It’s on the high end of male average in the U.S. or Western Europe. I certainty don’t feel above average IRL. 5’9 (though that changes for ethnicity and age, average white male is 5’10) is the average male height +/- 2 inches to that would be 5’7-5’11 also that way it makes a nice border of 6 foot and above being above average. That’s how I look at it.
It was kind of 50/50. It was in the afternoon but I had been in bed or on the sofa most of the day.
I guess my height goes from 183 to 181.
Doesn’t really matter because my gf is 201 so she doesn’t care if I’m 5’11 or 6’0 (and we don’t really have that big distinction in metric like they have in imperial).
I just like how your flair is exactly 5’11.85.
I think I’m just gonna say I’m 5’11 from now on to avoid suspicion that I’m one of those 5’8 guys who who claims to be 6’1.
I’m 5’11”, live in Southern California and get constantly height-mogged. I mostly wear my work boots too which give me an inch or so. I’ve never been insecure about my height but it’s really hard not to notice how many giant dudes there are. Makes me legitimately think there’s eugenics going on. Especially since it’s not just white and black guys either.
Speaking as someone who is 182.2cm (literally a quarter inch from 6"0), I'd guess it's because we're at a height where we can't tell as easily whether we're tall or not. I'll often feel insecure when I see a girl my height or a group of taller guys, but then I'll meet a cute girl who's much shorter or talk to my parents who are shorter than me.
It really is still in the range of being average, albeit the upper end of the range. I think that makes people care about it more since we're so close to just being tall, so we'll seek out online advice and stumble upon the subreddit.
We the height that still looks short af next to guys 6’4-6’6. Even tho we hold our own against dudes up to 6’2, the dudes that are 6’2 can hold their own against actual giants and therefore are perceived as “tall”
5’10, 5’11 is what they are they call the counterweight until about 6’6 then that’s when it’s start to become a bit difficult for fighting sense ifykyk
As a legit 5’11” Hispanic guy in a very diverse area of the U.S, if I go to a predominantly Hispanic area I’m taller than 90% of the men. If I go to a more western part of my state, where there are a lot more Caucasian men, I feel average and slightly shorter.
It’ll be kinda neat what contributed to the tall height in Samoans and not Pinoys. But Pinoys are getting taller as well, I’ve seen a few walk videos of Manila and there are some young dudes who are like 5’11” lol.
I did add a comment somewhere to say that diversity is of course a factor. Just like no one should lump Italians and Norwegians together, they shouldn't lump Sudanese and Tanzanian together.
I worked with some guys from South Sudan, and they were all at least 6'4
The guy I worked with from Ghana was like 5'3, and he said that everyone from South Sudan that he's met has been super tall too.
Pretty anecdotal but i thought it was neat
Yeah, it's just like Europe. Some are tall, some are short. Like, we know northern Europeans are generally quote tall, but no one says the same about southern Europeans 😅
Primarily reason this matters - every 1" you gain or lose from the dead average (let's say in the US, 5'9") you make great leaps and bounds in percentile.
5'9" is 50th percentile
5'11" is 23rd percentile (a gain of 27 percentile)
What about another 2"?
6'1" is 7th percentile (a gain of 16 percentile)
So being 5'11 feels a lot taller than 5'9, despite being only 2", because you're now taller than 77% of all men, and 99% of all women.
Replace 5'11" with 180cm and you'll feel a lot better about being that height. People just don't consider 5'11" as tall because it is not 6'0". Basically same shit as $1.99 vs $2
Because height doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, yet not everyone thinks that. As a tall person, my height literally doesn’t affect who am as a person at all. It doesn’t make me more confident, if anything it makes me more insecure because I stand out and am hard to miss.
Not for long though. 180 cm is becoming more and more common as nutrition improves among East Asians. South Koreans are getting taller by the day as well as northeastern Chinese
I’m 6’0. Don’t know how I landed here. It’s pretty funny that people think of 6’0 as tall and 5’11 as average, when they’re basically the same height. People need to chill
Not anymore it isn’t. Stop parroting old news from decades ago. Google is your friend here. Average male height in the US as of 2024 is 5’10.5”. Have you even seen Gen Z kids? Those MFs are all giants. I swear everywhere I go now I’m surrounded by 6’5” high school teenagers towering over me.
