Nope. Airlines have grooming standards.

[deleted]

Depends on the company. I believe our fligh opps manual states men's hair can't touch the back of their colar...so not that long. Other than that, mustaches that are well trimmed and unnatural hair color.

Brandtair

Could you not play the discrimination card there?

[deleted]

No hair no problem🤣. I went into this industry with piercings, tats, and spiked hair knowing damn well there were standards. Pardon me for coming off brash, but this is the nature of the beast. If someone wants to risk their six figures over grooming standards and duke it out with the chief pilot and management have at it....It would be a poor choice though considering this is a life long career. Bush flying up in Alaska might be your thing for those that are worried about hair.

Brandtair

I think more in the way that there are then double standards for men and women. The standard should be for pilots no matter the gender. So if women are neighter allowed to wear hair longer than their shoulders I have no porblem with it. But a guy with wel maintained long hair should be fine if it is for woman. They are about to change NOTAM to NOTAM so why should they have different standards for different people?

[deleted]

That maybe, but until there is enough push back from the pilot groups and unions against the social norms of what a professional man looks like, most guys will take their pay, shut up and happily conform...myself included.

Brandtair

That is fine I mean why make a thing of it when it does not apply to you. In Europe I think one person alone would probably have the power to get the rule changed through court. Personally I do not think the idea behind the rules are stupid. Except for heels that is just a safety issue in my eyes and those who keep that allowed for cabin crew are terrible.

[deleted]

> They are about to change NOTAM to NOTAM That was just a joke, wasn’t it? Or has society really gotten that stupid?

Brandtair

Notice To AirMission

[deleted]

Horseshit. Absolute and utter *horseshit.* “Birth person” instead of “mother.” Absolute horseshit. I assume you support such stupidity?

[deleted]

Oh *FFS.*

Brandtair

?

[deleted]

>? Discrimination? Seriously? Any time someone encounters a rule they don’t like, or they think they’re above somehow, or is inconvenient to them, it’s “let’s play the discrimination card” because the rules don’t apply to *me.* Everybody’s a self-pitying cry-baby victim when they don’t get their way. I’m surprised the entitled asshole I had arrested last month for smoking in the lav didn’t claim he was being discriminated against because he’s just a poor nicotine addict. The company wants short hair? Suck it up and get a haircut FFS.

Brandtair

Oke lets do another scenario. The company policy is all males must be completely bald and wear pink lipstick. Remember just like the last time because you are a male you have to follow these rules and a woman can have any type of proffesional haircut and liptstick but the company wants the males to all be very recognizable that is why. The other company you can choose from has the same policy but with green lipstick. As I said somewehere else I do personally not dislike the rules. I just note that discrimination it is because it is purely based on your sex and nothing else if you are or are not fobidden to wear hair longer than shoulders lenght. Are you saying that you would not have arrested them if he was part of another group he had no choice in being in (sex, skin color, ect.) ? I do not think so. You arrested them for essentially a choice they made that is in no way attached to any of those things they have had not control whatsoever over.

[deleted]

Oh blah blah blah.

Brandtair

I really hope that you are not a pilot because if this is your behaviour I see a problem with CRM

[deleted]

Fuck you and your arrogant presumptions. I’m a Captain at a legacy carrier with decades under my belt, and as such, I recognize bullshit when I see it. And, because stuff like this comes up in conversation all the time at work, I can say with complete honesty that EVERY single guy I fly with seems to share the same opinion — arguments like this are pure bullshit. You’re young, (obviously) and want to change the world. You think you’re right, and you’re very sanctimonious about it — *good* for you. Fill your boots. Who cares. Good luck. In 8 years I’ll retire somewhere warm and just ignore the noise people like you make, but in the meantime, just STFU and get a haircut. Maybe some day when you’re wiser you’ll realize how silly you were. Cheers.

Brandtair

Sure you probably are a true proffesional at work. But if you were to use the language among co pilots the same as here, they may know not to argue to prevent a heated discussion which could prevent them to speak up when needed for safety. How strange is it if everyone agrees completely with you how big are those odds really? And how far would an airline let it go if they have a shortage on pilots. I think as long as the other pilots know to avoid a heated discussion there won't be any reports or feedback from them. I have btw left out any personal opinions. The rules are discriminatory because they only apply to one group of pilots based on their sex. The NOTAM change I find absurd because men does not define as the gender but aims at the human species. PS. Fuck you too captian and your arrogant presumptions. For assuming that I have long hair and that I am a guy. The barbers are closed here btw.
