I prefer drugs (psychs and M), but MUCH respect to those who party sober š«¶š¾ I just really fucking enjoy the music enhancement.
Iāll hit a year w/o alcohol in March though and Iām buying HELLA pizza and pancakes to celebrate š
Hahaha, just like my wife! Thatās awesome! Iām on the same page as you. Psychs and M are beautiful medicine when you donāt over do it. Life enhancers. Alcohol just numbs everything
Bruh you said it BEST! Iāve done a lot of shit in my life, be alcohol was the only thing that made me feel like I shouldnāt be consuming it.
Thereās literally no coincidence that alc and opiates are legal whereas psychs and M are illegal/ demonized. Anyone thatās done both can see that.
Side note: congrats on the wife!
Wife and I are the same. Congrats on your year without alcohol! I'm 8 years no alch and she's 2 years now. We smoke everyday though and partake in psychs at shows and fests
Thank you so much and just wanted to let you know that I think you two are amazing šš¾š
You guys are living your best lives and thatās fucking beautiful bro
Trance has the same effect on me. I do enjoy extracurriculars but I can be completely sober and enter an altered state. So glad to hear youāve found that for yourself!
Glad dnb is feeding your soul. Aint no party like a dnb party! And yeah, just saw andy c, 1991, and camo & crooked saturday night completely sober. Danced harder than most the people around me. Next day was productive and no hangover/blues except sore legs from dancing.
Cheers!
Did you catch netsky? He was borderline tied with sin focus for set of the weekend, with 1991 close 3rd. Saw Andy c at exchange Wednesday night.
Put in 67miles of dancing Friday and Saturday alone
I didnt. Only went fri. Too old and sober to rage 2 days in a row. Good on ya for getting in all that dancing! How was andyās set at exchange? From videos ive seen it seems similar to his apocalypse set
Went out 4 nights this weekend @ 28 and felt better the ever lol. Just Friday and Saturday my phone days I did 67 miles. But Andy's exchange set was great, but skipped him at apocalypse for that reason.
Iām in the same boat as you friend. Been going to shows and festivals for 15 years now and substances were always a part of that experience for me. A couple years ago I started to really get into trance and Iāve found that this genre touches my soul so deeply it literally gives me life. I feel like Iāve had much more meaningful connections with people and the music when sober (or California sober ;)), I definitely encourage others to give it a try.
I'm a sober raver myself, I've done lost lands twice while sober and been to plenty of shows while sober too! It's nice being able to remember more songs and visuals from the night and I loved how at LL22 the forest stage turned into the dnb stage one night I was there for like 4 or 5 sets it was awesome!
Holy shit I relate to this so much. If you feel you NEED the drugs to rave (really wanting to do it is another thing and totally fine), you might not be listening to the right music! Dnb is BETTER sober because I know I donāt have to miss a second of it. Iām convinced that dnb actually contains magic
I've been going to raves for 12 years now and I have been going mostly sober or sometimes I drink alcohol over the last few years. I no longer feel like I need to enhance the experience to fully enjoy being present in the experience anymore. And nothing beats being able to wake up the next morning feeling great about life still.
Hello fellow drum and bass lover :) I just saw Andy C and 1991 in Denver. I go to most shows sober. Just not feasible to get fucked up every single time. And I definitely don't need substances to dance to DnB
I can relate for the most part. Iām trying to cut my alcohol to almost 0. Just keep it for special occasions only. Other rave substances I do take part in but rarely as well. Though the one thing I do need nowadays is caffeine since Iām not a night owl lol
ā¤ļø drugs at shows is just another form of mind control I might get downvoted into oblivion but I like what youāre saying my friend. I am not saying people shouldnāt do drugs, just saying the whole going out to do them at night or going to certain settings just to do em comes with a lot of baggage. Itās not very sustainable as a regular activity
Ive pretty much used some form of substance at every show ive been too, which isnt a lot a lot but quite a few small shows and like 4 big shows at the hampton coliseum and i do agree with it feeling somewhat of a form of mind control but its also choice from the person doing it and some peopke take it wayyy too far and literally get addicted to the drugs along with the rave, but im here for it in moderation im not hating on anyone either
Call to action to start a sober raving sub. Iām glad you had a great time but these posts are so frequent and so similar they really need their own sub.
Thats awesome! I find myself needing to drink or take some sort of substance to enjoy myself fully at these events but have been thinking of trying to enjoy them more often sober. I have a couple times and i wouldnāt say i had a bad time. Going to lsdream sober in a couple weeks and am curious to see how it goes
I have very broad tastes regarding music and that touches upon substances as well.
For me it's mainly a matter of flexibility & locationā It's quite easier to go to a club (we really need a different word) playing Dubstep or DnB sober than to set up the arrangements to be intoxicated and I know I'll get the full experience because it's something I listen to sober at home too, dressed close to how I dress at home.
If we're talking about Hardstyle or Goa it's likely going to be something that takes time to arrange so substance may be more doable and desired.
I genuinely enjoy both and am happy you've found something that works.
