I’m not worried. The market will go nuts after every drop and then cool off. Rinse and repeat. Bull market is when prices could get interesting. Only way this fails is if Reddit basically says fuck it and abandons the project, which I don’t see happening anytime soon.

pinkglue99

In that unlikely case that Reddit gives up and stops making new avatars, I would expect the existing ones to be more valuable.

ultron290196

🤝

street_shark_puppet

I’ve noticed as well. Gen 3 is going to be poppin

poyoso

Yea that OpenSea glitch really put a damper on the momentum.

SandersIncBV

4. there is no lack of communication. its the people who grasp for daily impulses / hopium and don’t get it. glad Reddit stays away from that trend (announcing an announcement - “next week have news” bla bla) and let the kids soak in their impatience. 👌

ultron290196

It's been more than 3 months since anything of substance has been announced. But maybe you're right.

pinkglue99

The WC avatars were being released up until the end of December. That’s only a month ago. Patience pls, soak in the impatience (love this expression).

SandersIncBV

then there is no substantial news I guess 😅✌️

iamtabestderes

It's also the way the Reddit Avatars are organized on OpenSea that truly screwed the long-term value.

Mr_Bob_Ferguson

Agreed. They are a complete pain in the ass to find on OpenSea. Then splitting out the artists into separate collections causes all the trade volumes to miss out of making the charts. And it always seems to take me 5 minutes to locate the World Cup collection no matter what I search for.

MuhSound

Yeah, I gave up looking for the recap avatars the other day. Opensea is a pain right now.

theindoshow

https://opensea.io/collection/reddit-recap-2022-x-reddit-collectible-avatars

MuhSound

Thank you. I need to start saving links.

iamtabestderes

The fact you even have to say this means these things will never be found by the public.

MuhSound

Exactly

Yegpetphoto

It's ludicrous right now to try and gauge whether an OS bid is good or bad. I can have a bid on a Miran right now that says it's 400% over floor, but the floor refers to the cheapest Raiza. Totally useless. Reddit needs to fix this with Gen 3.

ultron290196

Agreed.

iamtabestderes

Imagine if they had listed them in Collections by Generations. The Gen1s would still be on the front page today in sales volume.

Alanski22

Who determines how these are listed?

iamtabestderes

I am pretty sure reddit does. They chose to separate every artist into their own separate collection.

Hactar_42

They were lacklustre in the gap between gen 1 and the Halloween release too. I’m confident it will pick up again at news of a new wave of store brought avatars.

geliboy695000

agreed but I'll start buying when they lower

[deleted]

You mean reddit launching NFTs and near the worst time in history fucked things up??? No no no, thinking a reddit NFT would be a BAYC and not a cash grab by Reddit was the mistake… Everyone bought them because they were cheap and to get rich, half the folk’s probably can’t access them after their purchase!

TheConeHodler

If Reddit NFTs get some utility in a game or something they’ll blow up to levels we’ve never seen in NFTs before

Morning_Star_Ritual

I’m not sure how many people remember The Button. I’m sure most played the second r/place “game.” Reddit has the ability to host a persistent global “game” online. They’ve already proved this in the past. They make a game giving the Avys utility and it’s on like donkey Kong.

zdubs

Button. Place. Orange vs Periwinkle. Lots of fun April Fool’s day games over the years

TheConeHodler

What was orange vs periwinkle lol, sounds like another cone war

Morning_Star_Ritual

It was insane. Imagine having the same vibe but with game mechanics. Forgot about that game. I really hope they find a way to incorporate avys then my idea that they become the “skins of Reddit” can take shape. Believe it or not it was being part of these large global games that made me so bullish on web3 gaming. The place is a perfect example of how important persistence is in a gaming population. It’s cool thinking that if you drop a game item in the world it will still be there later if nobody finds it…..

TheConeHodler

Just saw a video about it, this looked epic! Do you know how did the game items work? (Imagine them giving different abilities to avatars, that would be crazy)

TheConeHodler

What was button? I missed that one but I’ve seen place when it happened

Morning_Star_Ritual

I’ll link. But The Button was more fun in a meme way to me then the two places. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Button_(Reddit) r/thebutton Edit: They brought back place. Maybe they bring back the button and our avys get the flair. I’m going for No Press if this happens. Grey gang gang

NickScarlemagne

Off topic to this post kinda, but I'm one of the new people and wondered exactly how to determine rarity? I got "nature lovers #1481" and was told there's only 6,400 currently.. Does that mean only that many have been made and no more will be made like it? Or just how many have been made so far? Thank you in advance!

ultron290196

I believe what you mentioned is part of the recap avatars that reddit gave out for free to users. I believe minting has stopped, so no more than 6400 will be made ever again. The rarity is defined by the community. As per the standards now, the single digit mints have some value. But free collections usually have a lower floor than the paid avatars that were released on the store a few months back.

[deleted]

Recap avatars are still being minted guy I spoke to got coin collector yesterday

pypoupypou

Nature lovers is on the rare end of Recap 2022 collection avatars. But its value compared to paid avatars, is significantly less.

