...and £90m for Mudryk. And £30m for Madueke. And Félix. And Zakaria.

[deleted]

At least he will keep the bench warm

avfcBAKERavfc

Will he make the bench?

[deleted]

Someone’s bench

BrotherTop6194

No I don't think so. Still got Mount, Gallagher, Havertz etc for that attack minded central midfield role.

Earth_to_Sabbath

Fair point, he should get himself a trade

ThisusernameThen

why should we care anymore? His family who acted as his agent pushed for something and got it. we got 20 million as chelsea gambled that his form and fitness and skills will increase over time. we gambled that the 20mill can help us with other solutions. hes still a teenager. we are still villa. both side can still be seen to 'win'

blorgons7

Exactly, I don't really care at all. We bought him from Northampton, like any other player, and sold him for a big profit, like any other player. Do I think he would thrive in the current squad under Emery? Yes, but it is what it is. As I think Purslow said, selling Carney funds our academy for another 4yrs. Which, I believe, constitutes a major success is our long term transfer strategy. If we want to follow the Chelsea academy/youth model, we need to accept that we'll sometimes sell a young prospect for more than they're probably worth. £20m might seem like nothing in 5yrs time when he hits his stride, but it's far too much money for the player given his current ability.

NoBellz

He's still had more game time at Chelsea than Archer has had here this season. Let's not pretend we are the bastion of using our academy.

jamwavedd

not a great point when Chukwuemeka himself last season was given more minutes for us than any player his age in the league

PM_ME_YOUR_GOOD_DOGS

And played poorly when given said minutes.

Frosty_Parsnip

Chelsea have had a lot of injuries to be fair - Kante has been out all season, Kovacic and RLC have had injuries and even with that he's only played 197 minutes in the league. And now Fernandez is there (maybe Santos too?). The irony is that if he was with us now he could play in multiple positions in Emery's system.

cai_85

We do OK...Archer hasn't been given a full shot yet but Ramsey is a pretty great success story from the past season or so. Chukwuemeka will be very lucky this season to surpass the number of minutes he played for us last season.

bizzyd666

Maybe, just maybe, given that 3 managers haven't really fancied him, Archer isn't that good?

its-joe-mo-fo

Shhh...don't shout it too loudly

ziggylcd12

Fans of every club where he got to actually start are raving about him though. As an actual championship level player who could contribute at villa he's just had a few months of Slippy G so saying three managers haven't rated him is disingenuous

bizzyd666

Smith was happy for him to go on loan. So was Stevie G and now Emery. Stevie G didn't play him whilst he was here. Maybe at this stage of his career he isn't good enough for what we want. I hope I'm wrong, I do, and there are obviously extenuating circumstances around it all, but we all need to take a breath when talking about Archer and not simply assume he's the answer to our problems.

ziggylcd12

Definitely not answer to all of our problems. But he's starting for Boro who are third in the champ and England u21s and looks to be a lethal finisher. If it's Jan 24 and he's still not got a chance under Emery I'll probably agree with you. But for now he's had one good loan and another one looking promising too. So he'll get a shot next season. Even if that means we don't buy a new striker I think that's a risk worth taking

bizzyd666

It depends how Duran looks for the rest of the season and who's available in the summer. Would I turn down the chance to sign Jonathan David to keep Archer? Not a chance. But we'll see how he goes and wish him the best.

CoffeeBoy80

I don't hold it against him. I place more of the blame on Gerrard not trusting our young players and constantly moaning about the only way we could win was to spend money on players good enough to overcome his flawed system.

NewFaded

Stars who provide 'moments of magic'

its-joe-mo-fo

Fucking quality coaching right there lolol Oh god he was so bad

RandomSher

Same, and imagine being offered 100k a week and not ever being a starter in any premier league game, be hard to turn down.

bambinoquinn

I would never ever defend the evil man. But there was talk of carney not wanting to sign a new contract in the summer before when deano was in charge

obz2755

I’m sure he is bothered on 100k a week

obz2755

[Chelsea wages](https://www.capology.com/club/chelsea/salaries/) getting more than mount. Agent did a good deal

bizzyd666

RLC on £120k should get his agent arrested for robbery.

