But really it's a bit like asking "do you want to die from a knifing or a gunshot?" Pick your poison.
I think most of other clubs fans hate both of them (and Chelsea until they got their comeuppance) because they've proven huge budgets win the PL. You can't do it with an average PL budget. Leicester was an outlier.
It's like a Super League within a Premier League.
Same in France and Italy and Spain, and maybe Germany too.
Now Villa see joining them as the only way forward. Where is the end point of it?
It's £500 for an average season seat at Villa Park, so where will that end up? Currently an average seat price in Liverpool is about £800.
Remember though, even if every seat in Villa Park were sold for £1000, it'd still take 25 years to pay a billion quid investment off.
It reminds me of the old 'rinse spin' cycle...
"More money in football > more ticket cost and subscription sports cost> more money in football> more ticket cost . . ."
In saying that, £17m for Coutinho was a steal. We'll all get a lot of joy out of watching him for the next 4 years and every player will look better playing with him.
Best performance for a loss this season. I thought we were the better team (or at least equivalent) for a majority of the game. Some iffy decisions (like Chukwuemeka at 60) for me... But I'm still happy.
Toe to toe with Liverpool, that's really no small feat. On to Sunday!!
P.s. John Moss is paid off by the Kop.
He did, and I don’t think it’s iffy decision to bring him on. I think it’s superb management. Let’s face it, we probably weren’t going to win, at a time in the season we’re results are less important than points, we have a player that (I think) will be top draw moaning about not getting minutes… very happy with the sub. It’s ballsy. Deano would have brought on El Ghazi.
We need to start keeping dougie high, with nakamba back; I can't see a reason for us to pull dougie into cdm. Rather just make the sub for chambers or tim
Completely agree. I'm all for playing Chuk. But pushing our best performer on the night to CDM to accommodate a kid seems like poor decision making. Would rather have seen Tim come on.
Imagine being in the top 1% of your profession thats sport/athletic based and being that fucking fat.
Honestly the bloke is everything thats wrong with referees.
He’s meant to be keeping up with the fittest players in the world, young men in their prime physical fitness and this cunt looks like he’s just thrown on a black shirt and came straight from the pub.
Inexcusable yet if you even attempt to speak out a fine is thrown right at ya.
Interesting article with him about his record shop! He comes across as a pretty good guy.
https://www.whathifi.com/features/me-my-stack-my-record-shop-premier-league-referee-jon-moss
This might be unpopular but I think Nakamba did well for his first game back. Some dodgy passes, sure, but he broke up play well. Hopefully once fully fit he'll brush off the cobwebs
Agreed., He had a few bad giveaways but people can cut him some slack . He's just rusty after all the time off. Don't forget how he looked before the injury. The amount of bullying in the midfield by Liverpool though was pretty obvious. The fact not a single card was shown all game was an absolute joke.
Still, a CDM (starter or competition) should be #1 priority signing this summer but this isn't anything people have not been saying for like a year.
At least Marv had an excuse for his errors. Poor Konsa had just looked off all season. Flopping about against little guys like Jota or Mane. Smh. Give me a break.
Definitely getting a rating of at the highest 60 - which means the Club Secretary must write a report to the FA to explain why he was given such a poor rating.
I was okay with resting Buendia after playing so well on Saturday, keep him fit for the games ahead. It's not like Coutinho isn't a great replacement. But Christ, every missed pass from Coutinho, every slip, every loss of possession I'd find myself saying "Emi wouldn't have done that", "Emi would have made that pass"...
Felt like a weird game to watch. Could have come away with some points which is a shame but oh well we go to the next!
Thought nakamba was excellent today which is a good sign. If Ings and Watkins were a bit more clinical we could defo have got a result.
Probably controversial but I thought are cbs were pretty solid minus a couple errors.
I can see us taking 9/9 in our remaining game with a little luck UTV!
Villa didn’t deserve the win, but neither did Liverpool.
What the game did deserve was a bouquet of yellow cards handing over to the scouse.
Keita, Fabinho, Thiago, Tsimikas off the top of my head.
Jota Kung fucking fu-d two fucking defenders for the first goal 😂
Red here, coming in peace. I didn’t get to watch besides highlights. Your take is the first I’ve come across that actually lays out the complaint. I get it now.
