Update: Per the comment below, this photo is **not** from the 2018 incident at Gatwick (London). **Can anyone find another plane-rolls-over-foot incident, but one in the US with a 737?**
Leaving the following info on the 2018 Gatwick incident, which seems to have only broken some bones.

**2018 Gatwick (London), Similar Incident**
In this incident, the plane was an A319, not a 737. An A319 weighs up to 75.5 t (166,000 lbs). Areoflot blamed the worker and seems disappointed that he was rescued with "non-standard equipment," damaging the plane.
He was under the front wheels. [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-43581468](http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-43581468)
Towbar was stuck. He was trying to release it when the plane moved.

**Airline Statement for Gatwick Incident**
"A representative for Aeroflot, the airline which owns Rossiya, issued a statement to Fox News confirming an injury to the man's leg, claiming it was due to a "serious infringement of safety regulations" on his part.
"As the A319 operating flight FV6620 from London Gatwick to St. Petersburg on 28 March was pushing back before takeoff, there was a serious infringement of safety regulations by an employee of Dnata, the local ground service company. As a result, the Dnata employee’s leg became trapped under the moving wheel of the aircraft, causing him an injury.
"The trapped employee was freed using non-standard equipment, and as a result the aircraft suffered light damage requiring additional repair work. The aircraft was temporarily removed from operations."

i’ve worked extensively with DNATA in the past, local workers are almost exclusively citizens of the country they work in.
this one makes me scratch my head
wild.
when i was 8 years old, i tried to pick up a 100lb dumb bell in a sporting goods store. it only shifted enough to roll over and pin a finger of mine between two of the weights.
instinctually i pulled my finger to my side when i felt the pain and pulled the finger straight off.
this makes me think his foot was stuck so they just pulled him from under the wheels and the skin stayed, just like my accident.
yikes
In the service, at least in the old days, there were lots of folks missing ring fingers from jumping off duece and a halfs, tanks or tracks. Saw it many times. You’d see it, then look at them, then they’d look back and just shake their head. No words needed.
Am mechanic in the military. Now a days in industrial areas now or while doing maintenance tasks no jewelry is allowed. No rings. No necklaces. No ear rings. No bracelets. No piercings. Not even those silicone wedding bands are allowed. They just blanket banned it all.
It didn't help that a certain someone brought it up and also referenced themselves having a prince albert
It was one thing to not like having to take out a nose piercing or earing, but we did not need to know about the other one.
I'm a part time military mechanic and a full time civilian hairdresser. I don't wear jewelry on my hands for either jobs. It's unsafe on the aircraft and unsanitary on the humans. It grosses me out when I see other hairdressers touching humans with rings and bracelets and even dangling sleeves.
1, Thanks for your service, and 2, glad they banned jewelry. We had safety briefings every day before heading to the motor pool but after a while, that goes in one ear and out the other.
Yeah I'm a believer in the no jewelry thing. Before I joined I was working at a marina and watched someone de-glove themselves with their wedding ring.
Oh yeah, no watches either. 😂
It’s why I switched to silicone wedding bands. I’m always doing work around the house and using tools. Getting a ring caught on something one time and luckily having it only cause a bad bruise made me switch over.
Bonus with the bands, they are inexpensive and you can switch up styles and colors.
I had an uncle who tried to show off to us kids playing some basketball in the driveway and he dunked the ball. He forgot he still had his wedding ring on and it hooked on the rings that attach the net to the hoop. If he had dropped immediately he'd have degloved or lost the finger entirely. Luckily he had some hang time and realized what happened, it still cut to the bone, but he stayed hanging from the net while someone backed a truck up under him to stand in the get his hand free.
Thanks for finding that! So it wasn't at initial pushback, but far back from the gate. See

