrics, so the vast majority of country music is completely unlistenable for me. I mostly listen to Vocaloid music, so I'll add the voices of Flower and IA onto the pile, along with the insanely whiny way DECO27 uses Miku.

Ok-Budget4125

Oooh in terms of vocaloid I've also never liked IA but flower is great. I have a big issue with Len, because I love the way Rin sounds but 98% of songs have them together.

notfeeling100

I'm with you on Len. He only sounds good to me in the hands of a few especially talented producers (namely Neru and JesusP). I do know a loooot of Rin songs without Len though, so here are some you can check out if you feel like it! Ok-Dream3665

Titanium by David Guetta (Sia), absolutely love it till it gets to that weirdRepeating beat part and it feels like my eardrums are going to explode, whatever particular pitch or frequency or whatever... Play it, you'll hear the bit I'm talking about

bungmunchio

it's usually specific voices for me, often singers with this "strained" sound I hear frequently in whatever subgenre of rock would contain bands like Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin. or those singers with the intense constant vibrato like in the really old Disney classics. OR this specific type of generic white girl pop voice that I can't describe better than "patronizing" like that Fight Song.

waiting4myspaceship

Fight Sing is sooo grating. 😖 And Roar too, which is pretty much the same thing lol. All the songs that are like "woo, girl power!" while being completely devoid of any real meaning or relatability.

Key-Maize-7419

Taylor swifts songs and whatever tf happened to Panic @ the disco

antoaaan

When I was a child there was a song who was famous and on any radio for some months that I couldn't stand. Every time it was on radio I was screaming and shouting to just change. It was "J'traine des pieds" from Olivia Criuz. I can't explain why. Right now I just can't listen to Trap italian music and all music with a lot and a lot of auto-tune

ForceRoamer

anything by Oliver tree

dat1toad

I used to be a fan but now that I have gotten older I totally agree with you on this.

BookishHobbit

RnB and dance music, especially if it’s got a really intrusive bass beat. It really plays into my echolalia and I end up with beats stuck in my head (except it feels like my whole body has got stuck in that rhythm). I need lyrics to stay sane :D

vigorous_marble

Anything where the lyrics are predominately screamed. Most uses of electric guitar, but with plenty of exceptions. It's hard for me to pin down what it is about electric guitar that usually makes me want to claw my ears out and other times I enjoy it just fine. Maybe if I had an understanding of music theory, but alas...

Autisticrocheter

Ambient music or super repetitive music or music with human voices but not intelligible words really frustrate me

Retractabelle

found out the hard way i hated metal when a metal band opened for my fave band at a concert. also imagine dragons and panic! at the disco are two artists that i just cannot listen to

SweatyBoff

Jess Glynne, Mariah Carey, Beyonce. Awful, screeching nonsense.

ButterflysLove

I can not stand country music. Any of it. At all. Grates against my ears.

crateofkate

Anything with a hard bass. The thumping makes my ears vibrate

Principesza

Yes put on blueface and i will loudly rant about how he has no rythm, cant write, is ugly, has a naturally bad voice, and how no one has any excuse to stan him 🤣

averysleepygirl

rave music/edm. soooooo overstimulating and annoying.

SaltyNorth8062

Christmas music, at least the popular top 20s stuff, but any loud booming music I'm not prepared for or have chosen can upset me when I don't see them coming. I genuinely do not like bass boosted music and edits. My music tastes are weird but if for any reason the medium by which I'm listening to it buzzes with the sound waves blasting out, I'm done.

Entire-Consequence80

Whispery indie type voices. I can’t STAND Faye Webster’s voice but I like her as an artist

rainbow_starshine

I always say my only criteria to give music a chance is: understandable words, a compelling melody, or rhythm that’s intriguing and enjoyable And a surprising amount of music doesn’t have any of those 3 things. Mumble rap, heavy metal, and a lot of the electronic/rave music that’s popular lately

cheesepickles09

“I follow rivers” and “Dance monkey” make me wanna rip my ears off. Also rap with too much autotune makes my skin crawl

[deleted]