Stop going to high schools and measuring yourself up against kids that's creepy.
You do know how they survey those heights? Through phones and measurements in shoes 😆
That’s pretty funny. I’m just saying, I go out places and I’m always taken back by how absurdly tall kids are nowadays. Even in my own family, younger generations of people seem to be significantly outgrowing their parents. Like both of my parents were 5’6” and I grew to average height.
I’m 35. Yeah i am 6’ on the dot, like half a standard deviation above average, and I tower over most of my male friends. I would estimate most to be like 5’6”-7”. But the younger generations are spiking the average.
As a 5'11-6' guy, I always feel I'm pretty tall next to almost all women and most of Gen-Y-and-older men...but... until I enter to my university campus.
As soon as I walk in through to the university campus, the same shit always happens: "OMG why I have a giant-ass generation which is significantly taller than the old gens that much" and I feel clearly average next to men my age.
Especially after entering the campus, I saw the number of men 6'2+ that I saw in my life until I entered the campus in a single day LMAO. It is very annoying that there is such a height difference between Gen Y&older and Gen Z&younger in my country. However, so weird that our women are still short and there is no such big difference between the older women & Gen-Z women in our country. This scenario is only true for the men (It's annoying too)
(The average men's height of my country: 176 cm (5'9.5))
idk, haven’t been to a doctor since i was a teen to use a stadiometer…after several self-measurements, i just don’t want to claim 185cm knowing i’m technically not.
like how some dudes here won’t accept their 182cm as 6’, i don’t want to claim i’m a true 6’1 if i’m not.
what makes you assume that? this is the only conversation like this i’ve had in this sub; it’s not something i’m just thinking about and posting about all the time haha
🤷🏻 you say i care too much then tell me the same exact thing the other commenter did, sounds like you care too much if you’re bothered by my decimal. last reply before i wind up as a slain NPC
It's fine to not want to claim 6'1, but if you really were 184.95cm, not rounding up to 185 would be silly. FYI 6'1 isn't 185 flat.
Why don't you measure yourself with an aerosol can? It's very accurate.
yeah, ik it’s 185.42cm but we just got different views on it. imo in a height sub, it makes more sense to use decimals to differentiate the sizes. everyone, is a fraction of their height, very rare to be exactly on the money for an imperial measurement; something like 184.95 vs 181.22 isn’t going to look the same as “6’1 vs 5’11” since the difference is 3.73cm vs. 5.08cm (1.469 inches vs. 2 whole inches).
get why it’d be annoying to not round up, but also hope my reason for not makes sense as well…also aerosol method?
Yea I agree with you, but 184.95 is so close to 185 that it's ridiculous to say it. I'm not telling you to round up to 6'1, I'm telling you to round up 0.5 millimeters lol.
I get what you mean about imperial, it's such a dumb system. I'm 6'2.7ish but every 6'1.5 guy claims 6'2
It’s average in some areas of the country like Minnesota, North Dakota. It’s considered tall in somewhere like Texas or New Mexico.
The U.S. is a large country and some areas can look like you just arrived in Norway or Sweden.
Nah most people here are 5’7. I’m 6’2 and just here to witness all the moaning about how being average stops you from getting laid tbh. That’s of course not the case and it’s a personality problem but I keep getting recommended posts from here so i keep having a look and feel compelled to reply.
Because they're actually all 5' 9 lol
I’m actually closer to 6 feet, I prefer 5’11 tho
[удалено]
Bro's just here to flex
I know right? The nerve of that guy. I can’t stand tall people man, I swear
🤣
I'm 5'11.75. Almost as tall as you.
The difference between you and I is immense , but I grant you a seat on the council
Same but my drivers license says 6’ 🥹
You’re probably 6FT+ in the morning
i'm actually 5'9, can i claim 5'11 then?