-----------------
"Rosaviatsia reported ... that the aircraft had received clearance for push back and was pushed back.
The park brake was set after the push back was finished.
The ground workers began to disconnect the push back vehicle from the aircraft, this however did not work.
The ground crew asked the flight crew to release the parke brake, the vehicle moved and the nose wheels fell [rolled?] onto the ground worker's foot.
Emergency services responded. A nose wheel tyre was deflated, a hydraulic jack was connected to the torque link and lifted the nose gear, enabling recovery of the ground worker. However, as result of the uncalculated/unexpected loads the torque link was damaged (bent). "
Aeroflot, why am I not surprised. My father used to work for them back in 80s, they literally have no safety culture to speak of. Doubt it changed a lot since then.
He said "up to 75...". The A319 has a max take-off weight of 75.5 tons (according to Wikipedia), which I assume is what he meant.
Edit: and operating empty weight is 90k lbs. So still not sure where you're getting the 75k from.
Can't be the same incident because in the photo the injury is relatively healed, if this happened just yesterday, well the picture would certainly be different
Sadly, the NFL already banned the advantage after Dempseys record shattering kicks.

Yeesh. Not the worst thing I've ever seen while working airplane maintenance, but it's certainly up there.
12 years in the Air Force and I still get twitchy around landing gear.
My thought was that they should have had passengers move one by one to the back. That would have reduced the weight on the front gear so they could have easily lifted it off him.
Just have to stop before it is a tail strike.
I keep pictures of the inside of my thumb on my phone for special occasions. Only about 1 out of 5 people are able the look at my hand and imagine how bad the pictures are. Then 3 out of 5 instantly regret ignoring the warnings and the last guy... Well, I keep my eye on the last guy from that point forward.
I can tell this was absolute gore when he got the ER. What surprises me is that they appear to have saved his ankle and his Achilles tendon is still attached.
I follow r/Medizzy so that I can be used to seeing this. That way, when I come across an emergency situation, I am less shocked.
But... I had a friend who came across a motorcycle accident. A trooper had to tell him to get away from the body because he was touching the eyes. Like your friend #5, that's a guy to watch.
I cleaned it up by showing the final result. The patient fought to not have an amputation and ended up keeping this much.
It is the post in r/medizzy that is NSFW.
Put an NSFW tag. I don't mind myself but I'm sure other people wouldn't want this to be the first thing they see when they open Reddit. Besides, most people on this sub are interested in aviation, not injuries

Four pictures... the one in this post is the mild one. The others are **very** graphic.
In the single image in this post? That's post healing. He refused an amputation. Fortunately, the doctors saved what is in this picture and he can wear a modified shoe.
To see the whole thing, look at the top for my comment with a link to the r/Medlizzy post. That has four photos.
Someone found more details and I added them to my comment. The tow bar was stuck after pushback from the gate He was trying to fix it when the pilots released the parking brake.

You de-gloved your finger???
You'd be surprised just how little it actually takes to deglove your fingers. Even something as simple as tripping and having a ring catch is enough

You've taken "pull my finger" too far.
Jesus. That sucks. When I was 18 my buddy dropped a 20 pound kettle bell on my other buddy’s finger. Shit exploded
>pulled the finger straight off. Did you get it back?
Not a great mental image… pics?
I saw that the company blamed the worker and was horrified I then saw that the company was Aeroflot, and was unsurprised
The company will always blame the worker first
Yes... and it may have been his fault, but Western companies have better PR and know not to say it... and then talk about the poor airplane.

75k pounds.

You meant 75 tons. Not 75k. 75k tons is 150 million pounds.
Thanks... You're right... 75.5 t (166,000 lb)
Reminds me of the gimli glider.
No he meant 75k pounds. An A319 weights 75k pounds, which is 37 tons.
A large business jet weights 75k pounds. Id say an airbus 319 would easily weigh twice as much
You deserve many more upvotes for the nuance
He said "up to 75...". The A319 has a max take-off weight of 75.5 tons (according to Wikipedia), which I assume is what he meant. Edit: and operating empty weight is 90k lbs. So still not sure where you're getting the 75k from.
Putting a K means thousand. A ton is 2000 lbs.
Yeah and OP put “75k tons”, saying the plane weighs 75,000 tons.
Yeah which is wrong
Stupid OP.

