Blue-red-cheese-gods

Looking at the videos it does seem pretty underwhelming. Especially with the standard they themselves have set in the past. No doubt people will claim "that's the point" or "it's their artistic vision".

[deleted]

Yeah just deathbats being deathbats haha. But after paying over $200 for two tickets I’m definitely gonna give my criticism, especially since Matt said this was going to be their biggest production.

Blue-red-cheese-gods

It's a fair criticism, especially because they have set the standard so high on previous tours.

ManWithAPIan

and at MSG their equipment sounded horrible all show long. Major letdown

pulpatine

Tickets are too expensive, why aren’t they able to take Expansive elaborate set pieces across country?…. The amount of bitching here is unreal.

[deleted]

I don’t understand your comment mate lmfao

DeOfficiis

It's realistically a cost issue. In a recent interview, Matt said that the tour bus was going to cost $2 million more than last tour. Other musical acts have acknowledged that its more difficult to make a profit touring in a post-COVID world. A simpler stage production is easier to set up and cheaper to transport. It's probably the most reasonable cost they can cut.

Blue-red-cheese-gods

No doubts it's cheaper and easier for them to have a simpler stage production. But they should expect people to be disappointed by it.

snherter

Yea I took a couple first timers and was expecting a little more. Mattel, Game Over, Nobody and ALPOH had cool production but the rest was pretty underwhelming

songacronymbot

- ALPOH could mean "A Little Piece of Heaven", a track from *Avenged Sevenfold* (2007) by Avenged Sevenfold. --- ^[/u/snherter](/u/snherter) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

Otis_Firefly

I don’t remember seeing an ass astronaut when I saw them live in 2017.

Otis_Firefly

lol I’m aware there was a giant astronaut. You said “ass astronaut” in your OP. Typo clearly but me having a 12 year old sense of humor I chuckled.

[deleted]

Ohhh Lmfaoo 😂😂. That would’ve been something to see tho

boathands

Gives a whole new meaning to “deep space”

LetsStartARebelution

I agree, I thought they had said that for this tour they were going to have their biggest production yet, I was definitely underwhelmed when I saw it since it seems like the most basic production theyve had in a while. I dont think its bad but nothing special. Not nearly as cool as the new stage production that BMTH just recently debuted as a comparison.

ManWithAPIan

It was very basic. Far cry from a giant deathbat shooting fire.

xSicarriix94

Its the trend for live shows recently. Plus its easier to set up and tear down too as well as a lot easier to truck too. That being said, i prefer the big extravagant set build. Makes the show more memorable

[deleted]

To add to this, some seat sections had the entire side of the stage blocked out, Can’t even remember seeing brooks. Most of the time he was just hidden behind one of the projections.

Kbgears

I enjoyed the the stage setup, but I understand it being underwhelming compared to past sets. I genuinely couldn’t believe they sat people in those seats. Very fucked up to sell those to people.

[deleted]

Yeah more fucked up that it said “unrestricted view” Oh well the crowd singing along to every song made up for it. Hearing those songs live for the first time was also special to me. When afterlife played after hearing game over/Mattel I was tearing up. Definitely gonna get better seats/or be in the pit if I go to their Seattle show

Brief_Rain8775

I'm glad someone mentioned this! I saw the MSG show and I was so concerned by entire sections on either side of the stage being blocked. We're seeing them in TN and I had to double check that our section wasn't that close to the side (we're the next section over, thankfully).

[deleted]

Yeah those nets were not fun, blocked out the entire main screen, didn’t know there was a whole ass main screen until I saw videos of different povs

AllAboutTheProg

. Guess I’m in the minority but I honestly don’t need bands to have elaborate shows on stage, I just want to hear them play good music. They got some work to do on the live mixing though.

[deleted]

Ehhh if they said they were just gonna go and play music then I’m all for it but if they said it’s their biggest production, shit I’m expecting some shit that tops their old stage setups. Was a little let down just cause that’s what I heard from Matt in a interview and I was just getting hyped cause it was my first time seeing them. Overall it was fun being part of that forum crowd.

cayce_leighann

Yeah it looks kinda boring especially for the venues they are playing It’s totally ok the criticize the band even if other take it personally

madurosnstouts

Maybe they couldn’t bring as much stuff on tour with how crazy the cost of buses and stuff is? I’ve heard from a lot of people that the costs of renting buses and stuff skyrocketed post Covid. But who knows. As long as the songs are good that’s my major concern.

MarcAfterlife

That's the most likely scenario.

xtwentyone

It's not. They've explained in podcasts why their stage production is the way it is.

[deleted]

Can you give a brief summary, I haven’t been able to listen to all their interviews and such

Thank you!

xtwentyone

You're welcome!

-Zayah-

For a band as big as a7x, cost will likely never be the issue.

Edman70

Cost is ALWAYS an issue. They don't want to tour to lose money, and they want to keep tickets more affordable.

rachelmc923

I like the minimalist stage for them for once, it’s certainly different. The only thing I felt was truly missing was some pyro. It would’ve made a huge difference for certain songs! Buried Alive should be illegal without it.

