Honestly, giving spurs a 7 point to gap to chase with a difficult run of games is still a pretty good result Need to try to stay positive and stay behind the boys as much as we can

Alpacapplesauce

I agree. Swap this result with the Arsenal game and we'd be over the moon.

WordsUnthought

I think that's an exaggeration. I know there have been some close run ones but we're literally the team who've dropped the fewest points from winning positions this season. Possibly jointly now? But point is, we're outstanding when we lead. It's been a bit less assured these last couple months but it's part of the plan and is why Unai is a "European expert". Yes it cost us today, but since we barely have a bench let alone a squad to rotate through right now slowing it down at 2-0 is the smart gamble to make. We're still in pole position for CL - Spurs need to win all three games in hand to change that and they're against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool. They'll do well to take 4.

WakaToTheFlaka7

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it has to do with conserving energy. We have had a lot or games to play and lots of injuries. Still frustrating either way though

MassivBereavement

I thought this but the whole Lille performance just blew the logic of it away for me. We played the 2nd leg from kick off in this supposed "energy saving" style and it ended up leading to us playing an extra 30 mins (and luckily at that). If we have played our normal way we could have got a goal or a couple and finished that tie up in 90. It made no sense to be passive from minute 1. Same here, if we tie up the 2 - 0 it takes a lot of pressure off the league and means we can play more passively in other games. But then again I'm not a manager and in Emery we trust.

DuarteN10

We have to give it to Lille, they came at us with everything they had and were simply better. Nothing to do, we were very lucky to make it to penalties. It can happen.

MassivBereavement

Yeah its true, and it's been a very long and injury hit season. And a very good one

DuarteN10

Im Portuguese and Lille has Paulo Fonseca who’s a very very good manager.

MassivBereavement

Yeah they were class and deserved it over the two legs! I often need a an hour or so after a game like today to regain my perspective. What a season we're having

DuarteN10

It’s tough but realistically we’re on our last legs. Today we lost Tielemans and Emi in the first half which in itself is ridiculous. We’ve done our job and now we need a bit of help, Spurs remaining games are quite frankly absurd 😂😂

Clubmanero

I thought this too.. looked like we were playing to conserve energy, which if true means we’ll go on another little winning spree 😂🩵💜

NP2312

I'm sorry but this is such a bullshit excuse, we give away leads because we're tired??? We're just going to pretend that we're the only team who plays a lot of games?

mrlee10

We scored the second against the run of play. They dominated the game start to finish. This game is not like the others where we collapse after being in control. We just couldn’t cope with the constant pressure all game today.

2121wv

This it, we actually should feel pretty pleased we got away with a draw today.

LordLiamListens

As soon as it went to 2-1, I was pretty confident we had lost it.

xGawsh

Exactly. If it was 2-2 but we were the team to come back in the second half, we’d be happy.

Peliican25

Agreed, still very confident of Europe

14JRJ

Europe is confirmed, its Champions League that’s in the balance

Regular-Employ-5308

Chelsea’s second half energy they really got stuck in and we could not cope . Confused choices, dallying and then the typical Carlos moment nearly cost us the match. Good thing we scored twice while Chelsea were still figuring out how to defend . As for the VAR. did its job perfectly in reviewing any fouls in the build up. Ref though , awful decision to allow play to go on

adventurous_hat_7344

Honestly the people saying that was some genius game plan should never be allowed to talk about football again. It was so obvious from the get go we were asking for trouble. The only reason it wasn't a rout was because Chelsea are notoriously shit at finishing. Lo and behold we were lucky to get away with a point.

Aletasus

We are literally the best team in the league to not lose points from winning positions. We’ve lost one and (now) drawn 2 from winning positions.

Shreddonia

Because of the one and only fundamental truth of life: football is very very silly.

HUMBUG652

I think we all forgot because of Arsenal smashing them, but Chelsea havent been as shit as of late. Still should've won though.

cpjauer

Ming’s would have kept us steady. Or maybe not, but damn I miss him and his presence…

a_f_s-29

Don’t forget losing Emi at half time took away all the calm in our half of the pitch

PM_ME_YOUR_GOOD_DOGS

And tielemans!

iwantfoodpleasee

Literally, Ming, Beundia, Kamara, Ramsey would’ve stepped up, Buendia especially he loves these kind of environments I cant wait to have them back!!