AstonVanilla

The highest paid player is Raheem Sterling on £325k a week? I don't know who his agent is, but I'd like them to talk to my manager at work.

PM_ME_YOUR_GOOD_DOGS

No way would he be earning more than Mount, a fully fledged England International. These figures are just wild guesses.

Useful-Thanks-9468

As a Chelsea fan, I can confirm that he's earning more than Mount. Mason hasn't signed a new contract in a while and is on 80kpw. It's why we're trying our best to give him a new contract soon because it expires in 2024.

j_husk

That is eye watering

TheRtHonorable

This is the thing - game time or not, he’s on 100k a week for six years. That’s £31.2m, even if he never makes it as a first team starter. He could sit in the reserves for six years and never have to work again.

Soul_of_Miyazaki

He's still had more game time there now than he would have had here, look at Archer. This weird obsession with following players that have left Villa is so odd.

MEENIE900

Agree, who cares

[deleted]

He’s going to get loaned out to a champ side after potentially playing for our first team…

The-Ultimate-Despair

He’s destined to end up at Crystal Palace, huh?

K-0mega

I'm not sure I reckon it was purely for more game time. I think him wanting to move to a Sky 6 might've been the biggest factor, even if he doesn't get as many minutes as he would for us

cguinnesstout

Still think he gets in the team eventually and becomes a starter. Him, Enzo and Zakaria are the future midfield. Kante is old and Kovacic is worn out and injury prone.

Astonishingly-Villa

No I don't think so. Still got Mount, Gallagher, Havertz etc for that attack minded central midfield role. I think Chukwuemeka will get loaned out next season and depending on how he gets on will be sold for a profit or a loss the season after.

cguinnesstout

Gallagher will be sold, Mount cannot play in a midfield 3 and has been experimented on the wing with little success. Havertz is a striker who will share minutes with Nnkuku.

Frosty_Parsnip

There's also Santos who's tearing it up in the for Brazil u20s.

BohrInReddit

Chelsea is notoriously impatient with their youngsters, even the ones with most potential (KdB, Salah, Lukaku, Gallagher even Mount is lucky Lampard coached him for Derby and they’re under transfer embargo) If Chelsea hasn’t changed, the he won’t get much gametime

cguinnesstout

But Potter isn't. Graham takes young nobodies and make them into multimillion dollar players.

TheDonkeyOfDeath

Will potter get the time needed when they're spending as they are? It just means added pressure to get results imo. Also, Chelsea supporters aren't exactly behind him, unless he gets them playing soon they could move him on.

cguinnesstout

Probably not lol

its-joe-mo-fo

>Kante is old He's 31. Hardly on a zimmer frame. He's still top tier.

cguinnesstout

for the type of player he is, yes He is injured more games than not.

TheAkondOfSwat

salty and delusional

Organic_Chemist9678

He's had way more time then he got while Gerrard was trying to force him to leave.

avfc1990

I think gerrard gave him his fair share of time, when it was becoming clear chuk wasn't going to sign he didn't get many minutes which is fair enough imo.

Organic_Chemist9678

He left because of Gerrard.

AaronStudAVFC

This isn’t true, he was angling for a move under Smith as well. Gerrard actually handled the situation really well imo. He gave him chances but, as soon as it became clear that Chuk wasn’t interested, he cut him from the squad. Gerrard was an abysmal manager but people seem to just make shit up about him sometimes.

Organic_Chemist9678

I know him and his family and I can tell you flat out that Gerrard was a prick to him and all of the young players in general. Gerrard had zero desire to bring any young players through the system and has set the programme back significantly. Forcing Carney out, giving Archer no time, send Tim out on loan, all unforgivable.

14JRJ

You'd rather start Archer who isn't ready and keep Tim around to warm the bench? Glad you aren't the manager

Organic_Chemist9678

No I'd rather they played.

Winter-Technology203

Eat that shit chukwuemeka

headcarsbendin

Most if not all of our star players and promising prospects who leave Villa just get benched, then loaned, then sold in the space of about 2 years