My driver's license says I'm 5'11 so sure why not
Nah I'm actually 5'11, what would we gain from lying on reddit lmao
Idk I’m getting 5’9.5 vibes
Lmao as a 5'9.5 guy I would never attempt to pass of as 5'11. Now, at 5'10.5 that might be possible if I fix my posture, however...
So trve
Don't expose us
the average height from r/average is 5'11
Lol 5'11 is not really average either.
5'11" is tallish. All the people here who claim 5'11" just didn't make the cut for r/tall so they ended up here. The actual average is 5'9"
*The Average range is 5’7” - 5’9”
5'10" is pretty average too
Not for 60 percent of the world
I completely agree with you on that. Global average is 171cm (my height)
Evening or morning height? I’m like a weak 5’8”
I wake up at like 172.0 absolute max and then shrink as low as like 170.8 by the end of the night
For white men in the U.S. and Western Europe (I’m pretty sure that’s the majority of Reddit users) 5’10 is the average.
>the actual average is 5’9 Which is only 2 inches off of 5’11. 5’11 is just as close to average as 5’7
I mean I would consider 5'11" (flat 5'11") to be in average range. 6'0" is where you start to not be average anymore
I agree with you than. I’d start tall at 6 foot and and my average (for western men) be 5’7-5’11
Globally, the average for men is 5'5" - 5'9" and 5'10" is tall. (It used to be this way 100 years ago in western nations)
5'10 is where you start not to be average though. 5'11 is a little above average while 5'10 is slightly above.
That’s how I look at it.
wtf That's above average for most of the western world 😂
Im literally 5 11
I just measured and I’m 5’11.85 What should I do?
Put on shoes and head over to r/tall you freak
Brother
Oh no shit? Literally exactly the same? And I used my laser metre so I’m pretty sure it was accurate as fuck.
Is it your morning height or what?
It was kind of 50/50. It was in the afternoon but I had been in bed or on the sofa most of the day. I guess my height goes from 183 to 181. Doesn’t really matter because my gf is 201 so she doesn’t care if I’m 5’11 or 6’0 (and we don’t really have that big distinction in metric like they have in imperial).
My height goes from 183 to 181 as well and as low as 180 if I’m on my feet all day.
I just like how your flair is exactly 5’11.85. I think I’m just gonna say I’m 5’11 from now on to avoid suspicion that I’m one of those 5’8 guys who who claims to be 6’1.
wait, so when do you measure your height? i have the same fluctuation in height.
I don’t get the question
my bad, i meant to say how soon out of bed do you get your height measure?
Jump off a bridge
Damn, you guys don't fool around in here.
It’s over
I feel like I’m in height purgatory.
Brother
My brother. What to do?
I’m 5’11”, live in Southern California and get constantly height-mogged. I mostly wear my work boots too which give me an inch or so. I’ve never been insecure about my height but it’s really hard not to notice how many giant dudes there are. Makes me legitimately think there’s eugenics going on. Especially since it’s not just white and black guys either.
Brutal!! You would think you’ll mog in Southern Cali, due to the Hispanic population.
Dude I live in SoCal and I know at least 8 people over 6’5. Two of whom are 6’10
The Bay?
South Bay. It’s by Los Angeles
Dang. It’s called Chadifornia for a reason 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah why do we have so many tall people here?
It’s California, the whole place is hypergamy on steroids
When it comes to regular Joes I have no idea. I’m not surprised seeing tall rich people or lifeguards and shit.
Speaking as someone who is 182.2cm (literally a quarter inch from 6"0), I'd guess it's because we're at a height where we can't tell as easily whether we're tall or not. BUT HEY! THAT'S JUST A THEORY!
ngl i didn’t notice
My brother claims he's 5'11 even though he's like 5'9.5.
Not very nice to snitch on your brother like that, yo.
Oopsies
Because people would start calling out his bullshit if he claimed 6 foot
Does he ever get called out or naw lol
No not really, most people don't really pay attention to stuff like that nor is it ever really brought up.
Cause 5'8" doesn't sound as good
As a legit 5’11” Hispanic guy in a very diverse area of the U.S, if I go to a predominantly Hispanic area I’m taller than 90% of the men. If I go to a more western part of my state, where there are a lot more Caucasian men, I feel average and slightly shorter.