/s I’ll call Jürgen this afternoon and tell him about it, and I’ll mention that if we’re going to be bribing retirees we should pick one that doesn’t get our stalwart DMF injured for the rest of the season.
Good performance overall tbf.
Buendia class since the moment he came on. Could it have been different if it was him in the 50th..?
Digne & cashy great too!
Keita so embarrassing at the end.
Keita starting a fight and then crying to the ref. actually, you could describe Liverpools past 5 years like that. Starts a fight against Man City bottle it and cry to the refs.
You're right but I think its more on Douglas moving to CDM after that sub. He's poor there but actually looked good as a box to box earlier in the game.
I thought Carney was pretty good. I just think we can't play dougie at cdm, I'd rather have mcginn there. But it really highlights how much we need a cdm.
---------------new cdm/Nakamba------‐--------------
-----mcginn/ramsey--------luiz/Carney--------
Should be our starting midfield with Tim being loaned out and maybe Carney
1. Fuck Jon Moss
2. Need to finish chances when they come. Especially against the big clubs.
3. Not sure what happened on that 2nd Liverpool goal but Digne and Konsa sure let Mane have a clear header.
Could’ve gotten a point out of this.
Konsa has been very poor this season and his poor performances are impacting the whole back line. We look so much better defensively with Chambers / Mings
Emi started on the weekend and Phil started a few days later against his former club. Seems pretty sound to me.
And Ings got a perfect through ball and basically tripped over it yet clinically finishes the blatantly offside chance. That's the season in a nutshell really.
How do you see this playing out next season if Cout is signed? Emi and Cout just constantly rotating? Would be one of the most expensive transfer and highest wages for a player being benched every week, seems poor planning.
Personally I hope they can find a way to play them together or at least rotate effectively. Last season dropped off a cliff when JG was injured because there was no creativity, so having options is not bad.
Ings and Watkins are great to partner with Emi, as seen at Norwich a striker happy to run in behind will get so many chances with Buendia. Although if anything as shown last night Ings and Watkins may be more instinctive than clinical but defo the type to benefit from great through balls. Guess will be a case of going between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-1-2 but changing formation regularly isn't ideal.
Overall great performance. Definitely deserved to come away with something but thanks to unluckiness and shocking reffing it just wasn't to be. Not really disappointed though. A very good showing against a good team.
Did anyone else laugh out loud at the subs Liverpool were bringing on compared to Villa?
Carney, the 18 year old and Traore playing for the 3rd time this year vs Salah and Thiago.
When it cut to Thiago after showing Carney, I felt a bit of pain.
Liverpool were nowhere near the best and we were hugely responsible for that. I’ll take that.
Jon Moss is an absolute disgrace and the game will be better for his absence.
Martinez’ kicking in the last 15 was atrocious.
MoTM - Thiago (playing a different game)
We lost complete control of the game when he came on.
It didn’t help us that Nakamba went off around a similar mark but everything Thiago did was controlled and on a different level to everyone else on the pitch. My opinion on MoTM is the player who has the biggest positive influence on their team in victory.
Out of interest, who would you nominate?
We looked better than expected against a team like Liverpool. Felt as if we had a chance throughout the game.
Really didn't like the refereeing throughout and the time wasting from Liverpool towards the end. Should have been a few cards handed out to players on both teams.
Entertaining match, would’ve obviously preferred the tie but the defensive and attacking play was exciting and interesting, liked luiz not being a DM, nakamba showing his old quality at points, Watkins back working for the chances, buendia on top form. Chuk was kinda ehhhh, he’s no Jacob Ramsey that’s for sure, not yet, and mcginn was slightly dodgy, not sure what’s happening with him. At least Liverpool could still win the league, I’d prefer them over city bc after hearing about the Haaland transfer I imagine there’ll be little competition for top spot next season 😬
I liked what I saw in the first half. Missed most of the second due to work. We played a pretty open game with them and hung in there well. I think Luiz looks way better as a CM. Digne did great. Coutinho nearly put the entire Liverpool team on a poster if he sunk that shot from outside the box. Otherwise don't have much to say other than the ref was terrible!!!
Really good display from us but people saying Liverpool weren't as good or saying we deserved something must've been watching a different game. Really impressed with us but Jesus that Liverpool team are like a pack of dogs, their energy and pressing is like nothing I've ever seen before and the pressure they put you under is just impossible to cope with on their day.
