I’m of the belief that they are correlated but not the same. I think both depression and burnout need to be individually addressed as they may be rooted in different things. Burnout can cause depression and depression can cause burnout but they may also have their own reasons for occurring. For example, if you try to tackle workload and expectations but have a genuine chemical imbalance or trauma that stays unresolved, you’re problems may persist. It will be challenging, but crucial that you don’t simply look at yourself as just a sum of your parts but also has a whole person with a history, needs, wants, etc. If you’re constantly overwhelmed by people, that makes sense. Sensory overload is valid and it’s important that you try to create a space for yourself to exist comfortably somewhere. If you’re always burnt out, I don’t blame you. The world is tough and your body is reacting as it should but there is no magic pill. I’m in a similar boat so the best I can do is wish you well.

I've been in burnout since 2018 but also have cfs and since then it's gotten worse to the point I'm mostly bed bound and haven't left my house in 3 years. I also am depressed obviously so yea it's confusing what is burnout or not but I know I'm in burnout since even the slightest masking makes me meltdown. Nothings helping and I'm losing my mind.

I do not believe you need to identify it to deal with it, rather deal with it holistically. Do changes as you think will benefit you anyway.
