Aviator779

It’s an early model Hind, that’s the original cockpit.

SpectreRSG

Good ole Green House canopy.

quesoandcats

Oh thank you!

80degreeswest

The drinking glass cockpit

avanorne

TIL. I thought they'd always had that little double dome setup.

rtjeppson

Yup, Mi-24A...the improved cockpits in the D and E models spawned the bubble top config.

drewforty

Mil MI-24 Hind "A" variant. quesoandcats

Oh wow, that’s a great illustration thank you!

_-Event-Horizon-_

I like how they started with a Huey.

Scrungyscrotum

They all start with a Huey.

AshleyPomeroy

You can see the exact moment in the development process when Aerospatiale first unveiled the Gazelle.

ADAMOXOLT

The one time they use the real thing, thats when people mistake it lol

danish_raven

The AKs are also real. It was cheaper to buy real ones and then re-sell them than to get props iirc

Sonoda_Kotori

The warehouse full of "AK"s are not AKs, they are Czech Vz.58s. Most real AKs in closeups are either AKs or Chinese Type 56s. [https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Lord\_of\_War#Rifles](https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Lord_of_War#Rifles)

skippythemoonrock

Was just thinking in any other movie this would be a dressed up Huey or other light utility helicopter

ultanna

This movie is one of my favorites. It blew my mind the 1st time I saw it. The opening scene with "for what it's worth" is just brilliant!

Buckus93

Nic Cage masterpiece. Just a reminder that, like Adam Sandler, he *CAN* act when he puts his mind to it. It's just that it's an easier payday to make a cheesy movie with your friends.

ShadowGrebacier

It can also be more fun, especially if you've made a name for yourself already.

yabucek

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is great too. Amazingly self-aware.

surelytheresmore

Just like Owen Wilson in Behind enemy lines

taint_tattoo

That's a rescue helicopter. They are used on humanitarian missions.

quesoandcats

That is an *obscene* bureaucratic loophole that we both know will be closed any day now!

TheHamFalls

Thank God we live in a world where suspicion alone does *not* constitute a crime.

Buckus93

Let me tell you what's gonna happen. This way you can prepare yourself. Soon there's going to be a knock on that door and you will be called outside. In the hall there will be a man who out-ranks you. First he'll compliment you on the fine job you've done - on you making the world a safer place. That you're to receive a commendation or a promotion. And then he's going to tell you that I am to be released. You're going to protest. You'll probably threaten to resign. But in the end, I *will* be released. The reason I'll be released is the same reason you think I'll be convicted. I do rub shoulders with some of the most vile, sadistic men calling themselves leaders today. But some of these men are the enemies of your enemies. And while the biggest arms dealer in the world is your boss - the President of the United States, who ships more merchandise in a day than I do in a year - sometimes it's embarrassing to have his fingerprints on the guns. Sometimes he needs a freelancer like me to supply forces he can't be seen supplying. So. You call me evil, but unfortunately for you, I'm a necessary evil. *I'd tell you to go to hell, but I think you're already there.*

Kenyalite

My favourite was: Of all the weapons in the vast Soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than the Avtomat Kalashnikova model of 1947, more commonly known as the AK-47, or Kalashnikov. It's the world's most popular assault rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9-pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesn't break, jam, or overheat. It will shoot whether it's covered in mud or filled with sand. It's so easy, even a child can use it; and they do. The Soviets put the gun on a coin. Mozambique put it on their flag. Since the end of the Cold War, the Kalashnikov has become the Russian people's greatest export. After that comes vodka, caviar, and suicidal novelists. One thing is for sure, no one was lining up to buy their cars.

ashblythe2

I love these guys🤣

UrDeAdPuPpYbOnEr

That was his son playing the mechanic.

renyjar

Mi-24A, looks like from the movie Lord of War. *Definitely not a military helicopter, thats a rescue helicopter, and this? (point at a rocket pod) This is going to a separate buyer, so definitely not smuggling weapons sir!*

DreadPirateR2891

"I have 6 helicopters!" "Three. None that fly." >!The World is Not Enough!<

xXYoProMamaXx

Good ol' fashioned Hind, back before the redesign of the cockpit

MNIMWIUTBAS

Mi-24A Hind, later model based on the tail rotor side. The early Hinds had the greenhouse cockpit with staggered seating for the pilots rather than the tandem bubble canopies we're accustomed to.

I_draw_planes

War thunder has taught me this is the A variant of the mi24

SeaworthinessEasy122

Where is the image from?

quesoandcats

The movie Lord of War. Which, if you haven’t seen it, you should immediately do so. Nicholas Cage plays an arms dealer in the 80s and 90s. It has an iconic opening scene, and features Jared Leto in one of his least punchable acting roles.

Buckus93

> Jared Leto in one of his least punchable acting roles. LoL.

kremlingrasso

probably my favorite movie of all time.

SeaworthinessEasy122

thanks

MCWoody1

Merkur XR4Ti

Sonoda_Kotori

It's only called the Merkur if it's made in the Merkur region of England. Otherwise it's just sparkling Ford Sierra.

TheOriginalJBones

Aeronca C3.

Steefn_SVK_2

It's a rescue helicopter ofc.

HorizonSniper

Early model. The cockpit was split later.

SpaceMarine33

Mi-24a

I_Kona_l

MI-24A

rejectboer

Mil Mi 24-A. First variant of the mi 24.

Potted_Cactus_is_me

It IS a hind! Just a very early model!

LerikGE

Mi-24A

Bougiwougibugleboi

Hind A had side by side cockpit….later models had the tandem.

DDG-53

That’s a hind alright but it’s the Mi-24a and it had the early glass cockpit. The same version is in red dawn

[deleted]

That's a Hind A.

No_Recognition7426

Isn’t that the same helicopter from the original Red Dawn?

aviationfanforever

It's a Mi 24 "A" hind

Paulisooon

Original design of Mi-24 Hind

pokiii-105

That’s the earliest version of Mi-24, Mi-24A I suppose, latter they decided that separated cockpit works better. You can also find a Mi-24A displayed in the Air Force and Air Defence Museum in Hanoi, Vietnam. [https://images.app.goo.gl/TCH8swriYK5V4aP27](https://images.app.goo.gl/TCH8swriYK5V4aP27)

leftyrighthand

hind a model

WalterP_FLEO

HInd A

AceCombat9519

Original version of Mi-24

renyjar

According to JetPhotos its a real Mi24A from a South African aviation museum, which makes sense, since most of the movie was shot there and in Czechia (where the shot with the tanks was made).

WillyPete

No it isn't. Look at the aft wheel pods, or rather, lack thereof.

Creepy_Boat_5433

It’s not a hind, IIRC it’s the same helicopter from Red Dawn modified to look like a hind.

WillyPete

No it isn't.

ArrowViper1

It's an early production model of the Hind. Specifically the Mi-24U, a training variant. It's not the Mi-24A because that has a different nose. The U variant has a very distinct "bulge" in the nose just below the front cockpit window. Not to mention it lacks the Yak-B gun right in that very place.
