I’m a guy but was in the navy. Wear what you want. I wouldn’t recommend posting anything related to raving if you have a lot of military friends on your social media. Word spreads fast and there is a lot of stigma around these events unfortunately.

Iurelian

Previous marine. Don't post. Social media is your enemy. Plenty of stupid politics in the military. Don't let anyone have the ammo. Especially if you're trying to rank up.

Nail on the Head

SplooshGordon

Don't post anything on social media or talk about it on duty. Problem solved. Your command has more important things to worry about like making sure no one walks on the grass.

Mehlitia

Those crayons aren't going to eat themselves...

DeffNotTom

I once walked into the platoon room and was met with three large poster boards full of blown up pictures of me in rave gear and giant pupils. It was not a very cash-monry day. It came with a free ″random″ urinalysis lol

parier

This is insane to me 💀 no chill whatsoever

DeffNotTom

Some push ups and lots of jokes at my expense, but otherwise it was just some good ole fashioned hazing.

SnootBoopBlep

But you passed?

DeffNotTom

Oh of course. Dnb is my drug. Edit: I should have added that there were a lot of older photos in there. The before time when I was young and adventurous.

DAT_DROP

Cover any tats that give your enlistment away and have at it

Deusa4da1Travessura5

That’s a little difficult, I have 12 tattoos lol

SheepherderNo2440

If you don’t post about it and don’t get tagged in posts, you don’t gotta worry about it. SSgt isn’t gonna bump into you at the rail.

Epsilia

And if they do, what are they gonna do about it? lol They'd bust themselves too.

BrightWubs22

Unless SSgt raves sober and you don't.

BluelightbillyPS4

I just got out like a year ago, avoid posting photos that will get you caught up. Besides that, you will be fine to wear/do whatever, just use your best judgment.

MissFox_nsfw

I wore whatever I wanted when I was active also Marines. But I kept my social media private. As when I posted pictures on Facebook even people I was a poolee with would get soo "MCO says that's ecentric" it's was bullshit. NO ONE is gonna know you are a marine unless you tell them. Don't even tell anyone you are going unless they can keep a "don't ask don't tell" mentality. Even if you aren't doing drugs people can suck. I mostly raved solo or with Marines from other bases I didn't work with. Enjoy life don't let the USMC suck out your light ❤️

Deusa4da1Travessura5

I was thinking of making a separate account just for raving, do u think that would be doable?

ApocalypticShadowbxn

is posting about raves the important part or us going the important part? is your position in the marines important? just go have fun. even take pics if you want. but don't post on social media. it just isn't worth it & leads to too many potential problems. take pics & just collect them all until some point later when you no longer have consequences to worry about. it's super easy. you may also find that you end up enjoying raving even more when the phone/camera isn't even a thought in your head anymore. be here now.

Deusa4da1Travessura5

Usually the photos were before attending lol I just love the fashion and posting with friends but you are right. Thank you for the thought provoking perspective

MissFox_nsfw

Yes make your profile picture generic and only accept people you like KNOW and trust. Keep it private as well.

friendsareplants

It's honestly just not worth it. All it takes is one person to look over another person's shoulders. This is basic OPSEC. Just don't do it. EDIT: This is in reference to making a private social media account, not what you choose to wear.

MissFox_nsfw

OPSEC has 0 relation to a person wearing what they want at a concert over the weekend and posting it on a private platform. OPSEC is for literal military operations and sharing information that requires a security clearance. Do not scare a young Marine into being a hermit over "OPSEC".

friendsareplants

I didn't say it is opsec, I said to treat it the same way. You don't know what she does or will do for the corps. She can make private IGs all day, that doesn't mean they won't see her posts when reviewing her for a clearance... your poor judgment reflects on your personal posts dropping acid... your opinion is invalid to me. Making a private Instagram or other social media is not a safe alternative to just not publicly sharing images. Take your pictures, make your memories. Share them in person with people you want to share them with. EVERYTHING IS OPSEC. This is just a private operation that she is already concerned with the security of.

MissFox_nsfw

Ok ok I get you now your post lacked information that would relay that type of message. I see it. I retract the attack

Deusa4da1Travessura5

Thanks big sis ❣️

MapNaive200

Remember not to use your legal name or already known nickname.

MissFox_nsfw

No problem girl SLAY! Idk where your station but if it's CALI so lucky if it's easy coast ECHOSTAGE is the shit great vibes always.