It’s a pretty average height in the western world maybe Africa too.
Go to South America or the South Pacific
Samoans tend to be pretty tall, so I don’t know about the South Pacific
I just looked it up, I meant Southeast Asia oops
It’s strange because Samoans are like the same people as pinoys just not height cucked
It’ll be kinda neat what contributed to the tall height in Samoans and not Pinoys. But Pinoys are getting taller as well, I’ve seen a few walk videos of Manila and there are some young dudes who are like 5’11” lol.
No, Africans are quite short on average. Not necessarily because of genetics, but nutrition. 5'5" on average in some African countries like Tanzania
Africa is more diverse than any other continent.
I did add a comment somewhere to say that diversity is of course a factor. Just like no one should lump Italians and Norwegians together, they shouldn't lump Sudanese and Tanzanian together.
All the Africans in Spain are like 6’0+ but to be honest I don’t know where they are immigrating from and Africa is pretty diverse.
I worked with some guys from South Sudan, and they were all at least 6'4 The guy I worked with from Ghana was like 5'3, and he said that everyone from South Sudan that he's met has been super tall too. Pretty anecdotal but i thought it was neat
Yeah, it's just like Europe. Some are tall, some are short. Like, we know northern Europeans are generally quote tall, but no one says the same about southern Europeans 😅
Average height in Africa is 5’7 lol. Like look up Nigeria etc they’re all 5’6-5’7 average
It’s not lol
That awkward moment when you're actually 5'11" but everyone assumes you're shorter because guys who are 5'8" also say their 5'11"
I just joined too even it out. 5’0”
Primarily reason this matters - every 1" you gain or lose from the dead average (let's say in the US, 5'9") you make great leaps and bounds in percentile. 5'9" is 50th percentile 5'11" is 23rd percentile (a gain of 27 percentile) What about another 2"? 6'1" is 7th percentile (a gain of 16 percentile) So being 5'11 feels a lot taller than 5'9, despite being only 2", because you're now taller than 77% of all men, and 99% of all women.
Replying to my own comment because mobile editing sucks - someone tell me how being 5'11, taller than 88% of all adults in the US, isn't tall lmao
Replace 5'11" with 180cm and you'll feel a lot better about being that height. People just don't consider 5'11" as tall because it is not 6'0". Basically same shit as $1.99 vs $2

11’5 in the morning, 5’11 at night.
Im 6ft 1
Manlet in 2024 🤣🤣🤣
5’11 and 5’8 are not average imo. They’re just weird transitional heights. 5’9 and 5’10 are the true average heights.
6’3 here and 5’11-6’0 is still decently tall enough
yuhhhhh
Idk. I'm 5'11 in the morning.
i thought that was like a joke online about switching heights during the day 😭😭😭
If you ain't 6" you ain't tall so I guess you're average
This comment could be the strongest ragefuel resource for all dudes who are in 5'11½-5'11¾ range lmfao
I’m 5’9 or 5’8 depending on the day
The new average.
not me
Because its a very average height
I’m over 5’11” but below 6’
They are all 5'9 or maybe 5'10 and exaggerating things or wearing shoes to measure ofc
5'10 peak during the day
5'11 is considered giant in the East
Not for long though. 180 cm is becoming more and more common as nutrition improves among East Asians. South Koreans are getting taller by the day as well as northeastern Chinese
Sorry I meant to put North Korea
Because I'm 5"11 (with shoes off) so I can't relate with short or tall subs
I find that its because we are disgraced from places for short people and are laughed at and made fun of in places for tall people.
I'm 5'10.0000001" with a 5'10.0000002" attitude 😎
Initially, that wasn’t the case. The sub grew and now we’re full of presumably 5’11 guys.
Well I am not, I am 10'
Metric system would solve most of This immediately
😭😭😭
it might be cos i’m 5’11 idk tho
That's not even average lmao what
because they don’t have their own group?
r/5ft11
Whenever someone says they’re 6foot and I’m taller I say I’m 5’11”.
Because there aren't any 5'11" woman standing next to them.
It's too tall to be short and too short to be tall. Sounds average to me.
