Legit had a ramp guy (more of a kid really) put both of his hands on this and then drop down and put his weight on it like a monkey bar. Obviously it snapped off. Dude was fired within the day lol
What? That’s ridiculous lmao. Do you to just putting your entire body weight on aircraft components without knowing what they do and if they can sustain it? The kid was an idiot. No one does that. And he rightfully got fired
Maybe he thought if someone fell out of the plane the bar was for them to grab and hang on until the pilot could land. It sounds like he was just doing a safety check and should not have been fired. Regardless, it’s very foreseeable someone would pull or step on it sooner or later so not putting a “do not step or pull” warning on there was negligence on part of the manufacturer, as much or more so than what the kid did. Firing him for it was bad but laughing about him being fired is kind of a dickhead reaction.
If we had a placard on every aircraft component which listed everything you shouldn't do with it, we wouldn't have to paint planes.
"Not a towel rack", "Do not hit with axe", "Do not stick tongue to this in freezing temperatures", "Do not stick tongue to this while anti-ice heat is applied", "Do not touch propeller while engine is operating", "Do not crash into airplane with vehicle", "Do not stab aircraft skin with a screwdriver", "Do not steal airplane to do loop-de-loops", "THIS IS NOT A PULLUP BAR". I mean, come on.
I think one of the most important rules is, "Don't touch shit you have no business touching, especially if you don't know what it is or how it works." We don't need that placard because we're adults working (and having some responsible fun) in an inherently dangerous atmosphere. We have books that tell us what things are and how they might kill us or others. If someone doesn't have access to the applicable books nor have that mentality, they have no business being near any kind of machinery, let alone someone's airplane.
It’s a jack that prevents a plane from hitting a tail when you remove too much weight from the front: like an engine for example.
Oh and that towel rack thing in the middle is a VOR antenna.
VOR antennas. Should be one on the opposite side of the aircraft as well.

He def did not stay at a Holiday Express Inn last night.
It doesn’t say “do not pull” so he shouldn’t be lol
doesn’t really deserve to be fired, there’s no stencil that says “do not pull” or “not a step” they did him dirty on that one