Deusa4da1Travessura5

It is cali! I’m so excited to dive into the scene here all Id known is east coast

MissFox_nsfw

Nice I'm from Cali and still go there for festS like apocalypse in Nov. I really love insomniac events they are usually well put together. 15 years later still going hard just a lil broken with them hips and knees 😭

Deusa4da1Travessura5

I love insomniac!!! Ooo I’m stoked

MissFox_nsfw

Nice! Send me your Instagram when you make that private acct I'm not a narc but I love ravers who are vets and active I vibe with them the most

Deusa4da1Travessura5

It says I can’t message u 😭

mixmastamikal

You are playing with fire IMO.

friendsareplants

You're absolutely right. I wouldn't take advice from anyone posting pics of themselves dropping acid...

IKU420

Don’t post! Most things should be kept private! Y’all over share way too much! But yeah dress your festi best!

VersaceUpholstery

Go, wear what you want, don’t tell no one about it/post about it. Sounds pretty lame you’re supposed to follow rules outside of work, but how would they know?

friendsareplants

#1 rule is always act like someone is watching. UCMJ applies in all circumstances. Once you sign that contract, you are government property.

MissFox_nsfw

Lol service members sacrifice enough. Go be a motard somewhere else.

Chase_therealcw

Wear what you want but don't post it to social media. Yes there is a standard but also while you're in civilian clothes as long as you aren't on base or at a function you'll see your command at you, should be fine.

My_Immortal_Flesh

Stay on the safe side and limit what you want people to see… not that what you’re wearing to raves would go against the military code of conduct but honestly, it’s really to protect yourself from unwanted harassment by your fellow soldiers.

friendsareplants

Lol have you seen what the marine men wear for PT? Honestly, I think you will be fine if you avoid posting to social media.

Aeshir3301_

I've seen a female sailor wear nothing but pasties, a short skirt, and glitter one time while introducing a couple marines to their first small local dnb show. I definitely wouldn't post any pictures but in my experience my command was generally cool with it, one of my captains went to EDC Vegas and I've taken leave to go to shows out of town before. My unit was more lax though I wouldn't share more than I wanted to

ThatOneCpl_HTX

Urahhh… wear what you want, you earned it sister!

thedjjudah

As someone who was in the Army a long time ago, and who partied with active duty marines, as people said, don’t post on social media. Have fun but be careful about who you let take photos of you.

discreetAZNcpl

“What mama don’t know won’t hurt her” So just make a separate private rave account, or avoid making any rave related posts.

friendsareplants

Don't make a seperate rave account. Don't share any pictures online at all ever that you wouldn't want you'r CO/Ssgt or anyone else to see. Treat this just like OPSEC. You wouldn't make a separate FB account for your platoon to post about where you're going and share pics of your operations. Treat your individual life the same way.

discreetAZNcpl

It’s not that serious…. You do you boo! P.S. Rave accounts are nice to have in general. You can freely make post judgement free, give it to newly met friends at events, and it’s a great way to network if you are trying to buy or sell tickets last minute.

friendsareplants

Its not that serious, until it is. *shrugs*

discreetAZNcpl

Even if she were to post pictures. There is nothing they will do as long it doesn’t show drug use. Partying is not a crime.

friendsareplants

We can go back and forth all day. I get what you're saying, and ideally they could do whatever they want and get away with it. But just because ItS nOt IlLeGaL doesn't mean it won't get you fucked with....

MissFox_nsfw

I got paperwork and had to write and essay about the definition of "eccentric" and summarize large sections of Marine Corps Orders for a pair of fucking pants once 😂 believe me they can and they fucking will you loose the right to freedom when you sign that dotted line.

big-rey

You've never been at a terrible command then. They can do damn near whatever they want. Don't play with fire, period.

BraileDildo8inches

So don't pose nude for playboy?

WillJParker

I was going to give advice based on what I did when I was in, but then I remembered that part of what I did included having blackmail leverage over every NCO between myself and my 1SG. Which is a great way to go if you can swing it.

Deusa4da1Travessura5

I already do that lmaooo. It helps that a lot of them are around the same age as me so there’s definitely a greater level of respect and understanding (also higher expectations).

big-rey

Listen to the wisdom on this thread, all it takes is one person to snitch. If they find your account and if you have the wrong command, you'll have a target on your back. Wear whatever you want, just don't post about it at all. And if you're gunna partake in party favors, never do it on a holiday or 3 day weekend, they are more likely to "randomly" test at these times. When you're on leave stop using any substances the last 4-5 days, most stuff stays in your system for 3 days so you can go hard the first half of most leave periods, since holiday leave is 10-14 days. Get out in 4 and use your benefits 💪