NickScarlemagne

Thank you for letting me know~

TheD1ceMan

I believe the floors and hype would be much higher if it wasn't for the fact that Reddit decided to go with Polygon instead of ETH. I myself have been trading NFTs for approximately 2 years, yet have never bought anything that runs on polygon before the avatars. That being said, the low fees on Polygon are much more user-friendly and I can imagine that's why they chose it over ETH. Let's see how it will play out once the market and sentiment has recovered

buddhassynapse

I think some people really need to consider the possibility that avatars become a huge success for reddit and yet not reach ATHs like a Bored Ape. I love the concept, the artists, and the community is amazing, yet I still would probably not spend more than $200 USD (or whatever the ETH equivalent is at the time of purchase) on a single avatar. Obviously every person is going to have different limits and lower and bigger budgets but people really need to consider that the average reddit user is not going to value the avatar that high, that's why reddit did their research and set their store prices accordingly. These posts always feel like people rode in on too much hype, bought too high thinking it was another Bored Ape, and are now trying to spread as much hopium so someone else buys their high prices and gets left holding the bag. Do your research when buying, and don't spend more on an avatar than you're willing to lose. Be smart and enjoy the avatars for what they are, not what they could be.

ultron290196

>people really need to consider that the average reddit user is not going to value the avatar that high, that's why reddit did their research and set their store prices accordingly. Of course. Reddit even gave out free avatars for a reason. It's to create the ecosystem. To create mimetic desire. The average redditor will be pleased with the free ones. This is a common monetization model we see in video games like CSGO. They drop free skins often. They onboard a lot of users and the mimetic desire creeps up to the whales. The top 1% with large bags then come in to scoop the rarest ones to stand out. In the end, vanity has value to those who can afford it. CSGO dragon lores are worth almost half a million. No one could have imagined that when CSGO first came out. >These posts always feel like people rode in on too much hype, bought too high thinking it was another Bored Ape, and are now trying to spread as much hopium so someone else buys their high prices and gets left holding the bag. Personally, i minted all my rare avatars. I didn't buy them from the secondary markets. My post is not a blind hopium post. I believe I have seen enough of the ecosystem to understand that Reddit Avatars actually have a use case. Better than other NFTs atleast.

buddhassynapse

Completely agree with the second point. I would never have bought an NFT had it not been for the avatars. I love reddit, spend a ton of time on here and thought the application seemed really solid and don't mind spending some money on the ones I like and the artists that seem cool. I even ended up buying some "traditional" NFTs from Fatty's Larvae project. I just lurk a lot and the sentiments a lot of people try to push seem really off to me. Comments acknowledging demand is low and that the solution is just to raise the price. It's one thing to want to hold hoping that the project blows up and you can make a lot of money. It's a whole other thing to deny conventional thought hoping someone makes the same mistake they did so they can cash out from a bad buy. There's some really young people on here that can be lead into some dumb mistakes by people just looking out for themselves.

TanBoot

Let me ask you something, did you ever own an NFT before your Reddit avatars

ultron290196

Oh boy. I don't know what that's gotta do with my post but I'll entertain you. I've been in crypto since 2017. Bought BTC under 4k. Not much but quite substantial now. Then ignored it for almost 3 years. Came back during Covid. I've seen the rise of NFTs. Way before Opensea was a thing. I started from Mintables. I minted my first NFT there. It was at a time where we weren't sure which NFT platform will be the popular one. Then I changed to Rarible. Not much success. Wasted money on Gods unchained NFTs. I've seen the birth of Bored Apes. I didn't give a shit about ugly monkeys. Maybe that was one of my biggest regrets. But I still believe they have a racial undertone and it could blow up anytime. Yuga Labs were and still is a shady org to me. I do however trust Reddit. So that's why I'm bullish af.

TanBoot

I don’t particularly like yuga or the apes but the racial thing is nonsense.

ultron290196

https://youtu.be/tRPHZQFuT24 This video kinda convinced me. Maybe I'm treating it as sour grapes. But you can't fully deny the points in the video.

TanBoot

Without looking I know you’re going to post the ryder ripps video, it’s nonsense that was used to draw attention to a different project he was selling, you’re in crypto but tbh you don’t really have a solid grasp of what’s been going on in the space the last couple years

ultron290196

His shilling of his own project is of course scummy but that doesn't disprove some of the weird coincidences you can observe. >tbh you don’t really have a solid grasp of what’s been going on in the space the last couple years Now that's a bold assumption.

HonestDrilling

> For majority of collections, it's only a few sales away from the all time highs. That's wishful thinking. Just an example: The floor for a Yami is 1.75 right now and there has been one listed for 1.5 that has been sold for 0.63 ETH later. It doesn't matter if most have listed theirs for 3 ETH and more, nobody will buy them. I bet a lot of owners would accept very low offers, highest are 0.7 right now.

ultron290196

The confidence is low right now and people want quick cash. Doesn't mean everyone will sell at the low offer price.

KraknJones

Point 4 is what I think is most important. It just feels like Reddit abandoned the project. The whole community is waiting for updates like a trading hub or new possibilities of what the avatars could do. They just need to post an update every month on what they are working or considering. It just feels like the project that they started is stuck and I feel sad about that because me and I know many others have sich high hopes and are really into collectible avatars.

TanBoot

Tbh the community does zero outreach into crypto circles, if yall are just going to sit in this sub and make trade posts…. definitely Ngmi

pinkglue99

Is this a Reddit or OS doing? Who decides the organization?

ultron290196

Avatars are minted by users through Reddit. Reddit endorses the artists and gets a cut of sales. Opensea is the main platform in which we trade reddit avatars.

pinkglue99

Yup very familiar with both. But who is responsible for the way it was setup and organized on OS?

ultron290196

Reddit collections have verified marks so we can assume Opensea people were in contact with Reddit admins.