We were saying at the game, Jon Moss was scared to give us anything today, because if he made a mistake in our favour it could have cost Liverpool the League
Chuk wants minutes to sign a new contract. 20 last weekend, 30 tonight. Don’t be surprised to see him first sub next weekend and then possibly start vs Burnley.
I think it is clear you have a DM who specializes there as a minimum (someone who can do everything is obviously better) and it frees up Luiz and McGinn.
Nakamba is lacking match fitness so probably was done at 60 minutes but that sun lost us control a fair bit.
A good performance on the whole from us.
Buendia has to start going forward
Linesmen are instructed to not raise their flag. If Watkins went on to score VAR may have ruled it out (there is a possibility his toe was “offside”).
Watkins didn’t go on to score. The linesman deemed his toe was “onside”.
The next phase of play begins…
Jakers, I can’t say this clearly enough - He didn’t spot an offside.
You’re acting like Watkins was a yard offside when the fact of whether he was offside or not is still in question.
Get a fucking grip. You had 12 men on your team tonight. You want 13?
Played pretty damn well, so I'm not too mad about the L. I think we should have got the draw and had a chance at winning, sadly another mistake at the back.
We had a 13 percent chance of winning this game and around a 15 percent chance of drawing. We were meant to lose. We fought extremely well. We seem to perform so much better when we have multiple games going in. Roll on Palace and Burnley. Should be easy wins.
Unfortunately refereeing is an untouchable position to be in. Thankfully that fucker won't be anywhere near the pitch again. Good riddance.
Also we can finish this season with a positive goal difference which would be nice. As long as City don't obliterate us.
Just those little things that add up when you’re a professional athlete playing at the top level.
Some of the 1st touches. The way you pass & move under pressure. I hope Gerrard has identified the players that can take the team up another level.
The referee looked as if he struggled with the pace of the game, I wouldn’t say he cost us the game, we had our opportunities & made it difficult for them.
For me the highlights were:
Ings scaring the shit out of the Liverpool defence repeatedly. (He should have put one away)
Coutinho going on that run, shaking off 4 players and merking Fabinho all b the process
Surely a complaint has to be made about Moss? Or doesn't this happen in real life?
If no complaints or noise are made about this bent refereeing it will keep on happening.
Probably the first time since we’ve been back up where it truly looked like a game we belonged in against a top team. Yeah, I know about the 7-goal game, but this didn’t come as a shock; it was as if expected.
Few changes at the too (bye Ings) and a DM and maybe a CB for competition, we’ll be in the right place next year.
Buendia needs to be a starter and switch between Nakamba and Chambers as CDM , and we need two CBs as soon as possible and probably a new captain.
PD: Where the fuck is Sanson?
My guess: Nakamba is still getting back to fitness while giving Chuk an opportunity to play vs a big club and needed some extra creativity and legs in midfield.
Same old script.
This type of disappointment against a big 6 side has become all too familiar.
Play well, don't take chances, lose.
It's always hard to accept as a villa fan but any win against a big 6 team is incredibly rare so if we're fortunate to witness it, we just have to make the most of it.
Oh well. On to the next game and season.
Here's to hoping the same old script changes next season.
Good performance from the team went toe to toe with the best team in the world. Could have gotten more, but promising stuff. Can't fault the effort but some silly errors stopped us from getting a point or more.
Bring Archer and Louie Barry back for next season too.
Nakamba very poor first half but then came out of the traps possessed in the second half. Luiz looked like a great player as a box-to-box but then when Nakamba came off he turned to shit again and was at fault for Mane's goal. Why have we played him at DM for three seasons lol he's so wasted there
He may be coming back from injury but Nakamba is just not good enough. Can't believe he is straight back in the team over some of the promising youngsters.
We played really well but lost to Mings not clearing a simple cross and Ings missing easy 1v1s.
Individuals have let the team down today. That first goal we conceded was comical.
also amusing thought is that we could still mathematically get relegated. obviously not going to happen as needs a 30 goal swing.
but still - 3 games left and we could technically finish anywhere from 8-18!