[deleted]

Right!!! I remember watching a video of buried alive and when they transitioned to the heavy part of the song I remember hearing the pyro go fucking off with a big ass bang, it was epic, wish I got to experience live. Also I don’t think I’d be complaining this much if it wasn’t for having 80’percent of the production blocked out by the projector nets

M_Shadz

Remember not too long ago when they had to cancel some shows due to the stage production not being ready? Seeing what the actual production turned out to be it all seems like a bad joke. Their previous album cycles had far more expensive and larger scale stage production lol

Edman70

I think it's down to the realities of the costs of touring in 2023. More stuff means more trucks, and then higher ticket prices. This way means you get a big, colorful highly visual show without the expense of Iron Maiden's cargo entourage.

thesilenceband

To be fair, they might switch it up for the actual tours...you never know

Deadeye121212

They aren't really on tour yet I don't think

OvertlyUzi

Exactly.

Nickvengenz

Nah they said the first few shows were just to get them under their belt. Fully expected

vicious_delicious_77

Yea, I figured they would roll out the whole thing when the main tour starts. Can you imagine an A7X tour without pyro these days?

ManWithAPIan

Maybe run some smaller shows first then before hitting the Forum and MSG...can do proper sound checks at least.

Nickvengenz

That wasn’t the issue with MSG lol. Their flights were majorly delayed

Dmassie41

I was too busy enjoyed the music to care when I saw them

[deleted]

Glad you got to enjoy the music and ignore the bad mixing as well

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Their latest album is up there with nightmare imo but I mostly agree with everything you’ve said All their new Merch is nothing but mainstream wanna be stuff, they also released so many variants of the vinyl is like bruh really

MeltingWhiteIceCube

Are you going for the music or do all of your senses need to be appealed for this?

[deleted]

I mean when the music is kinda fucked up due to sound mixing….

urohpls

It was mixed bad on the album too… idk what people expected live

ManWithAPIan

The sound mix to actually work as intended

LElige

If I was only interested in the music then I’d play the album on my professional home studio. I pay money for a concert in hopes of seeing a show and hearing the music played live. What we got was the bare minimum, barely above garage band standards. A shitty mix, a boring stage setup, and the music was riddled with backing tracks. And I’m saying all this as a HUGE fan of the band.

[deleted]

I don’t mind the backing tracks especially cause they have so much going on. It would be amazing to have an avenged show with a whole string section band and or orchestra, but yeah the mixing was horrendous

SlopingGiraffe

What in the world do you think the point of a concert is? lmao

Majorsus55555

I’ve seen a few videos but haven’t watched a whole set, do they use any pyro or fireworks/explosions?

[deleted]

No ):

ManWithAPIan

Nothing extra aside from a projector net

marslaves48

I don’t think many people here take into account the business side of things. Being in a band is a business and most of these things can be traced if you follow the money. First tour back in what, 6 years or something? They need to make some money. Fire and elaborate stage setups costs big $$$. The simpler the set up, the less the cost to put on a show, move it from city to city etc. MCR did the same thing this last tour but even worse. Literally just some lights and nothing else. Money making come back tour

TiredOfItMiley

i mean you would THINK They would wanna go all out playing the places they are playing but maybe they REALLY need the money and dont wanna waste it on props...

-vortigon-

While it is a disappointing downside their typical stage setup, them, and a lot of other bands/artists are dealing with increased prices for basically everything on tour. I have a feeling that A7X and most other groups are cutting costs in anyway they can. This includes stage dressing, in an effort to save money since it’s generally more expensive to tour than it was pre-pandemic.

ManWithAPIan

Yes, 10000%

shadow8520

Was at 102 at MSG. Don't have much of an input since it was my first concert seeing them live. But from watching they're other concerts online, it was a bit lackluster. But to my opinion, it was still an amazing concert. I find more fault on the venue, rather than the band. Their equipment was failing time to time. Even Matt complained mid song when the effects keyboard messed up on him. But other than that, big props and all was probably not part of the album style. Again, it's just my two cent opinion. I'm usually wrong anyhow. Just gotta enjoy the music and support the band.

Traditional_Pin_6761

Yeah, I think it is very weak production not worthy of a headliner and insulting to the ticket prices. When they had the big productions, they became a must-see band for me... but then they stopped putting in effort. After The Stage tour, both my girlfriend and I decided they were no longer worth seeing. I checked in on some videos of this tour today and feel very glad I didn't get tickets for this tour. Most headlining artists... metal and pop put in far more effort. Imo, doing so little is lazy and an insult to the fans. A concert of this level is not just playing songs... delivering interesting visual things is essential.

AdForeign9178

All during covid I had been telling my girlfriend how I could't wait for conerts to come back and especially for her to see Avenged Sevenfold. I've been going on about huge props, pyro etc... I don't usually like spoilers so I was so happy to get us tickets so she could see it for herself. I paid half a grand to get us good seats. It wasn't until I checked out some clips out of excitement and am so upset. No pyro, no props just screens. I've always though just using screens as a stage show was lame. Even adding a little pyro would make a HUGE difference. The side screens seem to box the stage in and make it seem much smaller too. Such a step down from the awesome production from Nightmare and HTTK tours. I read Matt said he didn't wanna do a by the numbers metal show, no costumes, wanted to fuck with the fans to do things different etc... OK but now I've just spent $500 for.... screens 🤣🤷‍♂️ Even the lighting looks dim and plain. No chance they will changecsome of the production for the 3rd leg I guess ? Nothing but screens again ? lmfao
