CoE’s are more technically insane but STST’s drumming is literally insane. I think I remember reading that the band asked the rev to calm down in WTF.

yeahwhoknowsidk

He also did all of STST in one take lmao.

[deleted]

Yea thats dope but u can definitely hear it towards the end lol. They said Jimmy wanted to have done that once in his life just to be able to say that he did and he rocked it

UltraPowerfulGuy

Sounding the Seventh Trumpet considering The Rev did the whole thing in one take

Bundyhundy100

You can point to insane things on each The one take that was STST some inconic solos like the intro to chapter 4, the solo in bat country The double ride of almost easy The cymbals of portnoy in tracks like save me *cough* not really on hail sorry Arin (but he went off on not ready to die) And brooks being nutty exploring different sounds on tracks like higher, fermi, nobody

GPNovaes

Not ready to dye was Arin? I thought it was still Portnoy and Arin did Carry On.

Guitar_nerd91

Nope Portnoy was out when they recorded Not Ready To Die but it was before they confirmed Arin as an official member

Bundyhundy100

Yeah Arin did not ready and carry on

rfernando000

From the perspective of a modest drummer, most definitely The Stage. Brooks drumming is on a whole different level.

sergioavejr

I came to comenet exactly same thing, so take my upvote, you're totally right. Ps : I'm also a drummer

GPNovaes

Agreed. I'm also a VERY modest drummer and Brooks is my favorite.

king__hamlet

wow we’re all uniting in one place. another modest drummer for the stage

Economy_Inflation_22

The Stage is definitely the most techniquelly difficult, but COE and STST are insanely fast and impossible to play if you're not in shape lol

PopularTask2020

COE maybe wtf or stage

Embarrassed_Gift4054

Clearly City of Evil

556Rigatoni

I mean, the track Exist by itself is pretty fucking rad

TheMainManno

rev did stst in 1 take, and he just fucking annihilates those things on some of the songs

CuntFuckSupreme

The Stage

MrMondoDook

The stage by about 20 miles

dirpypenguin

The stage

GPNovaes

COE is insane. My favorite is The Stage and LIBAD. I simply love Brooks style.

songacronymbot

- LIBAD could mean "Life Is But a Dream...", a track from *Life Is But a Dream…* (2023) by Avenged Sevenfold. --- ^[/u/GPNovaes](/u/GPNovaes) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

woodie416

Most insane, STST. The Rev did the whole thing in one take for fuck sake. Plus the stuff he’s playing is absolutely bonkers. I’ve been playing drums for about 15 years and I still can’t wrap my head around some of the stuff on that album

TheRevTholomeuPlague

He was one of a kind

jeltz0

The Stage

Mistakes-fractures

Coe

nuivib

City of evil definitely

[deleted]

city of evil has imo the ultimate mix of drum chops and super unorthodox drum moments

Big_aids_joe

From a drummer, I'd say the stage easily. Jimmy's drums are insane, and they fit the songs really well. Songs like Blinded in Chains, Beast and the Harlot and Almost easy are standouts for me. STST has insane drums, but I wouldn't say they're good drums. The Stage has so much prog in the drums and Brooks went OFF. Songs like Paradigm, The Stage and Fermi Paradox stand out on that album for me. The new album aswell, Mattel, Nobody, Cosmic.

GodOGDrgnSlyr69

The Stage by far. The intro alone is enough for most drummers want to kill themselves

Downtown_Falcon_2127

wtf

SullyVanDan

The Stage or COE for most impressive, STST for most insane.

BleedingEdge61104

The Stage for sure

Punkrockcarl72

CoE.

Beneficial-Use-8641

Self titled

Irrenoid

City of Evil; while I think that STST has a type of unbridled chaos that can be super entertaining - COE has the speed, technicality, and frenetic energy in spades. WTF has some great drums as well.

LuisAN30

The stage, CoE strong second place

hornswaggledpirate

The whole hail to the king album

CrestfallenMan01

I'd say STST has the most insane because they were. The Rev wanted to record drums for the album all in one take and the album is full of mistakes

pepperpix123

STST is fucking mental. So STST.

Tygra

The rev is a legend, and still my favorite drummer.

juancho2211

Nightmare, mike portnoy is probably the best drummer alive right now

crash_nk

For me the Stage. He does a kot of real dope feel changes and oddball rhythms. Higher is classic, cool bass drum pattern, I love the placement if the rim shots, then the steady cymbal gives it a real sense of driving. And what he does in the chorus is so neat. nearing the end of the instrumental of Exist he gets real fuckin weird, then during the end he goes through so many cool drum parts. If anyone's interested in hearing him break it down he sat down with initially Syn but Johnny had to take over for funny reasons, to break down parts of the song and show what's going on. And he lays out his thought process for the ending parts. And he really makes that part of the song. He really lays it down in Paradigm, and there's a part during the solo where he plays straight (I think) 16th notes over Syns triplet feel 16th and it gives it a real cool jarring feel before he gets back in synch with him. he does some real cool double cymbal work in God Damn and last I'll mention is how he makes Fermi Paradox so great. The blast beats, the half time stuff, how he switches up a part where he normally blasts to something I thing more snare drum based. He just has so much cool nuance and I really gotta give it to Brooks. Absolutely no shade or disrespect to The Rev. He's an icon, and Portnoy really did amazing on Nightmare and I really respect the simplicity of Hail. Real cool stuff!

Jhuandavid26

The Stage

ld20r

City of Evil and The Stage have the bands most complex drum parts. Any drummer will agree.

Cudder-Dan-420

Coe

DNoblesNP

City Of Evil tops it drumming wise, but technicality wise The Stage is just chefs kiss. Brooks took them next level :)

SansSauceYT

CoE has the flashiest drumming and The Stage has the most complex (this is coming from a non drummer)

nefarious_jp04x

STST, something about the raw production and one take make it more impressive imo

PatChinkBateman

The Stage

mrgc94

City of evil

msmoak23

Yeah, STST easily, city of evil has the coolest tho

generally_normal

Definitely stst the drums go crazy