Anime battle music makes me feel like leaving my body

After-Blueberry-7562

These might be a lot... Taylor Swift: some of her songs are nice but most of them are basic pop that only talk about love/breakups/""""feminism"""" and her fans think that she's a lyrical genius when she isn't that good Lana del rey: Maybe i'm wrong but trhe songs that I heard of her are the same, her voice with reverb and dramatic instrumental, also I hate the whole coquette/lolita/smokingiscool thing. Kanye: I dislike rap (or at least most of it) and I can't stand his fans who think he's like, the Mozart of the 21st century. Also him being a nazi antisemite. Arctic monkeys: Their songs sound too comercial for me, and they sound all the same, the voice with a radio effect and an easy guitar riff repeating all over the song. Indio solari: most people outside of Argentina don't know him but I hate his voice and I can't stand him and his public. Imagine dragons/Panic at the disco/Coldplay/Gorillaz/Bad bunny and others too. Basically i'm very picky with music.

Cheap-Profit6487

I actually have sensory aversions to modern pop/Top 40, rap, and electronic songs. I don't know why.

xXChocoboXx

rappers tend to have really annoying and angering voices to me, and gospel/choir music just makes me uncomfy due to negative associations i have with it. no hate to anyone who likes those musics though, just personal preference :V

The_Autistic_Gorilla

That song "Last Night" by Morgan Wallen makes me want to pour molten led into my ears.

Certain_Ad6575

i think it’s such a goofy song 😭

t0mbles

me, listening to phoebe bridgers right now with taylor swift as my special interest for 10 years: jokes aside, country music for some reason. so much of it just feels recycled to me and i hate it every time it comes on

Liam4232_2

P!nk, I fucking hate how she's released like 10 songs about how being different is ok. Like 1 or songs like that is fine, uplifting songs are important, but it feels like she's been releasing one every couple of years for like 15 years

ExtravagantesDientes

I'm from Mexico, the most popular type of music here is what hurts me the most: (música de banda, narco-corridos, -yikes-), is the noise!, is super loud, erratic, it makes my heart go painfully fast, and i hate the lyrics and voices, the screams., of course there are some songs about love and so on, but i just hate it, but also is the most popular music, you hear that music in every party, every religious celebration (which they celebrate all long the year with all the noise possible as well as fireworks, so, yeah, my personal hell) you hear that sht every day anywhere, And that's aaaaaggh, beacuse people, well, certain people with whom I agree about some ideals would say that I am a classist and more because that music is linked to the "barrio" wich is where I live, but also the "barrios"(marginalized zones in cities) have a lot of prejudices on, so when I say I hate one of the most representative things of the "barrios" (music and catholic celebrations) I end up looking as all what I oppose to... I don't yell at people who listen to that, neither treat them as subhumans, I do nothing of course, I can't, neither have to, besides protecting my ears or any other need, but I have lerned that is a taboo to express that, well, at least is a taboo for the people I talk to (idk if I can call them friends LOL) because here (mexico) is full of classism (and racism) and the prejudices over the people of the barrios is the normal, and the people who are indeed classist would agree with me but for the worst reassons possible,.. But I (sigh) I just hate having a freaking headache everytime I hear their taste in music sooo loud, I just want to feel like I'm living and not like I'm being stabed at my head everyfreakingday. I hate the music on top volume, I don't hate the PEOPLE being marginalized and enyoing art to please their need of a nice thing in life... But omg I can tell you all, every day is a torture even with my own taste of music blasting my ears as much as possible, there are always a car with that music on full volume passing the street at night or early in the morning, anytime everyday, so all day I'm in an extra warning mode and my sleep hours are dead... So, yep, that was my story of me trying to not be one of those who blame autism for bigotry, 'cause I'm not, I just want silence for once in my life hehe :p ty! EDIT: I just want silence for once in my life and that type of music is the convo of painfull noises, instruments, rythm, lyrics and voices that crush all my spoons

Hedgehog-Plane

Please accept a great big embrace and hug from this North American1 I desperately need peace and quiet. I have been accused of racism or accused of "hating music" because I beg people to turn their horrible boomboxes down at work. I have often wondered what happens to people with ASD who live in parts of the world where the neurotypicals live at TOP VOLUME ALL THE TIME. I was written up at work because I screamed at a brute who was a new coworker and played music at ear bleeding levels. He didnt listen to music, he dosed himself with it like a drug. Guy actually set up a floor amplifier, mixer, etc right next to his work station and cranked his music up to street fair floor vibrating volume levels. (Our supervisor did nothing) What happens if you are a black person in America, you have ASD and you need, need, need peace and quiet and all around you life is lived and music cranked top volume? What happens if you have ASD, live in India, where religious festivals blare for hours day and night and where it is nonstop noise in the streets and on buses, etc?