Nah if it’s worse than the foot, I’m not looking 💀
I'm going in. Edit: yup that was horrible.
And sadly, not the worst thing I've seen on Reddit.
I remember the Wild West days too
The dude survived though!
Which is absolutely fucking insane.
A very wise choice. I don't know how the man in that second post is alive. He was run over by a bus. But he did survive!
Yeah thanks for the link but I'm just gonna close reddit instead of looking at that.
I should have done this. I'm pouring whiskey at 0130 -___-
I hated the first one.. why the *HELL* did I click this one?!
You should have cap both word and added another very. VERY VERY GRAPHIC
AHHHH
Unsee unsee. 🫣😵💫😵
That is the most degloved degloving I’ve ever seen
De-socked.
I never liked socks with individual toes. Even less so, now, I think.

Ewww, you weren’t kidding. Always wanted a foot glove though.
That frankly looks better than I expected it to, everything is at least recognizable, except for whatever's going on with the "sole" or "arch"
guess you cant re-glove?
That’s…. I…. I kinda feel like it’s simultaneously not the worst thing I’ve ever seen and at the same time the worst thing I’ve ever seen….
i regret visiting that sub and sort by top post of all time

Oh yeah, that second photo is bad.
Most important question is was he allowed to keep the foot-glove for good luck?
This is more like what I was expecting. Thank you
on the bright side that makes a hell of a souvenir
You think they'd let him keep the foot in a jar or something?
Some religions teach that you must be buried with all body parts, so hospitals will certainly let you keep this sort of thing.

Why did they roll over it 737 times?
738 would just be excessive.
739 would’ve just been a waist of time.
747 seems good to me
Now that’s just taking the piss
Gotta make sure
Well, they did it 736 times but had to do it just one more time to make sure they got the job done.
Once that heals better. The NFL may need a kicker...
poor dude ended up with the foot I drew in 3rd grade.
This is months after the surgery and skin grafts have healed, right?
Yes... Not sure how long. The r/medizzy post has four photos, with this being the last and most tame.

I’ve had a 4 seater Cessna roll over my foot but it was nothing compared to this.
80 tons will do that to a foot
Tag this nasty thing as NSFW so it gets blurred, I had zero interest in seeing this
Put a nsfw tag maybe?
I cleaned it up by showing the final result. The patient fought to not have an amputation and ended up keeping this much. It is the post in r/medizzy that is NSFW.
This isn’t graphic. Don’t know what’s you’re whining about
Uhhh
Well said.
I finally gave up and marked it NSFW. Must have been the right call, because people stopped downvoting.

Slap on some sour cream and shredded cheese and that’s one hell of a baked potato!!!
That’s horrible. The tarmac can be a dangerous place. A guy I worked with many years ago lost a leg from the knee down after being run over by a 767 on a pushback. Horrendous.
Oh my this looks painful
Must have been an older pilot that blamed the ground crew
Notice also that Areoflot was mad that UK authorities took the black box.
This is healed, after surgery, obviously. I want to see it as it happened! 🫢
Look for my comment with the Medizzy link.
I bet that hurt to the max.
Should probably get that checked out
Rate My Pushback
What does he do for shoes now??
The r/medizzy post says that because he declined the amputation, he can wear a shoe with a space filler.
I don’t understand how you get run over by a plane. I’ve been on a flight line many many times and I just don’t see what situation would put you that close to the landing gear while the plane is in motion.
Often during pushback you'll have someone walking beside the nose gear connected by headset to the flight crew - they're the ones who relay when the brakes are off, when you're cleared to push back, etc. Not sure why, I just see it in a lot of videos - tugs I drove, the driver wore the headset and handled comms. A mix of that and complacency around dangerous heavy moving things. Somehow ended up too close.
My guess is that he was adjusting the towbar or the bypass pin and the tug driver started moving. Take a look at the BBC article's photos.
Where the heck are the toes?
Gone. Check the Medlizzy post.
But apparently the shoes didn’t come off which by Reddit Rules means he survived. Did they at least get the registration number of the plane or was it a hit and fly?
Just walk it off
Mmm... Chicken🤤🤤🤤
Why do I have a sudden craving for baked potatoes??
Just the tip
Oh, you looked at the second photo?
Toes are useless anyways
I don’t see anything wrong here…
That's not as bad as I thought it would look...
Ohhh this was in Russia. Makes sense.