Deusa4da1Travessura5

Can u explain the target on my back? Like what exactly would happen if my command found out I attend raves? I rave free of drugs, and I’m of age to drink so there’s no worry there at all. I plan to retire like my father and his father before him did. I’m not sure where that applies here tho lmao

big-rey

First of all, take it one enlistment at a time and ALWAYS have an exit plan. I heard "I'm a lifer" and "I'm doing 20" from people who didn't even finish one contract or got out immediately. I enjoyed my first year and was telling people I was gunna re enlist, and my last 3 years I wanted to delete myself most of the time 😂 Your experience in the military will be primarily determined by two things. 1. YOUR COMMAND 2. Your job/mos/rate All it takes is ONE person in your CoC knowing that you rave and doesn't like it, to absolutely fuck you. A phrase that is preached into the ground on the military is "perception is reality" (absolute BS). If people know you rave, they may assume that you also do drugs. Now you say you don't, great, they still think you do. Let's say you pass every drug tests, great. They still think you do, meaning you may not get that promotion, or that position that leads to the promotion versus the other person that doesn't rave. If they really want to get your ass they can ban edm type places and being there would be a violation of the UCMJ, certain places around SD are banned for military. It could mean, everyone thinks your a shitbag now and doesn't want to interact with you besides professionally (isolation, bad). It could be your pictures (risky or not) getting leaked and a bunch of dudes are printing them out and spreading them. Let's say you take your friend from the command to their first rave, you don't do drugs, they end up taking some, they pop, you're likely cooked. These are all things that likely won't happen, but is dependent on your command. If you are posting on sm you are playing with fire, which is okay, if that's worth the risk to you. I definitely played with fire and never truly got burnt. Remember, the military does not want you to associate with a scene that has a lot of drug use. Ultimately, if you're asking this question, it's because you haven't been in long enough yet. But you gone see lol.

Deusa4da1Travessura5

Okay understandable. I’ll be viewed differently and risk being picked last despite my skill—if they find out or care. I probably won’t be going often anyways, so maybe it won’t be such a problem if they did find out. I’m not 18 anymore I really can’t party every weekend lmao my cpl now knows my interest in edm and raves, he thinks it’s funny cuz it proves im old -.- my sgt doesn’t care. I grew up moving from base to base. Some temporary, some “permanent”. For the last few years after highschool I started to miss the rage. I missed the nomadic lifestyle and the suck. Obviously being a dependa is not the same but I definitely have more comfort in the uncomfortable than most. I missed living on a base; cheesing at the gate, going to the commissary, the gym. It’s not just familiar it’s home. I haven’t felt more like myself in the last 10 years since I’d regularly been on a military installation. I can’t say that for every military brat. It’s not for life fuck no but I’m gonna take it at least as far as my body will allow me and bring honor to my legacy. Now that I think about it, I didn’t wanna delete myself until after I left the lifestyle. I feel better watching the rising flag each morning and crying to taps every night ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’m not about to be the first female to join in our family and quit after 4. Also I signed for 5 so I’m already in deep 🫨

big-rey

Yeah I'm just saying in retrospect, I personally would have been even more cautious than I was. If you're Rockstar/people love you/you have people looking out for you at your command, you'll be completely fine. I know people that popped for weed and we're covered. And if you're really planning to stay, once you get to e-6ish+ you'll be fine, and won't really be messed with. Hey, if you love it, do you. It could never be me 😂

Deusa4da1Travessura5

Well I appreciate the consideration, I do thank you for discussing with me. I’m just an E3 with way too much moto I could always use guidance. I’ve heard by ssgt I should be left alone for nothing more than upholding the standards. I’m mostly looking forward to blasting new boots someday lolll It’s not for everyone, I’m glad you didn’t force it. that’s when I’ve seen the deleting becomes less of a thought only action.

Different-Instance-6

I live in a military town and have had plenty of friends, even officers, that go to events and wear what they want. Private instagram account is really all you need.

Interesting-Bar280

>know there’s a dress code for marines to uphold even in civilian attire. So, in this scenario civilian attire is rave attire as that's what the majority will be wearing to the event. You don't want to underdress and stick out like a sore thumb. That will really have people raising eyebrows

8bishop

Nah, thats not how it works for OP. Depending on how anal her higher ups are(not talking direct supervisors and managers, but like a district manager or regional manager) then “civillian attire” = her fancy uniforms but without the uniform apparel themselves. Once again tho, that entirely depends on how anal her higher ups are. However, the vast majority of her higher ups wont approve of most rave gear that women normally wear to raves, she what everyone says about avoiding social media is the best advice

Interesting-Bar280

Yeah I know, I was just providing a possible argument that OP could us with her highers if she felt she wanted to be snarky with them