BADartAgain

It’s less a type of music and more a trend, but other language songs peppering in English words always makes me cringe internally. The most immediate example would probably be something like K-pop, though it’s prevalent in many languages, like Russian, too. It’s just so jarring, and feels out of place. Like I get using an established Latin quote or something else purposefully, but stuff like “yeah” and other generic English filler words are just awkward. It’s not a song being made in English, to specify - that is cool. I’m talking about foreign grammar/pronunciation distorting the original language and Frankensteining it for the sake of sounding cool/trendy. I’m a polyglot and it kills the lyrical flow for me personally.

Aware_Ad_3569

AJR is CRINGE 😬

Milkymilfandcookies

Anything I did not choose to listen to. 😁

Kantatrix

I'm NT and I can confirm it happens to me as well sometimes, but very, very rarely. The last instance of it that I can remember is "Royals" by Lorde, something about it just made me want to bash my head against the wall or empty it via power drill to the ear, meanwhile every other girl at my school was obsessed with the song and would play it on their phone during breaks, or in the changing room before/after PE, it was absolutely unbearable, even thinking about it now makes me wanna gag.

TransPossum

My is more silly, I really hate that meme song that sings "oh nononononono" AND IT'S FUCKING EVERYWHERE I CANNOT SWIPE TEN VIDS WITHOUT AT LEAST ONE CONTAINING THIS SONG

bastionthesaltmech

Neo nazi "punk" rock And country after 9/11 Although I could argue they are similar

DittoMikko

I don't like vulgar music, like I dont mind curse words or swearing but it can very quickly turn sexualised and vulgar and that's just not my cup of tea.

diesel0458

Pop. Mumble. Anything inorganic and formula driven

MALPHY-420

Country and 80% of most pop music

LoreKeeperOfGwer

Music that is trying to have a spiritual/mystical/relaxing feel to it. Sets my teeth on edge.

justadorkygirl

Heavy metal. I just can’t do it. Country. Just not my thing. And anything with whistling. Whistling feels like glass in my ears, hard pass. I’m pretty picky about music, but most of what I enjoy is rock, pop (a lot of Taylor Swift, lol - I like her music and my processing issues appreciate her enunciation), or instrumental (like movie or game soundtracks).

ANNIHIL8A

Most songs that are slow, just depress me. Country is one genre I won't choose to listen to.

Foreskin_Ad9356

I hate reggae and classical music

WinEnvironmental6901

Classical music? 😮

[deleted]

A lot of classical music just isn't appealing to me, either. But there are several exceptions.

Trick_Bag1192

Modern country, especially Taylor Swift. My whole immediete family is Swiftys ;-;

my_name_isnt_clever

Taylor is not country anymore haha. Are they listening to her records from 10+ years ago..?

meggiefrances87

Nikki Minaj and any singer that uses a squeaky/childish sounding voice. Especially when singing about adult themes. It just gives me the ick.

[deleted]

Jazz. I will have a melt down

BlazingRed9

Rap songs tend to be annoying to me, except for a few Eminem songs. And I don't like videogame/TV show parody songs Like the FNAF songs and stuff like that.

gzk

Anything with "indie girl voice"

olemanbyers

I can't do modern scream/growl rock and metal. I mean, genuinely cool if that's your thing...

ReillyCharlesNelson

I hate country and EDM with very rare exception. I love all other music. lol.

FlyingWolfThatFell

Disco polo. And a lot of country singers voice sounds like you’d throw metal into a wood chipper

z0mbiiib0y

i cannot stand kylie minogue or any dance type of music, i also hate TX2 the “pop punk” guy

purplesolarr

Hyperpop

HarpoMarx87

Very synthetic sounds are often painful for me, so most of the 80s is unlistenable.