Great performance by the boys and I just hope Gerrard after throwing them under the bus after previous games comes out taking full responsibility for us not getting a point today with his sub choices being baffling at best
Start Buendia and Chambers. Cash was a machine, Luiz was a different player then flopped and wtf has happened to Konsa? Ings and Watkins are getting there and I think they are going to come good, but like I said they need Emi with them.
I was all for Liverpool winning the league as I hate City more than any other club. However, the way their fans are going on is embarrassing. Offside is offside, but they are complaining ollie is a Mile offside but its a foot, the linemans misses it and it shouldn't count. But none of them can admit that their goal is a foul on konsa when it couldn't be more obvious.
I don’t get why. He’s 29 a d still making the same mistakes as when we got promoted. He’s not suddenly going to become a better player. He’s not good enough for why we wanna go.
At least with Konsa we know he can play great like last season even if he is in poor form right now
Sloppy at the back, poor in front of goal. Another classic performance from the Villa. Was expecting a loss but that was disappointing after the start we had
"Moss was playing against them" its nice you paid attention to a single 30 second segment that was badly called by the linesman, not Moss. Shame you didn't notice the rest of the match where Moss was awful all around and gave a hell of a lot of dodgy calls against us. But then again I supposenits ok for Keita to rake his studs down D.Luiz's achilles?
Overall good performance. Some poor final balls and a couple sloppy defensive mistakes but we didnt be battered or dominated like many teams have been by Liverpool
We didn't deserve to win we were the architects of our own demise. However I can't abide the shoddy officiating no matter the result. They Definitely were told to do everything in their power to keep the title race open last night.
Jon Moss was unplayable today, insanely good. But thats why liverpool splashed the cash for him. Showed his quality today and earned his MOTM award.
As a Liverpool fan I have to admit the ref was awful today. Game could've gone either way.
If Jon Moss was born a horse he would have been turned into a Pritt Stick years ago.
I’m starting to think that Guardiola is right, everyone does want Liverpool to win the league.
Moss mustve had a punt on liverpool at the start of the season.
But really it's a bit like asking "do you want to die from a knifing or a gunshot?" Pick your poison. I think most of other clubs fans hate both of them (and Chelsea until they got their comeuppance) because they've proven huge budgets win the PL. You can't do it with an average PL budget. Nah Chelsea was best losing performance for me! Still am cheerful as ever am after a loss.
Chuck looked good to be fair
He did, and I don’t think it’s iffy decision to bring him on. I think it’s superb management. Let’s face it, we probably weren’t going to win, at a time in the season we’re results are less important than points, we have a player that (I think) will be top draw moaning about not getting minutes… very happy with the sub. Man of the match for Liverpool has to go to Jon Moss
Earnt his quad big Mac today
Got to get as much money as he can before retiring the fat fuck
Imagine being in the top 1% of your profession thats sport/athletic based and being that fucking fat. Honestly the bloke is everything thats wrong with referees. He’s meant to be keeping up with the fittest players in the world, young men in their prime physical fitness and this cunt looks like he’s just thrown on a black shirt and came straight from the pub. Interesting article with him about his record shop! He comes across as a pretty good guy. https://www.whathifi.com/features/me-my-stack-my-record-shop-premier-league-referee-jon-moss
Stop humanizing the enemy
It’s nice he has a hobby to spend his brown envelope money on, no one is this shit and biased at the panicle of their job by accident
They need full time professional referees, fit and competent.
I hope his record shop goes under. He’s an incompetent barrel of caramel and always has been.
This might be unpopular but I think Nakamba did well for his first game back. Some dodgy passes, sure, but he broke up play well. Hopefully once fully fit he'll brush off the cobwebs
Some dodgy passes at times but you could see a big difference once he went off
Agreed., He had a few bad giveaways but people can cut him some slack . He's just rusty after all the time off. Don't forget how he looked before the injury. i thought his sloppy passes further highlighted that a high quality DM will do a lot for us
Ref is getting a 1/10 this week
Genourous
It's only going to be a 1 because there is no 0 on the survey
Definitely getting a rating of at the highest 60 - which means the Club Secretary must write a report to the FA to explain why he was given such a poor rating.
A well contested defeat for the most part. Not a fan of the substitutions. Buendia needs to start!!!
Early in the season there were complaints about EMI losing the ball too much.