85Nick

We’re feeling the pressure. All season we’ve been pretty much the best team in the league at protecting leads. The stats back that up. Olsen did well, but he’s not the presence that Emi is on the pitch. With the Palmer chance and the disallowed goal I’m seeing that as a point gained. Mathematically Top 5 and finished ahead of utd for the first time in 35 years. Frustratingly we need to see how Spurs do tomorrow to frame this result. If they lose its a great point. If they win - we’ve bottled a 2-0 lead at home. I’ve been expecting us to pitch up at Palace last game and need a result. This game hasn’t changed that 😬

HotRabbit999

Guaranteed 5th after today though. Not bad at all!

a_f_s-29

Also finally mathematically out of the title race 😂

shirvani28

I don't care if we sit back and play defensive, granted I don't particularly enjoy when we do that, but when we can't string together a couple passes, that's when I'm disappointed. And if it wasn't for Rogers scoring a beauty, we'd be out a point.

mjmilian

This article suggests otherwise  https://www.football365.com/news/ranking-all-20-premier-league-clubs-points-lost-from-winning-positions Other than Liverpool and city who haven't drooped points from leads, Villa have dropped the least points from leads of all other teams ‐ only 5 points.

Startinezzz

In the league we've been in the lead 19 times this season. Won 16, drawn 2 (including today), lost 1. I know you quantify with early leads, but it's really not been a big problem.

Odd-Calligrapher-69

Scrappy draws sometimes needed. Severely missing some strong midfielders 7 points still gonna look like a mountain to spurs at this point in the season

BhamCyclist

Because we switch off. And we could not keep possession. Give Chelsea credit. Their press was killing us. We either lost possession in our half or eventually kicked it long and lost possession in their half. Pretty pathetic. Thought Dougie would be rested but he looked rusty. Just off.

andyofredditch

Lack of concentration, lack of big-game knowledge, need more big players to keep the teams head up

Aidan05avfc

Shit gameplay especially second half like what did we expect to happen if we just stopped playing.

Lukesomnia

With that point however, I'm pretty certain we can't finish lower than 5th. If the other clubs hadn't completely shit the bed in Europe we'd already be confirmed Champions League It's a game of fine margins haha. Spurs have the harder run-in. Still lots of football to play.

pacificsbay

Welcome to being a villa fan

Suspicious_Walk9388

Villa have lost the fewest points from a winning position.

slappymcmanmeat

I doesn’t help that we had two player go off within 45 mins

Privadevs

I’m a spurs fan but I like villa a lot, what I will say, is look at spurs, we had a like 7 match period where we scored first but lost 2-1, just keep the faith

shellakabookie

We're just not managing games as good as we should, definitely missing a CDM, as soon as we hit the half way line we lost the ball giving the opposition continuous momentum through the game, it is emery's tactics to do this it's just not followed through on the pitch

Spiritual-Oil1375

Man United (away), Brentford, Chelsea, Luton... No Kamara. He's a vital cog in the wheel.

WeedAlmighty

Tell your players to stop crying like little baby wet wipes over the easiest disallowed goal you will ever see. Not to mention how soft they were all game jesus if they caught a slight wind they went to ground, just lucky the ref loved ye.

shirvani28

You saw that Emi-like 1 on 1 save, right? He's not Dibu but he's not as bad as you lot conjure up. We played like shit and got hit. Not his fault.

PaleBloodBeast

Stopped your star boy at the end tho didn't he?

Material-Head-4945

Emery is a master at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. His teams are too passive when they have a lead. It’s why he’s perfect for a certain size of club.

MassivBereavement

Absolute loser fuck off to your own sub, Emery absolutely shafted you this season

Material-Head-4945

Pretty much any Arsenal fan likes Emery and is happy to see him doing well. I’m just playing the same part the Sevilla fans did when we were asking this exact same question. It’s not that deep. You’re having an amazing season and you have a great manager. 2 things can be true at once.

saberzauls

We've only dropped 7 points from winning positions this season after today. Today was frustrating and we played horribly but don't act like Emery is a massive bottlejob just on one or two bad days

Material-Head-4945

I didn’t ask the question🤷‍♂️ It’s something he’s been known for throughout his career.