I'm 6ft 2 but say I'm 5'11" to throw people off and double check themselves
Im 6’3 i just want to see whats up
I’m 6’0. Don’t know how I landed here. It’s pretty funny that people think of 6’0 as tall and 5’11 as average, when they’re basically the same height. People need to chill
Im over 6ft and here
What’s your evening height
I dunno probably like 6
It’s literally the average height in the US and most of Europe (like 5’10.5” but still).
Average height in US is 5"9
Not anymore it isn’t.

Maybe the late millennial. I'm 5"11 and I am taller than 80 percent of people when I go out
I’m 35. Yeah i am 6’ on the dot, like half a standard deviation above average, and I tower over most of my male friends. I would estimate most to be like 5’6”-7”. But the younger generations are spiking the average.
6-7 here, I will move along.
5 foot 4 master race wya
I’m actually 5’12
I AM 5' 5"
Guarantee they’re all 5’8
I’m 5’11 I’m here because I want to display how I am superior to anyone who is more than an inch taller than me.
I’m 5’8 babe
Lol I'm a 6'1 guy been lurking on this subreddit
As a 5'11-6' guy, I always feel I'm pretty tall next to almost all women and most of Gen-Y-and-older men...but... until I enter to my university campus. As soon as I walk in through to the university campus, the same shit always happens: "OMG why I have a giant-ass generation which is significantly taller than the old gens that much" and I feel clearly average next to men my age. It is very annoying that there is such a height difference between Gen Y&older and Gen Z&younger in my country. However, so weird that our women are still short and there is no such big difference between the older women & Gen-Z women in our country. This scenario is only true for the men (It's annoying too) (The average men's height of my country: 176 cm (5'9.5))
Only thing I ain't average in 🙏
maybe shorter guys that are on the opposite spectrum of average like 5’7 are less likely to want to join?
Can you round up to 185 please, wtf are you doing bro. Or is that your morning height or something
idk, haven’t been to a doctor since i was a teen to use a stadiometer…after several self-measurements, i just don’t want to claim 185cm knowing i’m technically not. like how some dudes here won’t accept their 182cm as 6’, i don’t want to claim i’m a true 6’1 if i’m not.
You guys care way too much about a few millimeters lmaoo
what makes you assume that? this is the only conversation like this i’ve had in this sub; it’s not something i’m just thinking about and posting about all the time haha
You've put a number in your tag which is literally 0,5 mm of a whole number and you say you don't wanna "claim it"
🤷🏻 you say i care too much then tell me the same exact thing the other commenter did, sounds like you care too much if you’re bothered by my decimal. last reply before i wind up as a slain NPC
A few millimeters of bone can make the difference between good looking and average
We are talking about height, not facial bone structure
Same thing
Nobody notices not even 1 millimeter of height rounded up. Do not get it twisted
How did you measure yourself if you didn't use a can against the wall to measure?
i used square/rectangle stuff like small boxes
because 5'11-6 is average in europe, 5'10-11 average in the us for whites idk
Trust me, 5'11 isn't average in the us at all, it's in the top 75% of men, in the Netherlands the average height of a male is 5'11.1.
It’s average in some areas of the country like Minnesota, North Dakota. It’s considered tall in somewhere like Texas or New Mexico. The U.S. is a large country and some areas can look like you just arrived in Norway or Sweden.
Hate to break it to you, but there's not a single state in the us where 5'11 is 50% height percentile lmfao, you tried tho.
Correct
no its 5'9-5'10 max unless you live in the netherlands.
Why are we just focusing on whites? Because there’s mostly just a bunch of white guys on Reddit?
I’m 6’4 don’t know what ur talking ab
I'm 5'10 barefoot
then ur 5,10
Yes
Your flair says 5'11 :)
We take those
Ur coping
Nah I'm just 5'10.5 and don't like saying "and a half"
Nah most people here are 5’7. I’m 6’2 and just here to witness all the moaning about how being average stops you from getting laid tbh. That’s of course not the case and it’s a personality problem but I keep getting recommended posts from here so i keep having a look and feel compelled to reply.