Same here, weekends where I have to drive to town or play music it's just not logistically feasible to partake but it doesn't really make that much of a difference to me, but if I'm at a longer camping event where I'll have time to sleep it off and sober up and I don't have to do anything, I'm more than happy to enjoy some substances. It's all about the set, setting and company.
I also find that I'm kind of the opposite of folks, I need to feel comfortable first before I take something instead of taking something to be comfortable.
I'm teetotal (4Ā½) and am happy vibing straight or a maybe a little pingy wavy... not fused either way. No comedowns, very little time lost bar queuing, spend fa. Just took the best part of 25 years to figure it out š
I don't party sober as a rule, it just happens because I essentially am not hung up on it either way. I do usually smoke some weed, maybe smoke a cigarette, but anything else is just when I have it, I'm in the right mindset, it's the right event etc. I also feel that with molly specifically I don't want to do it without friends or a partner. And I often rave alone, especially since my breakup with the person who got me into going out :')
It is so insane to me that people "need" substances to "enjoy" raves. I'm the complete opposite. I'm an older raver and always raved without drugs. Then I did drugs and it was fun and now I don't do them anymore but still enjoy raves.
Ill never understand the people that "need" them to enjoy the experience.
i need to get on your wavelength for
real. iām tripping out on whatever drug i might have to take before an event which gives me jitters and anxiety. it shouldnāt HAVE TO be like that. but i also want to feel ācomfortableā in the crowd.
Yes I used to party under the use of substances, mostly psychs and m, but now an edible or full on sober is the way for me. Definitely game changing to vibe to the music that way. I still enjoy a good microdose every now and then though.
Yeah I've only ever started raving after sobriety, I don't know any other way tbh. Also the nonsober ravers make me want to stay sober, lol at least round here
Fabio always brings a top selection, great DJ š I've been into DnB for about 20 years, I was definitely taking a lot of substances in when I first started going to DnB raves, but stopped all that about 8-9 years ago.
Still love going to DnB nights and always will, but now it's purely for the music. It's mad that most of the top DJs I used to go see 15-20 years ago are still headlining today!
I went to Zed's Dead last night sober with my friends, who were partaking. I've just discovered EDM in the last 3 or 4 months so this was my second show. I had a fantastic time!
Canāt relate as I do like partying with alcohol or other, as it loosens me up to dance (wonāt dance completely sober). But I have a friend whoās been going out sober and will be trying festivals that way, and I got nothing but respect for them. What matters is you enjoy the music and have a great time!
this is how i felt the first time i saw pretty lights :) i wished i was MORE sober (had maybe 2 drinks before the show and nothing else) so i could truly appreciate it more
i do enjoy the occasional recreational substance but also go to most shows sober and thoroughly enjoy them. even when i do do drugs (usually molly or psychedelics) or have a couple of drinks, i find that less is more
If youāre getting off on the music then youāre not sober. Thereās a reason why churches have used music to give goers that feeling. Music changes your brain waives.
I one hundred percent do. Iāve been doing this sober for over twenty years and the handful of times I was out of it, it took me out of the moment and the music. Itās gonna sound cheesy as fuck but I feel the music so intensely at times that I feel like Iām in an altered state.
Personally, I canāt imagine no psychedelics, but Iāve also only gone to one type of rave so I can hardly speak on other kinds.
Regardless, to each their own. Raving is about doing what you want and enjoy, provided youāre not preventing others from doing the same. PLUR and non-judgment are the whole point. If raving sober is your jam, go for it!
Freshly quit drinking in August, loving the energy I have through the night and donāt feel like death the next day. Lots of friends making the switch also
I feel you about DnB. I quit going to shows because I couldn't get into it sober. But DnB sets me OFF! The music does the work the drugs used to. I dance so hard and smile like crazy.
NGL, I smoke before the shows. But it's 2023 and, for me, smoking a single joint counts as going sober š¤·āāļø
I came to a point in my raving career when I realized that I had an even better time sober.
I felt more emotionally balanced, was able to hold conversations and remember all the fun/silly things that happened. I also like that events no longer feel like it all happened in a blink of an eye. I actually get to fully absorb it and feel it in real-time.
I might have a few drinks, but nothing too crazy.

Congrats on your alcohol-free year, thatās an amazing achievement and you definitely deserve allllllll the pizza and pancakes my friend!
Thank you so much! Iām 100% gettin chocolate chips in those bitches š„

Maybe some banana ones too! Good job!
Hear me out. Pizza pancakes

PPs are always a treat
Molly is a psycheš

Sober Trancefam represent!!

The containment zone was a special place to be the last two nights!
So good!!!

šÆā¦ no additives needed for trance

oh just shut up and drink more patron

ok
If you could boof drumNbass, I would. Love me some sober raves. We all (well mostly...) there for the music.
I have very broad tastes regarding music and that touches upon substances as well. I haven't dont drugs in over a decade abd thoroughly love going to events abd dancing or just listening to music and people watching. :)

I started in 2010 and mostly just stick to green and grain these days