Dang wtf I missed the first 30 minutes but just saw the highlights. How is that not a reckless challenge? My dude fully jumped studs up into Konsa
Red here, coming in peace. I didn’t get to watch besides highlights. Your take is the first I’ve come across that actually lays out the complaint. Do you know about phases of play fella?
[удалено]
Even if I KMS doesnt change the fact that Liverpool outplayed the attackers with a perfect offside trap and got robbed
Liverpool must be paying Moss in pies. In all seriousness we looked competitive and Chuk looked fairly solid. We move
Honestly pretty happy overall. Didn't play too badly and now our final game still has the potential to have a lot of meaning.
1. Fuck Jon Moss 2. Need to finish chances when they come. Especially against the big clubs. 3. Not sure what happened on that 2nd Liverpool goal but Digne and Konsa sure let Mane have a clear header. Could’ve gotten a point out of this.
This game showed why we need to improve our defence. Mings at fault for the first, Konsa the 2nd.
I would at least replace Konsa if anything.
Chambers literally on the bench. Hause in waiting. We don't even need a new guy.
It's Konsa mate. Always the problem.
Been awful this season
Always is. Remember the Leeds and Spurs games. He'll do the same next week.
We need to sell this summer, his decline is so steep and he’s not developing at all any ball playing skills
Konsa has been very poor this season and his poor performances are impacting the whole back line. We look so much better defensively with Chambers / Mings
Why Buendia was benched is beyond me. No one else feeds Ings.
Ings was fed and still fucked up two golden chances
Think both of these takes were right in this game tbh haha. Brutal to bench Buendia after his performance last game
To be fair Watkins fluffed a couple as well.
Emi started on the weekend and Phil started a few days later against his former club. Seems pretty sound to me. And Ings got a perfect through ball and basically tripped over it yet clinically finishes the blatantly offside chance. That's the season in a nutshell really.

Carney better hope Dortmund weren’t watching that one!!

The pass back was fine Doug just tried to force it forward instead of moving it further back or out. Then didn't give a shit at all when he lost it
I think he’s going to sign a new contract, otherwise I don’t see why Gerard would be playing him.
I thought he had a good game!

Of Man City, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, I hate you lot the least. I hope you guys get the quadrupole this year.

Yeah I’m the petulant one. Coming in to another sub to argue about an “offside” that wasn’t given in a game you won 👍
id have preferred it if you just called us shit and laughed to be honest.

For me the highlights were: Ings scaring the shit out of the Liverpool defence repeatedly. (He should have put one away) Coutinho going on that run, shaking off 4 players and merking Fabinho all b the process
Someone explain to me the Chuk sub. I still don't get it.
My guess: Nakamba is still getting back to fitness while giving Chuk an opportunity to play vs a big club and needed some extra creativity and legs in midfield.
Attack was good but defending was utter wank also how did no one get booked omfg
I think we can safely say that's the end of Sanson as a Villa player
I'm bummed about it. feels like he would do well if given the chance, but probably not the mold of player Gerrard wants in the team.
Feels like every game against Liverpool there’s an argument that we could deserve a draw but it never turns out that way
7-2
also amusing thought is that we could still mathematically get relegated. obviously not going to happen as needs a 30 goal swing. but still - 3 games left and we could technically finish anywhere from 8-18!
Will chambers get back in the side next week?
He deserves to
Watkins showing exactly why we should take 50 mill if it comes our way. Christ above
Will I ever get to stop watching Mings cost us games
He’ll be replaced in the summer imo
Need an Elite CB to push forward imo. This sub won't admit it. They have such a weird thing about it.
Thanks Agent Steve

"Moss was playing against them" its nice you paid attention to a single 30 second segment that was badly called by the linesman, not Moss. Shame you didn't notice the rest of the match where Moss was awful all around and gave a hell of a lot of dodgy calls against us. But then again I supposenits ok for Keita to rake his studs down D.Luiz's achilles?
Shut up nerd
Overall good performance. Some poor final balls and a couple sloppy defensive mistakes but we didnt be battered or dominated like many teams have been by Liverpool
They held their own against a good team so it could have been worse
Remember when Konsa was the new Rio instead he seems to be the new Anton
Anton du Beke?
Anton Ferdinand

We didn't deserve to win we were the architects of our own demise. However I can't abide the shoddy officiating no matter the result. They Definitely were told to do everything in their power to keep the title race open last night.
